NOTRE DAME ATHLETICS
NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL In the annals of American sports, few names conjure up such instant fame and passion as University of Notre Dame Football. The winningest team in college football history: 11 consensus national championships, a record seven Heisman Trophy winners, and 98 consensus All-Americans. More Notre Dame student-athletes have been drafted into the National Football League and enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame than nearly any school in America. There is college football and then there is Notre Dame Football.

ENDOWING NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL Endowing Notre Dame Football is an opportunity to forever impact and associate with the most storied program in collegiate athletics. For the first time in the program’s 128-year history, University benefactors have the chance to put their name on playing and coaching positions through an endowment gift. Endowment funding creates a long-term solution to ensure Notre Dame is positioned to excel at the highest levels — now and forever.

The Butkus Award is given annually to the top linebacker in collegiate football. Two of the past four winners, Manti Te’o and Jaylon Smith, have been members of the Notre Dame football team.

NOTRE DAME LINEBACKERS Jim Lynch, Bob Crable, Bob Golic, Michael Stonebreaker, and Manti Te’o. These five names represent a long list of great linebackers who have proudly worn the gold helmet for the Fighting Irish. They are among the 32 Fighting Irish football players who have earned All-America honors. Notre Dame fans will never forget Crable’s game-winning blocked kick in the 1979 victory over Michigan, Te’o and the defensive stand against Stanford in OT in 2012, and Stonebreaker’s game-saving fumble recovery at the Irish two-yard line against Miami in 1990.

A PROPOSAL FOR THE JOHN AND JANE DOE FAMILY

ADVANCING NOTRE DAME ATHLETICS
JOHN AND JANE DOE FAMILY LINEBACKER GRANT-IN-AID The Department of Athletics seeks a gift of $1.5 million to forever endow and name the John and Jane Doe Family Linebacker Grantin-Aid on the Fighting Irish football team providing a full grant-inaid scholarship for a Notre Dame Linebacker.
The John and Jane Doe Family Linebacker Grant-in-Aid will provide approximately 5 percent of its total value in scholarship funds each year. Any growth of the endowment over that amount is reinvested to grow the value for future generations. The Doe Family’s gift of $1.5 million provides enough funding to cover the full cost of a scholarship for one student-athlete in perpetuity and, in time, the John and Jane Doe Family Linebacker Grant-in-Aid could provide multiple scholarships. Furthermore, in the increasingly competitive world of collegiate athletics, the John and Jane Doe Family Linebacker Grant-in-Aid will serve as a powerful tool to continue to attract premier recruits to Notre Dame.
