Choice and the opportunity to develop a voice are important for young women. Providing access and opportunities for self-reflection lead to confident and empowered learners.

All courses at Notre Dame offer students academic challenge and are collegepreparatory. Honors courses at the freshman level offer further depth and faster pacing for those students who have particular interest and readiness for an accelerated course of study. Specifically, incoming students can petition to take honors-level classes in Biology, English and Global Studies during freshman year. Students who wish to be considered for the accelerated course(s) must petition to do so by taking a brief online self-assessment. The self-assessment(s) takes place after enrollment. Through the assessment and provided rubric, students reflect on the experience and their own habits of learning to self-identify as a candidate ready for an honors-level course at Notre Dame.
