Wildcards to International Session in Riga European Youth Parliament (EYP) Sweden is now thrilled to launch the call for two wildcard spots for delegates to the 75th International Session (IS) of the EYP. The European Youth Parliament’s International Session in the spring of 2014 will take place in Riga and Liepaja, Latvia during March 15-23, 2014. The International Sessions are the flagship events of the EYP. Every year, the EYP organises three of these Sessions. Each of them brings together 300 young people from more than 36 European countries during 10 days. The delegates of the spring and autumn International Sessions are selected by their National Committees through a national competitive process – usually a National Selection Conference. The Governing Body decides, following a list of criteria defined in the Policy Compilation, how many delegates each NC can send to an IS. EYP Sweden has 10 delegate spots for the International Session in Riga. 8 of these spots have already been filled by delegates selected from the National Session. We are now looking for 2 exceptional, engaged, enthusiastic and competent members to join the Swedish delegation going to Riga. It is a requirement that these members haven’t taken part in an IS a delegate before. In a little over a month, more than 240 young delegates from 37 European countries will gather in Riga to once again prove that European youth do care about the way the EU influences their future; we do want to participate in the processes of decision-making; and, most importantly, we do have brilliant ideas to bring to the table of European politics. The year 2014 is of a particular significance for Latvia, as Riga will be holding the honour of being European Capital of Culture 2014. As such, it will be hosting numerous cultural events and will welcome visitors from across the world to introduce them to the cultural heritage of Latvia and its capital city. With this status, Riga will be at the centre of attention when it comes to cultural happenings across the Europe, which is the general theme is one that mirrors the significance of this special status, which is believed to be crucial for the link of those two events. We are now looking for two members to join the Swedish delegation. These two members have desirably contributed to the work of EYP Sweden in the past or plan to do so after their attendance in Riga. Furthermore, applicants must be aged 18 years old and over. The participation fee of 150 Euros will be covered for by EYP Sweden. Travel costs are not covered for. If you are interested in taking part, contact noura.berrouba@eup.se with an attached document of maximum 600 words outlining your motivation to attend, your previous work in EYP Sweden and your plans to further make use of your experiences within the organisation. The letter can be written in either Swedish or English. Deadline to submit your application is Wednesday the 19th of February.
