Our driver for 2013
“excited for this oppor tunity ”
»
We already met him during the last race of last season. The Race of the Champions, held in October of 2012 at the TT-circuit in Assen. For those having a hard time to remembering this race a short recap. At this race Ricardo van Duijn took place on the Novabike03 for the first time. The team and Ricardo have never met before and Ricardo had never ridden the Novabike before. On the qualifying day the rain was pouring down from the skies. But the show...eh race must go on! Rain tires were fitted under the Novabike and Ricardo took place behind the windshield what ultimately lead to 10 QP- laps with a best time of 2:14:565. This was good for a third position! For QP2 the weather cleared up. Time for Ricardo to defend his third position. And so he did! He ended QP2 with a third position. Whilst doing he even managed to break the Novabike laprecord on the TT-circuit with a time of 1:52:950. Unfortunately a cable leading to the battery broke, forcing the team for forfeit the race. Being highly impressed by the riding skills of Ricardo and his quick adaption to the Novabike, NovaBike and Ricardo engaged in consultations. After 3 months the moment was finally there. Time for Ricardo to sign his contract at NovaBike Racing Team Delft!
4 - NovaBike Newsletter: March 2013
Ricardo, who just turned 19 this month, began his carreer in 2007 on minibikes. And he did this with success! He became a member of the KNMV Wegrace selection. A group a highly talented drivers picked by the KNMV (Royal Dutch Motorcycle Association). In 2008 he raced in the NK (Dutch Championship) Pocketbike Junioren open. After that he went to the 100cc class and 125cc Aprilia wegrace cup. In 2010 he was active in both the Dutch as well as the European Championship for 125cc motorcycles. The transition to the NK 250cc class was made in 2011 and in 2012 to the 600cc Talentcup. Safe to say is that Ricardo just the man for the job. His ability to quickly adapt to (changes) the bike and his proven talent for racing makes him the perfect driver for NovaBike Racing Team Delft. Ricardo van Duijn: “I am extremely excited for this opportunity that has been given me. I will do absolutely everything to get the best out of me, the bike and the team!”. Ricardo will be taking place on the Novabike again during the wintertraining which will be held in Spain this March. Read more about the wintertraining on page 6!
Progress Novabike04 Design presentation 8th of March!
Âť
At this moment, the fourth team is hard at work to design and build the next Novabike. This will be a new motorcycle based on all experience and knowledge gathered over the past years, meaning that there is a chance to create an innovative design based on the most essential lessons learned.
The design presentation will take place in
A new frame will be designed with weight reduction and improved packaging in mind, so routine maintenance activities will become even more straightforward as parts are less hard to reach.
You are welcome from 19.30. The presentation will start at 20:00 till 22:00. There will be drinks.
In addition, research is taking place into the suspension characteristics in the motorcycle, leading to an improved version of the suspension linkage system. Together, these changes will improve the handling of the motorcycle as a whole.
Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geoscience Lecture room A Stevinweg 1 2628 CN Delft
The presentation is open for everyone, but if you wish to come; you must register yourself first. Registering can be done by emailing your name and the number of persons you will be bringing to: aanmelden@novabike.nl.
Furthermore, the vehicle dynamics research started in the previous year will be continued, and an investigation into the air intake and engine cooling system are taking place as well. The insight gained during this research can be directly applied to optimizing the new design. On the 8th of March 2013 the design presentation of Novabike04 will be held. During this presentation the unique features that the new bike has and the research that has been done will be explained.

wintertrainingheading to the sun Âť
Just a few days ago there was still snow falling down here in the Netherlands. Reason enough for NovaBike to head for the sun and hit the tracks! One of the goals is to increase the reliability of the bikes. Last year the Novabike03 unfortunately encountered many technical defects. One of the reason was there was little to no time (or budget) for testing and\or training. This is why a part of the team will be departing the in March to Spain. The Novabike03 is being prepared as we speak (or read) for the wintertraining which will take place from the 10th of March till the 19th of March. Team manager Maurits Rouppe van der Voort, Casper Voogt, Yoeri Sigterman, Frank Vermeulen, Joris Koudijs, Kevin van der Mark, Jacobo Puyoles, Victor Vallejo , Marco Hooghuis and ofcourse driver Ricardo van Duijn will be testing the Novabike on the tracks in Aragon and Valencia. Testing will include the reliability of the bike, as well as testing\research of parts for the new Novabike04. Furthermore, the wintertraining is also an ideal moment to test the teamwork of the team during under race circumstances. Each person that is going along has a specific role. This could be Race Leader, Race Engineer, Mechanic or Pitcrew. Each role comes with specific tasks and responsibilities. This should lead -after enough practise- to an efficient and organized team during races.

The global planning of the wintertraining is as follows: 10 March 10 March - 11 March 13 March - 15 March 18 March
