TWO FACES OF CUSTOM PUBLISHING THE THEORY SAYS THAT CUSTOM PUBLICATIONS CONSIST OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ONES. WE CAN TELL YOU HOW TO DO BEST BOTH

SECOND
INTERNAL MAGAZINE WITHOUT MAKE-UP An internal magazine well designed with respect to the contents as well as graphics is a foundation of good communication within the company. Employees can be sure that they will be properly informed about everything taking place within the company, about changes in its structures, activities, about colleagues. They like to read about themselves. It is worth publishing even the smallest magazine – it pays back in every respect! An internal communication magazine lives and grows together with the company and its employees. It documents all its successes, helps solve interpersonal problems, truthfully and credibly passes on information. It integrates, educates, motivates. A good internal magazine: + creates and strengthens a professional image of the company among its employees, + supports the development of corporate culture, + builds relations with employees and between employees, + integrates and shapes their loyalty, + serves as a platform for exchanging experiences and opinions, offers good role models, motivates to work, praises the best, + fulfils business objectives as part of its organization. Here are some hints what to look for while preparing an internal magazine: + make sure that the texts are up-to-date, down to the point and exhausting, + deal with a wide range of issues in which the staff is interested (research), + use a vivid language characteristic to your industry, don’t be afraid to use jargon, + the layout must be closely related to company’s identification, + invite the employees to work on the magazine, which will make them feel as “hosts”. Finally, what constitutes the essence of the internal magazine, i.e. the texts that should be presented in it: + current information about the company life (operations, structure, implementations, training courses, achievements, recruitment processes, sales and financial results, competitions, social activities, etc.), + presentations of the company’s people (nominations, organizational and personnel changes), interviews with employees (about their business achievements and hobbies), + industry-related news (new products, services, sales activities, marketing campaigns, competitors’ activities, latest news related to the industry), + entertainment section (presentations of hobbies and achievements of the employees – unusual hobbies, sports achievements, hobbies, features and articles about literature, art, fashion and food, cross-word puzzle, jokes, competitions with prizes, anecdotes from the company’s life). The ABCs presented here reveal only the tip of the possibilities behind the production of internal magazines. Many of them depend on the company’s policy and various limitations. As well as the agency... We do a dozen projects related to internal communication magazines every day.

THIRD
EXTERNAL MAGAZINE IN THE SPOTLIGHT A prestigious external magazine offers much more than even the best advertisement can do. In contrast to other forms of promotion, it has an unmatched characteristic – it is “immortal”. It does not disappear the next day like advertising spots and, which is just as important, it is much cheaper in reaching the target audience. Let’s reveal the purpose of a consumer magazine: + it provides information about the company, its products, people that create it, + it creates an image and the position of the company or brand, + it makes the company credible and wins the trust of the customers, + it strengthens the existing and makes it possible to establish new relations with the outside world, + it freely presents the company’s business operations, promotes products or ideas, + it has a positive impact on increase in sales, promoting stances and behaviours, and an indirect impact on sales decisions. Texts in external magazines obviously differ from those published in publications addressed to employees. The key to success is a different method of presenting them and the effect which we want to achieve. We concentrate less on communication and informing and more on building the company’s image or inducing specific reactions or behaviours among the readers. We persuasively present products which – simply speaking - we want to sell. Below you will find several hints how to do that effectively: + a good external magazine is a magazine which comes close to prestigious consumer magazines; if the reader is prepared to spend a dozen of zlotys on our magazine and he knows that it will be beneficial to him, then we have succeeded! + focus on classical, various journalist forms – interviews, features, reports; attractive and interesting form means good reception quality – this type of texts should constitute the essence of an external magazine, + don’t speak about the company only in direct form, avoid advertising slogans; present the offer in an unobtrusive manner, slightly distanced from the organization; focus on examples, opinions of independent experts and “regular” people, + avoid colloquialism, corporate newspeak – treat the reader in a prestigious manner, with respect and slight distance, + play with the form, integrate the readers, take them on an intellectual journey. Consumer magazines are pearls which require dedicated editorial teams. Without creating separate work groups, the idea of creating a magazine may turn into a disaster. Our special teams publish several important consumer magazines.

PROFESSIONAL AGENCY We are a professional agency specializing in custom publishing, from consumer magazines, internal communication periodicals, magazines dedicated to a given community, catalogues, annual reports, to advanced e-publications – constituting a technological expansion of traditional custom publications. Welcome to Novimedia CP! This was not a coincidence. When in 1996 we were cooperating with an American public relations agency, we had an opportunity to take a closer look at custom publications coming out on the other side of the Atlantic ocean. It was an intuition which told us to take advantage of our public relations experience, our journalism roots, artistic zest and business education and to establish the first custom publishing agency in Poland. Our first project became a hit and the best magazine on the market right away. And that success is being continued today. You can see for yourself by going to the folder called “Our Clients”. We were celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2007 and we were delighted with the fact that we have been continuously growing and building the custom publishing market in Poland. This is our work and passion. If you are looking for specialists in the field of custom publishing, then welcome to Novimedia CP! Our new slogans: “Professional communication pages” and “When you expect more” superbly illustrate who we are and how we work. We offer the highest professional level, we broaden the knowledge of issues associated with communication, we implement new editing and printing trends. We have the necessary experience and make sure every day that the projects, the company and the technologies are being developed on a daily basis. That is why we offer truly professional communication pages and you can get more than you expect (When you expect more). We have been headhunting for years for the best people who will create a permanent and loyal team. Employees of the Publishing Department as well as the Graphic Design Studio are professionals who are experienced in publishing magazines. Their background allows the Clients to work peacefully and gives them time to perform their tasks and leave thinking and work on the given publishing project to us – this is our huge attribute. We are a pioneer on the custom publishing market and we use it fully as the market leader and its creator.

CUSTOM PUBLISHING Classic marketing methods, advertisements and PR received a huge support a dozen years ago in the form of advanced publishing solutions, i.e. custom publishing. This market has been growing very dynamically in Poland since 1997. In the USA this market is worth several dozen billion of dollars each year. Our Agency is one of the first agencies in Poland that does comprehensive custom publishing. We are currently working on over 20 projects! We are convinced that a magazine which we can design for you will be an opinion-making product building relations or market position. Custom means individual Word and image, presented on top quality paper, can do a lot. They can not only consolidate but also create reality. Individualized trade magazines are not something transitory, temporary but a proof of strength, credibility – and not to exaggerate – a proof of certain industrial “immortality”. Custom publishing allows us to have influence on the contents of the publications. Whether it is supposed to be an internal bulletin integrating the company’s employees, a prestigious external magazine offering what even the best advertising cannot offer (which explodes like a soap bubble – it is there today but it is gone the next day), a one-time brochure accompanying a given event, or maybe an exclusive annual report that concisely and attractively summarizes your achievements. In addition to events associated with company life we can include interviews, commentaries, photo galleries, product presentations, analyses, and even a huge dose of entertainment. We select the paper, circulation, volume, frequency of appearance, the target reader ourselves. The Client decides about that! “Turn-key” publications We work for anyone who has a good idea and wants to promote it. It is the Client who indicates his expectations which we meet – starting with the concept, through the graphic design project, selection of information, preparation of texts, taking of photographs (illustrations, infographics, tables, diagrams), printing, to personalization, distribution and logistics. We offer off-the-shelf solutions, suggest proven ideas which we consult with the Client, jointly creating unique products. Numerous advantages, no disadvantages Before you decide to hire us to prepare the layout of your individualized trade magazine, you should analyze the objectives which it is supposed to serve and verbalize your expectations. Most importantly – you should let yourself get convinced to communication which is becoming the most frequently used marketing tool of the 21st century. Check us out!

PROFESSIONALISM IS IN OUR GENES Work with the largest and, at the same time, the most demanding companies does not leave room for mistakes or shortcomings. Every project must be worked down to the last detail – we are perfectionists in this regard. Our team is made up of PR experts as well as experienced journalists. This combination guarantees a very unique approach to every publishing project. Sometimes a single photograph, or even a detail on it, can communicate more than a whole page of text, in other situations an underlined word is sufficient for the reader to instinctively stop over the given article – catching of such nuances is our daily bread. Organized start Chaos is the enemy of every publisher. We cannot afford that. A magazine on which we start working is organized and planned even before the first texts are written. To start off the Client receives a precisely prepared outline of the given edition with a page by page breakdown, columns and suggested topics. We start our work after it is consulted and supplemented by the Client. We weigh every word Depending on the nature of the publisher, we prepare texts concerning specific subjects wholly autonomously or edit materials provided by the Client. Edition is not limited to correcting mistakes – it usually involves a thorough reconstruction of the material; every time we try to prepare an interesting and easily readable article which will attract the reader’s attention. Only the best work with us A very wide group of co-workers helps us with difficult and very specific subjects – they include journalists as well as renown authorities in every field. We work on a daily basis with journalists located throughout the entire country – thanks to them we are able to obtain materials from any place in the country within several or dozen minutes. Verified words Every article prepared by us is always approved by the Client. After being approved it is thoroughly proofread. Only after being corrected it is sent to the graphic design studio. That is where the graphic designers transform “raw” files into attractive pages of a magazine. Images arouse imagination Creating a magazine without attractive illustrations is like driving a car without fuel. No one would even think about that, which means that we are thinking about photos the moment we prepare the outline. Photos are adapted to every material – either selected by the Client, chosen from the photo bank or taken by our photo reporters. In the latter case, before a photo reporter sets out on his mission, he receives a precise brief from the editing department which describes, frame by frame, what kind of images are needed for the magazine. There is no room for fortuity here. The photo reporters cooperating with us are professionals tested over the years and working for leading Polish publishers on a daily basis.

WE WORK ON-LINE The pages of the magazine designed by our graphic studio are verified with respect to correct setting by our editing department. If everything is OK and complies with the current outline, the pages are sent to the Client in PDF file so that he can approve them or indicate where changes are to be made. All remarks made by the Client are then made on-line – on the basis of direct exchange of e-mail messages or phone call. They go onto the next correction stage after being approved. We avoid errors like fire Every page is first read by Novimedia CP proofreader on a black and white printout. After the corrections are made, the file in PDF format is sent to one of the proofreaders cooperating with us on-line. Only after such verification the file is reproduced on a colour printout – which is then simultaneously proofread by a Novimedia CP proof-reader and the editor in charge of the given project. The last chance to catch errors which somehow got through the previous proofreading stages is a thorough check of the proofs and impositions. We give the printing house a go-ahead only if we are 100% sure that the magazine is perfect in terms of graphics and editing. We never let the project out of sight Once work on the project is transferred over to the printing house, the Graphic Design Producer assumes supervision over it on behalf of Novimedia CP. He takes care of the quality of the publication as well as its timely delivery. Our role ends the moment the Client confirms that the magazine has arrived at its destination and that its meets all the expectations. From words to a magazine Even the substantively best, most accurate or most subtle text has no chance of succeeding if it is not served in an attractive and catchy form. A timeless rules says that “eyes buy the product”. We are aware of that here at Novimedia CP and hence pay a lot of attention to the project and the graphic design of our publications.
www.novimedia.pl
Let yourself be recognized Projects which we are working on are graphically coherent with the image of the company for which the given project is being prepared. This distinguishes them in the thicket of similar publications and makes them recognizable at first sight. We make every effort to make sure that every publication is exceptional and unique, that it lives its own life and grows together with the Client. Trust the professionals The key to success in designing and publishing trade magazines is to maintain a proportion between what is substantive and what is beautiful. It frequently happens that good text is accompanied by a coarse, slightly old-fashioned or simply undistinguished form. And vice-versa, there is only one step to triumph of form over content from a collection of details bursting with hues and causing eyesore. Team is most important The graphic artists, designers and creators working at Novimedia CP are aware of these proportions. This is a professional and close team of people gifted with huge imagination, sense of good taste and aesthetics and possessing a long-standing job experience. They continuously attend courses at home and abroad, improve their techniques, and appear on the front line of custom publishing in Poland. How is it actually done? There is no good magazine without a well thought out and previously prepared layout, that is a certain template, a permanent composition of each page, possessing specific characteristics that recur in each subsequent edition of the given publication. Layout has a practical meaning, above all. On one hand it makes easier for the reader to navigate and orientate himself among huge amounts of information presented in the publication, while – on the other hand – it helps the graphic artist to prepare himself for the next edition of the publication by creating a model of each page and then filling it with content.
08
NINTH
LAYOUT AND THEN WHAT? A finished layout means half success. Next, after design and editorial work is completed, texts are converted to Apple format and the proper typesetting and paging are begun. What counts here are a good idea and a sense of good taste as well as the efficiency and DTP knowledge. After the pages are filled with content, appropriate photos and other graphic elements are chosen, a finished page is sent to a Client in pdf format for approval. This the more so important that the Client is able all this time to control the process of creating the magazine and may, at any stage, modify the solutions or correct them to his liking. Our company also works in the Ready-to-Read (R2R) system which greatly takes the strain off the Client – he receives a finished publication with his involvement being reduced to a minimum. Versatility and accountability We control the project from its concept to the moment a finished product is delivered to the Client and take full responsibility for what happens along the way. After the Client accepts the magazine for printing, we make additional adjustments, prepare colour sample prints, digital and analogue proofs, oversee the printing, shipping and logistics processes. We cooperate with the best contractors at home and abroad – offset and roll printing houses, traditional prepress and CTP. For our Clients we carefully select partners who best fit the given projects. Technique hand in hand with skills We have an extensive, state-of-the-art equipment – DTP stations running on Apple platform, editing and support stations on PC platform, a structural network, an independent on-line server and top class printing peripheral equipment. This year we modernized and increased the capabilities of the graphic design studio by purchasing state-of-the-art computer system and by creating new jobs. We now have a potential that allows us to do any publishing project.

We also advise our Clients what to do to make sure that the publication achieves the anticipated effect and goal. A special team composed of the most experienced Novimedia CP consultants deals with publishing consultation. Consulting We perform professional readership analyses. Based on questionnaires and interviews we examine how the magazine is being received by a given community. The Client receives a report which he can use to implement or adjust the current status of the given publication project. Advertising Considering the growth of custom magazines, we opened up an Advertising Department. We prepare advertising offers for specific productions and then find advertisers. We also offer advanced ad creation services. On one hand they are based on visual qualities while, on the other hand, they materialize the marketing message in the form of an appropriately elaborated text. Such advertisement is much more effective, less invasive with respect to perception and does not break off from the rest of the publication but integrates itself with the whole. The reader gets the impression that just like everything else in the given publication, the advertisement in the form of a verbal and graphic material is worth paying attention to!
