Did you miss the 94 lots at the Coin Auction!?
On Thursday May 11, 2023, we had a great meeting at the Fort Lauderdale Coin Club with the attendance of 32 of our members, and 3 guests. Welcome to the new members who joined the club that evening at Volunteer Park in Plantation, Florida.
A large number of vendors were present and offered a great variety of numismatics pieces for the Members and guests who attended the event. Soon the room was full and the numismatic speaker Gregg Wagner began his presentation, first by briefly going over the answers that we the members of the Fort Lauderdale Coin Club had given to the 15 questions in the Club Trivia Challenge organized by the American Numismatic Association ANA on the occasion of the National Coin Week during the month of April this year. Soon our answers will be go to ANA to compete with the answers from the other coin clubs in the USA for one of the three prizes.
Gregg Wagner’s numismatic presentation this evening caught the attention of all the attendees: History of the Dahlonega Mint when “gold was first discovered in the Dahlonega region in Georgia in the late 1820s,” and in 1830, a private mint was established and began to coin gold pieces. His presentation had slides that were shown to the public on the big screen at the conference room with pictures of the gold coins, maps of the area, and of the Dahlonega Mint.
A short break to serve the food, allowed the members to give a look once again, before it would start, at the 94 items placed in the auction by the Active Members of the Fort Lauderdale Coin Club.
The auction began with what I have coined “The Mark and Mark Auction Show” because it is full of knowledge, insights, and positivism. The experienced auctioneer and coin dealer Mark Eshleman and the Coin Club’s vice president Mark Kaplan did a great job with the 94 lots and the very avid bidders that made the lots soar! Two junior runners helped to deliver the items. The interested bidders kept bidding high on the 94 items. Most of the items were sold at unforeseen prices.
The meeting concluded with the raffle of 3 prizes of silver coins and sets.
See you all at the next Fort Lauderdale Coin Club Meeting with the Numismatic Presentation, Coin Raffle, Numismatic Auction,
Join the Club! It is important to maintain your membership active. Please remember to pay your membership 2023. Active members can rent tables at the show, placed numismatic items at the coin auctions, and participate in all the events of the Coin Club. Your membership is highly appreciated.
