::FROM THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR’S DESK::

hat a year this has been! We exited 2020 hoping for W changes and while we got them, we’re all still living in this quasi-new state in 2021. Bridal fashion trends tend to move slowly and with yet another crazy year almost in the books, our fashion trends aren’t much different than the year itself has been. Some designers decided not to put out new lines the last couple of years and others who did put out new seasons of gowns decided to double down on the elements they debuted for 2021 as the full effects of those trends weren’t really felt this year. We are seeing some new trends specifically for 2022, though, and we’re excited to see these leave the runway and begin to show up in real weddings. So our report for 2022 might feel a bit reminiscent of our 2021 predictions, but make no mistake, designers are taking it to a new level. In addition to the shift in sleeve styles we saw in 2021, we are also seeing a lot of leg as well as black accents appearing in 2022 collections! These exciting shifts are breathing new life into some of the most beloved styles of late. If you know anything about me and my company, Alchemy Events (yes, I’m not always wearing my magazine Creative Director hat), you’ll know that I’m here for the drama! You probably won’t be surprised that one of my favorite trends is the new, big, dramatic (even ‘grazing the floor’ long) sleeves we’re seeing for 2022! The Galia Lahav signature cutout look is making its way through the

industry and we’re also seeing visible corsets returning to TREND: Trans bridal fashion. 90’s trends continue to make a strong comeback with everything from halter style to square necklines and that sleek “Calvin Klein chic” look that an entire generation of “Friends” lovers associated Jennifer Aniston with. While pearls were already starting to come back into fashion, we are really seeing a lot of designers lean into this trend with everything from pearl accents to fully blown pearls scattered across the entire gown. Being able to transition a gown via detachable elements is one that feels particularly suited for us here in the Gulf South also, since you can be more demure for the ceremony and then go to your reception and really let loose. Swap out those long sleeves for spaghetti straps or take off that huge overskirt, show some leg and get ready to party! We’re here for it! The one trend we’re starting to see but are hoping to see more of, you ask? A gorgeous glittered geometric “mesh” fabric. Some designers are calling it a “waffle pattern”, and you’ll notice it on page 26. This fabric gives flow with structure, something gorgeous and a bit sheer with a hint of shimmer. It’s definitely something we’d love to see other designers embrace in the coming years.

Creative Director, NOW Weddings Magazine + Owner, Alchemy Events

THEIR STORY Jude and I met in November of 2015. I was on a road trip with some friends checking out colleges and different states in the South. I came across Jude in my travels. He took me and my friends on a boat ride to find alligators and I found myself falling for him rather quickly. I went back home and we kept in touch via facetime and phone calls. After months of long distance, and a couple of trips back and forth between us, I decided to apply for Nicholls State University. A few months later, I found myself moving to Louisiana in order to pursue my degree in Education and also fell in love with this Cajun man of my dreams. 5 years of dating and 3 dogs later, Jude proposed to me at my parents home on 4th of July in Northridge, Ca. I said yes instantly and in the midst of a pandemic we began planning our big, fat, Punjabi-Cajun Wedding! - Chanpreet

Before the wedding, Chanpreet and Jude shared a first look and took photos inside Jeppe Hein’s Mirror Labyrinth.

A MIX OF TWO CULTURES “We

mixed both of our cultures together to make our wedding dreams come true,” shares Chanpreet. “I am Punjabi, Indian and Jude is full on Cajun. We managed to infuse both of our traditions and give our friends and family the perfect balance of both cultures. My friends and family flew out from Los Angeles, Ca while Jude’s friends and family drove out from Lockport, La. Everything was enmeshed perfectly! This wedding was truly one for the books and such a beautiful celebration of cultures. It was such an inspiring coming together of different cultures. From Punjabi to Cajun to New Orleans, we all became one by the end of the night!”

THEIR FAVORITE THINGS “My favorite

part was definitely the Second Line to close out the night!” shares Chanpreet. “It gave all of us such a New Orleans only experience! Jude’s favorite part was saying our vows to each other, which I of course loved too!”

THEIR STORY Shana and Shane met through a mutual friend. He believed the two would be a match made in heaven… and he was correct! Shane decided to take it back to where they took their first trip, which happened to also be Shana’s favorite place, New Orleans, to propose. Shane set up a photo shoot in Jackson Square and as soon as the photographer set the shot, he popped the question!

WHY NEW ORLEANS “New Orleans

has played an intricate part in our love story,” shares Shana. “New Orleans was our first trip together and where Shane proposed. So when Shane mentioned having a destination wedding in New Orleans, it was a nobrainer to scratch everything we knew about weddings and keep everything somewhat traditional. Fall was our backdrop. Hues of cinnamon, burgundy, ivory, and gold were huge inspirations. Then came the theme of vintage glam. From Second Lines to cake pulls, we wanted to give our guests Nola in One Night.”

FAMILY TIES “We had an even more special note added to our wedding,” shares Shana. Shana’s grandmother, Reverend Loraine Williams, officiated the wedding ceremony! “All of our guests were traveling to New Orleans, many for the first time,” says Shana. “With that being said, our Second Line was a little different than the New Orleans tradition by having the band come in as soon as we were announced husband and wife. It caught everyone off guard!”

THEIR STORY “Tanner and I met at a summer job in high school where we both worked across the hall from each other,” shares Brenna. “Tanner would take extended lunch breaks with me and we tried to hide our summer fling for a couple of months but then our bosses were convinced that we had to go on a date -- little did they know we had been going on many dates!” Tanner proposed in Central Park in New York City in August of 2019. “It was the most magical day!” says Brenna. “My parents traveled to New York with us, but little did we know that Tanner’s parents also made the trip! As soon as Tanner popped the question, they came out from ‘hiding.’ It was our first joint-family vacation and we spent the rest of the week exploring the city and dreaming about what the wedding would look like!” 44 | N.O.W | NOWWeddingMagazine.com

SILVER LININGS OCTOBER 1, 2021 | NEW ORLEANS, LA PHOTOGRAPHY BY BEEBE TRAN, STUDIO TRAN

SILVER LININGS Brenna and Tanner hit many potholes on the road to their wedding day. “We truly believe everything happens for a reason and we were able to find many silver linings and blessings along the way,” shares Brenna. “We originally scheduled our wedding for January 2021 but had to postpone it due to COVID restrictions and capacity limits.” Then, just two months before their rescheduled wedding date, Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana. “[Ida] left us without power for over 21 days AND with extreme damage to our brand new house leaving over half of the house to be gutted,” says Brenna. “At one point we didn’t know if we were going to have a wedding, it seemed SO far out of reach and almost next to impossible to pull off given the conditions we were experiencing.” Ida’s aftermath added extra challenges including the couple and their venues being without power for weeks, guests receiving muddy invitations and groomsmen left with unaltered tuxedos Among other things. “The only thing that got us through ALL of this was having each other and knowing that we had a nice relaxing honeymoon to look forward to in our future. Our wedding was the most perfect night and it made all of these issues pale in comparison to the extreme joy that we felt when we finally got to become husband and wife.”

Daniella Mascarenhas; & Ronald Tolie WEDDING DATE: 9-3-2022 “A mutual love of powerlifting brought us into each other’s lives. It started with an Instagram direct message about a special purple drink, phone calls until the early morning hours, and Danie’s first booked flight to St. Louis in March 2018. Our first date was 630 feet in the air at the Gateway Arch. That fateful trip ended with a promise to see each other soon. Every subsequent trip grew an unexpected love. We became “Facebook official” and coordinated our long distance. We exhausted all the museums in Washington D.C. after Danie moved there from Texas. We spent an extended summer living together in St. Louis. We had nerve-racking trips to meet the parents and learn about each other’s roots. And all the while we maintained our commitment to love across state lines and time zones. Fast forward to New Orleans, Louisiana where we picked our first apartment together and moved down South. The three and a half years of long distance taught us communication, honesty, and fidelity (and how to travel with a cat in tow). We returned to the St. Louis Arch where Ron proposed on June 19, 2021.” Image Credit: Jessica The Photographer

Whitney Lewis & Andrew LaChaussee WEDDING DATE: 3-5-2022 “We met very unexpectedly in the fall of 2018 and haven’t looked back since! We are so excited to become Mr. & Mrs. with our family and closest friends and family in March!” Image Credit: Sarah Alleman Photography

Monica Kronfel & Le Bui WEDDING DATE: 3-19-2022 “We met working at West Jefferson Inpatient Rehab together. Our relationship grew from friendship, and we have now been together since 2018. We got engaged in the summer of 2020 while on a beach trip with family to Orange Beach. Our wedding is in March 2022 at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters in City Park. We love the location as we spent many days together there for picnics, volleyball, and just exploring the park and sculpture garden. And we can forget stopping for a bite at Cafe Du Monde. We love walking to the Gretna Levee in the evenings, grabbing a drink and a bite to eat from our local restaurants, and hosting game nights and crawfish boils for our family and friends.” Image Credits: Sarah Alleman Photography
