Our Story

NPower is a nonprofit rooted in the community and committed to advancing race and gender equity in the tech industry through skills training, real-world experience, support, and mentorships. The organization has helped young adults from underserved communities and veterans move from poverty to the middle class by training them with a range of tech skills and connecting them to quality jobs.

Students who enter our free training programs earn industry-recognized certifications and graduate with the competencies of an IT professional with one to two years of experience. NPower also places students in paid internships and apprenticeships with corporate and nonprofit organizations. Eighty percent of NPower graduates get a full-time job or continue their education. NPower is a vital solution towards bridging the national talent gap that exists in the high-growth technology industry.

Over the past decade, NPower has expanded its program reach and developed a robust network of Fortune 500 companies, mid-sized enterprises, government agencies, staffing firms, and a network of nonprofit partners that host its interns and hire its graduates full-time. Toni is the Chief of the Cyber Defense Education and Training (CDET) organization at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Her roles within the organization are to provide a strategic vision around training and education to assist in combating the cybersecurity workforce shortage.

Prior to joining the DHS in 2015, Ms. Bensons spent most of her career serving in the United States Air Force, where she served as a Communications Officer. She also worked with other U.S. government agencies and private sector companies as a contractor, in support of various cyber initiatives. In 2022, Ms. Benson was selected as the SANS Practitioner of the Year. Ms. Benson holds a B.S. from Delaware State University, a M.S. from the University of Maryland Global Campus, and an Executive Leadership certification from Harvard University. Ms. Benson is also a Certified Information Systems SecurityProfessional.

“Before NPower, I was struggling with trying to maintain some type of work-life balance in a retail leadership role. During my search for a higher education degree program in technology, I stumbled upon an NPower success story, on TikTok of all places, and was amazed at all the organization was doing for people in underserved communities. I started the tech fundamentals program, completed my internship at Under Armour HQ, and went into the cloud computing program. NPower has helped to connect me to an amazing mentor, to obtain numerous certifications, and to gain hands-on experience to set my future up for success. I am grateful to have felt supported through the entire course, but also beyond, through alumni communications! Since I just passed my AWS Cloud Practitioner exam, I’m hoping to move forward toward the goal of achieving my AWS Solutions Architect Certification. Then, use my newly developed skills to grow within my current company.”

After graduating college in December 2020 during the heart of COVID and after a failed six month job search, I had to go back to the drawing board. I decided to pursue technology as I’ve had an interest in it for as long as I remember. The issue I had was that self study didn’t really work for me, and so that was when I decided to get into NPower tech fundamentals. Now, I have completed two internships and am currently pursuing an AWS cloud practitioner certification through NPower’s cloud computing course. It is because of NPower that I learned that I could break into technology and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity.

I’m a strategic-driven support engineer who loves to provide support, take on new challenges and continue to learn and grow within the IT industry. Working in the industry for 15 years I was able to demonstrate new business ideas which will provide the best experience for end users. Displays strong problem-solving skills and focuses on providing the best client support experience while resolving their technical issues.

Before I joined NPower, I was looking for a new opportunity and obtain a new skill set in cloud computing. This was no easy task, with so many resources and no guidance on how to get started. When I was accepted to join NPower, I was very happy. Because of NPower and their staff. I became confident in learning cloud computing. The guidance the team provided led me to obtaining my first certification with AWS. The best part of the whole experience is the additional resources and lessons NPower provided to make sure their students succeed.

There are a few things that have greatly affected my life and made me into the woman I am today. Having a son graduating from the prestigious Harvard University in May 2023, makes me a very proud mom. Also, as a military veteran, receiving the GI bill to attend Herzing University in GA and receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology/Cybersecurity. I soon realized cyber security was not for me, I chose to pursue AWS Cloud, through NPower’s awesome training program.

Before the NPower Cloud Computing Program, I had already completed two prior NPower programs involving IT tech and Cybersecurity. Both of those programs helped me become who I am today as a Cybersecurity professional by opening pathways to prosperity. I joined the NPower Cloud Computing program to become a greater asset to my current employer and coworkers. In my current role as a Cybersecurity professional, I find myself conducting cloud-based investigations that require in-depth knowledge of the cloud environment. I am beyond grateful to NPower for giving me this opportunity to create new connections, grow mentally, professionally, but also technically.

Before NPower, I was a recent high school graduate with a passion for technology but no clear path to pursuing a career in the field. I lacked a college degree and the resources to pay for expensive certifications and training programs.

That’s when I was introduced to NPower. I learned about their free technology training programs for underserved communities and was immediately interested in the opportunity. I applied and was accepted into their Technology Service Corps program, where I received training in technical support and AWS cloud certificate.

During my time at NPower, I was able to accomplish my Comptia A+ and currently getting my AWS cloud practitioner. I remained focused and committed to my studies. With NPower’s support, I earned multiple industry-recognized certifications, including CompTIA A and AWS cloud practitioners.

Now, after NPower, I am currently looking for an IT job. I currently work as a Patient Care Technician for Davita. I am excited about my future in the tech industry and am grateful to NPower for providing me with the resources and support to launch my career.

Asia Gibson Brooklyn, NY

Prior to NPower, I worked in the school system for seven years. I started off as a paraprofessional for three years and my final four years I was the lead teacher for the AP Computer Science class. During that time, I worked on my associate and bachelor’s degrees. I obtained my CompTIA A+ in 2012 through NPower and throughout that time I have freelanced and worked for over 10+ years in IT. At the start of the pandemic, I was building out home PC’s for people so they would be able to work from home and/or use for content creation. Before the pandemic I enjoyed attending Hackathons. The last hackathon I attended was with Facebook in 2019 and our project XR Pets won for the gaming and entertainment category. What I hope to achieve after attaining my Cloud+ certification is to specialize in cloud security, and to be able to mentor young women interested in the tech field.

I always had interest in breaking into the cloud computing industry, but with little to no knowledge, guidance, mentorship, and training, I knew it was only a dream. The opportunity to grow and excel in the cloud computing excites me, which ultimately made me decide that cloud computing fit perfectly into my future. I was excited and inspired when I first heard about NPower via ACT Now Education Orientation Group, a Military Community Group. With my fair share of experience by being with the Cloud Computing Program, I have gained tenacity, hands-onskills, confidence, and mentorship which will only help me with my future endeavors. The NPower team has showed unparallel commitment and passion towards my success, and I cannot thank them enough for making me more educated and knowledgeable in the field of cloud computing. It is important to have certifications to prove credibility, with the acquired foundational knowledge and the help of NPower Cloud Computing Program, I plan on obtaining AWS certifications which I believe will open many doors for me.

My name is Bailey Canela and I am a determined cybersecurity student with a strong passion for cybersecurity and cloud computing. I have internship experience as a Network Engineer where I utilized coding knowledge to create scripts to automate processes. I will be graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity in May 2023. NPower has allowed me to successfully complete the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification and I plan on taking the AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification next.

Before joining NPower, I was a college student who was looking for a way to break into the Cloud. I had the desire, however, all I needed was direction, and NPower came at the perfect time. After discovering NPower’s Cloud Computing program, I was able to gain the technical skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a career in the Cloud industry. With the national NPower alumni network, career readiness sessions, and job placement opportunities, I now feel prepared to take on any challenge which comes my way. The support system and mentorship opportunities NPower has provided me since joining the program has empowered me to believe that any career goal is realistic.

Carlos is an energetic and driven individual with willingness to continue to learn and grow. Carlos has a proven track record with over 10 years of experience in the IT field. Carlos has a BA and has also recently obtained the Security +, and AWS Cloud Practitioner certifications through NPower Carlos is also currently working on the AWS Solutions Architect certificate.

NPower has definitely impacted my life. Before NPower Carlos was gainfully employed but felt stagnant at his current role with no room for growth. Since joining NPower Carlos has met some good people, that will hopefully help him get back into the workforce. Carlos is now in the process of finding gainful employment with the new education and skills that he obtained from these courses. Hopefully Carlos will achieve this goal with NPower’s help.

Prior to NPower, I was a Certified Personal Trainer. Due to the pandemic, I spent time working in a remote customer service role. I’ve always had an inquiring mind and love figuring out how things work together. An email from my husband is where I came across NPower and what they offer. It sounded too good to be true, so I did a bit more research. I learned that the training program would be remote, professional development was offered and it was extended to military spouses. I joined the NPower program with an open mind and ready to learn. Thanks to the NPower program I have earned a CompTIA A+ certification, Google Project Management certification and most recently AWS Cloud Computing. I plan to continue learning and apply my skills in Cloud Security and or a Technical Leadership Role. I am excited about my future as a woman in tech and the potential my career growth has. Before my engagement with NPower, I found myself navigating the intricate transition from military to civilian life, contemplating how to transfer my strategic and IT skills to a tech-oriented career. The post-pandemic job market added another layer of complexity to this journey. However, the beacon of NPower cut through these challenges, presenting a clear path toward a fulfilling career in technology.

Embracing the shift to virtual learning, my experience at NPower was transformative. It provided me with essential certifications and solidified my foundational IT knowledge. I hold a bright outlook for my tech career, and I am inspired by the dedication of the NPower staff. Their dedication and support led to me earning my CompTIA A+, Network+, and AWS Practitioners certifications.

In the aftermath of NPower, my ambition is to uplift fellow veterans, guiding them to a promising tech-centric path. To me, NPower has been more than an educational institution—it has been my springboard to a robust, tech-forward future. I am currently working as an IT specialist for a managed service provider.

I moved to the United States when I was 18 to pursue further education. After completing my Associate Degree, I joined the US Navy to serve my new home country. During the military service, I was able to work and gain experience in several advanced technologies. My military experience helped me develop the scope of the global cyber security threat against our military force and nation. After my service, I wanted to grow my cybersecurity skills and came across NPower’s Advanced Cyber Program and Cloud Computing Program from Veteran Career fairs. I am proud to say that I am an AWS Cloud Practitioner, with a certificate to prove it. This means that I have a strong understanding of the AWS platform and its services. Thanks to NPower for hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, and RDS and the best practices for deploying and managing applications on the AWS cloud. I would like to thank the NPower teachers and staff. Now I can demonstrate my ability to design, develop and operate scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems. My name is Eliza Ranjeet, and I am from Dallas, Texas. NPower has very profound impact on my career development. If not NPower, it would be harder for me to head start my career. Back in 2018, I started my journey from cyber class and got an opportunity to intern with Citi. Due to the cyber class, I was able to get my Security+ certificate which was very important for me to prove my knowledge. At the same time, Citi internship helps me to get exposure of industry standards. After 4 years, I returned to NPower to acquire cloud computing certificate. As cyber personnel, it is important for me to get this certificate because cloud is the future of every industry. Hello, I am Eric Agyemang, a graduate of Rutgers University with a major in Computer Science. At NPower, I solidified my skillset in cloud security and architecture. I understood the fundamentals of what it takes to build a cloud environment and how to protect it from malicious activities. I am currently a Certified AWS Cloud Practitioner and Soon to be a Certified AWS Solutions Architect.

I plan to build projects and land a job as a cloud vulnerability analyst. My overall goal is to end up as a solutions architect. I want to draw and build out cloud infrastructures with high security and redundancy, alongside cloud developers. Due to work culture and diversity, I hope to work at a large company like Amazon.

Before NPower, I was just trying to find any job I could get while I built out my IT skills, and then I came across an advertisement about NPower and I decided to apply. I gave it my all, and while I was going through my NPower journey, I came to realize that I was gaining the necessary skills to thrive in the IT industry. Hi, my name is Faustino Malena, I am currently a result-driven and Analytically-inclined Customer Experience Specialist for ISACA with over 1 year of IT experience. Managing service desk requests to the over 165,000+ IT Professionals of the ISACA Online portal and network, their Program Chapters, and partnering companies. In the past, I was a mathematics tutor and when I found NPower I was able to obtain credentials in IT like A+ and Google IT Support which honed my skills to become a more tech-savvy candidate for Tech Companies looking to hire fresh talent. I was first contracted as an Operation Support Tech in Bank of America supporting financial groups with their fintech needs, then their’s Follett by supporting K-12 School districts nationwide and internationally when they run into issues using the Follett Destiny SaaS product which began my curiosity with the cloud. My curiosity for Cloud led me to return to NPower once again and just like my previous experience in the program it opened my eyes to what more I can do with my skills in the future, I plan to pursue higher-level Client service roles in the realm of Cloud.

Before NPower, I was always fascinated with every facet of technology. However, as a grad student, I felt I had my chance, made my decision, and now I was stuck, locked in my path, unable to shift towards where I really wanted to be. NPower was my lifeline, they gave me another chance, an opportunity to delve wholeheartedly into my passion without fear or repercussions. The development NPower provided has immensely leveled up my knowledge, skills, and techniques that I utilize in my career now every day as a diligent and motivated Infrastructure Associate. I am truly grateful to NPower as I have no idea where I would have been with my life without this program. Before, I was endlessly just floating through life unsure of where my path would lead me, working a multitude of odd jobs to make ends meet. NPower allowed me to reclaim the ability to efficiently support myself and my family. So much has changed and this is only the beginning. It’s been almost 2 years since I’ve joined the program and after accomplishing my A+, ITF, and Cloud Practitioner, I feel confident in myself to achieve whatever other certificates that lie ahead.

I first applied to NPower in 2020 for the Spring 2021 Tech Fundamentals program. I had trouble securing a job after graduating from university with a Computer Science degree. The extra time from post-graduation combined with the pandemic pushed me to apply. My intention was to go through the Tech Fundamentals program so that I may apply to the advanced courses and build a career that further reinforces my education received from college. I was fortunate enough that the placement team was able to find a full-time opportunity at EquiLend as a Client Services Representative. While in this position, I have supported the EquiLend platform, maintaining platform health, troubleshooting issues, and completing service requests from over 100 financial institutions. After a year and a half in this position, I made the decision to continue my education through the AWS Cloud Computing course at NPower to leverage my standing in the company, so that I may push for a lateral move to a more cloud-based role. By the end of this course, I will have the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification and will aim to move forward to attain the AWS Solutions Architect certificate. The technical and soft skills I have learned at NPower have been fundamental in both establishing and continuing my career.

I joined the military right out of high school as I was eager to start life! In electronics, we learned much....and then nothing. I got out of the military and went to college- struggling the entire time to make ends meet and catch up with peers seemingly doing great. Graduated in 2.5 years and ended up with a great career in wireless technologies until a layoff messed up the best laid plan. With nPower, I was able to begin charting a new career in a completely new direction. With the doors opened because of the placement team’s great efforts, will be back to feeling good about self, and paying it forward.

I enlisted in the US Navy in 2008. I served as a Logistics Specialist for 4 years and did 4 deployments. After the Navy I went to the Art Institute of Dallas where I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production. I have always been interested in technology and computers, but I have not had the change to go back to school and pursuit that interest. I was at the VA doing my yearly physical when I saw a poster about NPower, I saw that it was a free program for veterans and spouses to help us get entry level certifications. I applied for the program and it was one of the best things I have done. I was able to get an internship at Citi, where I am continuously growing. After 2 years since I started my journey in Information Technology I am working full time at Citi Bank and I can see myself in this career for the rest of my life. With over 17 years of experience in Information Technology spanning from military service to the corporate world and Department of Education I have always enjoyed learning new cutting-edge technology. NPower continues to propel my career and enable me to combine my experience with newly acquired skills.

Before NPower I held a position as an IT Infrastructure associate for Prudential in NJ. Shortly After graduating from the NJ Tech fundamentals class, I was able to land a Network Technician role for the DOE in NYC, and recently a remote Network Engineering role for Farmers Insurance.

In the past I’ve held certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ and CCNA. With the help of NPower, I have obtained my CompTIA ITF+ Certification in Oct 2020, a Google IT Support Certification in Nov 2020, and AWS Cloud Practitioner certification in April 2023.

With my mental toughness, quick learning, and adaptability skills NPower continues to feed my thirst for knowledge by adding cloud engineer to the prowess of this Jack of all trades. I always knew I wanted to start my career in IT. I studied in school and got a degree, but reality hit me when I found out how difficult it would be to find a job. I didn’t have any experience or certifications to help me.

Then, I came across NPower and applied for IT Fundamentals. I interviewed and was accepted. NPower allowed me to experience the impact that IT has on the world. I felt that this was where I belonged. Hello my name is Kurt Parks. I am a combat action veteran of the Marine Corps and National Guard. I am a former NYC Correction Officer of 8 years and a graduate of Excelsior college with a Bachelor of science in criminal justice. I decided to pivoted in my career to tech which is much less stressful, dangerous and physically demanding. I searched for tech training that was military friendly and found NPower. This course has been immensely helpful for me to obtain the certified cloud practitioner certification. My background isn’t very tech savvy but this cloud computing course has been very easy for me understand and absorb the knowledge.

As an NPower Alumna, I had the honor of participating in all eligible training programs. After graduating in 2019 with a BA in Computer science, NPower provided opportunities to earn industry certifications and work training. I’ve earned ITF Tech Fundamentals, Security+, and now AWS Cloud Practitioner. During my tenure, NPower taught me real-life skills about career, professional development, and networking. Real-life skills are obtained but the opportunity to stay ahead as technology continues to innovate was perfect for me. I learned numerous different skill sets that I still apply in my everyday life. If newer training(s) are implemented into NPower’s organization I’ll take the time to apply. My favorite part of NPower is the lifelong connections with other fellow trainees and staff that I encountered. I joined the Marine Corps at 17 years old right after high school. I had my first child on the way and unfortunately going to college would not provide for my immediate needs. I went on to serve 12 years in the Marine Corps and was discharged Honorably. Unfortunately, I couldn’t transfer my military skills to the civilian sector and resulted in me having to explore a completely new field of work. I was offered a position with Dell EMC as part of their boot camp program which brought me to Dallas, TX. I was there for two and a half years before Covid caused a workforce reduction. When I was let go I realized my skillset was mainly with one vendor/technology. I found NPower and applied to the Tech Fundamentals Program. I was accepted to the program and thanks to the partnership with Citi I was offered a six-month apprenticeship. I was converted to a full-time employee at the end of my apprenticeship and am still currently employed at Citi. None of this would have been possible without the training I received at NPower or the partnership they had with Citi.

Before NPower, I worked as a mental health counselor, but my passion for the IT and tech field led me to study Information Science in college with hopes of earning an internship. Before I decided to change my life by attending NPower’s Tech Fundamentals course, I was working long shifts and job hopping from restaurant to restaurant. When the pandemic hit and shutdowns began, I found myself laid-off and in an unstable industry. During this time, I decided to start an IT career and a simple Google search led me to NPower. At the time, I had no idea how it would be so impactful. Since graduation from the Tech Fundamentals course, I have had the opportunity to put my skills to great use in my current IT role with a major multinational tech company. I will forever be grateful to NPower and their staff for giving me the confidence needed to build and expand my career in tech.

I joined the military immediately after high school. Although the military was never a dream for me, I’m grateful that I made that choice to join the service. The time I spent traveling and touring while serving in the military has prepared me for the challenges I couldn’t have otherwise overcome. It shaped me into a well-organized, disciplined, mentally strong individual. While serving, I received two honorary Army Achievement Medals for exemplary service. The experiences I gained from being in the military prepared me for my transition into the civilian world, where I later went to school and obtained multiple certifications and degrees for my career shift into healthcare and Information Technology. Prior to NPower I was a Computer Science student working as a part time library page at the New York Public Library. Seeking to further my computer knowledge my mother told me about NPower and its programs where I could further advance my career in tech. I enrolled in and completed the technology fundamentals course where I obtained the CompTIA A+ certification which led to me becoming a Technology Support Representative at the Brooklyn Public Library. Many of the labs that were done in class directly translated into real world skills that could be applied in my new role. I found the Tech Fundamental program to be quite challenging. My introduction to tech journey did not start off smoothly. However, it got me focused on the right approach to learning and studying about computer and certifications in a way that was distinctively different from a non-STEM major in college, to say the least. The PD sessions were empowering, definitely an eye-opening experience beyond what an academic curriculum is all about in the classroom. I began my professional career as a public school music teacher before enlisting in the US Marine Corps. There I continued my career in music, this time on the performance side as a musician in the US Marine Corp Band. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY was not the easiest growing up. I joined the military later in life because it was something I always wanted to do. Being an IT specialist in the military was an eye opener for years to come. This job engulfed me in technology and there was no turning back. After my time in service, I was still drawn to the tech side of the world. I remember receiving an e-mail from the Veteran Affairs about a program called NPower but I was unsure about it. About a month later I had an interview and that recruiter reached out to me to recommend this program because of my interests in tech. I applied for the program, got accepted and never looked back. I joined the US Navy Reserves in June 2013. I was in and out of nursing School at UT Arlington and worked jobs from customer service(Costco), Law enforcement, Commercial trucking(CDL). A colleague in the Navy reserves and NPower alumni told me about NPower and the various programs being run and encouraged me to apply when I discussed the kind of life I want to live with him. I applied and was accepted into the Fall, 2021 Tech Fundamentals program. This program is axactly what I need. I completed successfully, obtained all the certifications. I was offered a paid internship at CITI bank and converted to FTE. While at CITI, I obtained two more certifications, Linux+ and Network+ through self-studies. My return to the advanced Cybersecurity training program is a testament of the effectiveness, friendliness, professionalism of the NPower staff and the program for that matter. Simply put, I have discovered the right career path and determined to explore it to the fullest. After my time in the military ended, I had a hard time locating a profession that fit me. I went into the dental field and hated every moment of it. In 2019 I stumbled across information about NPower through Veteran resources and decided to further my education and pursue a new career field. While attending school at NPower in the coding bootcamp, one of my colleagues encouraged me to work for a company called Henry Schein in Tech Support.

I applied and was hired that year 2019 and have stayed in Tech Support until we were laid off in 2022. I stayed with the company but now in a different capacity of Customer Success. Although nice that I was able to stay with the company my passion for Tech is still my driving force. I decided to further my education and return to NPower for Cyber Security. In addition, I am attending Southern New Hampshire University for my Bachelors in Cyber Security.

I was living on my own and was trying to figure things out. I Learned about NPower from a former last classmate that was enrolled in NPower and attained a job working for Google. I felt like this would be a great opportunity to network and further my career.During my time in NPower, I felt more relieved being a classroom with individuals that wanted to grow in their careers. Before starting NPower I attended another non-profit which initially launched my IT career in Silicon Valley. Majoring in English and minoring in Pre-law, I thought I only had two options after college. Go to Law school and make my parents proud, or get my Masters, PHD and eventually become a professor, but then, I spent my last couple years of college at home, going to class virtually and trying to get used to my new reality. I graduated college in 2021 and I was not sure what path I wanted to take. I was not ready to go back to school to be a Lawyer or to Teach, so I decided to explore other options. I came across NPower without any background in Tech; but I remembered the time I took my laptop apart to fix the cracked screen in 2018. That did not go well because I knew nothing about computers but I was motivated. I wanted to try something new and figure it out. That was what inspired me to apply to Tech Fundamentals in 2021 and it still pushes me today. I hope to complete my Security+ training and I will always be grateful to NPower for giving me the resources and tools to be successful in the Tech Industry.

After graduating college the scope of employment was somewhat limited for me, I taught at different schools and then worked as a translator. I have always wanted to have more diversity and flexibility in my career, which was lacking in my previous lines of work. I have always been interested in learning about cyber security, it has overarching reach into almost every other profession, however, I did not know where to start, that all changed when I attended a speech by Chris Starling, the executive director of NPower California, at my NAVY support center. At first it seemed too good to be true, however, after attending the class it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made. Not only the classes are at no cost to the students, the amazingly dedicated staff at NPower make sure that students have the social support that is needed to complete the course. NPower has thought me the necessary skills that has enabled me to step into the technology realm and has provided me with opportunities that were beyond scope of my reach prior to taking the cyber security courses. Now I feel like I can work in practically every industry and have the diversity and the flexibility that I have longed for.

I am not exaggerating when I say this, NPower has changed my life. Before NPower I did not know what as going to do with my life. I was lost and going through a rough time with a lot of family issues. Then one day a friend of mine introduced me to NPower. That was the day I finally saw a light at the end of the tunnel because when my friend first told me about NPower my first thought this was a perfect program for me, I have always had a passion for computers and am an avid PC gamer who had built PCs before. After I separated from active duty I worked in various aspects of the communications and electronics field until my life was dramatically altered. I was assaulted and severely injured and became disabled for several years. The road back was long and full of challenges. I found myself working in the food industry in an entry-level position then worked my way up to store manager where I have stayed for over 15 years. Before NPower, I was managing a Restaurant in a small tourist town looking to return to the Tech industry. With the help of NPower, my dreams of returning to the Tech industry have become a reality by obtaining CompTIA Fundamentals and A+ as a foundation then joining advanced training with NPower Cybersecurity. I spent 4 ½ years in the Marine Corps out of high school which allowed me to travel quite extensively. When I got out, I returned home and within 2 years decided to give the Navy my time. After my military career I worked in one form or another in the medical industry. Over time I began to realize that it wasn’t quite what I wanted so I was able to have a fellow veteran introduce me to the NPower program and now I am off and running with a pretty exciting IT career. LAUNCHING TECH CAREERS TRANSFORMING LIVES

NPower’s model is a solution to building a diverse tech pipeline. Our graduates launch tech jobs with an average starting salary of $41,000–$60,000 and are positioned to advance their career path, enabling them to earn more than their peers in lower-wage jobs. Higher earning potential is the key to breaking generational cycles of poverty, positioning our students and their families to achieve long-term economic success.

WE ARE THE FUTURE OF WORK

Through partner and tech industry collaboration, our free training model is a workforce development solution for the future. In today’s economy, over 50% of all jobs require some degree of technology and digital skill. We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase in the U.S. to 13 million by 2025, according to a recent Microsoft Data Science report that estimates that digital job capacity.

Our graduates of over 6,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 3,000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees. NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities. Part of this goal is supported by our Command Shift Coalition, a national consortium of women and allies that advocate for strategies that invest in and inspire the advancement of young women of color in tech careers and aims to increase the representation of women of color in tech from 5% to 10% over the next 10 years. This coalition was sparked by ‘40 by 22’, a NPower initiative to help young women of color access the skills needed to launch careers in the tech industry in partnership with Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.
