Before NPower, I worked several dead-end jobs with no benefits and graveyard work shifts. I often had to work several overtime shifts just to make ends meet. I became fed up with the routine and grew angry at working my life away. The fact that my friend graduated from Class 2 and acquired employment inspired me to apply. My time at NPower was full of hope, and I learned that I could be more than what I was. I learned about responsibility and commitment through Tech Fundamentals and consistent professional development. In the future, I plan to give back to NPower.

I have always had a passion for technology. Growing up, I spent a lot of time outside, but when I had time to myself, I was immersed in video games and technology. Later, I began hacking my open-source Android phones to utilize untapped features for gaming. This interest led me to find different avenues in the tech world. Then, I pursued my other interest in biology and agriculture. I decided to return to the technology world by getting my CompTIA A+ certification. I believe that I can use IT to work in various environments, especially those that have similarities to situations I have already explored. My interest spans over a broad spectrum, but I was aiming to narrow my focus to expand into technology through cybersecurity.

COMPTIA A+ CERTIFIED INTERNSHIP  Baltimore Museum of Art Before discovering NPower, I struggled with my previous career, turning my focus to the IT field. I look forward to achieving more certifications and establishing myself in the world of technology.

As a laborer, I often imagined acquiring a career in technology. In high school, I had an opportunity to get into the technology field, but it didn’t work. The program helped me gain self-motivation, self-confidence, and self-love through many trials. I have also met some of the most encouraging, understanding, and resourceful mentors. I know that the relationships I have made will be capable to me later in my career. Despite the many forces against me, I kept my eye on the prize and won. For this, I would like to thank the entire NPower staff for helping me build a strong foundation for the rest of my career. Things weren’t working for me in Baltimore, so I moved to Florida for a brand-new start where I took a job as a construction worker. Unfortunately, damages from a category five hurricane forced my family and me to move back to Baltimore. After my short stint as a security guard, I came across a pamphlet for NPower. I immediately applied and can say my entire life has completely changed. NPower brought my revived my dream of pursuing IT. I was excited about the opportunity and decided to move forward with the application process. I have always had a strong passion for technology and computer systems. Before NPower, I only had book knowledge on such subjects. The program played a critical role in me obtaining experiential learning in the IT field through labs, internships, and professional development. I feel prepared to continue my education in the technology field. After graduation, I look forward to increasing my knowledge with a bachelor’s and master’s degree.

COMPTIA A+ CERTIFIED INTERNSHIP  Northrop Grumman Ever since I was a child, I’ve been drawn to a future in technology. I didn’t have the means to follow that dream, so I spent my years just dreaming instead of doing. NPower has changed my life and helped me grow as a professional. NPower also granted me access to the tools and mentorship I needed to make a real difference as a person. NPower has opened doors for me and assisted me in reaching my career goals.

COMPTIA A+ CERTIFIED

DIANE YOUNG

Before starting NPower, I was working as a cashier and in warehousing. Both jobs allowed me to make money, but I was still financially struggling and didn’t have a passion for either. I even thought about opening my own daycare center. However, I realized that a lot comes with being an entrepreneur. I wasn’t quite ready for that journey. I wanted to establish a career and have a solid plan for the future. While volunteering at the University of Maryland Hospital, I ran to an old friend who told me about NPower. After that day I felt like I had another chance to better myself. I always had a passion for technology but didn’t know how to make a career out of it. NPower gave me an idea of how to make my dreams a reality.
