“
I joined the Navy as a teenager with no career prospects and a massive amount of debt after withdrawing from a school I could not afford… Eight years later I found myself rethinking my approach to living again, ending my contract and facing unemployment for the first time. Life transitioning was not easy. I was troubled, I entered college again, but found myself, listless…I chose NPower because I wanted hands-on experience in all the things my college classes were talking about. NPower is a stepping stone. Tech Fundamentals provided me with a wealth of knowledge that I could use moving forward, helped me network, and gain confidence in a field I once found intimidating.
”
Latoya Robinson is an alumnus of NPower Jersey City’s Class 3 who served in the United States Navy for eight years as an Intelligence Specialist. After separating from the military, Latoya graduated from Berkeley College with a Bachelors of Science degree in IT Management. Through NPower, she obtained her CompTIA A+ certification and interned at TD Ameritrade where she worked in Application Support and completed a four-month extension. While at TD Ameritrade, Latoya aided support of client applications used for financial services, ran daily Linux script which helped de-conflict any collision of servers between Change Management and Patch Management, analyzed quarterly alerts for trends and patterns resulting in a better understanding of the alerting system, and improved alert coordination between teams. Latoya was recently hired by Impensa, Inc. in October 2017 where she accepted a role as a Junior Business Analyst.

My NPower experience has shown me how to be part of a professional community. The IT field is always changing and it is important to work with fellow “techies” to find opportunities to do our best work. This was a great way to get a start in the IT field. Before NPower, I was a person interested in computers and looking for work. Moving forward, I am an IT professional with a solid network of colleagues and an exciting future. I am grateful for all the friendships and professional relationships I have developed.

My experience with the program was amazing and the staff has been nothing short of extraordinary. Any doubts I had vanished on day one with the show of sincerity, genuine concern, and the respect shown us veterans. The program is perfect for veterans and led by a Navy veteran himself. The staff outlined what the program entailed, expectations, and how we would be held accountable. Perfect! We had no choice but to succeed.

Internship Placement
Collins Anokye, 24, Newark Internship Site: MARS Global Services
IT has always been an interesting and satisfying field for me ever since I assisted a neighbor with his computer and troubleshooting his network. After graduating college with a Physics degree, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next. While searching for technical jobs, I came across the NPower advertisement. I knew right then and there that it was something I wanted to do. There were numerous things about computers that I didn’t know but my knowledge of computers has increased since the course started. The interactions with peers and individuals who are in the field has uplifted my hopes of one day being in a powerful position. All in all, NPower has been good to me and my goal is to build on what I started. I want to pursue more certifications and work my way up the ladder of IT. My goal is to someday return to the program as a speaker and be a source of encouragement like others have been to me.
Christian Hernán Argudo Vásconez, 23, Teaneck Internship Site: York Street Project
I am an experienced computer science engineer with significant design, support, and implementation of network projects experience. I also have over two years of IT experience with foundational knowledge of networking, cybersecurity, and Linux administration as well strong analytical skills with problem-solving abilities to deliver quality results to both end-user clients and management. I obtained my Bachelor´s degree in Ecuador, but seven months ago I decided to move to the United States in order to explore more job opportunities and increase my knowledge of the IT field. I applied to NPower because it was a great start to make my goals come true.
Jamonte Badger, 23, Newark Internship Site: Gadget Software
I originally joined NPower because I was seeking change. I was looking to move in a positive direction and really gain some viable knowledge and skills that I could use in my life. When the opportunity to join NPower became available, I simply could not turn away. I had been to college and I’ve been working since I was 11 years old, but I still felt like I wasn’t preparing myself for the world around me. NPower has helped me hone my communication skills and learn some technical skills, while also showing me how the world outside of school operates. Thank you to everyone at NPower! 9

Kirti Beniwal, 23, Jersey City Internship Site: Gadget Software
I am a student at NJIT and will be graduating soon. I am doing an internship at Gadget Software. I applied to the NPower program through my college website and was selected for the program. I joined NPower to learn more about hardware. Since my major is computer science, I have knowledge of software but I wanted to expand my hardware knowledge too. I was provided many resources which helped my overall development. It was a good experience.
Imane Bougtab, 22, North Bergen Internship Site: KPMG
I joined NPower because I was in college, not really knowing what I would be doing post-graduation. Personally, I was never interested in coding which was all I would hear about pertaining to computers and I was unaware of the scale of IT and its involvement in the workforce. My brother told me about NPower and urged me to sign up because I had always enjoyed tinkering with computers and fixing them. I am extremely grateful that he did because in this program I have discovered a new set of mentors, friends, and the possibility to go farther in life.
Zakaria Bougtab, 24, North Bergen Internship Site: Pearson
I was lost before finding NPower and wasn’t happy working as a correctional officer. I was unhappy with my life until taking a step toward doing what I had passion for which was IT. NPower was the program that sounded too good to be true. But it was true. Without the staff’s help, I honestly don’t know what I would be doing today. Not only did I learn what I needed regarding computers, but I also learned how to become a better person and become marketable in the workforce. Anyone can take a class in IT, but creating a professional is much greater. I feel very blessed to have joined this amazing program and worked with amazing individuals. I cannot thank you enough.

Katherine Ciocon Ceballos, 22, Jersey City Hired: Ockupy
After recently graduating with Computer Science degree from the University of St. La Salle in the Philippines, I decided to continue my studies upon returning to Jersey City. I had previously been taught about software development and other aspects of programming and wanted to expand my knowledge by learning about the hardware behind it. I found NPower online while looking for jobs before my college graduation. It was a big risk for me because I wanted to help my family financially after graduating. But I chose to invest in myself similar to how NPower invested in me. I worked as a part-time programming teacher and a graphic design freelancer on the side while I attended the NPower classes. I learned about the many issues a computer might have and what to do in when those issues arise. It feels great knowing that I can do more than just programming on a computer. It feels like a great accomplishment to be A+ Certified considering the hard work my fellow classmates and I put into the class. I grew more skilled in the IT industry and more confident in stepping into the world of technology.
Pablo Chacha, 22, Newark NJ Internship Site: Clover Health
I found myself stuck and not knowing how to reach my goals in life. I was certain that working with technology would be my future but I wasn’t sure how to get there. I was fortunate enough to find a place like NPower where I was provided with all the tools needed to figure things out and, most importantly, I had the support of a great staff. Although this has been one of the most difficult changes I’ve faced, the rewards have been much greater.
Tenzin Choney, 21, Jersey City Internship Site: TD Ameritrade
Having just graduated from university, I was eager to get my foot in the door and be in full exposure of IT to gain more experience. NPower provided that for me and so much more. At NPower, I learned a lot to further add to my repertoire. NPower also taught me the interviewing skills that I previously didn’t possess which is more than I could have ever asked for. NPower really set me on the right path with the right resources necessary to succeed.

Winston J. Del Villar, 24, Perth Amboy Internship Site: University Academy Charter High School
I decided to join NPower because I needed a change in my lifestyle. You could say I was lost for a little bit and it was time for me to go in a different direction. I was already interested in technology and I wanted to learn more depth. This program really helped me become a better person and it vastly expanded my knowledge on computers.
Muhammad Faruque, 23, Jersey City Internship Site: Pearson
I joined NPower because I believed getting an A+ Certification in technology would be key to helping me to achieve my long term goals. I will be graduating soon with a Bachelors in Information Systems from NJIT. NPower has equipped me with the tools that I need to continue learning/growing in the IT world and make me more appealing in the job market. Joining NPower was one of the best decisions I’ve made and all of this would not have been possible without the great team at NPower. Thank you so much for the opportunity.
Nigel Golding, 24, Newark
Internship Site: Office of Information Technology of City of Newark
I always say NPower has truly been a blessing for me. I graduated from Rutgers University in 2016, not being where I hoped to be upon graduation, with no career trajectory and in debt is a challenging reality for many, like myself. Since graduation my goal was to pursue a career in information security, but I didn’t have the means to further my education. I was at a unfavorable point in life because I really didn’t have much work experience and a clear path on how I was going to reach my career goals. The stresses of life, financials, and family depending on your success is daunting at times. Yet, I never gave up. While job searching, I found NPower and it has been a key impact for me. This organization opened so many doors and reaffirmed a career in IT for me, while showing me practical ways to go where I wanted. I learned here and the resources provided were gems that I couldn’t find anywhere else. The staff truly upholds NPower’s mission and they genuinely want to see you thrive. For that, I am forever grateful to NPower because they helped guide me on my path to success.

Lavan Jackson, 19, Plainfield Internship Site: Gadget Software
I was a student pursuing a degree in information technology at Rutgers University, New Brunswick but had to leave abruptly due to financial constraints. Every moment I wasn’t in class I felt like I was slowly wasting away. I got to see my friends having new experiences in college while I was either at home or work and one day, I just had enough. It was time I took back control of my life. Just because I was out of class did not mean that I had to stop learning or improving. I got in contact with the United Way of Greater Union County and eventually found out about NPower. What to say about NPower? Well, let’s see. I learned a lot of valuable information not just about information technology but about how to survive and succeed in a workplace. I gave my all to studying and was rewarded with a CompTIA A+ certification, received a spot in an internship, and made several worthwhile connections during my time here. Now back to what I have to say about NPower. I’d say that joining their Tech Fundamentals program was one of, if not, the best decisions I have ever made. NPower didn’t just bring my life back on track, they made it better than when I started.
Thomas Jacob, 24, Brick Internship Site: NJAMHAA
Growing up, I always had a passion for computers and technology, taking PCs apart, and tinkering with them was a hobby. As I grew up, I got into the field of telecommunications and data infrastructure by installing phone systems and network wiring. I found myself wanting to move into the computer and networking side of IT to better myself as a technician and to follow my passion. Joining NPower’s Tech Fundamentals program was my first step to achieving my goal. They have helped me tremendously by giving me the tools to get my CompTIA A+ certification. The skills I have learned will stay with me forever.
Kevin Kisielewski, 20, Bayonne Internship Site: City of Jersey City
I have always known that computers were a passion, I just never knew how to pursue that passion. I completed my GED and was at a standstill for what I wanted to do with my life. Doing what any young adult with no direction would do, I scoured the internet for something that could help drive my life forward and that’s when I found an ad for a tech program called NPower. With the help of everyone in the program I am now able to pursue my passion and for that, I am grateful.

Teddy Holt, 25, Englewood Internship Site: MARS Global Services
Prior to joining NPower’s Tech Fundamentals, I worked as a transporter at Englewood Hospital Medical Center. Although I enjoyed interacting with the medical staff, visitors, and most importantly the patients, I felt that it was time to expand my career. I graduated from St. Peter’s University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. This achievement was the foundation of my information technology career. NPower has given me an opportunity to expand and exercise my technical skills and I will forever be grateful for this opportunity. I look forward to my continued growth in the technology field so that one day I can be a great asset to an organization.
Kinza Naveed, 23, Jersey City Internship Site: Gadget Software
Although I had completed school and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, I still felt that I needed some hands-on experience within the field. I came across NPower on New Jersey Institute of Technology’s website and thought there was nothing better than what this program had to offer. Being part of this amazing program has given me the chance to have a different outlook within the IT field. I am finally able to understand and pick up on tech vocab! It has been a life changing experience.
Ariel Rodriguez, 24, Jersey City Internship Site: Jersey City Public Library
I found NPower through a stroke of luck. For a long time I had too many ideas for careers— ideas and hopes that I never really took action on. I joined the program for an opportunity and a chance to improve my career opportunities and living conditions going forward. Through NPower I learned that the path to success isn’t luxurious or easy to travel. My classmates and I made a lot of sacrifices, but through it all the goal was worth it.

Dhrubo Roy, 22, North Brunswick Internship Site: NJAMHAA
This is my last year attending NJIT for my bachelor’s degree in information technology. As I was applying to internships, I came across NPower. I made a great decision joining the program. NPower’s resources helped develop my life and career. Fortunately, as an NPower alumni I will always get support whenever I need it. I am thankful for this opportunity and would recommend to others.
Tyshonn Samuels, 20, Union Internship Site: KIPP NJ
After attending college and having to leave, I didn’t know what to do because school was my number one priority. I picked up a full-time job as a sales associate but knew retail wasn’t going to get me far in life. My counselor at KIPP contacted me and told me about NPower. NPower has allowed me to make my future the way I want it to be with the completion of the A+ certification. That certification has made me so valuable to many IT departments. I’ve learned the basic tech fundamentals and how to approach life in a professional manner.
Sanjana Shah, 21, Edison
Hired at: Checkpoint Software Technologies
I joined NPower after making the very difficult decision to move back to United States after studying abroad and not accepting the job offer I had back where I studied. I came back home to the US with a degree in computer engineering in one hand and nothing to do with it in the other. With the career kick-off I received at NPower and the professional relationships I made in the process, I can proudly that I am so happy I made the decision I made. I received the right resources and assistance and not only passed my A+ certification exam, but did it in half the time, and got an employment offer from the largest security vendor in the world. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for NPower helping me shape my career and personality.

I had recently attempted an online coding boot camp and dropped out due to cost and an uncertain job search. I knew I wanted to work in technology, but wasn’t sure how to get into the field. Looking up different training programs, I found NPower. I have had a great experience here. The networking and professional development have been amazing. I’ve learned a ton about technology and how computers work. I’ve met some great friends and colleagues and I am excited to move forward in my career with the support of NPower.
Daniel Vidals, 25, Paterson Hired at: Bayonne Community Bank
I discovered NPower while job hunting online, and decided to join because I felt the program was right for me. I wanted to get my A+ Certification, but also gain insight into the IT industry. NPower has been a blessing. Not only did I acquire my A+ Certification, but I also had access to resources that helped me improve/gain valuable workplace skills. I feel NPower has really helped me become a better individual as well as make friends and network with other young adults looking to break into the IT industry.

Malik Gerard Baptiste (US Navy) Served 9 Years
From: Brooklyn, NY Internship Site: Queens Workforce1 Career Center Job in the Military: Sales and Services I was born in August 1978 in Montrouis, Haiti. My family migrated to New York in the early 1990’s. As child, I enjoyed playing sports. My ultimate goal was to become a professional soccer player in Europe. After a short tryout with the Miami Fusion professional soccer team, I decided to join the US Navy and worked in three different commands, acquiring many accolades, including junior sailor of the quarter and sailor of the year. I obtained special qualifications such as service warfare, master helmsman, damage control team leader, and departmental safety representative. After advancing to petty officer, I attended advance supply Retail Operation Management School in Norfolk, Virginia. I learned records keeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory management. A couple years later, I relocated to Italy, working as records keeper and playing professional soccer for the Lamadelena’s local soccer team. I honorably separated from the service in July 2010, and later that year attended Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, FL where I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Though I am new to the field of technology, I believe this program works and is changing the life of my fellow veterans. I also firmly believe that this is a very rewarding, sustainable career and I am very excited for this opportunity. I am sincerely grateful and believe the skills I learned in the military will help me continue to be successful at everything I intend to do in life.
Carl Braun (US Navy and Navy Reserves) Served 21 Years
From: Jersey City, NJ Internship Site: City of Jersey City Job in the Military: Missile Officer After active duty in the Navy, I started a career in information technology in 1985, working in various parts of the industry for 22 years until I retired in 2007 to pursue teaching high school. Recently, I decided to return to the IT field, but having been out for ten years, I knew I needed to refresh my skills and update myself on technology advancements. Working with the Veterans’ Affairs Office and the New Jersey Department of Labor, I was referred to the NPower program. The more I researched NPower, the better it appeared. The quality of the training has been top-notch and I feel complete confidence in my ability to return to work in the IT field. In addition, the NPower approach of combining job-seeking skills and placement assistance together with the technical training is a winning mix guaranteeing success for candidates in this program. 18
JerrMichael Canson (US Marine Corps) Served 6 Years
From: Dumont, NJ Hired at: Network CPR Job in the Military: Field Radio Operator During my six years in the Marine Corps, I learned that I have a passion for the always evolving field of IT. Being in the military field of communications has increased my interest in the different types of technologies that are available. Gaining this specialty in the IT field enabled me to be a strong administrator for my units as well as train others, which has brought a great satisfaction. I joined NPower because of my life-long passion for computers and communications. I’ve worked with computers and other various type of technologies and government communications equipment for over 13 years. NPower has strengthened my knowledge with the most updated changes in IT with the A+ hardware and software certification. I know that with the outstanding credentials that NPower has with multiple companies, highly regarded graduates, and success stories from past alumni, I will be a great success myself. I personally have always been a hands-on type of learner rather than reading books. NPower was able to empower me with improving and strengthening my book-reading habits of learning as well as understanding the material best through a hands on, virtualized simulations approach. It was a blessing for me to be accepted into the NPower program which has given me the highest confidence in finding success in the IT field. I am forever grateful to be part of the NPower family. Thank you, NPower.
Kamal Dunston (US Army) Served 2 Years
From: North Plainfield, NJ Internship Site: Urban League of Hudson County Job in the Military: Signal Support Systems Specialist I am a US Army veteran from Newark, NJ who spent many years working in the customer service field after my discharge from the military in 1998. I was looking for a change. I had always enjoyed working with computers but hadn’t had the opportunity to do it professionally since my time in the military. However, it remained an interest of mine and NPower gave me the chance to pursue it. They helped me update my skills in the rapidly evolving world of technology. When I first arrived at NPower, I didn’t really know what to expect. What I found was a great staff and wonderful classmates who were very helpful to me in the process of acquiring a new skill set. It is difficult to describe how grateful I am for NPower allowing me the opportunity to gain new knowledge to combine with my previous skills to advance my career. Thank you again, NPower. 19

Brady Fernandez (US Marine Corps) Served 4 Years
From: Paterson, NJ Internship Site: TBD Job in the Military: Radio Operator and Satellite Transmitter I joined the US Marine Corps right after high school. I was 18 years old and had my doubts about entering college at the time so I decided to serve my country. I served from 2012 until 2016 as a radio operator. When my time in the military ended, I had a hard time looking for a job. While attending school, I came across NPower though Craigslist, and I had my doubts about it because how can a program like NPower be completely free? I never had an interest in computers or technology but I saw it as a learning experience and as something that I could build upon. I have never regretted starting the program. The staff of NPower has been great, helping me learn a lot about computers in a short amount of time. I am really thankful I came across NPower to start my IT career.
Yoandri R. Franklin (US Army) Served 3 Years
From: North Bergen, NJ Internship Site: TD Ameritrade Job in the Military: Communication Systems Installer/Maintainer I came from Cuba at the age of 15 in 2003 and went straight to high school where I started learning English and other subjects. I tried Community College after graduating, but quickly found out it wasn’t what I wanted to do and joined the Army in 2010 where I was introduced to technology. One year later I found myself in Afghanistan and one of my friends gave me a series of networking videos to watch to pass time. It was then that I realized the path I wanted to take as a career. After the Army, I immediately began to work on a college degree on Network Communications Management that I obtained in April 2017. I hoped that with a college degree I was going to have an easier time finding employment, but that wasn’t the case. Most companies wanted a great deal of experience that I unfortunately didn’t have, so that’s how I came across the NPower program. Thanks to this great program, I am finally starting to see the light at the end of this tunnel. I couldn’t be happier and more satisfied, and I can only hope that NPower keeps doing the great work they do so more well-deserving veterans can keep getting the help they need.

Rodney Fraser (US Air Force) Served 10 Years
From: Union City, NJ Internship Site: Atlas Job in the Military: Administrative Management I joined the US Air Force at 22 years of age. After working many jobs ranging from retail to mover, I decided to make a change in my life. After leaving the Air Force due to single parenthood, hurricane Andrew, and a buyout, I moved back to New Jersey at my mother’s request. Once I separated, I was no longer affiliated with the military and worked numerous jobs, not careers. Since I was not happy with my job of 13 years, I decided to leave and start anew. I received an email from Joann Northgrave about the opportunity to attend the NPower A+ Certification course for veterans. NPower took me out of my comfort zone. It has been over 20 years since I attended any school and it was challenging to say the least. I’ve met some great veterans and will always keep in touch.
Tariq Hannah (US Marine Corps) Served 8 Years
From: Newark, NJ Internship Site: Team Interrupters, Inc Job in the Military: Accounting Administration I joined NPower because I wanted to learn about IT. From: Jersey City, NJ Internship Site: Hudson Community Enterprises Job in the Military: Boatswain Mate I served as a boatswain mate in the Navy. Now I am in the reserves continuing my service. After coming back from active duty, I was looking for a job but lacking formal experience, skills, and knowledge, I desired to further my education in the IT field. During my search, I came across NPower on a Craigslist listing. I decided to do research on the program and I discovered the program was fast-paced and covered basic IT skills needed in the industry. Best of all, it was free. So I applied, had an interview, and just like that I was in the program. Fifteen weeks flew by as did the 901 and 902 tests for my A+ Certification. At the internship, I learned what it means to be an IT technician. I am grateful to NPower for opening a career path in which I can excel.
David Gazzara Jones (US Air Force) Served 13 Years
From: North Plainfield, NJ Internship Site: Urban League of Hudson County Job in the Military: Transportation Specialist I’m a 51 year old veteran of the US Air Force with thirteen years of service and a 20 year career in the IT industry. I was fortunate enough to cross paths with NPower after being informed by the VA of Lyons, NJ about their program. NPower has offered me knowledge, exposure, and the skills to continue my career at no expense to me and for that I will be forever grateful.

Through hard work and dedication, I did exactly that and was living the dream, working for some of the most prestigious private country clubs in the state of New Jersey. That hard work finally caught up with me after almost 20 years in the industry. After multiple surgeries (seven, but who’s counting?) my doctors told me it was time to hang up the chef jacket and try to pursue a different career. What a shock! Trying to find work was extremely difficult and it was through my veterans rep at the DOL in NJ that I was exposed to the NPower program. Without any IT background or training, I took my shot and applied. IT is everywhere and after doing research, I found the career choices were endless so I figured it would be a win/win. I just needed to get my foot in the door. Throughout the interview process, I stressed that I would make the most of the opportunity if given the chance and it wouldn’t be wasted. Haniyyah might have gotten tired of me telling her that. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity NPower gave my family and me. I will never forget that and I hope to someday give NPower as much as they have given me. What I learned at NPower was that there was finally a training program that cared about our country’s veterans. Everyone single staff member from day one made sure that we knew that. Not only did they provide an excellent A+ Certification program, but they also provided resume writing skills, interviewing skills, and shared real life experiences within the industry. They exposed us to other companies and staffing firms in hopes of getting us experience through the internship process to gain full time employment. The biggest thing that I’ve learned or gained from NPower is that I know have a new “family” one that I can rely on as well as them on me. Thank you, NPower!

Kennice Mahome-Kautner (US Air Force) Served 4 Years
From: Pemberton, NJ Internship Site: Trenton Housing Authority Job in Military: Aviation Resource Management I served four years active duty in the US Air Force as an Aviation Resource Management Journeyman. After active duty, I spent time working in several customer service positions where I noticed the need for computer skills and literacy to stay relevant in the job market. Research brought me to NPower’s website and I discovered the training program was exactly what I was looking for, and more. I came into the NPower program without any technical skills and left with the knowledge and experience to begin my career in the IT field. Thanks to NPower and the on-the-job experience I gained from my internship, I am confident in my ability as an IT professional. I thank NPower for jumpstarting my career knowledge and I plan to continue pursuing education as a result.
Rasheem McAllister (US Army) Served 4 Years
From: Newark, NJ Internship Site: All Stars Project of New Jersey Job in Military: IT Specialist After leaving the military for career advancement, I found it very hard to transition to the civilian side of IT. After having my first child, I decided to further my education so I can provide a better life for my family. I found NPower while searching through job postings and decided it was worth a shot. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. NPower gave me so much knowledge for working on the job, not just passing an certification exam. The instructors are skilled and tech savvy. The staff provided so much support for me and my family throughout the program. Your won’t find training and knowledge like this for free at any other school or organization.

Lisa McCall (US Army) Served 2.5 Years
From: South Plainfield, NJ Internship Site: Center for Community Schools Job in Military: Animal Care Technician I was a specialist 4 animal care technician (91T) in the Army. I was stationed in Belgium at S.H.A.P.E. (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe). After the military, I used the GI Bill to receive an Associates in Science with an emphasis in Computer Science. Since graduating, I have worked in a neurosurgical office as a certified medical assistant, but mainly as a programmer in COBOL and AS/400-RPG with the last 10-15 years focusing on RPG. I learned about NPower through a veterans job fair and thought it would be a good idea to add the skill set of computer troubleshooting and repair to my background as well as programming. I want to thank NPower’s staff and instructors for the learning opportunity and support as we all worked toward obtaining our A+ Certifications.
Roberto A. Prado (US Navy) Served 6 Years
From: Hackensack, NJ Internship Site: TBD Job in Military: Fire Controlman My military career started at the young age of 18 in December 2008. In my six years of service, I deployed twice, attended various different trainings, and gained a copious amount of life experience. After six long, faithful years of service, I opted to enjoy the freedoms I defended for such a long time. I attended college for a few years until I realized that the traditional way of learning was not for me. I would then work as an IT technician for a prominent hospital, Mayo Clinic. Although the opportunity was amazing, I decided to leave the state of Florida and head back home to the great state of New Jersey. While looking for work, I stumbled upon an ad that would change my life for the better: NPower. The NPower program was offering something I could not believe: a chance to get my A+ Certification for free. Although my years of experience had gotten me very far, the certification would cement me as a technician in the IT field. I hopped on board and took full advantage of the program. Today, I am grateful for the opportunity the NPower program has given me. The program has showed me that there is truly no limit to what can be achieved if given the chance to perform.

Ronald D. Pratt (US Army National Guard) Served 5 Years
From: Irvington, NJ Hired at: KIPP NJ Job in Military: Combat Engineer Specialist After I was discharged from the military, I was confused as to what I wanted to do with my life. I decided to go to Essex County College and then transferred to Seton Hall University where I received a good quality education. However, financial constraints wouldn’t allow me to finish furthering my education so I had to take time off to figure some things out. That is when I decided to use my CDL license to get a job as a truck driver and to explore the country for a couple of years while I figured out what I wanted to do next with my life. Unfortunately, I lost my job as an owner operator but I didn’t give up and as I was searching for another opportunity to feed my family, I received a letter from the unemployment office about free IT training at NPower. That’s when my interest in IT was rejuvenated and I realized how much I appreciated technology for connecting people from all around in one place through the internet. I’m glad I applied to NPower because this program taught a tremendous amount of information in a short time. The best part about the program was the exposure to technology I didn’t know existed and this aspect is what wakes me up in the morning.
Maria Serrano Borrero US Navy Reserve Spouse From: Jersey City, NJ Internship Site: Pearson I am a US Navy spouse and I have a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. I’ve always been inclined to the computer field. When I came to United States, I looked for an academic opportunity that would allow me to develop and enhance my tech skills in order to improve work options in my new country. One day while looking for a job at a One Stop Career Center in Jersey City, I came across an Open Recruitment Event about NPower and without any doubt applied and was accepted. NPower gave me the training and the right tools to take my first step with confidence in the changing world of technology. I am very grateful for all the effort that the great team made every day and for their genuine concern. This journey of my life had a happy ending. I feel blessed to have been part of this wonderful experience that I am sure will open many doors for me in the near future.
