NPower Maryland Tech Fundamentals Spring 2022
I am so grateful for the NPower program for completely transforming my life. I can now afford to buy a house for me and my son, something I never thought possible.

NA’ARAH ADAMS
I have always been interested in science and technology, but I struggled to break into the industry. NPower helped me do that. They sharpened my technical skills as well as my professional skills. I have learned a lot from being in NPower, and I am fortunate to have participated in the program.
ANGEL AGUIRRE
Before starting NPower, I was working in construction and struggling to make ends meet due to layoffs and being unable to find work. I have always had a strong passion for tech since a young age but never knew how to apply this passion to a career. I began researching remote tech jobs and found that many people were starting new careers in this industry. This sparked my curiosity and shortly after is when I discovered the NPower program. I decided to dive head-first into this new stage of my life and began absorbing everything in this program. I felt comfortable during this time because the people who currently lead the program made it easy to learn, regardless of mistakes made along the way. This opportunity has been a blessing for me especially since it was all 100% free. All I had to do was show up, do the work, and study. With these newfound skills and training, alongside my IT Fundamentals (ITF+) certification, I look forward to launching my tech career and growing within this industry. I would like to thank the NPower Maryland staff for dedicating their time and resources to us the trainees and in turn, allowing me to better myself as an individual and as a professional.
ADEBOLA AJIBADE
Before NPower I was a college student not sure what I wanted to do. I’ve always had an interest in tech but never knew where to start or what to do. It was during covid where I was asking myself what I wanted to do with my life. Until one day my mother came home and asked me to sign up for NPower, and I never looked back. NPower has not only taught me about tech but also how to speak during interviews. I’m happy and grateful for the opportunity NPower has given me.
RALIA AMINU
Prior to NPower finding a career path was a struggle for me, I spent time going from one industry to the next feeling stuck and unfulfilled. I realized how much the IT field was growing and took an interest in exploring the industry, I was reluctant to start a program due to my financial limitations at the time. Then a friend recommended NPower to me. Finding out NPower was completely free was unbelievable. Although I faced challenges during the course, the guidance and support shown by the NPower team was incredible. Not only has this program allowed me to obtain an ITF+ certification, it has equipped me with skills needed to show up as a better professional. I’m optimistic to see where this will take me.
U.S. ARMY/ U.S. NAVY
11 Years and currently still serving
Placement: Direct Hire, TEKsystems
Job in the Military: Military Police
Prior to NPower, I served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserves and three years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. In my civilian career I am a police officer and have been in the field for 5 years. I made the decision to make a career change and pursue something that I was passionate about and that’s when I decided to get into the IT field. I found out about NPower through the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and I’m glad I chose to go through with the training. The training has been very valuable in my job search and has given me the confidence to pursue further education in the Cybersecurity field. Looking forward to my new career in tech thanks to NPower!
DAVID ASHEKUN
Before starting NPower, I had no idea what I would love to do for the future or the career path I would choose to pursue. I was in and out of college trying to get my associate degree in electrical engineering until my brother talked about how NPower had helped become the person he is today. Initially he wasn’t into tech but the instructors at NPower were patient with him and were able to teach and explain the fundamentals of tech and now his love for it is ever growing. I decided to join to see if tech career was the right choice for me and discovered this was just the program for me. Classes are free so this made me feel there was no harm in trying. I was really focused on the process and the staff were very helpful all through my time here. They provided me with the necessary tools, knowledge, in order to gain experience and succeed in the IT field. With my new skills and my IT Fundamentals (ITF+) certification, I’m happy to start my journey in the IT field. Thank you NPower.
RICHARD AWUAH
Prior to NPower, I knew little about the information technology industry and the opportunities in them. NPower provided me with training, resources, and mentorship to navigate this burgeoning industry. I believe I am well equipped and ready to begin my career in this field after graduation.
TATYANA BOND
Before I joined NPower, I worked minimum wage jobs and lacked the skills for higher paying jobs. I wanted to get a bachelor’s degree but I was unable to due to financial circumstances. My brother completed this program and he introduced me to tech. I never really had an interest in computers but I thought to give it a try. I am still learning a lot about technology every day I attend class. I am still working on my technical and soft skills. So far, I have learned about elevator pitches and how to write a professional resume, and I look forward to using these skills to seek full-time employment after completing the program.
DEJA BURGESS
Before I started NPower I was lost. The pandemic hit, lost my job, just had a baby and was trying to figure out what steps to take next to get back on my feet. Then one day I just so happened to come across NPower on social media. It seemed interesting so I decided to look into it. Once I spoke to Kyle Wise and learned more about the program I was intrigued and saw an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up. My time at NPower between Professional Development and preparing for ITF+ certification gave me the knowledge and, confidence I needed as I enter this new path of my career in technology. After graduation, I can’t wait to use my new set of skills and continue to grow as I pursue my career in something I truly will love. Thanks to NPower for the staff members who continued to push me as I completed this journey. I truly appreciated the time and patience they put into educating me on the fundamentals of Information Technology.
JUANYE CAMPBELL
Not only is NPower a first step, but it’s a step in the right direction. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I wanted to do after high-school and I didn’t have a clue. It wasn’t until I had a conversation with my college administrator where he introduced me to the world of tech. After that conversation, I knew a career in tech was right for me. NPower came to my school when we hosted a college and career fair and I was immediately interested in the program. At NPower, we learned all the fundamental knowledge necessary to land an entry level position in tech. On top of that, NPower helps you practice for interviews and helps you create a professional resume. You learn how to create an effective elevator pitch and get the opportunity to network with a whole host of people and potential employers. I feel like NPower has brought me one step closer to becoming the person I want to be.
DARLINGTON CHENEKAN
Prior to NPower, I was a student in high school trying to figure out my next steps in life after graduating. I always had a passion for videography and social media influence, but wasn’t sure how to turn my passion into a career. I came across NPower through an interview on FOX45 with Mike Gimbel and decided that this would be a good base to start any IT related careers. Through NPower I’ve learned professionalism, preparation, and networking skills that I even use to help my mom when she has problems with her computer. With my new skills, I plan to get more hands-on experience in the IT field and continue to obtain more certifications. NPower is the truth!
KEVIN CHERRY, JR.
Before coming across NPower, I was a disciplined young man ready to start a new journey in life. A lot of the information taught by instructors was new to me. The knowledge we learned about tech, jobs and professionalism really helped me to be confident in the real world. I have a better understanding of the job environment and the many positions and roles when it comes to the tech side of companies. I appreciate the endearment and patience the instructors and other staff has showed the class. I am glad I didn’t miss out on a chance to build connections with people who care about my success.
MEVELIN COXALL
I dropped out of my third year of community college and focused on working. I was overwhelmed and was falling back on my studies. At first, I was not going to be in this cohort as I originally planned on waiting to a future time. I decided to revise my resumé and sent in the application - the rest is history! Now I am excited that my future looks bright.
DOUGLAS DUNNIGAN
Before joining NPower, I was freshly new to the Baltimore area and I knew that I wanted to do something different then my previous job. I started looking in the area and came across NPower. I did my research and saw what amazing work they were doing in the community through their program. I saw how alumni that graduated from the program were doing amazing in IT. I didn’t really know anything about IT at the time and I chose to join to learn about the growing IT industry. During my time with NPower, I gained the necessary skills I needed to pass my ITF+ certification exam.
CHRISEAN DOWER
Just out of high school, I knew I didn’t want to go to college, but wanted to obtain certifications in four subjects (tech, business, construction, and digital media). I was uncertain which program I wanted to attend for tech, then my cousin introduced me to NPower— she told me it was a wonderful program that would help me advance my technical skills and further help me with job opportunities. I decided to apply and go through with the interview process, then got accepted. Since day one, NPower has helped me advance my skills in the tech world, helping me better understand all core components of hardware, software, networking and security. Lessons were concrete and understandable, and if there weren’t, instructors were there to assist. Not only advancing my tech skills, but my personal skills with Professional Development Days— with interviews, speaking, personal and time management, etc. I’m happy I took advantage of theopportunity to attend NPower and will continue to expand my knowledge. I look forward to jumping into the tech work field after completing all my needed certification.
ISAIAH DRAWN
Before NPower I was out of work for about a year and a half and applying for jobs every day. Through joining the NPower program, I wanted to take a leap of faith. I knew something needed to change and I knew I needed to do this for myself. I wanted the education to match my experience. After NPower, I plan on using these skills to start at help desk and further my education by hands on experience and helping people by using my customer service skills.
BRANDON MATTHEW DUNN
Before NPower, I had recently graduated from high school with no real goals in life. There was a dream but it wasn’t of my own. I was told law was my calling in life and at one point I was almost convinced myself but after a relative told me that IT was a growing industry, I decided to do some research. After some brief browsing, I found out about NPower on the official Maryland government website and decided that this program was best for me after seeing the opportunities they provided. It was a worthwhile decision because I’ve met so many wonderful people, especially the amazing staff and I left with IT skills that I wasn’t aware I could actually obtain. NPower helped me realize that IT is the field that I belong in and gave me a newfound confidence in my abilities that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
DEONTA EARLY
Job in the Military: 91D Power Generation Equipment Repairer, 94H Test Measurement Diagnostic and Equipment Repairer.
I joined the Army after my sophomore year in college and an apprenticeship at BAE Systems. I went to Active Duty as a mechanic and later became more technical and transitioned into a Calibration Technician. I love the mental challenge of transitioning jobs and becoming more technical. Learning more about binary numbers and reading schematics and wiring diagrams became second nature. After a traumatic event while on active duty, I came across tech. I had no direction on where to start and needed to learn the fundamentals. I attended a job fair event and was given an information guide about NPower. Once I learned about the program everything else became easy, NPower gave me the tech structure and foundation as to what to expect and fundamental knowledge about tech. I also learned how broad tech is and that I could start in one field and end up in another. I thank NPower for giving me the necessary foundation I needed.
MIKE FLEMING
Before coming to NPower I was interested in the IT career path in high-school but my school offered little to no true IT training and I had no feeling of purpose or direction after leaving. I planned to go to college for a degree in computer science and IT but I wasn’t forced into immediate enrollment and thought that I should find some foundational information on IT. This led me to find NPower. NPower allowed me to truly get a clear vision of what a career path in the IT field can be like and the stepping stones and certifications needed to achieve it. With the passing of my ITF+ exam it made me grow higher confidence in my learning abilities and boosted my morale to the trade and I have the guidance of NPower to thank for this. Now I look forward to what is to come with this program and how my internship placement will turn out.
ROBERTO GABELLINI
Before NPower I was enrolled full time in community college pursuing an associate degree in Information Technology. I was looking for a program to help me gain experience and the skills to be able to get hired and work in the IT industry. NPower offered me just that, they offered the professional development and technical training to go out and work as IT professional with our ITF+ and Google Certifications. I am grateful to NPower Maryland and their team for giving me the opportunity to grow myself as an IT professional and an individual. I will use the skills, experience, and education provided by NPower to finish my associates and pursue a b achelor's degree and become the best IT professional I can be.
ARMONI GADDY
Before NPower I had recently graduated from Loyola New Orleans University with a Bachelor Degree in Music Industry Studies and working two jobs. I was introduced to this program from an Alumni Coordinator from my middle school. I was very curious about informational technology as I had taken a music tech class in college. It has been a very interesting journey through this program and I am still learning. I look forward to what the future holds!
TYREEK GRAHAM
Before NPower I was not too sure where I was going to continue my professional career. I previously worked in hospitality where the culture is pretty similar in professional aspects. I knew that this environment worked for me, however I knew for sure I wanted to work in tech. NPower has helped me in attaining my goals, such as furthering my ability to help others, assuring my technical skills, and shaping me to prosper no matter where I stand. I'm ready for the leap into the tech industry, and I can't wait to make an impact to change lives and improve the tech industry moving forward.
ROMAN HAWKINS
Prior to NPower, I was ending high school wanting to get a head start on my professional career in tech without jumping into a standard 4-year college. I didn't know what to do and didn't want my time to go to waste. NPower representatives came to my high school and I sat in during their presentation. I was blown away by the options they had to offer. I knew I could benefit by attending their program. NPower showed me the unwritten rules and guidelines of a professional position. I have learned valuable skills that I wouldn't have gotten elsewhere.
REBECCA HEDDINGER
Before NPower I was direction-less in my career. I had just left a terrible job and realized most of the skills I learned on that job were too industry specific to transfer. When I first found NPower, I thought they were too good to be true but I had to see for myself. The program is a lot of work but high reward. After NPower, I look forward to securing an internship or job where I can use my new skills.
MARY JENNINGS
Branch of Service: US Marine Corps (9 years)
Job in the Military: 3043 Supply Administration and Operations Specialist
8156 Marine Security Guard (US Embassies)
Decorations: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal
Volunteer Service Medal
I had spent several years as a Logistic Analyst and wanted a career change. I came across the NPower program, while reading the Veteran Affairs newsletter. I have always been interested in technology, and NPower offered that and so much more - how to be a professional, how to network, resume building. I look forward to combining my past work experience in the supply field, combined with my new knowledge about technology to advance my professional IT career. Great course, great network, and I thank NPower for jumpstarting my IT career.
BRANDY KINSHALA
Before joining NPower, I was pursuing a degree in cybersecurity. I thought I was ready to settle in to college, but my gut feeling confirmed I wasn’t ready. I needed a guidance, something that provided structure to be successful. By delving into the resources and materials that NPower provided and reflect on my journey, I was able to redirect my efforts to better prepare myself for success in the long run. This process and redirection has helped me to identify my strengths and weaknesses, and has enabled me to understand how to overcome my weaknesses and how to employ my strengths to continue to grow in my life and career.
JASON LAMB
Before NPower, I was recently let go from my job and was staying home to help take care of my grandmother and niece. Every morning I felt a little let down by my sudden lack of opportunity. That’s when my older brother told me to try out the NPower program, which he attended in the past. He talked about all he learned that had helped him gain his own career in the field of technology. The way they helped us learn in both the professional and technical skills has helped me immensely, even helping me push through challenges to get my certifications. I am extremely hopeful for the future; I've always been passionate about learning technology and Npower helped that passion blossom while helping me improve as a professional. I look forward to creating a new career in the ever-growing field of tech and I cannot wait to get more knowledge.
JOSIAH LYNCH
Before NPower, I was lost and didn’t know what I wanted to pursue as a career. As a person who considers myself as a jack of all trades, narrowing down my career path was not an easy task. NPower changed my love of technology from an interest of mine to the only choice for my career. The staff always pushed me to do my best no matter the walls I ran into. Without their guidance and support, I wouldn't have gotten the certifications I needed to start my career on the right path. Every day I have had the pleasure of walking this path with my also amazingly supportive classmates. Now that the program is completed, I look forward to gainful employment and having the continued support of the very people who helped me climb my first mountain.
MAURICE MARSHALL
Before starting NPower, I was working a fulltime retail position that I hated. I knew that retail wasn’t something I wanted to do forever so I started searching for training programs to help with my career change. I went to college before and wasn’t very successful so I knew that college just wouldn’t be a good move again yet. After a lot of research, I found NPower on Google with some positive reviews and applied. I learned a lot through NPower, this program gave me all the tools I needed to be successful. It’s a great program because it doesn’t just teach you about being a great IT professional, it also teaches you how to be a great employee and helps you land the perfect job.
SHAKANNAH MASON
Before I joined NPower , I had a hard time finding a stable job and finding a career to balance with my family life. One day when I was looking for jobs on Instagram Baltimore job profile, I came across NPower. When I read the post, I loved the fact that I could learn a new skill for free and have the opportunity for a job placement in the career that is in high demand. As a trainee in NPower I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge, technical and professional skills and self-awareness of my own potential. I am glad to say that I have dedicated my time and self to this program because I know it will lead me to be a great individual in the world of technology.
SHANIAH MASON
Before NPower I had recently dropped out of college due to lack of financial support. I was in school for simulation and game design, despite having to leave I knew I still wanted to be involved in technology. I heard about NPower from my sister that was in the program and wanted to offer me the free opportunity. Being in the NPower program allowed me the ability to attain my ITF+ certification along with 2 Google certificates of IT Support and Project Management. After graduation I plan to further my education with NPower by taking advance courses in Cloud Computing.
RYLANDS MATHIUEX
I was barely passing college classes required for my major before I joined NPower, and I didn’t know what to do with myself. When I learned about the program from a longtime friend of my sister who happened to be an alumnus, I realized this could be one of the best chances I have to get somewhere in life. I was grateful for the opportunity to be trained and gain certificates necessary to find a career in IT. It’s been a stimulating experience different than college where you work towards goals completely on your own, and it’s free.
DARIEN MITCHELL
Before NPower I as bouncing around with odd jobs working at fast food or retail and I realized what I wanted to do and how to do it. One day my aunt told me about NPower and I met Kyle and he told me about the opportunities I can accomplish while being in NPower. I always loved IT and watching my stepfather build computers from scratch it was interesting and I realized what I wanted to do. So now i got my opportunity and learned how to build a PC, troubleshoot problems, and seeing what an interview is really like. When I joined NPower, I loved it and everything they had to offer.
REBECCA MURILLO
Before NPower, I was uncertain of my future. I knew I wanted to help others in my next role. NPower provided inspiration and powerful knowledge and I developed a passion for technology. I became more confident, determined, and enlightened by the end of this journey. I plan to continue to provide the knowledge given to me to create better opportunities for those who need it most. Influencing others, the way my instructors guided me. I will demonstrate compassion and support given to me by the leaders at NPower. I am grateful to be given this opportunity and encourage others to do the same. I am blooming as the professional woman they saw in me. I give all my gratitude to NPower. Thank you!
JAHBARI NICKENS
Before starting NPower, I was working at a bowling alley, living day to day not really having a clear direction on where I was trying to go. My dream was always to go to college and get my degree in computer science but due to how expensive school was I could never afford to go. I learned about NPower through a friend and the more research I did on it, the more I saw that NPower could help lead me in the right direction when it came to where I envisioned myself to be. Through NPower I’ve gained perspective on what it would look like and feel like being in the tech field. I’m looking forward to taking the tech skills I learned and entering into the technology field.
OSELUMESE OKOJIE
Before starting NPower, I was working two jobs and full-time at school however I was looking for a career change. I got an email from NPower recruiters on LinkedIn and from there my career change started. I didn't want to graduate college and enter a career field that I didn't want to participate in for the rest of my life. I was applying to multiple jobs with my Cybersecurity certification and was not getting any responses. This program gave me an opportunity to make this change. This program has been a blessing, and everything was free! The only thing I had to do was “trust the process”. With my new skills and my IT Fundamentals (ITF+) certification, I look forward to launching my tech career and obtaining a full-time position after NPower. I'm very thankful for NPower and can't wait to obtain a new occupation.
MABEL PEREZ
Before starting NPower, I was looking for an opportunity to learn more about technology. After doing some research I came across NPower and decided to apply. Since then, I have learned about the fundamentals of hardware, networking, cloud, Windows, and security as well as troubleshooting response and customer service. I have successfully completed the Google IT fundamentals Certificate and continued to prepare for the CompTIA ITF+ exam. Between networking and learning how to perfect my elevator pitch, I believe NPower has provided me with the tools to be a successful IT professional. After this cohort, I plan to continue to pursue a career in Data analysis as a Business Analyst or Data Analyst.
XAVIER PEREZ
Before enrolling into the NPower program, I had very little technical experience. I primarily had a background in graphic design but wanted to further my understanding of technology as a whole. I joined NPower because I wanted to be a part of a growing community that makes tech more accessible to the general public. Throughout this program, I learned the basics of what makes up a computer, the systems in place in an operating system, the different types of programming languages etc. Along with technical training, NPower has also provided me with professional development training, which has taught me how to conduct myself during an interview, while also helping me to build my resume. I’m confident that the skills that the NPower organization has taught me will help me further my pursuit of a career in IT and any further certification I pursue in the future.
CHRISTINE ROBINSON
Before joining NPower, I had just found a new job but not something I was passionate about. I was working two jobs just to make money and still would be struggling if I didn’t have my parents' support. Due to the pandemic, my job had to shut down and I lost my spark for something I liked to do. It took a while for me to find another job, because I didn’t want to do something I would be unhappy with. I had always wanted to go back to school but I wanted to make sure it was something that would be right for me. When my cousin introduced me to the NPower program, I felt like this was a perfect opportunity for me, since I studied IT in high school. I felt like this was the sign to better myself and my career. With all the information, resources, and opportunities given in this program, this couldn’t have been a better experience. I appreciate the opportunity to be accepted in the program and given the chance to further my career. I definitely had a couple of reality checks throughout the program and they were very much needed. I pushed myself to do and learn things I didn’t have the confidence to do before. With all the new skills and certifications, I’ve been given the chance to learn. I look forward to deciding where I want to launch my new tech career and obtain a full-time position in the government or another tech company!
RENE RODRIGUEZ
Before starting NPower, I had floated and done many different jobs. I have worked in construction, customer service and sales. However, none of them really challenged me or kept me interested in the long-term. When I learned about NPower, I knew that this could be the chance to get into a field that I have always been interested in. Since joining the NPower program, I have successfully completed my CompTIA ITF+ certification as well as earned two certificates through Google. After graduation I hope to begin my IT journey with a Help Desk Position and continue pursuing more certifications. Thanks to NPower not only did I learn the fundamentals of Information Technology, but I also learned how to carry myself as a young professional.
MEY SANTOS
Born in Guatemala, I came to the United States in 2003 with my daughters. As a bilingual, military spouse since 2017, I have always adapted to changes as we have had to relocate often. But it has given me the opportunity to interact with diverse cultures. I worked in the dental field for about 12 years, before coming to NPower. Stating a new career in Information Technology has been challenging but rewarding. Having the NPower team’s expertise and plethora of resources has been key to my future success in my new career.
INDIA SMITH
Prior to NPower, I was working two jobs, but I knew that wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life. Between being financially unstable and feeling like I didn’t fit in with either of the work environment cultures, I knew something had to give. I was ready for a change, I just didn’t know where to start. I heard about NPower through my middle school guidance counselor. After some thorough research, I felt like this was the career change I needed. The help I received here helped me to gain new knowledge, skills, and experiences. The biggest impact this program has had in my life was helping me to believe in myself. With hard work and dedication, anything is possible. With the new skills and certifications I’ve obtained, I look forward to starting my career in the technology field. Next year I hope to continue my education with NPower and join the cybersecurity program. I am thankful for all that this program has to offer and for helping individuals like me have this opportunity.
KENDALL SMITH
After graduating high school in 2022, I knew I wanted to go to a four-year university. I was in the computer science track in high school, so I already had interest in computer science. I wanted to learn more about the day-to-day life of a professional in the tech field before committing to pursuing a degree in it. NPower offered a great technical education along with a professional development program. After attending NPower, I am confident that I will enjoy working in the tech field, and am prepared to study it further and work part time in the field as well.
MIKENZHIE SMITH
What brought me to NPower was a conversation starter of me wanting a pivot in life and an opportunity to expand my network to get out of my comfort zone to create an environment to increase my earning potential and show how dedicated I am to a task / project. I am appreciative of the connections and lesson plans throughout my journey at NPower. I gained knowledge and tools for my toolbox of a life. My next milestone I hope will be to encourage other to take that leap of faith and pivot in life. Your experience matters and can bridge you in many ways as long as you put your mind to it. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Computer Science all while being employed at large retail chain for 7 years
LUIS SORTO
Prior to NPower, I was a George Mason University student, trying to finish my degree in Information Technology. During my formative years, I struggled to communicate and relate with my peers. The internet and gaming allowed me to foster my own identity and interests and was the basis of my early interest in information technology. I had been accepted into George Mason University through their Early Identification Program but had a turbulent experience due to financial and mental health issues. Being a commuter and having to work through school, I had always struggled with professional development and networking, especially with people in my career field. This was more apparent due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, which made fostering a network more difficult. What brought me to NPower was my job search in the summer of 2022, I had been struggling to find a job in the post-COVID job market and did not have degree or any certifications, despite having a few years of hands-on IT experience. At NPower, I honed my technology skills and worked on my networking and professional development and built confidence in myself in the IT career field. I obtained my Google ITS and project management certificates and CompTIA ITF+ and A+ certifications. After graduation, I plan on getting my foot in the door and purse my career in IT. With my new skills and certifications, I believe that I have what it takes to foster a fulfilling career.
NAIMANI STALEY
My name is Naimani Staley. I am a former Girl Scout Gold & Silver Award recipient. My dedication and experience with Girl Scouts helped shape me to the person I am today. Prior to NPower I was working in the education field working with students with disabilities on the middle & high school level. Working in the education field requires a strong love, passion and dedication but as well as some technology-based skills. Most of our students were non-verbal and relied on communication devices to speak. I was introduced to NPower through a family member who thought I’d be a good fit for the program and the technology field as a whole. I was able to accomplish basic technology fundamental skills, improve my problem-solving abilities and work collaboratively in project-based settings. With my new skills I plan to seek a position as a help desk analyst to be exposed to multiple different scenarios that I could encounter while using technology.
TIM STANFORD
Before starting NPower, I was just let go from my job in construction management. At that point I felt that I was ready for a career change, but I didn’t know what to pursue. I started doing research and came across the NPower program. The program provided the guidance in the classroom and for the workplace that I think was lacking in many other programs. You can tell the staff really wants to see you succeed. Thanks NPower!
MULAI STEWART
Before starting NPower I had a bit of computer experience and had begun my job application attempts. However, I did not get that far and had constant rejections. On top of this I did not have any certifications which did not help me. I had lots of CTF knowledge and grounding in cybersecurity experience but not much else. NPower seemed like a bridge for me and making corporate connections.
YESENIA TOLENTINO
Before starting NPower, I had a career that wasn’t allowing me to be grow and wasn’t challenging me. I wanted to go back to school, but with being a single mom of two girls and working I wasn’t sure how I would be able to manage everything. My sister graduated from NPower and her experience was great and that motivated me to apply. My experience has been phenomenal, the instructors have been very helpful in how they break everything down. This opportunity has definitely been one in a lifetime. I’m so thankful that NPower took a chance on me and I vow to make them proud.
SHINIYA WASHINGTON
Prior to NPower, I just received my bachelor’s degree in information science and systems. By the time I received my degree, I was discouraged and my passion for technology had diminished. I told myself I wanted to find my passion again and that I wanted to find a program that would help me spark that passion again and also provide a better way of teaching the necessary material in a way that would help me gain a better understanding. NPower gave me just that! Everyone was very helpful and open to help without any judgement and now I honestly believe I’m ready to FINALLY put myself out there and stop being afraid.
MARK WRIGHT
Before NPower, I was in college pursuing a nursing major that I couldn’t keep up with when the pandemic hit and eventually dropped out. I decided to focus on work instead of school for a few months before eventually going into the U.S. Navy. What brought me to NPower was getting separated from the U.S. Navy after 6 weeks of being in boot camp. Since I was doing IT for the U.S. Navy, I decided to continue a career in tech outside of the military. My time at NPower gave me the opportunity to accomplish getting a certification in CompTIA+ and Project Management cerfiticate with Google, along with solid fundamental concepts in the basics of computers. After graduation I plan to work with Google or Apple in a tech support role. I also want to venture out into different opportunities that tech offers me in government contracts through cybersecurity.

We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase in the U.S. to 13 million by 2025, according to a recent Microsoft Data Science report that estimates that digital job capacity. Our graduates of over 4,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 2000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees. NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities. Part of this goal is our ‘40 by 22’ initiative, which aims to advance more young women of color in tech careers. This initiative is supported by the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.
