Before NPower, I had graduated college with a degree in health science and was looking for a career change. Friends who graduated with me were receiving high-paying job offers with IT degrees or some type of computer science background. I was always tech-savvy and had an ongoing interest in the technology industry. What brought me to NPower was the need to act on this interest. I gained knowledge about the IT industry and developed some innovative ideas as a creative director. I wish to combine my health science background with my skills as an IT professional to become a health informatics specialist. My next goal is to work with EMRs (electric medical record systems) and develop innovative ideas!

Before joining NPower, I was working at Starbucks, which I dreaded because it had nothing to do with IT. I wanted to work in a place where I could learn more about IT and gain more skills. After job searching on Indeed.com, I found NPower. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to gain skills, knowledge, and certifications to make me more marketable.

I was able to land a part-time job with Towson University working in an IT support role. The skills and knowledge that I gained from NPower have tremendously helped me in the role and have made me more promotable to manager. After graduating from Towson University, I hope to look for a full-time IT job!

Before NPower, I was attending community college full-time to get my associate’s degree in computer engineering technology. Even though I was doing well academically, I didn’t feel prepared to work in IT without hands-on experience. I joined NPower because it seemed like a great opportunity to gain experience. I wasn’t that excited about being there since I thought it would be like college, with lessons, quizzes, and nothing else. I was so wrong! With the professional development, certification preparations, lessons, and lab assignments, I gained more knowledge and skills than I ever thought would. I feel confident in my abilities and prepared to continue my IT career.

Back in high school, I discovered my passion for technology and software, such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. After graduation, I explored construction work with my father and cousin and realized I did not want to do that job for the rest of my life. I had begun the process of enrolling in community college, but unfortunately, my FAFSA application didn’t go through. Then a friend told me about an IT training program that he was going to attend, and asked him if he could help me get in or help me talk to the recruiter. To my surprise, I was able to have an interview with the recruiter; a month later I began my IT training at NPower. Thanks to NPower, I have skills and knowledge to continue my IT career!

Prior to NPower, I worked for Geico as an insurance agent for a year and wanted escape the toxicity of selling policies. I always wanted to pursue IT, so I took a leap of faith. I was so close to not applying to this program, but something told me to fill out the application. When I tell you this program is a blessing, it truly is. Not only does it help you get the skills to succeed, it also gives you resources and certifications to successfully start your IT career. If you have any doubts, it's ok. With anything new, there will always be doubts, but it's up to you to push past those doubts and achieve success. Remember:

I joined the Army at the height of the Iraqi war as a transportation specialist, so jumping into the fire is something that I do. Running away from a problem is something I can’t do; my legs start moving, and I’m off. Covid was yet another obstacle, one that I couldn’t physically get a hold on. A divorce, a life-altering back injury that was eating away at me mentally and physically, took a toll. Around every corner life was hitting me with a bank bag full of nickels. I found NPower through a VA assistance program, and it was the silver lining that I needed! I could tell that NPower could help someone who looked like me break into this world that was beyond my knowledge and skill set! Now I am in an apprenticeship, on my way to making a way for my family and rebuilding my self-confidence!

Before NPower, I was confused about what to do with my life. I worked for Bed Bath and Beyond as a cashier and knew I couldn’t do that forever. I needed something more stable since it would be my last year in college. I needed to be more independent, which led me to search online for tech internships and jobs because of my passion for technology, and that’s when I found NPower. NPower offered free technology education and professional support. It was exactly what I needed! My instructors supported me throughout, making sure I succeeded. I learned to never give up, even when things got hard or did not go my way. I pushed through everything and trusted the process. I could not thank NPower enough for giving me this opportunity!

Before starting NPower, I had just finished a semester of college study and wanted to enroll in classes I would need to finish my degree. However, I got a notification that my financial aid was running out, and would have to take out loans. Because I didn’t want to do that, I worked for a few months to earn money, then found NPower through a Google search. I considered other programs but chose NPower because of the internship, networking, and professional development benefits. The best part is that it was 100% remote, which worked perfectly. I completed the Google ITF+ course, which gave me insights into working in tech. I obtained my CompTIA ITF+ certificate and will get more. I hope to apply my new skills and connections as I advance in my career.

Prior to joining NPower, I served in the Air Force for 11 years as a respiratory therapist. I used ventilators and ABG/VBG machines and performed troubleshooting and calibrations. I also used the hospital’s computer server to document patients’ information. I became interested in IT but didn’t know where to start. After leaving the military, I enrolled in a graduate program and received a master's degree in cybersecurity but didn’t get hands-on experience to work in IT. I am so grateful I found this amazing program that taught me not only the basics of computers, but also helped me pass the CompTIA IT Fundamentals exam. I hope there will be more veterans benefiting from this amazing program designed for young adults, veterans, and military spouses. Thank you, NPower, for jumpstarting my IT career!

Prior to NPower, I completed university. Unfortunately, I lost my mother, and it took a toll. I couldn’t find a job and found myself looking for answers and trying to figure out life. When I learned about NPower, I was apprehensive, but I jumped in, as I needed something to help get my career off the ground. I can be stubborn, and did not expect much from NPower, but as soon as I began learning, I realized that it was beneficial. I sit with Google IT Support Professional and CompTIA ITF+ certificates. NPower ended up being the perfect opportunity to get off my feet; I am very grateful.

Prior to NPower, I was working a part-time job at a restaurant. I’ve always had a passion for technology, including video games , computer software and hardware, and music technology.

I was introduced to NPower by my mom’s co-workers who graduated from the program and got a placement at her company. I was looking for a way to get my foot in the door in IT. NPower gave me more of an understanding of IT and how to fill out tickets for customer service. I received my Google IT Support certificate. Before starting NPower, was unemployed, unable to build a career as I followed my spouse around the country. He was stationed every three years at a new base. When we relocated to Virginia, finally had the chance to focus on my career. I discovered NPower at a job fair. I was glad that military spouses were included, since my employment opportunities have been limited due to family responsibilities. I have always been interested in getting into technology but didn’t know how, until NPower gave me the opportunity for hands-on learning. Before starting NPower, I wasn’t working sine I was recovering from surgery. I left school because I was wasting money and time when I knew what I wanted to do, and that was work in IT. Once I decided to start my tech journey, two programs I'm in introduced me to NPower. I decided to join to get a leg up in my career and learn as much as possible about IT. NPower helped me in my professionalism. With my new skills and Google IT Support certificate, there is no obstacle I can't overcome! I can achieve anything I want in IT and am forever grateful to NPower!

I started my career as a U.S. Coast Guard Academy cadet. I am currently a federal employee. I was concerned about career stagnation and searched for opportunities to learn new skills to add value to my experience.

I discovered the NPower program for veterans and was able to attend classes while balancing full-time work and family obligations. After acquiring a number of skills and certifications, I am ready to move forward in my career. The experience I had with NPower will open a multitude of opportunities with the federal government as well as with contractors.

Prior to NPower, I was a college student majoring in computer science. During Covid, I returned to the workforce to save for school and transportation, as well as assist around the house and learn various professional skills. The skills I ended up gaining were customer service, multi-tasking, organization, management, dedication, and agility. I was unable to acquire a job or much experience in computer science until I found NPower. At NPower was able to explore tech fundamentals and Google IT Support, which expanded the knowledge I had gained in high school and college.

Before NPower I was at a road block, struggling with my resume and interviewing. I have a technical background so that was not a challenge. A challenge throughout the course was testtaking skills — never been my strong suit! NPower helped me get through my first certifications, and I hope for new internships and job opportunities. look forward to continuing my IT career, starting in the help desk field and moving towards other areas.

Prior to NPower, I was skeptical about my nursing career. As a military spouse, sustaining a career is challenging due to the multiple moves. However, after watching an ACT NOW Education webinar featuring NPower, I realized this was a fantastic opportunity to find my way back to the workforce and jumpstart my IT career. It has not only been beneficial professionally but also personally. In addition to preparing and completing my Google IT Support and CompTIA IT Fundamentals certifications, I gained confidence. I also got LinkedIn networking opportunities and I revamped my resume. I am studying for the CompTIA A+ certification and completing the Google Project Management one. I was able to connect with like-minded individuals within my cohort. I look forward to securing a remote IT position. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity as I continue to pursue my career aspirations, and I look forward to giving back to NPower!

Prior to NPower, I was an Army National Guard vet who just left university after studying sports management. I had traffic incidents that caused me debt and the loss of my license, so I was forced to take manual labor jobs to climb out of the financial hole. I had some low points and work-related injuries that made me consider a change. I knew I’d need assistance getting in the door of the professional field, so I reached out to a resource for veterans. I learned that my military background and tech knowledge would help me get into NPower. I didn’t know what to expect; I left my job knowing this was my opportunity for stability. I’ve learned to network and attained tech skills and knowledge through lectures and study material. I hope to get an entry-level job. I’m happy I’ve made these connections and gained life skills!

I joined the military immediately after high school. Although this was never a dream, I’m grateful that I did it. The time I spent traveling and touring prepared me for life’s challenges. It made me a well-organized, disciplined, mentally strong individual. I received two honorary medals for exemplary service. I later obtained multiple certifications and degrees for my career shift into healthcare. I worked in healthcare for 20 years. I wanted to make a career shift and decided to embrace my technical side. I got a BS in computer networking and cybersecurity and searched for internships, apprenticeships, and employment. The pandemic and the lack of tech experience made it difficult to land an interview. It wasn’t until I found NPower through a recruiter that things changed. The staff were 100% vested in my success, encouraging me to continue to set goals. I obtained two more certifications, secured an apprenticeship with Tessco Technologies, and am currently working on another certification.

Before NPower, I was working at Family Dollar to provide for me and my daughter. I was looking for a career change to better my future when I found NPower. It has been so much more than that! I have become a part of the IT family with interesting career options that I never even knew existed. I look forward to graduating and receiving my certifications so that I can become part of a wonderful team. would love to become a software engineer or even create my own operating system. As I push hard to pursue my dreams and goals, I am excited that this wonderful opportunity came my way!

Before I started NPower, I was working a remote job that was seasonal. I needed something that could turn into a career. I stumbled across NPower on a website and was so excited! The help I received from the instructors, along with the knowledge obtained from tests, quizzes, and labs, made me confident. Also, being able to work through my emotions and get assistance with overcoming obstacles via social support was beneficial. I was able to attain a Google certification. When you are passionate about something, you know your purpose in life. Everything is powered by technology, which benefits people like me, who not only love technology, but also want to make a career of it. When I found NPower, I knew it would help me fulfill my aspirations and pursue a tech career. NPower gave me the technical, professional, and career skills needed to succeed. I truly appreciate the chance to flip the switch and get back to being a flourishing member of our society. I landed an apprenticeship at Tessco Technologies. I will continue the selfless traditions embedded in me by the NPower community. I see myself evolving not only as a professional, but also as a human, spiritual being.

NPower came to me completely by accident. I was looking for apprenticeships on a government site and, although I was not too interested in tech, I thought it wouldn't hurt to apply. Due to the pandemic, I was laid off and had time to learn a new skill. I decided to take the self-study route and when that did not pan out, reached out and they welcomed me back! This program changed my life and gave me a sense of direction. I dropped out of college for financial reasons and after a decade in the restaurant industry, never did I see myself building a career in a field that I find so stimulating. The skills I gained will propel me into a new world of possibilities. I will forever be in debt to NPower. If you don’t think you can do it, YOU CAN with NPower!

Before NPower, most of my work was in customer service; at the same time, also enjoy working with computers and technology. What brought me to NPower was an email sent by our neighborhood community leader. NPower strengthened my technology skills as I learned about computer languages, interview skills, and time management. The speakers from different companies were informative. NPower gave me the skills to achieve my Google IT support certification. I plan to get a full-time job in the IT field and work on my ITF plus and A+ certifications.

Before starting NPower, I graduated with a degree in technology, but I wanted more training and certifications. Through the power of networking, I found out about NPower. It offered everything I needed straight out of college that I did not receive during college. With the career and internship placement, it was the perfect place for me!

I was referred to NPower through Hiring Our Heroes. I found the program during a time when I had decided to transition into the IT industry. The opportunity to earn certifications was important to my career growth, because these would follow me no matter where we were stationed. NPower has not only helped me gain knowledge of IT, it has also given me some career stability.

Prior to NPower, I always had a thing for technology. I had dipped my fingers in the field with a few summer jobs and was even attending college to get a degree in computer science thinking it would be the next step in getting ahead. But after school fell through, became listless until a colleague gave me a tip about NPower. Besides the obvious benefit of more training in the technological field, this program offered great opportunities for networking, internships, and insight on the ins and outs of the IT field. With all that I’ve gained, I intend to surge forward and expand my repertoire even more!

Prior to NPower, I worked in the rail transportation system in Washington, DC for 30+ years. After retired, I wanted to start a new career in IT. As a veteran, I was eligible to join Power IT Program for FREE. This journey was no walk in the park. After 16 weeks of virtual learning, I was equipped with the basic knowledge and skills to take my CompTIA ITF+ and A+ Certification tests. I was trained not only in IT but also in how to write a resume, create a LinkedIn profile, and prepare for an interview. These skills helped me get a full-time job at MGM. This program is perfect for ANYONE who is willing to do the WORK and put forth the effort in reaching their goals. To all at NPower, thank you!

Before finding NPower, I was in college and working part-time. It was stressful; I really couldn’t afford the funds for college. I had a passion for technology since childhood. My mom lost her job as everything went downhill.

I was at my lowest moment when a friend at church told me about NPower. I heard amazing testimonies from people getting better job opportunities and preparing for the new world. I decided to join so I could reach my goals. All the skills I learned and peers I met made it well worth it. Getting my IT Fundamentals and Google IT certifications is a huge blessing, at no cost. I am forever grateful and can’t wait to take these skills and apply them throughout my career. I will start a full-time IT position after completing this amazing internship at NPower.

Before NPower I was working with DoorDash. I always wanted to further my education but was unable to do so due to financial hardship. I had a strong desire to learn more about technology, which led me to NPower. NPower inspired me to challenge myself and never give up. I am so appreciative! I obtained my CompTIA A+ certification, and I have gained so much knowledge and made genuine friendships. The staff always did their best to support me. I would like to work in an innovative environment, which should be easy in the tech industry. I look forward to continuing to develop my knowledge and understanding of IT!

Prior to NPower, I was attending college full-time for my associate’s degree in computer engineering. I was doing well in my classes but deep inside I was not ready to enter the IT field. My friend told me that he signed up for IT training at NPower; we both signed up and were admitted. We thought the program would have boring lectures just like college, but it was the opposite. The classes were fun, yet educational and very interactive, keeping me on the edge of my chair. They also have professional development, a chance to obtain certifications, lab assignments, and much more. Thanks to NPower, I have the knowledge, experience, and confidence to enter the IT field!

Before NPower, I was working part-time jobs and had become a parent. I knew there was a place in the tech industry for me. I started off fixing cellular devices and then joined workforce development programs to help with my tech experience. I managed to still achieve graduation while being kicked out; my dog died right before I joined my second class. Then, after my second graduation, Covid hit, and I missed out on a job opportunity. I was unhappy with the lack of self-study during quarantine. I knew NPower was the route for me. I sharpened my tech skills, received knowledge on the ITF+ certification, and am now Google Support-certified via Coursera. I am thankful for NPower for not only providing opportunities, but also for helping boost my confidence. I was borderline counting myself out of the tech field. I’m glad I was able to take this step in my career.

I am a high school graduate now studying robotics engineering and machine coding. I joined NPower to strengthen my skills. They helped me understand and learn more about technology and improve my work ethic. I learned the values necessary in a good employee and have added more skills, such as database management.

WE ARE THE FUTURE OF WORK

Through partner and tech industry collaboration, our free training model is a workforce development solution for the future. In today’s economy, over 50% of all jobs require some degree of technology and digital skill. We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase in the U.S. to 13 million by 2025, according to a recent Microsoft Data Science report that estimates that digital job capacity. Our graduates of over 4,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 2000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees.

NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities.

Part of this goal is our ‘40 by 22’ initiative, which aims to advance more young women of color in tech careers. This initiative is supported by the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.

LAUNCHING TECH CAREERS. TRANSFORMING LIVES.

NPower’s model is a solution to building a diverse tech pipeline. Our graduates launch tech jobs with an average starting salary of $41,000–$60,000 and are positioned to advance their career path, enabling them to earn more than their peers in lower-wage jobs. Higher earning potential is the key to breaking generational cycles of poverty, positioning our students and their families to achieve long-term economic success.
