Before starting NPower, I was unable to secure a job in my field of study. was about to graduate from college, and I was not getting any calls back from employers. I was scrolling throughIindeed.com and I came across NPower. After doing much research and seeing the positive role NPower played in helping young men and women secure their future, I decided to apply. My experience at NPower was a memorable one. First, got to learn more about various computer systems during my classes. My instructor went above and beyond in making sure that all topics were clearly understood. Secondly, I got to learn more about how to present myself in a professional manner during the professional development sessions. Finally, I got to meet and build lasting relationships with awesome members of the staff and trainees. As an early leaper, I held a contract role in data reporting and quality assurance, and I now work as a Finance Analyst for a fortune 500 company. I am very grateful to NPower for my skills development so I can obtain opportunities like these.
When the pandemic started, I watched as lots of people lost jobs and as certain job fields became less viable. At the time I was a part time college student and freelance home improvement specialist. Both my career path and my job became unviable as curfews were implemented and the world went virtual. As I have always been good with technology and my background has many transferable skills, I started looking for a way into the IT field. A few friends recommended NPower and while researching it I discovered that it was everything I was looking for. During my time at NPower, I have learned a lot and have been exposed to opportunities I did not know existed. NPower has provided free technical training, certifications, professional development, opportunities to meet and network with professionals already in the field, mentors, and more. I thank NPower for everything and look forward to combining my past experience with my new knowledge to start my career in IT.
Before I joined NPower I was working on demand jobs like Uber, Lyft, Instacart, etc. found out about NPower from a friend of mine and decided it was a great opportunity to learn skills that could lead to a better career. From the tech fundamentals program, I learned technology concepts such as Wi-Fi, databasing, and about computer hardware. I was able to obtain multiple certifications thanks in large part to the training and knowledge I gained from NPower. After graduation I plan to seek an IT related position with a strong company/organization and to further my education by studying cybersecurity.

Technician, Human Resource Professional
I entered the Air Force in February of 2001, as an Armament Systems Technician working for the F-15 Fighter Aircraft Armament Systems; after working the flightline for six years, I became a Human Resource professional for the Air Force. After 21 years of military service to the nation, I decided to retire and begin my IT journey through the Department of Defense Skillbridge (Internship) program. I heard of NPower through social media and was immediately attracted by their community core values, help to veterans, and help to veteran spouses. My time at NPower not only gave me the knowledge and skill to become proficient at acquiring industry certifications, but also provided me professional development that allowed me to transition into an IT career. The training provided by the NPower Staff gave me the opportunity to obtain employment as a government contractor focusing on providing IT solutions for the Navy and Marine Corps.

Prior to NPower, I didn't have a whole lot of options in front of me. I knew a career in IT was what I wanted, but as someone who only had a high school diploma, I didn't even know where to begin looking. It wasn't until a period of searching for job after job that I had finally come across NPower through Indeed. After being accepted into the Tech Fundamentals program, I've learned so many new skills in addition to the ones I already had. Through the daily classes I obtained experience in virtual environments that have made me prepared for a variety of IT roles, and through the professional development portion of the program I've acquired the knowledge and skills on how to excel as a professional. I am very grateful to NPower for this rare opportunity, and I look forward to a successful career in information technology after the program.
Prior to NPower, my passion for technology has always been prevalent throughout my adolescent years transforming into my adult years. But I wasn’t quite sure on how to translate that into a career. NPower has played a pivotal role in that transition to my technical, professional, and career development. Learning different techniques on how to express and prepare myself in a professional manner, and technical skill development in IT has been really helpful in my growth within the NPower program. Gaining multiple entry level certifications throughout the program is a tremendous starting point for anybody who is a novice to the technical world or anyone who is quite familiar with technology but needs that additional support, NPower is the place for you. I would like to thank NPower for giving me the opportunity to better myself and creating a promising career!
Before coming to NPower I was working as an IT Help Desk Analyst for the State of Maryland Department of Human Services. It has been tough growing up in South Baltimore and had to become a man at a young age. Although I’ve been with multiple companies working as helpdesk support, I wanted more. From 2017 to now I have been on a tech journey. I dream of being in cybersecurity, helping with securing the cloud and much more. I am still finding my true niche in cyber, but have faith that I will find it and I will flourish in it. After NPower I look forward to continuing to build my credentials in cyber and hopefully, I can be accepted into the NPower’s cybersecurity and cloud computing program. I want to keep building myself to be the best man possible for my son and for my family. I also look forward to motivating the ones after me to let them know it’s not where you come from its where you’re going, to keep pushing, keep fighting, and keep having faith that everything is going to work out for you no matter what.

I joined the Marine right out of high school, I served from February 89 until August 09 as a Machinist. After military I then went and worked a military contractor oversees working with various companies such Science Application International Corporation, Oshkosh and. I then became a federal employ for the Army Corp of Engineers, Defense Logistics Agency, Government Printing Office and the Treasury Department (Bureau of Engraving and Printing). I have always had an interest in computers and then an old Military buddy introduced me to NPower, and that when I decided to do a career change. Since starting the program Lloyd and Shannon have made my learning experience fun and challenging and it been great working with them these past few months. I am very thankful to them and the rest of the staff as I embark upon my newfound career. Thanks NPower!
Before I started at Npower I was working in a restaurant as a Cashier trying to decide my next move. Luckly I already had a LinkedIn account and at that time I started becoming more active on it, and that’s when I noticed I got a message from the NPower team that offered free Technology training. At first, I was skeptical but later realized it was a great program. I was able to get CompTIA ITF+ certified, Google IT Support certified and Project Management certified. Npower has helped me to believe that I can make the career change I needed to progress in to a life I will one day have. For now, I would like to start off with a regular entry level tech job.

Prior to NPower, I served in the U.S. Army as a Cannon Crewman. During my service I received multiple Army achievement and accommodation awards. After my service I found myself just working jobs. It wasn’t until my current job at Veteran Affairs that I used a computer every day. I was learning how to maneuver my way around a computer and was even helping my co-workers. One day my co-worker gave me NPower’s information, and I jumped at the opportunity. My time with NPower gave me a wealth of knowledge. I’m graduating with my CompTIA ITF+, and my Google Helpdesk certifications. After graduation, my plans are to continue growing my skill set and eventually get into creating my own software.
My journey to NPower was a long one. I found out about NPower from a friend at a social gathering that I didn’t plan on attending, however I was at the right place at the right time. NPower was the best decision I could’ve ever made. I accumulated a lot of knowledge in a short period of time. I learned the basics of hardware, software, databases, active directory, command prompts, troubleshooting, networking, protocols, and IP addressing. Thanks to NPower, I feel that I'm ready to break in the IT industry. After graduation, I hope to find a long-lasting, lucrative, and fun career in the IT field.
Before starting NPower I was struggling to find a career, going job from job. I’ve always loved tech due to my immediate family being in the tech field all of their lives. I had a hard time making ends meet so I knew college wasn’t an option for me. My close friend Bryan and I went weeks talking about what we wanted to do in life to achieve our goals and how the IT field could do that, one day he came to me with an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down and that opportunity was NPower. After reading the description about what NPower does it was no turning back from there. We told ourselves that we would work together and push each other to complete the program. Since joining I’ve gained a handful out tech skills and well as professional skills thanks to Professional Development. My plans after NPower is to continue my education and obtain a job In the tech field. I would like to thank Lloyd and Shannon for helping us achieve 3 certifications.

Before NPower recently graduated during the beggining of the Covid 19 pandemic. One day I'm having the best school year of my life. The next dayI'im wondering if I'm gonna graduate. Needless to say the virtual classes were disorganized. Because of that I was allowed to graduate. We literally just walked up to our school and because of Covid restrictions had to stand wait for office staff to hand us diplomas in an envelope. I got accepted into an esteemed university but the pandemic threw it out of wack and that opportunity fell short. The world stood still for about a year and some change. I was taking virtual college courses. I was working as part time associate at “Uncle Jeff's” warehouse you might know him as Jeff Bezos chief executive of Amazon. Then my sister told me about NPower she knew that was interested in technology. The thing that made give NPower a shot was the intentional teaching they also connect you with employers, internships they help you every step of the way. I plan on being a sys admin thanks to NPower.
TechnicianBefore NPower I knew I wanted to get into IT but I didn’t know where to start. I enrolled in a community college a week before I found out about NPower to earn a degree in Cybersecurity. I always have a drive to chase whatever goal I make no matter what, but when I started NPower and finally took my first exam for the CompTIA ITF+ certification and passed, It made it clear for me that I was capable of anything and motivated me even more to keep going. Before NPower I didn’t have a path to follow. Six months later I developed great IT knowledge to help me succeed and professional skills that allows me to land any job I want and made communicating easier. By the end of the program, I was able to land a job and I still have upcoming interviews with bigger opportunities! Also got into an internship in the evenings to help me gain experience and new skills to be an system engineer/ system administrator. Without the foundation NPower gave me these last 6 months to grow I don’t think I would be here right now so I have to give credit!
Prior to NPower, I was a recent graduate of Stevenson University with a degree in Computer Information Systems. Since I graduated during the pandemic and had novice-level work experience, I struggled to find employment in the IT field, so I began working at Amazon full-time. I stumbled across NPower while looking for IT positions on Indeed and found they were offering just what I needed. With NPower, I was able to gain more IT experience, acquire industry recognized certifications, while simultaneously honing the skills that I already learned while in school. The part that I found most helpful was the Professional Development training. Professional Development has done wonders for me by providing interview, resume, and LinkedIn tips that have drastically improved my job prospects. Thanks to NPower, I am a much more well-rounded IT professional and looking forward to finally launching my tech career.

I fell in love with technology at a very young age, but I didn’t think that there would be career opportunities for me in the future.
As I grew older, my passion grew with me which eventually led me to seeking opportunities. Before NPower, had no technical knowledge and had no idea how to break into the industry. Through my experience in my cohort, I was able to gain incredible insight from my instructors as well as build an expansive network with my peers and mentors I’ve met along the way. Not to mention, I was able to secure a budding career in helpdesk at an amazing company that I can foresee a great future with. I look forward to learning more as I get on-thejob experience. thank NPower for my growth.
Before I joined NPower, I was working as a certified pharmacy technician at Walmart for the past 2 years while pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland Global Campus. I read about NPower while job searching on Indeed. At first, I was skeptical because it was a free program. After doing further research I realized that joining NPower would be a great opportunity to improve my technical and interviewing skills. While being in this cohort I had the opportunity to learn valuable lessons from my technical instructors Shannon and Lloyd. One of the most important lessons that stuck out to me is that it’s okay to not know everything. I believe that this program was designed to help us prepare for the next chapter of our life. The program may have seemed intense, but this was only done for our own good. After obtaining my technical certifications and graduating from NPower, I plan on starting an internship or an apprenticeship in the IT field. I am applying entrylevel positions that will help me begin my IT career. My future goal is to become an analyst or a systems administrator.
I am very grateful for the NPower program and happy to have been told about it. I have tried many different avenues to start my career before NPower. I tried college, the military, and even trade school but had no success. I am currently working as a Food Service Worker for Burger King on Andrews Air Force Base. The reason why I joined the program was because of a friend who completed the program. He had told me about it a few times which eventually lead me to be interested in the program and want to join. As much as I used different forms of technology from laptops to pc, and even gaming systems I knew very little about them. I joined the program with very little to no knowledge about computers and IT work. Throughout the program, I learned the basics of hardware and the different components that make up a computer. I also learned database and command prompt commands and so much more. After NPower my goal is to get an entry-level IT job. I am in the process of interviewing for a few jobs. I look forward to taking the next step in my life and starting a career in the IT field.

I found NPower through an online search one day, and I decided to apply that same day because knew that NPower would provide me the tools to become successful. I am so grateful that this program was free, and the class was virtual because it allowed me to continue working while pursuing my dreams. All I had to was to put in the work. I am happy to use my new skills and knowledge that I gained from Google IT Support, Google Project Management, and CompTIA IT Fundamentals in my internship at MISI. After graduated from college, I joined NPower to gain a strong fundamental knowledge about the world of Information Technology. I wanted to build a rewarding career. NPower provided the necessary tools, knowledge, and experience to succeed in the IT field and life. I look forward to obtaining my Network+ certification. I am confident in my ability as an IT professional. I thank NPower for jump-starting my career!

Prior to NPower, I was working in the health field during the pandemic and was ready to make a career transition. I was introduced to NPower by my brother who is also in the tech field. Joining NPower was a great opportunity for me as a firstgeneration student. During my time at NPower I was able to prepare for a career in tech by increasing my skill set and knowledge in IT. I learned concepts such as various ways to solve technical issues. After graduating from NPower, I plan on pursuing a career in Information Technology.

Before NPower, I was looking for a program that would help me learn a new skill and start a career. I learned about NPower online and then went to a resource fair to learn more about the program. After interviewing and getting accepted into the program, I was excited to start learning. During the program, I was challenged to understand complex concepts and manage my time wisely. I also learned to network and communicate more professionally. My time at NPower gave me the confidence to speak about my knowledge and continue to learn more. I received certificates in CompTIA ITF+, Google IT Support, and more. With my new skills, I will start my first IT position and continue to grow my knowledge.
Before starting NPower, I was a new college graduate. I was not sure what I wanted to do or accomplish. However, I knew that I wanted to become successful. I realized that I wanted a career in the IT industry. I was looking for programs that would help me learn IT fundamentals. A family friend recommended that start the IT Tech Fundamentals program at NPower. This program helped me learn the basics of IT. It also helped me get my first IT job. Also, I’ve learned much more about what I want to do in IT. I will be pursuing a career in cybersecurity. Therefore, I will be studying for my security + and network+ exams.
Before NPower I had worked at the Alexandria Health Department as an Administrative assistant. The reason why I decided to join NPower was because I felt like it was time to have a career change and transition into IT. I have learned so much in this tech fundamentals program and one of them being the basics of computing and how to troubleshoot. After I graduate from NPower I hope to obtain an entry level position within IT and eventually transition into Cloud computing.

DIRECT HIRE Computer SharePrior to NPower, wasn't sure whether I was capable of the accomplishments I've made this year. I always had a passion for technology but wasn’t sure if I could turn that passion into a career. NPower has played a pivotal role in my life that could not have been filled by any other organization. I have grown into someone who can accomplish anything I put my mind to. Professional development days allowed me to see first hand where skill, hard work, and dedication can lead. NPower provided the necessary tools, knowledge, and experience to succeed in the IT field and life. Thanks to NPower I was able to follow my dream without having to go in debt for it. now know that the key to my success has a lot to do with character, confidence, and the will to succeed. I look forward to obtaining additional certifications. I would like to thank the NPower Maryland staff for this wonderful opportunity to better myself as an individual and become the IT specialist many companies will learn to depend on.
Before starting NPower, I was a server and struggling to balance college courses and working full-time, and stuck in the food industry. I had changed my major to Information Technology last year and was looking for internship opportunities. When I found NPower, it seemed too good to be true. They teach you all of the technical knowledge you need to pass your certifications and all of the professional knowledge you need to crush your interviews. I feel much more prepared being CompTIA ITF+ certified and professionally prepped to succeed in any role.
Prior to NPower, I was looking for work with my degree in my last semester of school. While looking for work and internships, I came across NPower and it struck my interest. I decided to apply to put myself in a good position for work as soon as I graduated. From the networking, the internship, the mentorship, and even the certification training, this program has been quite the opportunity. I learned a lot of real word applications with my new skills and my IT Fundamentals (ITF+) certification, Google System Support and Google Project Management Certification. I look forward to launching my tech career and I couldn’t have done it without NPower.

MILLERSVILLE, MDBefore starting NPower, I had just lost my first long-term employment after my service in the Navy. The VA introduced me to NPower through a newsletter. I decided to enter the program to make a career move into a role that has more plentiful jobs available. I’m looking forward to launching my tech career and obtaining a full-time position utilizing the new skills and certifications, such as CompTIA ITF+.
Before NPower, I was working a job I didn’t like and I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my future. I knew I wanted to do something different but I lacked the motivation to make it happen. I was introduced to NPower by my cousin who had completed the program. When I joined the program my main focus was gaining the technical skills needed to be successful in a tech career. With the time, dedication, and support from peers, I have received my Google IT support and CompTIA ITF+ certifications. After graduation, I plan to put my new skills into action and becoming a valued member to a great company.
Before joining NPower, I was working at a dental office as a receptionist while being enrolled in community college obtaining a degree in Sonography Radiology. I was a new mom trying to find my path in life. I didn’t have a passion for sonography or being a receptionist, but I did what needed to be done to provide the best care for my daughter. As the weeks went on it got harder to find time to study so I decided to take a year off from school. During that time, I struggled mentally. felt like a failure, I felt like I let my family down. One day I was speaking to my friend, and I expressed to her my concerns of never being able to go to school because couldn’t afford the time off and that is when she told me about NPower. Once was accepted, I was nervous to start but I am very grateful I took that step to bettering my future. I learned so much from the Tech Fundamentals program. I learned about troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining hardware, wireless networking, and using systems such as Linux. After I graduate, I plan to jump into the IT world and grow from there.
Before starting NPower, I was a merchandiser lead for SAS making little money. Also, I pondered on going back to school but the idea of going into debt made me less eager to start. I was browsing on Indeed, looking for IT internships, and saw the NPower post. At first, I was extremely skeptical but after talking with the recruiter (the lovely Fancie), I lost all skepticism and became excited to start. This program has helped me so much and has increased my confidence within myself. I gained the ITF certification, the Google IT support certification, created an awesome resume and linkedin profile through the help of the amazing PD team. After NPower, I plan getting my start in tech either through an entry-level job or an apprenticeship. I have never been so excited for my future, and I can’t wait to see where I go after the phenomenal experience I had at NPower.
Before joining NPower I was working as certified nursing assistant. I actually found out about NPower through the TikTok app. NPower has taught me so many things as far as troubleshooting routers to understanding BIOs down to professional development After graduation i plan to get an entry level IT job to gain experience so I can work my way to a senior project management.
Before joining NPower (and throughout my participation in it), I was a full-time student and full-time shift lead at a restaurant flipping pizzas. I have always loved computers, and changed my college degree plan thrice. Biology > Web Development > Cyber Security. What brought me to NPower was an epic opportunity to develop professional and interpersonal skills to help me jumpstart my career. I have learned all about a PC's typical hardware components, and how must present myself in an IT interview. After graduation, I fully intend to break into the IT field, stay in the IT field, and quit working for wages.

LAUNCHING TECH CAREERS. TRANSFORMING LIVES.
NPower’s model is a solution to building a diverse tech pipeline. Our graduates launch tech jobs with an average starting salary of $41,000–$60,000 and are positioned to advance their career path, enabling them to earn more than their peers in lower-wage jobs. Higher earning potential is the key to breaking generational cycles of poverty, positioning our students and their families to achieve long-term economic success.
WE ARE THE FUTURE OF WORK
Through partner and tech industry collaboration, our free training model is a workforce development solution for the future. In today’s economy, over 50% of all jobs require some degree of technology and digital skill. We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase in the U.S. to 13 million by 2025, according to a recent Microsoft Data Science report that estimates that digital job capacity. Our graduates of over 4,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 2000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees.
NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities.
Part of this goal is our ‘40 by 22’ initiative, which aims to advance more young women of color in tech careers. This initiative is supported by the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.
