The organization has helped young adults from underserved communities and veterans move from poverty to the middle class by training them with a range of tech skills and placing them in quality jobs.
Students who enter our free training programs earn industry-recognized certifications and graduate with the competencies of an IT professional with one to two years of experience. NPower also places students in paid internships and apprenticeships with corporate and nonprofit organizations. Eighty percent of NPower graduates get a fulltime job or continue their education. CLASS SPEAKER: TREVOR SIRLES
Tech Fundamentals 2022, NPower MissouriPrior to NPower, I was a college student who knew I wanted to work in IT but needed to figure out where to start. I've had part-time jobs and ended up going in different directions. My mom saw a commercial on TV and recommended I enroll.
At NPower, I learned about many things, from printers to virtual machines to cloud computing. It was challenging to build up confidence before taking tests, but I was well prepared using the material provided. My end goal is to work in DevSecOps. I love the community with my fellow trainees and instructors.

Before NPower, I worked at a restaurant for two years. I was a college student for a semester, but knew it just wasn’t for me. My Dad had a friend that worked for NPower and he suggested I sign up because it would be a great opportunity. My time at NPower has been a great learning experience. I learned about how computers and printers operate and how to configure them.

I struggled in high school, but managed to graduate on time. Ever since then I’ve been searching for something else to do besides college. I felt like it was a waste of money if I didn’t have an idea of what to do. I thought I had no clue on what I was going to do as far as a career. One day I found NPower through Indeed and applied. I was interested in NPower due to my prior experience building computers to play games or for family members. Ever since I started the NPower program, I’ve felt challenged every day. I’ve learned so much more about computers and technology, as well as workplace professionalism. I’m excited every day to show up on time and learn something new. I’m also very thankful for my instructors as well for making sure everyone is taken care of.

Before NPower I was a student at SIUE majoring in Cybersecurity. I already have an Associate’s degree in Arts. Mr. James Gillespie informed me about this opportunity and I knew signing up for this program would be beneficial because it goes along with my major. During my NPower journey, I have developed communication skills when it comes talking to customers and preparing for interviews. I enjoyed learning about computer components and networks. I would say the biggest challenge was managing my college classes along with getting my work done for NPower. My desires after NPower is to join the Cybersecurity advanced training class for the upcoming semester. Then, I would like to go back to SIUE to continue my studies in Cybersecurity. I would like to thank all of my instructors and classmates that made this journey easier; Mr. Sayed, Mr. Gillespie, and Ms. Jana.
BARBARA ECHOLS 20
St. Louis, MO
Before NPower, I was a college student. Mr. Gillespie referred me to the program. At NPower, I had a chance to learn important professional and technical skills. I loved the training that involves examples of what could be our future day-to-day activities. Time management was a big challenge for me, learning how to plan and put up time I needed. I kept on going because I knew I had a goal. I want to continue growing my tech career. Since being at NPower, I’ve learned that I want to be in the field of data analysis. Thanks to everyone for the opportunity!

I had recently just graduated high school and was not sure that college was the right path for me. I ran into some representatives from NPower at a job fair at my old high school, and they offered something that I was interested in; free IT certificates and an opportunity for job placement after a 16-week course. It was simply too good of an opportunity to pass up. I think the number one thing I enjoyed the most at NPower were the discussion questions and the student-led labs. It really helped me learn when I was hearing from my peers. I specifically want to thank both of my instructors, Sayed Kazimi and Jana Chavez, for always making sure to thoroughly cover topic and answer any and all questions. They always made instruction time enjoyable, and it felt like they truly wanted each and every one of us to succeed.
JAR'LISHA HARDIMON 24

Prior to NPower I was moving from job to job trying to make ends meet. I always planned on going back to college, but was financially unable to enroll. I wanted a career and life change so I started research on tech programs in St. Louis and came across NPower. I decided to join to make a life change for the better. My experience with NPower started off difficult due to me having no technical background. One of the biggest challenges for me was my self-doubt. Although it was a rocky road for me, I took it day-by-day and with the help of Jana and Sayed, I was able to catch on fairly quickly. After NPower I plan to seek employment and continued development. I am currently signed up for a Python Certification course. I want to thank Jana & Sayed for both being very helpful and willing to explain everything.
BLESSING HASAN 22

Prior to NPower, I was navigating the challenges of being a mother and working temporary assignments that never fulfilled my desires in life. With working a variety of jobs, a previous position at a diner sparked an interest for technology. I originally applied for a similar program, but they weren't as accommodating with my schedule. NPower was there to not only provide accommodation, but also diversity. Some skills that I have acquired include time management, critical thinking, observation, and introspection. Even though I had some challenges, I persisted on by thinking about how rewarding and transformative the process will be. Thank you cohort 12 for riding this journey to the end! I’d like to shout-out the instructor team – “y'all held it down with informative material and coach Rob for being a big support and cheerleader”.

Before NPower I ran into a lot of hardships in the career field. I did not even have a general understanding of what I wanted to do long term. NPower helped me get an idea. I heard of NPower from a friend and loved my first cohort. I appreciated the joy of the staff having towards pushing us forward. The staff did a phenomenal job with assisting through hardships. Every class where I felt behind or lost, Jana and Sayed made sure to let me know it was fine and that I could do it. After NPower, I want to continue my studies with NPower to secure Cybersecurity certifications. I would like to shout out Jana, Sayed, James, Ms. Lajuan & Ben.
KATIE HORTON 24

Prior to NPower, I was a college graduate struggling to find a career path that was fulfilling and allowed me to build my life in the way I wanted to. A friend of mine had recently completed the NPower program, and was very happy with how it went for them. They recommended I give it a shot. NPower taught me many things. The program was definitely challenging because I did not know much about the field or computers, but there were great instructors to support me along the way. I hope to continue in the Information Technology field utilizing the certifications I’ve completed during the program. Thank you to the entire team!

Prior to coming to NPower, I was working fulltime and looking for a career change. I've always had a knack for tech and wanted to see if I could pursue a career in it. Though I’ve faced some challenges, the NPower staff was very supportive and helpful with any concerns or problems I had. I've improved on my time management skills, as well as, not giving up on something even when it's hard. I want to thank all of the NPower staff and alumni for paving a way for young adults to find stability and purpose in their careers and personal lives.

Before NPower, I had dropped out of college and was working at the St. Louis Zoo. I wasn't sure what field I wanted to go into. Someone at my church recommended the program to me. My time in the program has been very enjoyable. The technical instructors explain the concepts in an easy way and classmates are always willing to explain it differently if you don't understand. The professional development team does a good job of preparing us for interviews, how to write a good resume, and building soft skills. The biggest challenge I faced, was learning the hardware side of technical training. This was because I didn't have a lot of experience with it. Even though it was a challenge, it never felt like a chore because I enjoy tech. After NPower, I want to complete my internship and get a full-time position. My main goal is to achieve financial independence. This program has been a blessing and I'm glad to have been accepted into it.

CompTIA A+ 1101 & 1102, Google Project Management, CompTIA Tech Fundamentals Belleville, IL
I'm a recent graduate of the Spring 2022 class at Harris-Stowe State University where I received my Bachelors in Information Science Computer Technology. While having a conversation with my closest friends about my goals and plans, they told me all about NPower and the opportunities. I enjoyed my experience with NPower. I came into the program with my goals that I wanted to achieve, making sure I capitalized on the opportunity as a whole. After graduation, my desire is to continue to learn more information; furthering my knowledge to obtain more advanced certifications. Also, I am pursuing a career in Cybersecurity, while investing into business ideas until I have my own tech company based in different states. I want to give a shout out to God, my family, my girl and my friends.

I currently work in a warehouse and have an Associate’s degree. Before this program I didn’t know what direction to take in my search for a career. I found this program through a friend. I have always wanted to learn more about computers, and am glad she showed me this program. At NPower, I have developed better soft skills and a solid base knowledge of hardware/software functions. I hope to continue learning more about computers and to find a fulfilling career. Something that stood out to me about this experience was how fun the labs could be.
KENNEDY MUTITI 23
CompTIA A+ 1101 St. Louis, MO
Prior to NPower, I served in the Marine Corps Reserves as a Network Administrator. Before that, I did a semester of college and figured out college wasn't for me. I went looking for a different experience. My mom told me about the program and a friend, Njeri, who had passed through and found a good job. NPower is unlike any other IT bootcamp. The emphasis on not only opportunities, but also soft skill development, is really crucial. I've not only developed the hard technical skills, but the soft skills to succeed in any field. The soft skill development was the most difficult for me, but with the support of the staff, I was able to catch on. I'm looking to expand my professional portfolio, get a job, and continue to earn certifications to make myself more marketable in the tech world. I’d like to shout out Sayed and Jana. They are excellent instructors, and I'm lucky to have had them in my corner. I couldn't have done it without you guys -- thank you!
THOMAS NOLAN 18

Ever since my high school computer teacher taught our class about IT, I have been interested in the topic. I started taking summer courses where we collectively built a PC as a class. I liked computers, but didn't know where I could take my first steps to become employed in the line of work. In July, I met a person that had completed the NPower program that let me know how they got an internship and later got hired right after their classes. It has been a challenge working and maintaining classes, but as I get to the end I feel this was all worth it, and one of the best ways to taking my first steps towards my goal.

Before starting at NPower, I always had a passion for technology but didn’t know where to start or how. I was jobless and didn’t have the money to support myself to go to school or pay for a program. I found out about NPower through a former coworker who had mentioned they support veterans with professional development and career discovery. I decided to look into the program and realized that this program was perfect for me. This program has been excellent. I had the opportunity to network, learn about internships, mentorships, and go through the certification training.
NPower is perfect for veterans and young adults who cannot afford traditional or vocational schooling, the bonus to the program is that it is free. I look forward to utilizing the certifications that I have earned to launch my career in tech! I am excited to apply the skills that I have developed through the process to put my foot forward to continue learning and developing.

I recently graduated from a program studying electronics and computer science in France, I was looking for a place where I could improve my computer skills, and was advised to enroll at NPower. During my time at NPower, I learned many things and have improved my computing skills. After the Tech Fundamentals course, I plan to enroll in the Cybersecurity program offered at NPower, and gain more certifications. I would like to thank all our trainers.

Prior to NPower, I worked several jobs including security, food service, and more. I came across an NPower ad on Indeed.com and wanted to find a better career. My experience at NPower has been exceptional. I learned a lot about how to troubleshoot and work on technology. During the course, we worked through real-world scenarios and learned how to solve everyday problems. To get through the course I studied every day, asked many questions, and showed up ready to learn. My desire after NPower is to find better opportunities within the career of technology. I am very thankful for my teachers, classmates, and support system.
WINTER WIDEMAN 24
CompTIA A+ 1101 St. Louis, MO
Prior and during NPower, I have been working at Target as a General Merchandise Expert for the past 4 years. I heard about NPower from my roommate, who is an Alum. In high school, I took an A+ prep class, so I wanted to expand my knowledge to get into a better career field. Training with NPower, I've gained many good study habits and they have also helped expand my professional and interpersonal skills. I really enjoyed when we would break into groups to work with our fellow trainees. The biggest challenge for me was juggling working 40-hour weeks to stay afloat, while going through the technical training. It was a rough process but I kept focusing on the “why” I was doing it. After NPower, I hope to get an entry-level IT position and stick with it for a year or two to hone in my skills, as well as using that time to prioritize my mental health and focus on my personal life. After that, I would like to come back and get some more certifications to be able to advance. I want to thank Sayed, Jana, Coach Rob and everyone on the NPower team for giving us all this amazing opportunity.
I'MAD WILLIAMS 24
CompTIA A+: 1101 & 1102, Google Project Management, CompTIA Tech Fundamentals St. Louis, MO
Early on I did not take education as seriously as I could have. I left high school my junior year and decided to go straight to work in the customer service and warehousing industries. During my time working at a big box retailer a close coworker recommended I enrolled at NPower due to the depth of our conversations in regard to technology. NPower has shown me what I am made of, in a sense, as no shortage of obstacles had presented themselves during my experience. However, no matter the intrusion it could not stand in my way of progress. I have developed my active listening skill and a level of focus that I was able to hone greatly. A challenge for me was proper time management, but while acquiring my Google Project Management certificate I had developed a better system of doing so. After NPower, I intend to continue my development within the information technology space, I am very interested in machine learning and cloud computing. I would also like to maintain employment in the role of a network administrator or related field. Thank you to Sayed, Jana, Coach Rob, Lajuan, James and Ben Kesler.
KEVION WINFIELD 25
CompTIA A+ 1101 East St Louis, IL
Prior to NPower, I was a Civil Engineering major, but did not finish my degree. From there I started working different jobs while I figured things out. After my mother presented the opportunity to attend NPower, I did my own research and felt as if I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. My experience has been great. Joining the program and not really knowing what to expect taught me the value of being uncomfortable and seeking growth. Learning a new skill or something that can make me better as a person every day, is what I enjoyed the most about training. After graduation, I plan to enroll in NPower's Cybersecurity course. I would like to thank NPower for the opportunity.
