I moved to the U.S. two years ago with the goal of living the American dream. As a first-generation immigrant, I came across several barriers to employment and struggled to find a job since my limited work experience restricted my opportunities. Learning about NPower from an online article, I immediately knew that this would be the start of the journey to a successful career in tech. NPower not only provided the technical knowledge in IT, but also worked on developing our soft skills and provided constant social support throughout the process. I am incredibly grateful to NPower for having the relentless passion to create meaningful impacts on the lives of its students. Through NPower, I am now one step closer to living my dream!

Before NPower, I was in my senior year of college trying to get an internship before I graduated, but the pandemic changed everything. After searching for ways to increase my knowledge and skills, I found NPower. I have acquired immense knowledge and skills while getting my ITF+ certification, and I’m working on the A+. I learned about hardware, software, networking, network configuration, security, mobile devices, and operating systems. NPower felt like one big family. I am thankful to the staff and my fellow students. We all worked hard and grew together, helping each other succeed. After graduating, I look forward to applying the knowledge I have gained during four years of college and NPower!

Before NPower, I received an associate’s degree in computer information systems. It was difficult getting a job due to COVID. I wanted to work, but didn’t know how to go about the job search and still needed to work on the skills necessary to get a job. This prompted me to apply to NPower after doing research on the Tech Fundamentals program. My time at NPower has been nothing short of amazing! During the short time that I was a trainee, I gained the right technical and interpersonal skills as well as a support system in the staff and my fellow trainees. I am so grateful!

U.S. ARMY SPOUSE Before NPower, I was a stay-athome mom, having moved to New Jersey with my husband and leaving my career in logistics and inventory. I enjoyed my work, but it’s hard to find a job and build a career without starting over every few years when the Army moves you. I have always had an interest in technology, so I used my time to research educational opportunities offered to military spouses. I found NPower and was impressed with what the program encompassed. I jumped at the opportunity! My time at NPower has taught me so much, from hardware and troubleshooting, to networking and mentoring. I am so glad to have had the chance to participate in the NPower program!

While I was transitioning out of the Marine Corps, I had no idea what to do out in the civilian world. One day, an NPower staff member overheard a conversation I had with a fellow Marine involving my interest in technology. I must say I was absolutely blown away by NPower. I recommend this program to anyone interested in pursuing a tech career. They have awesome staff and great instructors who actually care about you. Not only do they tell you, but they also show you. NPower gave me the confidence to thrive in a field I knew little to nothing about. I am honored to be an NPower alumnus and am very pleased with my experience. To all of the NPower staff, I want to give my greatest of thanks. Please never let this program end!

During my time in the U.S. Army from 2002 to 2006, I was stationed in Iraq as an information technology specialist setting up printers for a group of 100 people. After the Army, I got a job with IBM on a contract working as a field technician. I would go to residential and commercial sites to replace parts of laptops and desktops. I knew about NPower through a client who happened to be a veteran. Since my IBM contract was ending, I decided to give NPower a try to see how far I could go in the IT field. The staff, instructors, and my classmates all helped me gain the knowledge and confidence to advance in the IT industry. I am excited about what the future holds!

EMPLOYMENT EquiLend

Before I applied to NPower, I was having trouble securing a job after graduating from a university with a computer science degree. My brother suggested NPower during my final semester of college. My intention was to go through Tech Fundamentals so that I could apply to the advanced courses and build a career that could further reinforce my college education. The placement team looked for positions related to my degree, and I now have a full-time opportunity lined up at EquiLend. Apart from the technical instruction, NPower taught me the necessary skills to build a strong resume, prepare for interviews, and begin networking. Though I was apprehensive about the program at first, NPower is actually life-changing, and I’m forever thankful!

Like so many college dropouts, I worked in dead-end jobs. Tired of this, I decided to enlist in the military, specifically the toughest branch, the U.S. Marine Corps. I enjoyed my enlistment from 2015 to 2019. I developed new skillsets, made life-long connections, and gained self-confidence. With this newly-acquired knowledge and skills, I decided to leave the Marine Corps and work in the civilian sector. Through an alumnus, I learned about NPower. IT is a growing and sought-after career field, and I love being a part of this growing sector. NPower provided me with virtual IT classroom training and helped me acquire IT certifications and grow professionally. I will always be thankful to NPower for helping me start a career.

I stumbled across NPower in a Google search about free IT training in New York. I called the number posted on the website and applied the same day. NPower is amazing! The instructors, social support managers, and professional development teams were supportive and professional. NPower gave me more confidence and taught me how to sell myself during a job interview. After graduation, I was fortunate enough to secure a full-time job while planning to continue my education.

I got so many rejections that I didn’t think I’d ever get in. I ended up getting waitlisted and was disappointed, but my friends convinced me to accept the waitlist offer. A few hours later, I was accepted into the program! I now have the necessary tools to be career ready. My resume catches the attention of many employers. The placement managers work around the clock to find each trainee a position that is a right fit. After graduation, I plan to work for TeamLogic as a Level 1 technician. Before NPower, I was struggling to switch careers. It was extremely difficult to find anyone willing to give me a chance. I had no degree, no certifications, and no experience in IT. Thankfully, just as I was about to throw in the towel, a pal told me about NPower, an organization willing to train and even help me get a job all for free. I couldn’t believe it. I came in expecting some sort of scam. What I got instead was a group of people who have supported and guided me more than any other institution ever has. NPower is without a doubt the best educational experience I’ve had, and that’s only half of what they did for me. Their social support system and commitment to being a permanent supporting role in my life will keep making a difference long after I graduate.

Before starting NPower, I attended university for several years but stopped due to financial issues. I started working two jobs to keep busy until I could afford to go back to school. Since I wanted to pursue an IT career, I reached out to a family friend in the IT field for advice. He recommended NPower. I had never heard of this program, and after doing my research I was surprised that I never had. I was shocked to discover that such a great opportunity was available for such a great price (free)! NPower truly gives you the tools and support to succeed not only in the program but after you graduate in the real world.

Before starting NPower, I was a graduate student seeking an internship in order to make up for my lack of hands-on experience and technical expertise. An acquaintance referred me to NPower, a great program which could equip me with the knowledge and expertise I desired at no cost. Thanks to NPower, I have learned so much, developed new skills, enjoyed new achievements, and connected with amazing people. I had little experience in IT, and now I have been equipped with the knowledge of fundamental IT concepts and certifications. After graduation, I look forward to combining my experience in science with my new knowledge and experience gained in IT to help improve healthcare delivery.

Before I found NPower, I attended university for three years as an Information Technology major. However, I had to stop college and work for financial reasons, while I figured out my next step. During the pandemic, I lost my job and started to claim unemployment. I was selected to talk with someone from unemployment about finding new work, during which I mentioned how I wanted to go back into IT and find a job. About a week later, he told me about NPower and said I should apply. After researching the program, I decided to give it a try. The program was even better than I expected! NPower has made me more prepared for work than my three years in college. On top of the technical training, NPower offered me networking opportunities and chances to work on my interview skills. I am thankful for all that NPower has taught me.

I joined the U.S. Army at age 36 in 2010. Since I was an immigrant, I wanted to do something for the country where I live with my family. My primary responsibility was supervising and performing management or warehouse functions in order to maintain equipment records and parts. Due to the pandemic, it was difficult to find new job opportunities. A friend who attended NPower introduced me to the program. At first, I had doubts—how can a program like NPower be completely free? I had little experience in computers or technology, but I saw a chance to learn and something to build upon. Ever since I started, I have never regretted my decision.

I knew almost nothing about IT until a friend told me about NPower. Once I read the mission statement, I knew that it was something I wanted to join. Before NPower, I was working as a part-time barista at a small bakery and didn’t know what I wanted to do, but now, I have figured it out. I met amazing people who were there to help me land the best internship or job opportunity. After graduation, I plan to continue to learn more about IT and try to get the cybersecurity certification.

JOB IN THE MILITARY Infantry Squad Leader

I joined the Army right after high school. I was in college full-time and working two jobs to make ends meet. I felt an obligation to serve my country after 9/11 and decided the best way to do that was as an infantry medic. After my time in the military ended, I moved to New Jersey and got married. I got a job working as a security supervisor for a nuclear facility. The nuclear plant closed after I had worked there for eight years, and I was laid off. I found NPower through a veteran representative at the unemployment office. I saw NPower as a learning experience and an opportunity to finally find a career that I was genuinely interested in and in my opinion is the future. I have enjoyed the experiences and education NPower has provided, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity.

Before NPower, I had recently left my job as a security supervisor at a major hospital in NYC. It was a good job but had limited opportunities for advancement. I felt stuck. I was eager to challenge myself and embark on a new career path, but I wasn’t sure how. I knew I needed to try something different. I discovered NPower in a Veteran’s Affairs newsletter. When I signed up, I was amazed at how much time, effort, and resources they commit to each student. I went from doubting my decision to embark on a career transition to feeling empowered. NPower gave me the technical and professional knowledge to take my career to new heights. Upon graduation, I plan to continue working with the placement managers to find the opportunity that best fits my skills, abilities, and interests. Thanks to NPower, I look forward to starting the next chapter of my life!
