RALIAT AKESODE 25, THE BRONX

Prior to NPower, I was enrolled in a yearlong data science bootcamp and working as a substitute teacher for the New York City Department of Education. I enrolled in NPower because I wanted to bridge the gap between where I was at in life and where I wanted to be, which was successfully working in the technology industry in a role where my passions and interests combined. As an inquisitive individual, and with technology always evolving, I knew this field would provide me the opportunity to constantly learn and grow. In meeting my goal of wanting to learn and grow, NPower has exceeded my expectations! I am forever grateful for this experience, where I met amazing individuals, gained certifications in Project Management and Information Technology Support, and enhanced my problem solving and analysis skills. For my next steps, I would like to secure a full-time role and obtain my CompTIA certification. In the future, I will be exploring the fields of Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, and Project Management to get gain a better sense of what industry I would like to grow within.

ARIANA ALI 22, QUEENS

After graduating high school, I attended three different colleges studying pharmacy, criminal justice, and stenography. I was not passionate about any of those fields but wanted a career that would promote financial wealth. My brother recommended NPower to me as his friend was an alumnus. When first applying to NPower, I viewed it as another opportunity to find a career that would benefit me salary wise. The NPower experience is truly unique. One of the first things I noticed is how the staff interacts with not only the students but each other. The environment is very uplifting and encouraging and helps motivate you to complete the program and accomplish your initial goals. This program showed me that I’ve already found my passion but was held back in the past from not having the right environment to grow. From the moment I attended my first networking event, I enjoyed this environment that promotes growth and encourages you to do better. I am very fortunate that I was selected to be a NPower trainee, as I would not have the same mindset about success as I do today. After completing this program, I would like to continue building my career in management. Once I’ve built myself up, my end goal is to be an effective project manager.

MD ASHFAQUE ALI AYON

26, QUEENS

Before I joined NPower, I was looking to pursue my studies in Computer Science and worked as a Caregiver at the Immigrant Adult Home Care. I decided to join NPower because I wanted to improve my interviewing skills and break into the IT industry. Initially, I struggled with getting a job in IT because of my lack of experience. By joining NPower, I further developed my professional skills and am better prepared to start my career as an IT professional. Some of the new skills I gained include troubleshooting, networking, hardware & software. I also improved my professional network on LinkedIn through the peers and mentors I met on professional development days. I believe I have grown more as a professional since joining NPower, being able to listen to alumni about their life stories and how they overcame their difficulties to thrive in the IT industry was very encouraging to me. My short-term professional goal is to successfully acquire the CompTIA A+ certification. My long-term professional goal would be to join a company like Citigroup, Bank of America, or Google. I would also like to get the cybersecurity certification that NPower offers through its advanced training program.

AMY ASTUDILLO 22, QUEENS

Before applying to NPower, I balanced working two jobs and pursuing studies in criminal justice. I always had a curiosity for technology and enjoyed solving issues regarding the devices in my home. Although I had no clue what I was doing, I always seemed to figure it out. I decided to enroll with NPower because I saw a great opportunity to explore a new passion of mine. Since enrolling, NPower has brought me one of the most memorable experiences in my life. This program has opened doors for me I never thought I would achieve. I will continue to talk about this program to everyone I know. I learned so much in these past four months. I already completed my certification for Google Project Management, Google IT support, and will soon achieve my certification for CompTIA A+. After NPower, I hope I can secure a full-time tech job, and fully focus on that. I would also like to see what other certifications stand out to me so I can expand my skillset. One of my long-term professional goals is land a job where I can be in a creative space and explore more avenues within tech.

DAISY ASTUDILLO 25, QUEENS

Prior to NPower, I worked closely with kids as a childcare provider and liaison that provides families with resources. I decided to join NPower for a once in a lifetime opportunity. I want to be able to provide for my parents and my future family. I believe I can achieve this with a career in tech and solid foundation from NPower. The experience over the past months have been amazing. I made sure to attend as many professional development sessions as possible because it helped me connect with new and seasoned professionals. I also learned a lot about workplace etiquette and leading technologies. I came to NPower with no technical experience, and now I know different types of ports and computer parts, printers, and virtualization! In just a matter of 4 months, I obtained my Google project management certificate and passed the first part of the CompTIA A+ exam. As a short-term goal, I hope to transition my apprenticeship into a fulltime position and pass the second part of the CompTIA A+ exam. My long-term goal is to study to become a scrum master’s in project management and hopefully work for an even larger corporation.

AAYESHA AYUB 23, QUEENS

Before I joined NPower, I had obtained my associate degree and was working in healthcare. I knew I wanted to be in IT for the outstanding opportunities and broadness of roles available. I also wanted to be in a field that would be future proof and treat me better than other industries I’ve worked in. With NPower, I’ve acquired multiple certifications (Google Project Management, Google IT Support, and in process of my CompTIA A+). Furthermore, I was able to build my professional network with employers, NPower Alumni, and my peers. The community and networking aspects have been the most valuable part of my experience with NPower. For my next steps, I’d like to secure a position in Fintech and hone in on my coding skills before applying to NPower’s AWS course. In the future, I hope to become a programmer that’s able to work on numerous creative projects and one day enter an executive position at a company.

BRYAN ANDRES BALDA 20, QUEENS

Prior to NPower, I was studying mechanical engineering and worked at a restaurant. I was always drawn into the IT field, ever since I was a child watching my father repair old TVs and washing machines. When I realized, college wasn’t going to work out for me, I decided the best step I could take is applying for NPower. The program not only prepares you in the technical aspect, but also develops your soft skills. During the past months, I made close friends, professional connections, and earned certifications that I can use anywhere in the world. I have grown to see the potential in my professional career. I plan to accept any opportunity given to me, while taking the time to earn my degree, and join NPower’s Cloud Computing program.

PAULA CRISTINA BENJAMIN 22, BRONX

Before NPower, I was working at a fast-food chain and feeling very unfulfilled in my life. I had just moved back home after taking a break from college and was doing the best I could to have some income. After hearing a friend speak so highly of the program and doing my own research, I decided that NPower would be an amazing opportunity for me to pursue. I was intrigued by the idea of joining the tech field especially through a program that catered to disadvantaged communities like mine. Looking back on my experience at NPower, I’ve realized all the progress I made academically and professionally. I have connected with so many new people and learned about so many companies that piqued my interests. I gained both the CompTIA A+ 1101 and 1102 certifications, as well as my Project Management certification and my Tech Support certification through Google. Moving forward, I hope to secure an opportunity that aligns with both project management and IT at a company that values diversity. In the future, I would love to work for an organization like NPower that helps advance people through trades similar to tech.

DESTYN BENT 22, BROOKLYN

Prior to joining NPower, I was working at a grocery chain and helping my dad with plumbing jobs on the weekends. What really brought me into the IT field was the fact that it is something that is constantly changing and that’s something I would love to be part of. The main reason why I wanted to enroll to NPower is because of the tools they offer and the opportunity to grow my skills within IT and professional development. During the program, I became A+ certified and also met a lot of new friends. In the future, I look forward to opening new doors for myself because of the networking opportunities NPower has given me. I plan to market myself by leveraging my skills and certifications; and continue in the right direction of starting a career in cybersecurity.

RACHID BESSAL 21, QUEENS

Before becoming a trainee at NPower, I worked in retail jobs earning minimum wage, while studying in school for Computer Systems. After attaining my associate degree in Computer Systems, I began focusing more on work rather than school because I had to help my mother with finances. What drew me into the IT field was originally my deep-rooted interest in video games. From building a computer before high school aspiring to make a gaming PC; I got further into technology and started learning more. Through my experience at NPower, I’ve attained more information on specific IT topics that I lacked before. I also sharpened my professional skills through the professional development team. What I aim to do next is acquire my tech certifications and land a full-time job or apprenticeship. I know once I land my first solid experience in technology, I can continue a successful career in IT. In the future, I hope to become a system administrator and keep open minded about the direction my career and expertise can take.

BETHANY CEDENO 26, STATEN ISLAND

Prior to NPower, I was working in hospitality as a front desk agent at the start of the pandemic, not really knowing what direction I wanted to take my career in. I was introduced to NPower through TikTok, there was a creator who had recently graduated from the program, and I related with her so much in terms of her background. It was amazing to see how far the program has taken her, it almost seemed too good to be true. Nonetheless, enrolling into the program has been one of the best decisions I have made so far! NPower has done so much for me in such a short amount of time. Not only has my knowledge of IT grown, but I am also on course to receive my CompTIA+ certification. I also grew professionally and now am able to network in rooms of people with advanced careers, that previously intimidated me. NPower has given me so many opportunities I never thought I would have access to. My short-term goal is to find an internship or a direct hire that will allow me to show off my newly gained skills. The company I see myself working for in the future is Bloomberg or a company similar in culture and opportunities. I want to find a company that promotes growth and provides continuous learning opportunities.

ANTHONY CHEN 21, BROOKLYN

Before joining NPower, I worked as a tutor and employee at CFSNY, an organization where I helped children with developmental disabilities. I enjoyed the work but felt that I would not be able to expand my career with these jobs, so I decided to join NPower. Ever since I was little, I always played on the computer and worked towards building computers on my own. Helping people with their technological problems was something that I did all the time growing up, with foreign parents, therefore I felt that IT was the perfect field for me to start my career. Through NPower, I learned a lot of new skills from my instructors such as troubleshooting methods and securing certifications like the CompTIA A+, Google IT Support, and Google Project Management. For my short-term goal, I hope to secure a full-time entry-level job and start working my way up from there. As a long-term goal, I would love to explore the field of database administration or network administration.

JENIFER CHEN 25, BROOKLYN

I was working in retail for three years before joining NPower. I decided to enroll due to the fact that technology is something that I see every day and the industry is always developing. I felt like it would be interesting for me to create a new career path for myself within IT. The best thing that I’ve experienced from the program is that fact that I met so many of my peers who are all striving for the same thing and supports each other through the ups and downs. Following my completion of the program, I would like to start off at an entry level job or even internship, where I’m able to g ain transferrable skills.

SARAH LEE CHEN 23, STATEN ISLAND

Before NPower, I completed my studies in business administration and worked as a cashier and teacher at a learning center. I always had a passion for technology but was afraid to pursue it at school. I realized marketing was not a good fit for me and my friend suggested that I enroll in NPower. I decided to apply for NPower and follow my dreams. In such little time, I learned so many new things and met some amazing people. I recently passed my 1101 technical exam, and I am ready to take my 1102 next! I’ve improved greatly in my interviewing skills thanks to the wonderful volunteers. After this program, I hope to start my career in technology and achieve even more tech certifications. As for my future, I would like to develop my skills to eventually start my own business in tech.

YOUSSEF COLELLA 26, QUEENS

Before NPower, I was working as a cell phone repair technician at Assurant. While the position did offer me full time work and some decent benefits, there wasn’t much growth opportunity within the company. As a result, I decided to join NPower because I wanted to grow into a better field and gain the necessary certifications and professional knowledge to advance my career. Throughout the program I’ve gained skills such as professional communication, building a network with my peers, and leveraging the workforce experience of the NPower staff. Through hard work and determination, I was able to acquire my project management and CompTIA A+ certifications. For my next steps, I hope to secure a full-time opportunity as an apprentice and work on completing my Network + certification. In the future, I hope to work for a well-known company in a remote setting.

INA COULIBALY 23, BRONX

Prior to joining NPower, I worked as a security guard in a corporate office. I was inspired to join NPower through a previous alum who expressed all of the possible opportunities & guidance NPower has to offer. I thought to myself this is the type of learning environment I want to be a part of and made the decision to apply. NPower is truly an experience. From the instructors to my peers, I was able to connect, learn, and build in ways I couldn’t have even imagined. Prior to this program I’ve never been to a hack-a-thon or even know what it consists of! Now I can say otherwise. I’ve gained knowledge about IT as well as Project Management. I am also proud to say I am obtaining my CompTIA A+ 1101 & 1102 Certification as well. Some of my clear areas of growth are punctuality, financial savviness, and increased enthusiasm to learn more. Moving forward, I would love to continue to obtain more industry leading certifications. In the next 10 years, I see myself becoming a software developer or a business operations manager with an international company.

Prior to NPower, I went to college for business administration and realized the experience was not the right fit for me. I then became a full-time nanny looking for the next opportunity to pursue my passion for technology. I wanted to enter the field of IT because I excel in solving problems and typically support family and friends with their tech issues. Therefore, when I stumbled across NPower, I decided that I would take a chance and apply for a program that would take my interests and turn it into a career. During my time as a NPower trainee, I have acquired many skills like how to present myself in a professional environment and how to create a solid elevator pitch. With these valuable skills under my belt, my next professional goal is to become employed full time at a company where there is potential for growth. I would like to be able to combine my new technical skills and customer service skills into a role that involves mobile device management.

AIDA DOSSO DAYOU 25, STATEN ISLAND

Upon graduating from high school, I began to work as a Customer Service representative. Although I was happy to receive the employment opportunity, I knew I wanted something better for myself. That is why I decided to apply to NPower’s Tech Fundamentals program. I always enjoyed building things and troubleshooting; therefore I knew the IT field would be the right career path for me. Being in NPower has helped me build my professional network by attending different events. The team at NPower also helped me with my resume, interview skills, and so much more. As I face the internship phase, I hope to work for a small company where I can get a better understanding of how to build a computer. know my way around everything that is recommended. As for my future goal, I have high hopes of becoming a Computer Programmer one day!

MAISSA DIEYE

25, BRONX

Before joining NPower, I was working as a receptionist at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, there were office closures, and I was laid off from work. I began working as an Uber driver to help stay afloat. However, I realized I wanted more for myself and remembered a close friend of mine whose life improved after attending the Tech Fundamentals program with NPower. I decided to follow in their footsteps and take a chance on this transformational program. With NPower, I believe I have grown as a person and learned to get outside of my comfort zone. Even though I consider myself an introvert, through the program I made friends, attended events, and even networked with senior professionals in the tech industry. I also gained new technical skills like building a virtual machine, which I found super interesting. For my next steps, I would like to pass my technical exams and get my CompTIA A+ certificate. I would also like to further develop my interview skills to secure a tech apprenticeship or internship. In the future, I would like to become a software engineer.

ATHOL DILLON

Before enrolling in NPower, I was working in the construction field, as a plumber. Working as a plumber was enjoyable but became very exhausting. In search of a new opportunity that would provide me with an in-demand skill, I decided to start my tech career with NPower. At NPower, I had a great experience building connections with people who work in the tech field. I also learned a lot about computers; in the space of just three months, I acquired my CompTIA A+ certification. Now, my short-term professional goal is to start out as a data analyst. As life goes on, I would like to apply my skills towards a career as a database administrator, working with international banks and companies to ensure secure data transactions.

In the future, I hope to explore cyber security or software engineering and work at a large company like Google or Netflix.

KAREEM ENNISS 25

Before joining NPower, I was enrolled in audio school completing my studies in music. I decided to enroll with NPower because I was unsure about what to do post-graduation. I was a music major graduate with no future I could see ahead of me. I had enjoyed studying computer science in the past, however I never finished it because I wasn’t grasping the material. When I decided to change my major to music, I told myself that the next time I get the chance to learn anything about technology and computers I would take it. I enrolled with NPower because I heard it helped a lot of people with similar situations as mine and I needed something new. I needed my life to be changed in a good way. My NPower experience turned out to be great, I learned many things that I never heard of before. At NPower, I was able to build my networking skills and acquire the Google Project Management Certification, the Google IT Certification, and access to study for the CompTIA A+ exam. For my next steps, I want to secure a full-time opportunity at a tech company like TRITECH. As a long-term goal, I hope to secure a career in IT that provides me with the stability to fund my hobbies (video and music making) and take care of my family. Ultimately, I want to combine my loves music and technology.

ENGELICA FAUSTIN 24, BROOKLYN

Due to the Tech Fundamentals program, I have gained many new skills and built my professional network. I also met so many great people along the way. Thanks to the guidance of our technical instructors, I gained Coursera certifications in both Tech and Project Management. Another proud accomplishment for me was being able to get my CompTIA A+ certification! With all of the skills and certifications I have acquired, I now look forward to securing a full-time opportunity in tech while further exploring the field of biomedical engineering and repair. All of these steps in mind, to meet my overall goal of contributing to the work and maintenance of life-saving machines that are used daily.

I decided to enroll with NPower because the opportunity was too good to pass up. With NPower, I grew my network far more than I ever would have imagined. I gained better interviewing skills, learned how to network, and developed a growth mindset. I am also very proud about earning my CompTIA+ certification. Before NPower, I completed my associate degree and worked in a retail store. Shortly after, we entered the pandemic, and I spent a lot of that time researching different careers to explore and potentially pursue. I was drawn to the IT field by the challenge that it presented along with the many opportunities to learn and grow. For these reasons, I decided to enroll with NPower and gain the necessary skills to break into the IT field. My NPower experience was very positive. I learned a lot about professionalism and how to display it in the workplace. I was able to speak with many interesting and motivated individuals (classmates, instructors, guest speakers, etc.) while learning valuable skills that would be useful to me in the IT field. Starting off, I would like to find an entry level role in IT working at the help desk or in system administration. In the long-term, my goal is to find a position within cybersecurity working as an analyst at a hospital or financial institution to keep their networks secure.

YONG WEI GAO 26, BROOKLYN

Prior to joining NPower, I finished my studies in general education and completed my military contract. I decided to enroll with NPower because at the time, I was unemployed and looking for work. My cousin told me about NPower’s Tech Fundamentals program, and I decided to try it out even with no prior IT experience. With the help of NPower, I feel like my knowledge towards the IT field has increased and is now something I wish to continue to expand. I recently acquired my Google Project Management certification and am working on acquiring the Google IT support certification. As a next step, I want to complete the CompTIA 1102 exam and find a permanent role within the field of IT.

TATIANA GARCIA 26, BRONX

Prior to NPower, I worked part-time at Blink Fitness as a Front Desk Associate. Although I was grateful for the team at Blink and the supportive environment they fostered, they understood my decision of moving forward professionally. What drew me to the IT field was the ability to showcase my creativity and the opportunity to consistently learn from failed attempts. That is something I observed firsthand at NPower, many of the professionals I met reassured me that it’s ok not to know everything as long as you try to grow. The spirit and encouragement of the team and instructors make this experience more than just an intensive program. With the new skills and certifications I have earned, I hope to secure a full-time job within the IT field and joining an advanced training program with NPower. When the time is right, I also hope to explore the fields of data analytics and/or cybersecurity.

After completing high school, I was eager to learn about technology but had no idea where to begin. I chose to sign up with NPower because it offers a fantastic opportunity to develop both technical and soft skills. NPower also assists trainees in obtaining employment opportunities in tech. My time with NPower was excellent. I had the opportunity to hone my soft skills, which are crucial for interacting with people in the workplace. Additionally, I got the chance to work on my Google and CompTIA A+ certifications. My next goal is to secure a full-time position at a corporation and earn my CompTIA A+ certification. In the future, I hope to further investigate cyber security and network operations.

NURELDIN GUALDRON 21, BROOKLYN

Prior to joining NPower, I graduated from high school and pursued a career of audio engineering and music production. In my free time, I also volunteered as a teacher assistant and stage manager for small concerts or charities events. Since I was little, I always had an interest in IT and enjoyed troubleshooting the old PC that my family owned. However the costly price of college tuition kept me from pursuing IT and made this career interest a dream rather than a reality for me. Until I saw what the NPower program did for my friend, he graduated from the program and landed a job that broadened his career options and completely changed his career path. I could not believe these results, all from a free program! I had to see it for myself and applied to NPower shortly after. Throughout my time here at NPower I’ve learned a lot about professional skills, especially communication skills. I also had the opportunity to meet many people from a variety of companies, even the guy who voices the MTA Announcements! For my next steps, I hope to secure a full-time opportunity by networking and completing my CompTIA A+ and IT Support Certifications. My long-term goal is to combine the skills I learned from the music industry with my tech skills. I know many creative things these two fields could evolve into if I had to opportunity to work as a creator.

TYLER GULLEY 24, BRONX

Before joining NPower, I had graduated from high school and began the early stages of attending college. I decided to enroll with NPower because of the positive conversations I had with two of my close friends, who happenened to be NPower alumni. They knew about my interest in tech and desire to break into this field as soon as possible, which is why they recommended the program to me. Upon my acceptance into the program, I decided to build my professional experience and absorb all of the new teachings within IT. In the short time that I’ve been with NPower, I would have to say that the networking here has been a really great experience. I’m a very introverted person so getting to speak with classmates that share similar backgrounds, definitely helped me to open up more. For my next steps, I want to secure an internship or an apprenticeship so I can continue to expand my understanding of IT. I also aim to complete my CompTIA A+ certification very soon. In the future, I hope to fulfill the role of a Project Manager.

Prior to NPower, I worked for a non-profit called Center for Family Life. With this organization, I worked closely with high school students during advisory and facilitated after-school programming in wellness and college planning. I wanted to diversify my experiences and gain some technical skills because the pandemic really showed me how life can change dramatically. I am passionate about access to mental health and how technology is emerging to support people’s wellness and believe my education from NPower will help me combine the two passions. In the past months, I have managed to earn the Google Project Management Certificate and the recognition of my peers and NPower staff. My demonstrated dedication, attendance, and leadership landed me with NPower’s Trainee of the Month award. For my next steps, I hope to secure a part-time or internship opportunity in IT or human resources that will allow me to learn about an organization’s impact. In the future, I hope to explore the bridge between wellness/mental health as it interacts with developing technology.

Before applying for NPower, I worked as a package preparer at the Hello Fresh-NJ location. I was always interested in IT at a young age but didn’t believe I could get into the field due to my family’s culture and lack of believing in myself. NPower’s pathways made this vision of mine possible and helped me pursue a career path that I am very interested in. Overall, my NPower experience was amazing. I had one of the best instructors, Chris, who broke everything down and made it all easy to understand. He prepared us to take the CompTIA+ exam and made sure we all passed. Also, we learned about how to ace an interview, be professional, build our resumes, network, and meet new professionals that are in tech. For my next steps, I hope to secure a full-time entry level opportunity as tech support to build my resume and gain hands on experience.

Additionally, I have acquired my Google Project Management certificate, Google IT Support certificate, and most importantly, the CompTIA A+ certification. For my next steps, I hope to secure a full-time job in an environment I am most comfortable in. In the future, I hope to attain a job at IBM working in the cybersecurity field.

FELIX M. SANTOS 23, BRONX

Prior to NPower, I noticed my passion for sociology shifting towards tech and computer engineering. Originally, my passion for IT came from the love of video games and being the resident technician in my family, whenever they encountered issues with their devices. When it was time for me to decide on a major for school, I leaned towards computer engineering. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete this track due to the challenges I faced with my elective classes. Because my goal of making an impact on the IT field never died, I found my way into tech through NPower. I am forever grateful to NPower. NPower is not just a platform to learn about technology, but it also teaches us about professional development, an area in which I lacked. The person that I am now, is the person I always dreamt of becoming. As a next step, I would like to take all the knowledge and skills that I gained through this program and use it to earn a full-time opportunity with my internship site. In the future, I would like to continue to grow into roles like manager or CEO of a chain. To get there I am open to earning a master’s degree in a specific field of tech or taking extra courses; I’m willing to do the work that’s necessary!

TOMAS SANTOS 23, BROOKLYN

Before starting my journey with NPower, I worked in the retail industry for companies. With a number of family members in the IT field, I’ve always had an interest in tech but was unsure about how to access the training. NPower provided a start for me and allowed me to learn something that could broaden my horizons and allow me to succeed anywhere. Now thanks to NPower, I have a much deeper understanding of the innerworkings of computers. I also got great advice on how to interact with the professional world thanks to the professional development eam. I don’t have any experience in work outside of retail and construction, and the kinds of expectations and company cultures are quite different. I plan to secure an internship and continue to learn more and more. I’ve already learned so much at NPower, but I feel like I’ve only just scratched the surface. I’m nervous, but also extremely excited to enter the professional IT world.

ELIJAH SCOTT 18, STROMVILLE, NY

Prior to joining NPower, I recently graduated high school and started working as a cashier at big box retail chain. Given my fascination with technology, I made it a hobby of mine to learn programming and coding during my downtime. When a NPower recruiter visited my school and talked about NPower, I saw this as an opportunity to finally turn my hobby into a full-fledged career. Through NPower, I’ve fortified my knowledge of the IT field and acquired some soft skills for my professional pursuits. I also gained some key technical skills and industry leading certificates that will help me in my work life such as Project Management and IT fundamentals. For the next step in my life, I would like to go into an entry level role that welcomes my potential for growth. In the long term, I would hope to advance from an entry-level role into a full-time job that I whole heartily enjoy.

LEON SINGH 25, BROOKLYN

Prior to joining NPower, I was working a dead-end job in the security field with no room for growth. What drew me to NPower was the ability to learn a new skill without having to commit myself to student debt. The skills I have gained with NPower have left me ready for the IT field, by helping me earn the industry relevant CompTIA A+ certificate. Utilizing the skills I have developed during the program, my goal is to apply time management skills to my next occupation. I would also like to pass more of the CompTIA exams and increase my professional network. My long-term goals are to gain a job with financial stability and a set schedule, that way I can enjoy more time with loved ones and life experiences.

RANDIELL TEJADA 20, MANHATTAN

Before NPower, I was working at a grocery store and balancing my college classes. In search of more possibilities for my future, I decided to pursue the field of IT with NPower’s Tech Fundamentals course. Since joining the program, NPower has taught me a lot of technical and professional skills. I learned in detail how to build computers, networks, and troubleshoot problems that might occur with hardware. On the professional development side, I learned how to build a resume and conduct myself during an interview. The program has formed me into the aspiring IT specialist that I can be proud of. For my next steps, I hope to be able to work full-time and establish a stable income for myself. A future goal I have set out for myself is to work for Microsoft and make the next windows operating system.

HABBYGAHELLE ULYSSE 23, QUEENS

Before joining NPower, I worked in several customer service-based jobs. I made the decision to apply to NPower for various reasons: Technology is something that we use every day, and it is also evolving every single day. I wanted to learn new things that I could use in my everyday life. Since joining the program, I have acquired so much knowledge and strengthened my network through the Professional Development classes and getting to know my classmates. For my next steps, I hope to apply the new skills I have learned and utilize the certificate of IT Support I acquired to find a life-changing role in IT. In the near future, I would like to work in a corporate setting, using my skills to better a company and collaborate well with my coworkers.

23, MANHATTAN

Prior to NPower, I worked in construction for a few months. Although the pay was good for an entry-level position, I was not satisfied at the end of the day. NPower was the first time I saw an opening into the tech industry and provided me the opportunity to explore if my excitement for the tech industry was real. NPower has helped me in many ways, starting with learning the technical side of software and hardware. Then there were the professional leaps I have made, like being comfortable speaking in a group setting, attending networking and professional events, or putting together a professional wardrobe. The network I made within NPower is something I won’t forget, starting with all of the staff and my fellow classmates. I am thankful for everyone in NPower. Once I have the CompTIA A+ certification, my long-term goal is to earn both the CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security + certifications. With this knowledge and these certifications, I plan to seek out an entry-level network position or cybersecurity position.

JOSLYNNE

25, LONG ISLAND

Before NPower, I was working full time as a surgery scheduler in an oncology office. For the past three years, I’ve held different healthcare support roles as I navigated post grad. I decided to enroll with NPower after looking into options for a career change into tech. After researching roles that I’d be interested in such as project/ program management and data analysts as well as the vast amount of sub industries, I knew that it’d be a great place to find my niche in the future. I’ve learned a lot of skills in Tech Fundamentals in terms of coursework, as well as professional development. With the CompTIA certification and additional skills of networking, I feel more confident in my decision to change the direction of my career. My short-term goals include working in global or healthcare tech, exploring my options as I adjust to the tech world. As for my long-term goals, I hope to work in healthcare or public service consulting. My dream position would be to find an international role with the opportunity to travel and gain new experiences.

KIARA VILLEGAS GRISALES 26, QUEENS

Prior to joining NPower, I completed my studies in the field of Criminal Justice, landing a job as a Legal Assistant. Following that role, I joined the Department of Homeland Security and worked as a Transportation Security Officer. I joined the program because cybersecurity would be the perfect combination of what I love, criminal justice and technology. I had completed my collegiate career, I felt it was important for me to keep learning and growing to advance professionally. After joining NPower, I knew it was the perfect fit. Throughout my NPower experience, not only did I meet amazing future IT Support Specialists, but I also gained a new understanding and passion for technology. I acquired my CompTIA A+ certification, but also gained skills that will help advance my career goals. After NPower, I plan to grow my professional network and land a fulltime job working as an IT Specialist. My long-term goal is to work as a Chief Information Security Officer and expand my knowledge of cybersecurity. Even still, my dream job is to be a part of the FBI’s digital forensic team.

ALYSON WILLIAMS 24, QUEENS

Prior to NPower, I challenged myself by working in retail while studying criminal analysis and law enforcement technology. With my prior knowledge and passion in technology, I found NPower to be the perfect roadway to success. While I had a degree of tech knowledge under my belt, I found many obstacles in connecting with tech recruiters and employers effectively. NPower taught me the techniques needed to stand out and build to secure interviews for tech roles that I am excited about. In addition to acquiring many soft skills, I also gained my Google Program Management and Google IT Support Certificates. For my next steps, I hope to find a full-time opportunity in tech that will allow me to maintain a stable lifestyle. As a long-term goal, I hope to work in law enforcement technology or steganography. It has always been a dream of mine to find a career that entwines criminology and tech. It would be even more astounding to work with the FBI!

DASHAWN WILLIAMS 20, BRONX

Before NPower, I recently graduated from high school. I was happy about graduating but realized I did not know what to do post-graduation. After much research, I found NPower’s Tech Fundamentals program. The program was cost effective, and all its offerings had caught my interest. Experiencing NPower has allowed me to mature and grow professionally. I am confident and in a better place than when I came in. I am now on the road to finishing my Google Program Management Certification and am ready to become a tech professional. In next five years or so, I hope the career I find myself in is both enjoyable and low stress.

JEREMY WU 26, QUEENS

Before joining NPower, I was studying Computer Science at NYU’s School of Engineering and made the decision to stop attending. I did not know what I wanted to do until I heard about NPower and decided to apply for the program. The decision for me to join was simple because I always had an interest in tech, after building my own computer. Additionally, I had little knowledge in regard to professional etiquette, applying for jobs, and performing well in interviews. By enrolling with NPower, I further developed my soft skills and professionalism, thus preparing me for a better position in the tech industry. For my next steps, I would like to secure a full-time opportunity and work towards the CompTIA Network+ certification. In the future, I hope to work in various positions within the tech industry, providing me with foundational knowledge in most or all major topics in tech.

TECH FUNDAMENTALS FALL 2022 49 LAUNCHING TECH CAREERS. TRANSFORMING LIVES.

MICHAEL ZOU WU 25, BROOKLYN

Prior to joining NPower, I was attending a software engineering bootcamp where I was building frontend and backend technologies for websites, website design and web store design. What prompted my decision to join NPower, was the goal of bringing together my software skills and developing them alongside my hardware skills. I wanted to become a full-package tech expert and professional. Through the program, I was able to build my professional network across all of NPower’s partners. I have gained a myriad of technical knowledge about computers, monitors, networks, printers and how to troubleshoot them properly. In this semester, I also acquired my CompTIA A+ certification and the Agile Project Management certification from Coursera. For my next phase, I would like to secure a full-time opportunity with companies like BNY Mellon, Bloomberg, Amazon, or Accenture. In the future, I would like to explore robotics and machine learning; as I have done machine learning labs concurrently with NPower. I would also like to expand more into artificial neural networks, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to implement this information into technologies; benefitting management with the automation of manual tasks.

RUSSELL ZENG 22, BROOKLYN

Before NPower, I was working in a coffee shop as a barista. While attending school, I worked 30+ hours per week and felt my mental/physical health was deteriorating. My real interest was in the IT field, dedicating my leisure time to building and troubleshooting computers for family and friends. Ultimately, I decided to join NPower because I felt like I wasn’t progressing in my career and I wanted something that would help me pursue IT certifications and expand my professional network. My NPower experience was very positive. I gained a lot of relevant skills for a career in the field of IT. I have also met a lot of new people and learned how they started their careers in IT. With time, I was able to acquire the project management certification and pass the CompTIA A+ 1101 exam! For my next steps, I would like to be fully certified for CompTIA A+ certification and finish my IT Support Certification. After this, I hope to get a full-time opportunity in IT role and get certified for the Network+/Security+ certifications. Further into the future, I hope to explore the field of cybersecurity and learn how to protect organizations from attacks/threats.

“When going through orientation, I shared that I was not sure what I wanted to do for a career and that I changed my major three times before signing up for NPower. Marina shared with me something along the lines of “It’s okay to not know. That is why you are here, to figure it out.” This resonates with me because it was the first time, I heard that saying from someone who is not my age and also struggling.
