I always had an interest in IT and needed a way to launch my career in this industry that is rapidly growing. Once my sister informed me of the many opportunities that NPower provides, I decided to apply. I have learned about the internal and external components of a computer, how networking works, and more about security and the different ways to protect people against attacks on their computers. During professional development workshops, I learned about resume building, interviews, and how to carry myself as a professional. I can honestly say that I’ve learned so much technically and professionally. My experience during the past few months have been fulfilling and I am forever grateful to this program for equipping me with a new set of skills.

Before discovering NPower, I struggled to make ends meet with jobs that paid minimum wage. During this time, I decided to turn my focus towards my true passion, the IT field. What I enjoyed most about this journey was finding motivation each day in my class to finish what I started. This was no easy feat, I balanced classes while working full-time and taking care of my family. NPower gave me the tools, confidence, and motivation to earn my CompTIA IT Fundamentals and A+ certifications, as well s the Google IT Support certification. This will help me launch a successful career in IT.

Prior to joining NPower and pursuing a career in tech, I was studying history. Even though IT was a completely different field of study, I had a lingering curiosity about it. As a child, I was always tinkering and messing around with electronics, wanting to see what would happen if I pressed a certain button. I was also known as the “IT” person among family and friends. Whenever there was an issue with the computer, phone, or television, I was the one they called to troubleshoot the issue. The world is shifting to an age of technology, and I wanted to be a part of it. I found out about NPower from my mother. She knew about my interest in technology and encouraged me to join the program. From NPower, I learned the hard skills involved in technology and the soft skills to apply in the workplace. I learned how to be professional, write a proper resume, and find job opportunities that are right for me. Now that I am graduating from NPower, I want to immediately join the workforce and have a career in the IT field.

Before the NPower Tech Fundamentals Program, I worked as a supervisor at an after-school program. I always wanted a career in IT but needed a way to excel and dive into the profession. Fortunately, my close friend told me about the opportunities at NPower, and I made it through the application process! It has been a thrilling experience; NPower taught me a lot professionally, technically, and financially. I learned key skills like time management and punctuality, professional networking, and public speaking. Previously, selfmotivation was a problem for me, but NPower helped strengthen my mental preparation for anything that coming my way. With all of these life lessons, I plan to further my education in information systems and obtain more IT certifications.

I first learned of NPower through some members of my tech classes, who recommended the Tech Fundamentals Program as a great opportunity to acquire new skills for the workforce. While studying at NPower, I learned about resume writing and received professional advice from coaches. A proud accomplishment was completing my ITF and A+ certifications and acquiring a new set of technical skills. My next steps are to secure full-time employment, gain a solid footing in a company, and work to build up my resume. My dream profession would be to work as a database administrator or a security analyst for a small team, doing good work and making an honest living with the tools and skills NPower gave me.

After a career in corporate event planning, I discovered my love for technology and how it integrates into our daily lives. As the pandemic hit in March, I was laid off from my full-time job and found a new opportunity to deep dive into technology and networking. After some failed job applications (due to lack of experience and knowledge base), I was lucky enough to land a spot with NPower. I gained a better understanding of IT concepts, worked on my professional skills, and trained with the other students to acquire ITF+ and A+ certifications. The support system has been tremendous! I have increased my skills as well as built relationships with individuals passionate about tech. I hope to use these skills to leap into a network engineering career or even DevOps engineering. If there is anything that NPower has taught me, it is that a healthy balance of motivation, patience, professionalism, and a studious attitude can make any goal within reach.

Before NPower, I was a little unsure about what I wanted to do professionally. Thus, I decided to join NPower to further develop my IT sand professional skills. Before NPower, I worked as a personal assistant. Once the pandemic hit, it gave me a chance to reassess what I wanted to do in life. After a bit of research, I realized that I wanted to land a career in the exciting and evergrowing world of IT. This led me to research technology programs; NPower was at the top of my list due to its mission and history of helping people who come from the type of community I live in. My experience in the NPower program is one that I could never fully articulate because it has been that amazing. Amidst a pandemic and being 100% online, NPower excelled in its responsibilities to teach us technology. Everyone went above and beyond their duties, making this program feel like a family. The old adage, “It is not about how many times you fall but how many times you get up,” comes to mind. NPower not only helped me up but taught me how to pick myself up when I inevitably will fall again. It also taught me how to run properly to help minimize the number of times I fall.

Before NPower, I was searching for work in the middle of a pandemic. I applied to jobs relevant to the political science field, while also juggling several part-time jobs. In search of an opportunity and new skills, I decided to jump into IT with NPower. We were shown several methods and ways to improve ourselves professionally. At first, I did not think there was much to really learn; just spruce up your resume, smile during interviews, and dress well. But boy, was I wrong! We ended up learning about everything from elevator pitches to how to effectively job hunt. The knowledge I gained will benefit me for the rest of my life; I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to learn. Long term, I want to have a stable position in a company I love working for, growing and reaching better positions within a company such as Sony.

Before NPower, I was feeling directionless because I was unemployed due to the pandemic. My previous professional role showed me that I wasn't developed enough as an IT professional. My co-workers, NPower alumni, told me about the benefits of the program. At first, it seemed too good to be true. I ended up joining NPower and even though it was virtual, I thrived. I learned how to use my existing network AND make it grow. I also gained foundational skills when it came to hardware and software troubleshooting. I now have a professional role with Tiffany and Co. thanks to NPower! In the future, I plan to go into cloud solutions, ideally, working for a company like Amazon.

I was drawn to that because Vivian himself described his life before NPower in the same way as I would describe mine. Through NPower, I learned about how diverse the IT field is and how to take the necessary steps to reach different career paths. I never knew how to properly troubleshoot or build a computer. Nor did I see how my past work skills could be transferable to future jobs. I would like to secure more certifications and gain more hands-on experience in IT.

Before I found NPower, I was struggling to find a career path that I really connected with. My journey getting to this point was not easy; getting accepted into NPower wasn’t either. Staying through the program while also dealing with many different challenges was tough but totally worth it. I have made so many new connections and some really cool friends, despite there being a pandemic. Class 45 really created a fun environment online to learn and build our skills. I have successfully completed the ITF+ and A+ certifications and will strive to earn more. I am so grateful to the NPower family for helping me gain the confidence to conquer my dreams and chase my success!

Before NPower, I struggled to approach companies or recruiters and always wondered what I was doing wrong. NPower showed me how to be professional and study for certification exams. The NPower program helped me to clear my vision so I could focus on what I wanted to do in the IT field. By opening this door in my professional journey, NPower and its staff guided me toward passing my ITF certification. I now look forward to getting my A+ certification and applying for tech jobs. I am focusing on the networking field and looking for entry-level jobs to gain more experience. In the future, I would like to study cybersecurity and working for an IT company as a cybersecurity analyst.

If you asked me today where I see myself in two years, I would tell you “living a successful life, accomplishing my dreams and building a career in IT.” However, if you had asked me the same question before my acceptance into NPower, I would not have been so certain. Shortly before finding NPower, I had failed my last semester in college, quit my full-time job and become a full-time parent. Fortunately, the NPower program gave me the opportunity to fast-track my life in pursuing a career in a field that I enjoy. Being a woman in tech has certainly had its challenges, but thanks to NPower I now have the confidence, tools, and knowledge needed to take charge and make a successful living.

Before NPower, I was living day to day without a goal. While searching for job opportunities, I found NPower and became excited about the opportunity to earn valuable IT skills. When I was younger, I took apart an Xbox 360 and something about seeing the inside of the console sparked my interest in tech. I soon found myself subscribing to multiple tech YouTube channels to learn more about the latest tech. Since my enrollment, I have learned many valuable skills, such as troubleshooting problems, creating a resume, and business etiquette. I hope to land an IT job in a game development. I would love to work at Jagex or Capcom. Without NPower, I’m not sure where I’d be right now!

Prior to NPower, I was fresh out of high school waiting to receive a response to my Tech Fundamentals application. I knew how beneficial NPower would be in helping me get my foot in the IT door, thanks to my brother who graduated from a previous class and constantly preached the benefits of the program. During COVID-19, I lost my job, and it made me realize that the only people who still had jobs were in the tech field. It was a difficult time for me. Then my brother introduced me to NPower. I decided to join because I wanted to learn more about technology and understand the fundamentals of a computer. It was an eyeopening experience. NPower provided the essentials to succeed in IT, from offering tutoring, coaching, and mock interviews, as well as helping trainees find the perfect internship. After graduating from NPower, I want to expand my learning of IT and try to achieve more certifications. My dream is to work for a well-known company that will motivate me to grow individually!

Before joining the amazing NPower team, I was working for the U.S. Census as a field supervisor. While I found my job rewarding, I knew it was a temporary stop on my future career path. While researching new opportunities, I found NPower. I was immediately drawn in by their mission. Helping under-represented and underresourced communities gain access to opportunities that would not otherwise be available, is something that speaks to me! After completing the Tech Fundamentals program, I now know that joining NPower was the smartest decision I could have made to enter the IT field. The NPower team is extremely supportive, always ready and able to address all concerns or issues you may face. NPower gifted me the tools and knowledge to earn CompTIA as well as Google certifications. I am confident that I’ll be implementing all that NPower has taught me.

Before I joined NPower, I was a high school student with an interest in tech. I decided to look for programs that offered to help me learn more about tech at no additional cost and found NPower. During my time at NPower, I experienced nothing but great things. NPower has not only helped provide the skills needed to complete the course, but also real-world skills to help me later in the tech world and motivate me to do more. I was able to complete the course and earn my CompTIA ITF+ and CompTIA A+ certifications. These certificates are not the only ones I plan to pursue. I am now looking forward to completing more certificates and improving my skills.

Prior to joining NPower’s program, I worked two jobs which benefited me immensely, regarding my professional development. Unfortunately, this all came to a stop when the pandemic greatly impacted the workforce nationwide. During this time, my best friend informed me about NPower, and I knew I should give it a chance. Technology always interested me, and with its big presence in my everyday life, I knew NPower would be able to open more career options for me. I managed to learn a variety of technical skills such as how to build computers—which is the most interesting to me so far—as well as how to manage and balance my time efficiently. With all that NPower has taught me, I hope to one day work with a team of like-minded individuals who have a passion for further integrating technology into their daily lives.

Before joining NPower, I was struggling to find a career in IT due to the pandemic and my inexperience. Upon enrolling, I quickly found that this is a program that is genuinely interested in my personal and professional success. NPower provided engaging classes, which added to my technical experience, as well as professional development workshops, which taught me to network. I was also introduced to numerous mentors and resources. Whether I work towards more certifications or take advanced courses with NPower, I am going to continue to build upon the foundations NPower laid for me.

Through partner and tech industry collaboration, our free training model is a workforce development solution for the future. We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase nearly five-fold by 2025, rising from 41 million in 2020 to 190 million in 2025. Our graduates of over 4,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 2000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees. NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities. Part of this goal is our ‘40 by 22’ initiative, which aims to advance more young women of color in tech careers. This initiative is supported by the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.
