INTERNSHIP

Before I joined NPower, I was in the process of finding ways to transition into the tech field. I was lost and confused. I did not know the fundamentals of technology and was seeking help online and discovered NPower. I am happy that I made the decision to apply and go forward with the program. They provided the opportunities and resources to help me find employment. I will forever be grateful to NPower for everything they have done for me!

Before NPower, I didn’t know what career to choose. I felt like I was running out of time. I was interested in technology because I wanted to be a part of something bigger. Through NPower, I had an amazing opportunity to start a career in tech. I learned technical, financial, and professional skills. I now have a resume to be proud of. I was inspired by the great guest speakers to get more certifications and further my education and career in network security. I am proud to be part of the small percentage of women in the tech field. I am so grateful for the opportunity NPower gave me!

Before NPower, I was working in a retail store. I didn’t mind working there, since the work environment was friendly and close to home, but I felt like there wasn’t much potential to grow and make a career there. After looking at options, two friends told me about NPower. They said it offered opportunities to start a career in tech, and they were most certainly right. NPower has opened me into a new world, with so much to learn and apply. I truly am grateful to every single member of the NPower family for helping me do better and become more professional. This is just the beginning. hope to expand my career in a place filled with opportunities like Citi.

Before joining NPower, I was working a retail job and struggling to find the right career. Once I joined the program, I felt as though I had a future with endless opportunities. NPower not only taught me the fundamentals to jumpstart my career in the tech industry, they also coached and supported me throughout my job search. Now, thanks to the team, I can confidently say I am no longer struggling to find the right career. I’m excited to see where my class and I will be in the next few years!

INTERNSHIP

Before NPower I was working at jobs in health administration, data entry, and computers. I was searching for a career that would not only make me happy and content but financially stable as well. was introduced to NPower by an alumnus. Ultimately, he became an assistant instructor for the AWS Cloud Program. NPower gave me new connections, as well as new skills and experiences. I acquired my CompTIA A+, Google IT Support, Google Project Management, and Google Data Analytics certificates. I plan to gain more experience within my new field and climb the ladder. I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity

Prior to NPower, I graduated from City College of New York with a BA in sociology. I was also working in a health agency looking to change my career trajectory to technology. What brought me to NPower was an email newsletter about this wonderful program. NPower gave me a more defined sense of purpose and increased confidence in my skills and abilities to overcome the imposter syndrome. was able to earn my CompTIAA+ certificate as well as my Google IT Support Professional and Google Project Management Professional ones. After graduation, I will combine my experience in customer service and new technology skillset to procure a full-time job.

Before NPower I was in college with the aim of becoming a lawyer, but after taking a few legal classes I realized that I no longer had an interest in working in that area. I began working in security operations hoping I’d eventually figure out what direction to take. The pandemic was beginning, and I was growing bored with doing the same work every day. Computers were one of my interests, but I never pursued it as anything other than a hobby. I realized that I could probably turn this hobby into a career and began researching how I can get into IT and found NPower. Tech Fundamentals really helped me get a basic understanding of IT and find an interest in cybersecurity.

I am extremely excited to see what I can do with these new skills and where I am heading in my next chapter!

Before NPower, it was a constant struggle to find internships and employment. I finally found the solution when I came across NPower at a career fair. The staff are bright and passionate. They truly care about the trainees.

Now that I am crossing the finish line, I would say that I am in a much better position than when I started the program. I gained knowledges that I will apply in life and the field of technology.

NPower opened my eyes on how broad IT is, with countless opportunities. I plan to pursue cybersecurity. I thank NPower for the changes it made in my life!

When I graduated from college with a bachelor’s in business administration and management, Covid was in full swing. A friend who had completed NPower told me about it, and I figured I would try going into the tech field. I learned about IT and tech, as well as how to do interviews, network with others, and operate in the workplace. Coming out of NPower with several certifications, I have achieved more in these past months than I did in five years of college! I also met amazing colleagues and NPower staff, and I look forward to starting a new career in tech and receiving a full-time internship.

Prior to NPower, I was doing dog walking while trying to put myself through school. I was going to school for nursing and wanted to continue. But my program was not accredited, and I left behind two years with nothing to show! It was time to reflect on what I had a passion for in life. I decided to follow the example of a friend in tech and learned about NPower through HRA. I was able to finally learn some of the names, labels, and manufacturing facts about those same computer parts that I proudly continue to use to this day. NPower confirmed my passion to continue down this career path. I want to learn more and get my hands dirty, and now plan on continuing my education and experience in technology.

NPower was recommended by a friend, and it sounded too good to be true. I did my research because I had nothing to lose, and after months of tech fundamentals training, networking, and even a job placement, I realize I had everything to gain. NPower worked tirelessly to prove that I’m capable of being successful in the competitive field of IT. I couldn’t be more grateful for the technical skills and professional development. Not only did NPower give me the tools necessary to prosper in the tech field, they also gave me a clear lane to a future I didn’t think possible!

Before started NPower, I was doing an IT support course. My wife inspired me to join NPower since it was related to IT and my background was in technology. I have had interviews and haven’t gotten any offers since English is my second language; I moved to the US just a year ago. However, this is not the end! I’m trying hard to improve my English; my goals are to get internship opportunities with permanent jobs. I strongly believe that I will get there no matter what. My future plans are to do the cybersecurity program and become a cybersecurity specialist.

A friend told me about NPower. It sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a shot. One of the best choices I ever made! I learned about hardware and software and their role when using any device. I loved the professional events, creating resumes, discussing interviews, dress, and creating a LinkedIn account. I met people like no others, and we shared laughter, passion, and similar hobbies. I recommend the program to anyone looking for an opportunity in tech, to start a new career or expand their knowledge. I plan to work with companies such as Sony and Google with a small team of IT professionals.

Before NPower, I worked in customer service for six years and felt the need to follow my passion for all things technology. Then the pandemic hit, leaving me at a standstill. After being home for a year, my job started to reopen, and I was anxious to get back into the swing of things. But tragedy struck; my older brother passed away from COVID. This devastated me and my family. Then a friend, an NPower alum, told me about his experience and how it’s available to almost t anyone. I decided to apply, as my brother wanted me to pursue my passion and had wanted to support me financially so I would do so. He wasn’t given that opportunity; the moment of truth came when I was accepted into NPower. NPower has been an amazing journey. From working with the staff to interacting with my fellow cohorts, it has been a life-changing experience for which I am forever grateful!

Before starting NPower, I was working two part-time jobs and struggling to support myself. Going back to school was not an option since I still have student loans. I knew that I wanted a new career path but didn’t know where to start. Thankfully, my friend who joined recommended me to NPower. Now that I graduated with the knowledge and certification I need, I’m ready for my new journey!

Coming to NPower has been a life-changing experience. It was a big leap of faith as I was making a career change and didn’t know what to expect. I learned valuable lessons that were both technologyand life-related. I was happy to have a social support manager who made me feel like I mattered and was cared about, which is rare. NPower prepared me for the IT world as well as the professional one. I’m grateful to everyone on the team and my classmates for giving me a safe space to learn and grow. I cannot wait to see what heights I will reach!

Before NPower I worked jobs to make ends meet, but I always felt like I wanted a career, to constantly focus on self-growth and feel fulfilled working. I learned interpersonal skills working at different jobs, but the pandemic helped me realize that I needed a career that is pandemic-and recession-proof. That’s when I came across NPower, a brilliant program that helps young adults and veterans land entry-level tech jobs that are a steppingstone to vast opportunities. I leave this program confident in my technical expertise and my business acumen. I was able to network with some of the most accomplished tech professionals, including many Chief Information and Technology Officers! With all this industry insight, navigating through our new careers will be a breeze!

Before starting NPower, I was working at a city job sort of mindlessly. I didn’t have much direction. One day, through emails the city sent, I found a life-changing event to help me return to the technology field. Having a background in technology piqued my interest, so I applied. Wow, was I in for a ride! Everything I was skeptical about was immediately proven wrong. To top it all off, it was free! We were told to “trust the process,” and it was good advice. Now I have skills and a job I never thought possible.

Before NPower, I worked at an ice cream shop as a manager. It felt dead end; I constantly applied to jobs trying to grab anything geared towards a career. I was recently out of college due to the pandemic and felt unwanted with my lack of experience. I couldn’t afford school, nor could I afford the other certification programs I found. I was at my wit’s end and didn’t know what to do when a friend recommended NPower. I was skeptical because it was free, and everything I had seen was not. But what did I have to lose? Throughout this program, I learned the technical language, ran simulations, and studied for exams. I met staff and peers who cared about their students and their success.

Before NPower, I was going to a school for web design. My teacher introduced our class to NPower. Then the pandemic hit, and my life took a different direction. I struggled with poor mental health and had to work hard to get my life back on track. I learned the importance of keeping order and staying strong. NPower helped me build my technical as well as my soft skills. I’m working towards getting my CompTIA A+ certification and recently got my Google IT Support one. After graduation, I plan to find suitable employment and continue to learn on my own time in order to increase my skillset.

Prior to NPower I had no real direction or knowledge about how to start my career. I knew I wanted to do something in IT, but I didn’t have any particular interest. NPower showed me different paths an IT professional can take and helped me see where I want to be, and what I want to do. It is thanks to NPower that I feel like I have direction in my life!

TECH FUNDAMENTALS | SPRING 2022 17 16

As I approached six years in the dental industry, I felt stagnant and craved change. After hearing about the rapidly growing tech industry, I nervously researched ways to make a career switch. Simultaneously, a friend and alumnus of NPower told me about this program and all it offers. I applied immediately! NPower provided me with the opportunities to obtain my ITF, CompTIA A+, and Project Management certifications, as well as the chance to connect with a mentor. This program also taught me way more than just IT skills, as I have had the chance to connect with students and staff all over the US and develop my networking and communication skills. I am extremely grateful to have been selected to participate in a program that is so invested in the success of its students!

Before NPower, I had a passion for IT but didn’t know how to turn that passion into a career. NPower provided me with certifications that show my knowledge that I will use throughout my career.

NPower allowed me to grow not just in my knowledge of IT but grow as a person as well. I had to become dedicated and focused in order to achieve more. It wasn’t easy at first but NPower gave me the support to keep me on track.

NPower allowed me to start a career in IT that will change my life for the better.

Before NPower, I was in college jumping from class to class, not knowing what to pursue as my career. I’ve always loved playing around with technology, whether it’s hardware or software. Two years into college, I realized I was wasting my time, and luckily my friend told me about NPower. I took a semester off from college and joined NPower. I learned new technical skills and earned multiple certifications and got tons of advice and connections through professional development classes. It is a great program that gets you ready for the real world!

Before NPower, I graduated high school and was burned out. I wanted to explore career paths. The pandemic taught me that anything could happen. Adapting to those circumstances and adding new skills are vital for growth. Participating in this program not only gave me hope to pursue a career that’s actually interesting, it also gave me important life skills and experiences. With my learning disability, I found subjects difficult. NPower instructors we’re exceptional and met my needs as a person who struggles with basic words and forming sentences. To be in an environment that only wants the best for you is exceptional! This program brought more benefits than I could have conceived. Now I can only imagine how far I can go!

I found out about NPower through chance while strolling through the web. I had no experience in tech and just got out of a deadend barista job. With little to no experience with tech, I struggled to grasp some of the concepts taught and often wanted to quit, but I didn’t. I kept going — studying and practicing some of material we learned like RDP and the command line and even grabbed some free certifications along the way. Now I love tinkering with technology and look forward to a career as exciting and evolving as tech!

Before NPower, I was working in a field where I did physical labor, without the possibility of growth. I’d spend some days contemplating learning something that I’m passionate about, in a field where I could grow. I searched on Google “IT Training available near me” — and NPower showed up. My time at NPower gave me knowledge of different technologies, and at the same time helped me develop the professional aspect of my life. Moving forward, I’m looking to make a career move into the IT field and continue to learn more and make more connections.

Before NPower I was a young adult trying to figure out his career path. I had multiple jobs before but wasn’t satisfied, so I pursued a childhood interest in technology. What brought me to NPower was an IT worker at my mother’s job. I had inquired about how to get into the field, and she asked him, and he recommended this program because he had friends who had done it and secured good jobs. NPower was great! I learned how things operate and how technology is a big part of everything. After graduation, I plan to pursue my interest in technology further.

I graduated from Queens College with a BA in media studies, but it was the height of the pandemic and all businesses closed or went remote. I was unable to find employment and searched for two years. My mother happened to talk to IT support at her employment, and he was an alumnus of NPower. He suggested that I apply since it was so successful for him. This program has taught me so much about the IT world! I received a certification in Google IT Support and Project Management. I am also studying to get my certification in CompTIA A+. I look forward to getting a job in IT as soon as possible since it’s been a rough two years of searching and no one hiring. Thank you, NPower, for all your knowledge and support!

Prior to NPower I was in multiple customer service-facing occupations in retail and medical offices, unsure how to develop a career. I was introduced to NPower through my friend who had been in the previous cohort and suggested the program after hearing about my concerns regarding my lack of career goals. NPower gave me insight into the different career paths in IT. With my new skills, I plan to pursue a career in data analytics or even another occupation in IT!

Before NPower, I was an unemployed college graduate struggling to make ends meet. My best friend introduced me to NPower. I decided to make a career move for the better and knew this was just the program for me. With the networking, internship, and certification training, this program has been a blessing, all free! The only thing I had to do was “trust the process,” and that did. With my new skills, I look forward to launching my tech career and obtaining a full-time position after my internship.

Prior to NPower, I was a college student looking for any program or internship to guide me in the right direction toward a tech career. Then the pandemic hit and made this difficult. I felt lost and worried, until I was introduced to NPower by a fellow trainee. NPower gave me confidence to network and conduct myself as a professional while also helping me gain technical skills. I acquired my CompTIA A+ 1001 and two Google certifications: Project Management and IT Support. am now working on the CompTIA A+1002 certification. I am extremely grateful to NPower!

Before NPower, I worked as a part-time paralegal, trying to decide between a career in law or technology. I always had an interest in tech due to my past experience using data management tools where I saw the need to streamline the usage of such technology to mitigate the issues faced by paralegals. Through NPower, I gained the technical knowledge to obtain an internship with Citigroup, where I plan to flourish as a technical business analyst. I could not have done this without NPower!

I have an affinity for technology; my high school had a few tech programs, so I enrolled myself in C++ to cultivate my interest into a hard skill. Unfortunately, what was described as an introductory course soon became an unattainable sprint with kids who spent summers at summer coding programs. I ended up leaving C ++ to stop my hemorrhaging GPA, feeling discouraged but not defeated. I then took on a minor in computer science with hopes of starting my journey in tech. I talked to my uncle about giving up on tech, and he introduced me to NPower. I joined in a lastditch effort. NPower was everything I needed and more. I got a Google IT Support and Project Management certification and am now pursuing my CompTIA A+ one. NPower’s fantastic staff gave me the technical skills and professionalism to confidently pursue an IT career!

Before NPower, I had recently graduated from New York City College of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems. I had this degree but had trouble finding out where to go in the tech industry.

A family member recommended NPower, and I joined to refresh my tech knowledge and learn new professional skills that I can use to improve my interview and people skills. NPower pushed me to network with many experienced individuals and to work toward getting the Google IT Support, Google Project Management, and CompTIA A+ certifications. I’m grateful to the staff who pushed us all to be the best we can be and find our places in the tech world!

I learned about NPower through a friend and did my homework and applied for the Tech Fundamentals course. In the beginning I was doubting myself a bit as I was going through a tough time after losing a close relative. Once we jumped into the material and started learning, I felt more confident. After gaining a better understanding of technology, useful tips for future interviews and new job opportunities, I’m excited and better prepared for what the future has in store!

Before NPower, I was in my third year of college as a network and computer security major. I struggled to find a community of learners and future professionals and to understand how the material I learned in college could be used to apply for jobs. At the same time, mounting financial pressure caused my uncertainty to turn into depression. I took a semester off from college and when I did, a friend recommended NPower. After the first week of classes, I was already sure that I’d found a community that I’d be proud to be a part of. After completing Tech Fundamentals, I earned two IT certifications (CompTIA A+, Google ITS), one project management certification (Google Project Management). I also developed relationships with financial and professional mentors and formed a much larger professional and personal network. With my new skills, certifications, and network, I look forward to jumpstarting my career in IT!

Before starting NPower, was a struggling college student having a hard time adjusting to online learning due to COVID. NPower gave me a sense of normalcy in an engaging classroom environment. One instructor was one of the best teachers I’ve ever come across; he not only made much of the material easy to understand, but also fun to learn. It still amazes me how much was able to learn in a mere 16 weeks!

NPower is one I’m truly grateful for and will never forget.

Before starting NPower, I was a year out of college after leaving, unsure of what I really wanted to pursue. After participating in other programs, was told about NPower, and about how the specific class focused on Tech Fundamentals. The amount of information I got from NPower gave me so much more insight into where I wanted to go and how I was going to go about my next stage in life. From the certifications, to multiple classes and opportunities for internships and mentorships, I was surprised I was able to gain all of this knowledge for free. I have no doubt that my next step in the tech industry will be a strong one!

WE ARE THE FUTURE OF WORK

Through partner and tech industry collaboration, our free training model is a workforce development solution for the future. In today’s economy, over 50% of all jobs require some degree of technology and digital skill. We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase in the U.S. to 13 million by 2025, according to a recent Microsoft Data Science report that estimates that digital job capacity. Our graduates of over 4,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 2000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees.

NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities.

Part of this goal is our ‘40 by 22’ initiative, which aims to advance more young women of color in tech careers. This initiative is supported by the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.

LAUNCHING TECH CAREERS. TRANSFORMING LIVES.

NPower’s model is a solution to building a diverse tech pipeline. Our graduates launch tech jobs with an average starting salary of $41,000–$60,000 and are positioned to advance their career path, enabling them to earn more than their peers in lower-wage jobs. Higher earning potential is the key to breaking generational cycles of poverty, positioning our students and their families to achieve long-term economic success.
