DALLAS, TX JOB IN MILITARY Registered Nurse, OBGYN Charge Nurse

I joined the army just before 9/11. The promise of an education while in was taken off the table due to the escalated situation at the time. Upon leaving after serving 4 years with an honorable discharge, I tried the civilian side for employment but only got a mixture of over qualified/under qualified responses, and manual labor was not an option because of the injuries I obtained in the army. With help from fellow veterans and old friends from high school I manage to find quick jobs to make ends meet. Eventually I landed a dead end job in security. I tried to continue my education for computer programming through DeVry, but my GI Bill ran out just shy of graduation. Thankfully NPower gave me a chance to sign up and I got in. The classes have been a great refresher and I have learned more about the IT field. Most of all NPower has introduced me to many people in the IT field. Real people that I can talk to and help me finally get my foot in the door. Upon completion I look forward to finally getting a career in the IT field.

I joined the military just after graduation from Texas woman's university as a nurse, as a 2nd lieutenant. I was stationed in Walter Reed Army Medical Center for a few months and transitioned to Hawaii for my postgraduate program. Finally ended up in Germany as my permanent duty station. Returned to the USA and gained employment with a home health agency. 2 years later, I started my own business in the healthcare arena and afterwards, started and managed several other businesses. After 24 years as an administrator in the home health care business, I was burned out, with patient care and I decided to change strictly to Administration. In order to be effective and functional in this field, l need lots of knowledge in IT. I applied to NPower. It is unbelievable how much knowledge I have gained since I have been here. This program has given me much leverage in my nursing profession and will make me more marketable. I am very grateful for being one of the benefactors of NPower programs. I plan to continue to the next level with NPower as this is making a great impact in my life and career.

Upon exiting the United States Navy, I found myself going to school for Computer Network Management where that education plan turned into a Real Estate career. Over the years I have managed to start a team of agents who were very successful in the Texas Real Estate market. I then went on to receive a broker’s license in the state of Louisiana where I head a brokerage of 20 agents including myself that conduct business between multiple states. While looking to transition back into the technology field, I came across the opportunity with NPower from a Veteran Affairs representative when doing a vocational rehabilitation meeting. Since learning about this opportunity, it has been an amazing experience, and I have nothing but great things to say about the program.

I found my skills in the military didn't translate to civilian jobs so I attended and graduated from Control Data Inst. with the belief and confidence I would be able to start a career in the world of IT. I continued my education for a degree in Computer Science, in programming. I utilized resources with the Texas Workforce Commission in my pursuit of job placement where a veteran’s representative told me about the NPower program and the opportunities they are able to offer. I enrolled with high hopes, in the next available class where I have earned my ITF+ certification and have passed the first of two tests for A+ certification. The staff at NPower are very professional and dedicated to their endeavors of teaching and preparing veterans for a great career in IT. My goals are to secure a position with opportunities to utilize the education I have received to contribute to the Enterprise in meeting their goals and to be a viable team member towards those goals.

My wife found out about NPower at her work while she was networking. I found It hard to believe all that NPower was offering because it sounded too good to be true. I received a call from an NPower recruiter and enrolled soon after. I’d been working as a mechanic for nearly a decade. Joined the Army when I was still in high school and that was the start of my diesel mechanic experience. I found jobs in the automotive industry after the conclusion of my active duty contract easily, but I always had an interest in information technology. NPower is giving me a good foundation to really explore the possibilities in the IT industry all while providing me with professional development I was unaware that I could improve upon.

In 2010 I was working three jobs and still not making enough to support my family. Looking at my options I decided make a drastic life change and join the U.S. Marine Corps. I was honorably discharged with my family in 2016 with no future goals. While starting college I was nonchalantly introduced to a brochure about NPower. I mulled over it for days until I decided to give them a call. After hearing what NPower does for veterans AND their spouses, I decided to make another drastic life change and join their program. Entering the NPower program was one of the best decisions in my life. I am very grateful for the education, advice, and opportunities I have received through NPower. Without the NPower team I would not have the confidence I have now in finding careers in information technology. After graduation, I plan to broaden my horizon even more and enter the field of artificial intelligence.

I served four years active duty in the U.S. Navy as an Information Systems Technician sailor aboard the USS FOX (CG-33). After active duty, I rejoined the U.S. Navy Reserves JRB NAS Ft. Worth, TX. I served for 16 years with Staff Commander Seventh Fleet Detachment 111 aboard U.S.S. Blue Ridge (LCC-19) stationed on Yokosuka, Japan. During my reserve time I decided to further my education and earned an associate of applied science degree in electronic engineering technology at Mountain View College. I re-invented myself in the medical field by earning an associate of science in Biomedical/Imaging Technology as Texas State Technical College in 2005. I noticed a NPower brochure at the VA Medical Center of Dallas and decided to pursue an exciting opportunity in the IT field. The sky is the limit if I keep pushing 150% with my instructors and staff leading me in IT world of technology.

Prior to NPower, mortgage and finance jobs consumed my resume. As a working wife and mother, I was able to obtain a dual bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems and an associate’s of science degree. However, I quickly learned a degree was not enough to secure a job in the IT field which has always been my passion. I first learned about NPower while working in my last job at Citi talking to one of our security guards. I applied and was invited into the program right as I was let go from my employer. I truly believe it was fate that NPower called me at that time. As I stepped out on faith I never looked back. NPower enabled me to earn certifications in ITF+ as well as CompTIA A+ which is what’s expected by most corporations. They also went above and beyond with connecting Z us with a multitude of high-quality companies who were all in sync with assisting veterans and their spouses to obtain jobs. Anyone would think that this program sounds too good to be true but trust and believe that if you put in the time and effort, like I did, this experience through NPower will get you on the right track to your IT goals. Thank You NPower for this opportunity.

I joined the U.S Marines right after high school and I proudly served my country from 1992 to 1996. After my tour in the Marine Corps I transitioned into a career in cable television working as a service technician for various cable companies. After I left the cable industry I found a job as an inventory technician for a web-hosting company which introduced me to the world of computers. My managers and peers would tell me to pursue the CompTIA certifications but I never made the time to do so. I would apply for work in Information Technology but I never got hired simply because I didn’t know IT terminology or I didn’t have the certifications. In 2017 I was at a crossroads in my career and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After some honest evaluation and soul searching, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in Information Technology. In October 2019 I was promoted to IT Equipment Coordinator at Amazon and my manager told me about NPower. After researching online and reading the brochure I knew that NPower is what I needed to begin my career in Information Technology. The NPower program has repositioned my life in a very positive way. I am now motivated, inspired, and determined to continue my education in IT. I believe the knowledge that I gain from the A+ class and the professional development courses will provide the tools I need to advance in my career.

I was active with Wounded Warrior Project which introduced to NPower. I had an interest in the IT (Information Technology) World, because I wanted to join Homeland’s H.E.R.O program. I needed to educate myself in the field and figured NPower would be my best bet getting me fit for an IT career.

I joined the U.S. Army right after high school. My intentions were to go to college, but I couldn’t afford to at the time, so I decided to serve my country. That also allowed me the opportunity to pay for an education. After finishing my advanced training, I enjoyed being in the military and decided to make a career out of it. I served from 1979 until 1995 which at that time I took the early retirement. While in the military I got to live another dream and that was being a Drill Sergeant. After the military I became a Police Officer in Killeen, TX. While serving as a police officer I had the opportunity of making detective. After seven years in the Law Enforcement field, I was given the opportunity to take those skills and work overseas as a Police Trainer. From 2001–2016 I worked as a police trainer in Amman, Jordan; Iraq, and Afghanistan. In 2016 my contract ended, and I found myself unemployed, for the first time in years, so I went back to school. After graduating from Tarrant County College, I still could not find a job. One day while at the Texas Workforce Commission I learned about a workshop called Attitudes and Attire, so I decided to attend it. At that workshop I learned about NPower and decided to take this opportunity to learn computer technology. So far, I have completed the Coding course with NPower and plan to complete Tech Fundamentals in May 2020. Hopefully this will assist me in a career in the world of technology.

EMMANUEL OKWUOSA

U.S. ARMY SPOUSE

JOSE RAMIREZ U.S. NAVY

SERVED 4 YEARS

My story begins like this. My name is Emmanuel Okwuosa, I was born in Oguta a little in Imo state, Nigeria, where my veteran wife was born but we never knew each other. As a young man of 17 y/o I received a scholarship to Russia to study law. I obtained my first degree and masters in law with the intention of becoming a specialist in international trade. While studying I started a business selling women's jewelry and supplying soccer gears to some retailers in Nigeria and other African countries. I am the oldest of 7 children, therefore, I was expected to support my family financially to raise and train my younger siblings. I devoted my life as I knew it to ensure that my family was well taken care of. During this time I met my wife, a U.S. Army veteran of 8 years and we started a family. I suddenly had to rethink my life’s plan. With that, all I had in my hands was a puzzle to put together until my mother in law brought NPower to my attention. She gave me a synopsis of the NPower program available to veterans and their spouses. she informed me that I had to make the decision and be ready to go by Monday. I reluctantly agreed to go. Within the first few weeks it seemed like NPower is the answer to the puzzle I had at hand. So far NPower have exposed me to opportunities I needed but didn't know how to go about it. I would like to thank my mother in law, and the whole staff of NPower. They are making a positive impact in my life and the life of my family. Thanks to the woman that changed my life and for serving this great country.

I was born in Los Angeles, CA. when I was about 7 months old my parents move to Jalisco, Mexico, where I grew up and finished High school before moving back to the U.S. Once I was living in the U.S., I went to school to learn English and when I was comfortable with the language, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy. I served as a Logistics Specialist for 4 years and did 4 deployments. After the Navy I went to the Art Institute of Dallas where I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production. I have always been interested in technology and computers, but I have not had the change to go back to school and pursuit that interest. I was at the VA doing my yearly physical when I saw a poster about NPower, I saw that it was a free program for veterans and spouses to help us get entry level certifications. I applied for the program and so far it has been a great opportunity for me. Everyone in the staff is always willing to help in any form they can. I will recommend this program to every veteran and spouse that I know. I would like to thank NPower for this great opportunity.

I was a bit unsure about the program because I had previously failed an IT certification test before. I took a leap of faith and decided to apply for the program and was accepted. TERENCE SHELTON U.S. ARMY

SERVED 3 YEARS

MEMPHIS, TN

I entered the service in the Spring of 1998. I knew after high school I wanted to do something for my country. So, I joined the Army, where I spent 3 years of my young adult life serving as a combat soldier. After the military, in 2001 I returned home to Memphis where I obtained my barber license and became a Master Barber. I gave 17 years to the industry of barbering before I had to retire due to some injuries I suffered while in the military. That was a very hard time for me walking away from something that I love and gave a large portion of my life to. Nevertheless, there is always hope. After moving to Dallas, TX. I was introduced to a program called NPower. This program has pumped new life into me and has given me an opportunity to start a brand new career. Not knowing where your life is headed after disappointment. NPower was the lifeline of hope that introduced a new world to me called IT. With this opportunity, I believe that I will be able to accomplish all that I need as a man to provide for my family and their future. Thank you NPower!!!

PLANO, TX JOB IN MILITARY Career Counselor

I joined the Army 1989, and spent 23 years of my adult life serving in the Army. After being medically retired in 2012, and taking time to recover and reintegrate as a civilian. I spent much of my time in the Army, being of service to other Soldiers in the army. I wanted and needed to find a way to continue that desire. During this time I embarked on the venture of entrepreneurship focused on placing Veterans in homes. In this venture, I became aware that my technology knowledge was outdated and took the opportunity to enhance the skills that I obtained in the Army. While attending the local community college to acquire a Marketing certificate, I enrolled in the NPower program. I completed the Coding course and upon completion of that course I need to gain more knowledge to enhance my business. This experience will make me a good employee or an exceptional business owner.

JOB IN MILITARY Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Specialist

I joined the US army in 2012 and have been serving since then as a reservist. I have a bachelor’s degree in International Criminal Justice from the City University of New York. I have previously worked in multiple IT projects as an Automation Test Engineer. However, I was moving to different cities to work for different companies as a contractor. I was desperately looking for employment within the Dallas area. I heard about NPower through my friend (an NPower Alumni) and decided to join this great program. Although my previous experiences were mostly in software development, I am glad to take this opportunity as I am now enhancing my knowledge on a different area of the IT industry. I would like to thank NPower staff for providing a new avenue to the veterans and their spouses. I am hoping to launch a successful IT career through NPower in near future.

ATLANTA, GA JOB IN MILITARY Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Specialist/Officer

During my senior year of high school, I decided to join the Army to get money for college, to mature, and to escape a life with few options and many dead ends. The Army allowed me to achieve each of those goals while providing me with perspective, perseverance, and purpose. After my active duty service, I returned home with new goals. While serving as a member of the Texas Army National Guard, I worked to complete college, Officer Candidate School, and become a certified teacher in Texas. As a veteran serving in education, the opportunities to impact others were endless and the opportunities to be profoundly impacted by others were uplifting. I grew greatly as an educator in K–12 and higher education, yet, as a lifelong learner, decided that a new goal was in order. It was at this point that I found out about NPower Texas. It has been a challenging yet extremely rewarding experience being educated, served, encouraged, and inspired toward a new mission in the IT arena. Wherever it leads, I know that NPower Texas will be there on my journey.

DALLAS, TX JOB IN MILITARY Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist

Before the military, I grew up in Fort Worth, TX. I joined the USAF and loved every minute as a Jet Engine Mechanic. In Missouri, I worked on the B2-Bomber for 3 years and in Germany on F-16s for a year. When I got home, I changed oil for a few years and decided to go back to school. I got an A.S. in Computer Networking Systems in 2010 and worked for Dell for a few months. After that, I needed to make more money, so I took banking and different office positions until I ended up in Behavioral Health at the foremost Mental Health Authority in Tarrant County. I pursued that career for four years and decided it was time to get back in to IT. Then NPower came along and showed me how to do just that!

20

I enlisted at the age of 18 and served in the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist for 12 years. I obtained a Top-Secret Security Clearance. After leaving the service I have spent time working in customer service-based sales specialty positions. I graduated college with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science Computer Network Engineering. I started building computer systems from the Intel Pentium 60 onward, so Information Technology seemed like a natural fit for me. While applying for work and researching online for IT training, I ran across the NPower CompTIA training for Veterans and Veteran Spouses. When I read all of the testimonials and discovered it was totally free, including paying for the CompTIA Certification Exams, I was completely blown away. The Career Team/Technical Instructors at NPower Texas are true professionals and treat all of their student veterans with honor and respect. I have obtained the CompTIA ITF+ Certification and passed the CompTIA A+ 220-1001 Core 1 Exam. When the COVID-19 pandemic ensued and closed all the public schools, NPower stepped up and created a virtual learning program from scratch. We have not missed a beat. I am looking forward to getting into an Internship very soon. Thank you for everything you do NPower. I am truly motivated and inspired by what you do.

MUSKOGEE, OK JOB IN MILITARY Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Specialist/Officer

DALLAS, TX JOB IN MILITARY 11C indirect Fire Infantryman

Almost 15 years after retiring from the US Navy, I came to a crossroads in my career. I had not achieved the career advancement and fulfillment that I desired and knew I needed to take a giant leap of faith. I knew I would need more education. I also knew that I would need to develop better networking, resume writing and interviewing skills. I searched for an educational program that would provide both technical and professional development training. I saw a flyer for NPower and decided to investigate. Once I met Clifton Bland and realized that he and many of the NPower staff members were veterans, I knew they understood how difficult it can be for veterans to translate military experience into civilian careers. The past 6 months have been a life-altering experience for me. NPower is a world-class program that helps veterans succeed in today’s highly competitive business environment.

I honorably served 4.5 years active duty in the Army. After I separated, I always wanted to pursue my passion for computer and built my career in information technology field but I quickly realized that I don’t have any IT education or certification to add on to my resume that’s when I found NPower through a fellow veteran. This program has helped me to learn the technical skills, earn my ITF+ and A+ certifications and lots of hands on practical training in class. I am confident, with all the knowledge I have gained from NPower, my bachelor’s degree and my military experience would help me further my career into the IT industry. I am thankful to the NPower team for all the help and support.

DALLAS, TX JOB IN MILITARY Sensor Support Man

As a military spouse, I had to move a lot and never had an opportunity to find a long-term career. After separation from the army, I along with my family moved to Texas. I already had a Bachelor’s degree in Biology but I wanted to pursue my passion for Information Technology that’s when I found NPower through a veteran friend. I loved their concept and immediately enrolled in tech fundamentals program and since then NPower has helped me gain knowledge on basic IT concepts, technical skills, helped me connect with IT professionals and imminent employers as well. I am thankful to the NPower team specially my instructors who were there to help us anytime. With all the knowledge from my Bachelor’s degree, my previous experiences and certifications I gained here, I am sure that I will fulfill my career as an IT professional soon.

Before NPower, I worked as a security guard at Citibank. Every day that I worked at the front desk I checked in all sorts of people from different IT companies and different vendors into our system. Eventually, I ran across a gentleman who I was checking in that later became like a mentor to me. He introduced me to the idea of IT and we looked at the different routes I could take for employment. It was perfect timing that I learned about NPower through a friend that is employed through Citi. Initially, It sounded too good to be true. I was told it was free and all I needed was my DD-214. Fast forward it has been nothing but a great learning environment and an amazing experience. Thanks to NPower I have met some great people and connected with a handful of resourceful individuals that can help further my learning and success in the IT field.

Served four years active duty in United States Marine Corps in Radio Communications in both field and communications battalions. After various employment and career positions in Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design, I have spent the last 10 years exclusively as a contractor in the Telecommunications Wireless Field Engineer, and Low Voltage Cabling arenas specifically as a road warrior nationwide on 2G thru 5G projects. Seeking a career change and desire to employ locally I was informed of the NPower program opportunity through Texas Workforce Veterans Commission offered to Military Veterans in situations like myself. NPower offers my the opportunity to REBUILD by total collective IT skills, RENEW old IT certifications, and REBRAND myself to create the best version of me to achieve my desired career employment and IT goals. I look forward to taking my polished updated skills and learned resources from NPower to successfully add value, service and integrity to my new potential employer(s) while gaining the confidence of my peers. NPower you are truly life changers and I look forward to networking in the future with NPower as Alumni (and friends) to continue uplifting and assisting other veterans and spouses for many years to come.
