I joined the U.S. Marine Corps after one year of college. In my second semester of college, I felt like I needed a break and enlisted at age 19. After my discharge, I returned to college as well as worked as a security officer. That is when I met an alumna of NPower. I was already pursuing my degree in information systems and decided to get a head start in my career. I have never looked back since I began the program. The NPower team taught me a great deal about computers in a short time. I am grateful that I stumbled across NPower since they assisted me in getting started in my profession!

I joined the military right out of high school since I was eager to start life! In electronics, we learned much… and then nothing. I left the military and went to college, struggling the entire time to make ends meet and catch up with peers seemingly doing great. I graduated in 2.5 years and ended up with a great career in wireless technologies, until a layoff messed up my plans. With NPower, I was able to begin charting a career in a completely new direction. With the doors opened because of the placement team’s efforts, I feel good about myself, and I will pay it forward.

Before and after joining the Army, I worked manual labor jobs, since I could never see myself working behind a desk. As a person who always had an interest in tech, I began to change my thoughts about working behind a desk. Flash forward to many jobs, a degree in public health, and the passion to be in a career working with technology. Then NPower came into the picture. At first, I didn’t think it could be real, because it was free. Upon more research, I decided to apply, and 16 weeks later I landed an apprenticeship. I cannot give enough thanks; this program is unbelievably good for veterans looking for a career change or to jumpstart their careers in tech.

DALLAS, TX INTERNSHIP Citibank JOB IN MILITARY Bradley Mechanic DECORATIONS Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal

I served eight years in the Army Reserves as a petroleum supply and IT specialist. After completing basics and my advanced studies, I returned to civilian life and worked in various positions within healthcare, insurance, and retail. These jobs were not what I longed for—an essential career. I always had a desire to work in IT, but the college route was impossible due to money. NPower was a great environment that not only provided me the tools to gain the appropriate knowledge and certifications to help my full transition in the IT sector, but also gave me an ever-growing foundation. NPower has been a major player in my journey, and I honestly can’t thank them enough from their relentless efforts and the support of my peers to make this experience one to never forget!

I joined the Army after struggling to decide on a career path. I was already in the National Guard and knew that I enjoyed being a soldier, so it was an easy decision to switch to active duty. After the Army, I went to school and received my associate’s degree in electrical engineering. Failing to find a fitting opportunity left me in limbo. I spoke with a colleague about a program he was joining called NPower. I did my due diligence and decided to reach out. What followed was nothing short of a blessing! I had no IT experience, and now I have the knowledge and skills to catapult my IT journey. NPower not only wants to see me succeed, but they also truly care that I do. I am extremely thankful to NPower for putting me in a great position to win while on my IT career path! TECH FUNDAMENTALS | SPRING 2021

Before COVID, I was a mathematics paraprofessional at a local middle school. Once the pandemic started and schools were closing, I could no longer work. During that time, I came across a VA email containing information about NPower. I always knew I wanted to combine my mathematical experience with technology. Today, I am inspired to expand my data analytics skills with the Tech Fundamentals Program. Not only did NPower allow me to grow and gain CompTIA certifications, but they also connected me with an amazing apprenticeship. Before NPower, I was confused about my next steps. After NPower, I have clear goals and ambition, as well as the knowledge about how to get there!

I joined the U.S. Army after completing my MBA in information systems management. I was an immigrant who spoke a foreign language that was vital to the U.S. national interest, so I signed up as a military nurse. After my time in the military ended, I found NPower through networking because I wanted to switch careers to IT. I’ve always had an interest in IT but never actively pursued formal learning. I’ve had experience as a business analyst for a tech firm, but no real IT experience. My time at NPower has been the most valuable part of my career switch because it provided an opportunity through an apprenticeship with Citi for me to start a career. I work with a team of seasoned professionals, and I’m confident that my journey into a cloud computing career has begun!

I am from Brooklyn, NY. First, I love the Lord and have been a Christian for 22 years. I volunteer at church as a deacon supervising other deacons. I am happily married, with nine children and 10 grandchildren. Over the years I have held several different positions: generator mechanic in the Army, contractor overseas, foster parent, and sales associate at 7-Eleven and Target. I am currently a logistics specialist at Mouser Electronics. I have always wanted to learn about technology and computer repair. That desire led me to NPower. With my new skills, I am ready to start a career in IT!

I have served in the Army Reserves for 13 years as a nurse and medic. I have deployed twice and have been on three missions. I have always been interested in tinkering with computers and learning about different software uses and installations. I learned about NPower from a fellow soldier. I didn’t apply right away because the program sounded too good to be true. Who offers a free education and then helps you find a job—with no strings attached? When I finally decided to apply, I didn’t think I had the proper skillset because most of my experience had been with online gaming. Since going through the program, I have a solid foundation in working with computers and have been placed as an intern with a good chance of being brought on as a full-time employee. None of this would have been possible without NPower. I am profoundly grateful!

I found NPower while job searching online and was skeptical at first; it was free, while most IT programs I found charged money or required utilizing my 9/11 G.I. Bill. Joining NPower with prior IT experience helped further my growth and motivation to remain in the industry. NPower gave me another chance to keep pushing for the career I want and helped me get an internship that has been a dream come true!
