“Remember your dreams and fight for them. You must know what you want from life. There is just one thing that makes your dream become impossible: the fear of failure.” —Paulo Coelho Before NPower, I had just graduated from high school and was hesitant to consider college because it was costly. I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in technology. I came across NPower when my counselor gave me a flier knowing my interest in technology. It did not take me long to decide to join because it was a free opportunity. My time at NPower not only taught me about hardware, networking and software, but it also pushed me out of my comfort zone. I learned how to communicate and work in a professional environment.

My interest in technology has been prevalent for most of my life. I have had many opportunities to gain knowledge in IT, but at NPower I was finally able to focus on it. Before the program, I was in California attempting to live a life beyond my means. My mother found out about their IT training classes and asked me to move back to St. Louis to get the skills I need to live the way that I want. After NPower, I plan to obtain more IT certifications and create a better life for myself and my family.

COMPTIA IT FUNDAMENTALS+ CERTIFIED HIRED Boeing Before NPower, I had lost my way. I was newly married and expecting my second child. I worked a simple, mind-numbing job making two dollars above minimum wage and spent every day hoping for a $.50 raise that I knew would never come. I felt helpless and was constantly disappointed that my family’s future depended on the decisions of people that could care less about me. A co-worker overheard me talking about my love for building gaming computers and recommended NPower to me. This program changed my life. I’ve learned the only way to be successful is to take advantage of the opportunities around me. I know the journey won’t be easy, but thanks to NPower, my family’s future is finally in my hands. After I graduate, I plan to pursue a career as a computer repair technician. This is the first step. But now with each step I take, I know that I am on my way to being successful and empowered!

Before NPower, I did not have any real professional direction. I always had a knack for technology and my family would tell me I was skillful with hands-on projects. But I knew working at the car wash wasn’t using my full potential. My aunt told me about NPower and how I could learn more about IT. I was immediately interested. As soon as I joined, I liked it. My time at NPower made me feel like I was doing something with my life and finally had direction. I enjoyed troubleshooting computers and programming. I want this to be a stepping stone towards a career in cybersecurity. After graduation, I hope to obtain advanced certifications and develop the skills I need to succeed in the industry.

Before NPower, I did not know where my life was headed. I was trying to live my life the right way and stay away from my past troubles. Since there is no handbook or tutorial on how to navigate life, I was confused and did not have much direction. I was interested in technology as a kid and used to watch my brothers fix phones and computers at home. My brothers introduced me to NPower and were excited when the three of us got accepted into the program. My favorite NPower experience was how well our class connected with each another. After I graduate, I plan to further my education in IT and earn more certifications. I plan to find different ways to give back to my neighborhood in North St. Louis. I want to show the kids how to use their intellect to avoid dangerous situations and make smart decisions.

I was surprised to learn how many people found success and launched corporate IT careers by earning certifications. I am really honored and pleased to be a part of this program because it expanded my knowledge of careers in technology. After graduation, I plan to become an IT architect and obtain more certifications.

COMPTIA IT FUNDAMENTALS+ CERTIFIED INTERNSHIP World Wide Technology I was working as a full-time server at Magnolia Hotel, before joining the NPower program. I developed a passion for technology the more I played video games. I learned about NPower when representatives visited my class. NPower has broadened my insight into other IT careers paths, aside from game design. My favorite part of the program was meeting new people. I learned many technical skills. I hope to turn my internship into a full-time position and eventually make my dream of starting a gaming company become reality.

Before NPower, I was working as a Sprint cell phone technician. There, I discovered how much I loved working with technology and people. I had a desire to learn much more than cell phone repair. My best friend, a systems administrator for Zero Day Technology Solutions, introduced me to NPower. I tried to self-study for the CompTIA A+ certification and realized I needed support. I was drawn to NPower’s hands-on learning approach. We worked with computer programs to fully understand their systems and how to resolve issues. I have a goal of obtaining 15 certifications in 5 years. I am not yet certain of my career path, but the beauty of technology is that the possibilities are endless, thanks to my foundation at NPower.

Growing up, I always had an interest in technology. During my spare time, I would play video games or browse the internet. I never thought about having a career in IT, but started seeing the possibilities. Before NPower, I was job searching and unsure about my path in life. One of my friends introduced me to the program and it seemed like a great opportunity. I learned both technical and professional skills. I also met new people and made friends. From day one, I had an instant connection with my classmates. Their ambition and positivity encouraged me to finish the program. The professional development days really helped me learn how to present myself, professionally. The staff is amazing! They challenged me and reminded me of my goals. I am very thankful for their time. I would recommend this program to anyone. After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in technology and obtain additional certifications to further my career.

COMPTIA IT FUNDAMENTALS+ CERTIFIED INTERNSHIP  World Wide Technology Prior to NPower, I was a UPS package handler. I had many interests and could not figure out what I wanted to pursue as a career. I developed a passion for technology through fixing malfunctions in my personal computer. I was also interested in combining business with IT. I discovered NPower through my advisor at SLATE. NPower has helped me grow professionally, and increased my understanding of technical terminology. My favorite part of the program was learning more about others and myself in team projects. Without NPower, I would still be trying to figure out my career path. This program helped me create a roadmap for my future and I am blessed to have found it. After graduation, I plan to pursue my A+ and Security+ certifications. I plan to launch an online tech business by 2025. The knowledge I have obtained from this program will allow me to make my mark in IT for years to come.
