Stephanie has worked in the Information Technology field, spanning a three-decade career across several Fortune 500 companies. She joined EY in 2014 starting her journey leading the Global Converged Services Management team in IT, which was responsible for several functions including operational responsibility and oversight of the global production data and perimeter network, Collaboration Services technology infrastructure including voice and video services, End User Technology Operations including messaging platform support, connectivity for our cloud providers (O365, Lync, Rackspace, Azure) and Fraud Investigation and Dispute Service infrastructure driving timely remediation of infrastructure incidents across diverse global organizational structure. In December of 2018, Stephanie took on a role in the Client Service Operations team within the Client Technology organization leading operational support for shared business platforms and our client technology platform for external clients, including RPAaaS, Analytics, etc.

At EY, Stephanie has been a passionate advocate for diversity in the workplace, and was appointed to serve as a Diversity and Inclusiveness champion for EY Technology. In addition, Stephanie has worked to bring focus on the importance of gender equity and is co-leading a program at EY to promote the advancement of Women in Technology, targeting recruitment efforts, personnel development and advocacy as well as tackling unconscious bias in the workplace. Stephanie is also Co-Chair of the Americas Unity professional network steering committee to support and promote an LGBT+-inclusive culture at EY. She is currently facilitating the introduction of a new Ally program with gamification to encourage self-identification, ally involvement and knowledge sharing. Stephanie currently resides in Chester, New York with her wife, Maureen and their furry son, Mo.

NPower New Jersey, Tech Fundamentals Spring 2017 Hospital Corpsman Second Class Petty Officer, US Navy Reserves

Abena Charles is an alumna of NPower NJâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Spring 2017 cohort. Abena is currently serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves, where she is a hospital corpsman second class petty officer. Through NPower, Abena obtained her CompTIA A+ certification and interned at Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and New Jersey. While interning, Abena was a help desk technician, responsible for: hardware repair, networking, IT customer service, foundations of software management and information security management. After completing her internship, she was hired as a business requirement analyst at Goodwill Industries. In this role, Abena had the opportunity to problem solve, brainstorm with stakeholders, gather business requirements for projects and work closely with the project management team. In October 2017, Abena deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with the Navy Reserves for 12 months. While there, Abena was a supply chain manager, where she managed an operational budget of $1.6M, served as liaison between a naval hospital and operational departments, oversaw inventory management and implemented new research procedures to enhance efficiency. Upon returning to the US, Goodwill Industries promoted Abena to her current role as an incident manager. In this position, she manages IT resources: including application management, operations, networking, security, retail and purchasing, that provide support for 1500 employees at 42 stores and eight program site locations. Abena also serves as a liaison between Goodwill Industries and ServiceNow to ensure continuous quality improvement as well as SLA and scheduling supervision. Abena is currently pursuing a bachelor of science degree in applied management at Grand Canyon University, which she will complete in September 2019. In the future, Abena plans to pursue the CompTIA Security+ certification as well as her masterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s degree in cybersecurity, which she plans to apply to her Naval career with the goal of becoming a cyber warfare engineer officer or crytologic warfare officer.

Before NPower, I was pursuing a music performance degree. I realized that I wasn’t spending my time practicing music but instead working on coding projects I had been assigned in class. I decided a career in IT was something that would make me much happier. My father spoke to me about NPower and how the program helped him improve his knowledge of the IT field. Enrolling in the program was one of the best choices I have made and I learned more about the IT field outside of coding. All of the staff provided a helping hand when needed. After NPower, my plan is to further my education in the IT field, to work full-time to expand my knowledge through experience and continue earning certifications through self-study.

Thanks to NPower, he found success and happiness in his career and I thought I could have the same experience. I moved to the United States in 2018 where I met a friend who was working in STEM and told me about NPower. I knew this opportunity could help me jumpstart my IT career. NPower has helped me transition into the technology field by offering the technical skills, connections, and professional exposure. NPower has delivered on every promise made.

After my enlistment, I went back to college to pursue a criminal justice degree to transition to a career in law enforcement. Due to outside circumstances, I was unable to continue. I started working for Starbucks and was there for over seven years, until I was laid off. The Veteran Job Outreach Program introduced me to NPower. I had initial reservations about the program because it was a different career path, but I soon realized I could do more than kick doors in and fire a weapon. This program has been wonderful and has given me more opportunities to create a better life and a new career. I’m excited about the future and look forward to growing personally and professionally.

I decided to enlist into the U.S. Air Force. Fast forward six years, I had completed my contract and was ready to embark on wherever life would take me next. While at the Veteran Affairs Hospital, I came across a brochure for NPower and a voice in my head told me that I must enroll. From the initial interview process, I knew that this was where I wanted to be. NPower provides more than just education. I grew kinship with all my classmates and staff members, similar to the camaraderie you would find in the military. They made IT so easy to grasp and empowered me with the tools to succeed in the civilian sector. Now, I work at Chubb Insurance as their IT logistics specialist. I studied on my own to obtain a CompTIA A+ certification but stopped due an unexpected pregnancy. After working as a cashier for over six years, I knew my son deserved better. I saw a Craigslist ad about NPower and it seemed too good to be true. I decided to give it a try and that was the best decision I have ever made. Before my NPower interview, I was laid off and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. I was able to entirely focus on the NPower program while taking online college classes. NPower gave me a better understanding of the IT industry. I feel much more confident about my career and my future. I now tell all of my friends and post on social media about NPower’s impact. Without Npower, I probably would still be a cashier, barely making ends meet, but now I am a UX designer. I am forever thankful!

The program was really helpful in providing the skills necessary to transition into an IT professional, from: mock interviewing, writing a resume, conducting a presentation and setting up a LinkedIn profile. Becoming certified was validation of the skills gained throughout the program. I am looking forward to securing an internship where I can apply all the skills and knowledge I have gained.
