INTERNSHIP Citi Before NPower, I was working two jobs and decided to look for IT or software development boot camps. You can imagine how surprised I was to find a tuition-free program right here in New York that offered a paid internship, professional development, company site visits and career support! Next, I will pursue my CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications to prepare for a career as a cybersecurity analyst.

INTERNSHIP ASCAP Before NPower, I couldn’t find solid work. I was fed up with being a waitress and desperately wanted out. I wanted to apply my skill set to a field that I’ve always had a deep passion for, which is technology. My hunger for a better opportunity led me to NPower. Since joining the program, I’ve gained a strong understanding of professionalism and technical skills in solving hardware and software issues. Coming from an underserved neighborhood in Chicago, NPower and its staff changed my life. I have sincere gratitude for each staff member that took the time to listen, tutor me after class, and provide excellent support. I plan to continue my education by taking the cybersecurity course that NPower offers. I hope I will be able to inspire others, just as NPower has inspired me.

Before NPower, I was working for a small construction company which required me to be on the road and working long hours. Over time, I decided to look for something more stable. I was always interested in working with technology. I heard about NPower and their certification process from a friend who is an alumnus. I became very excited and applied. Since joining NPower, I have completed my CompTIA A+ certification and developed many technical skills. The staff, as well as the instructors, helped me develop many professional skills including networking, interviewing techniques and wearing the proper business attire. After graduation, I would like to work as a helpdesk technician and gain further certifications. In the long-term, I hope to achieve my goal to become a project manager for an IT firm.

Before coming to NPower, I was working in sales and technology repair. I had always been interested in technology and was looking for a job more digitally-centered position. A friend informed me about NPower and how it improved his life, so I decided to apply. My experience very much mirrored my friend’s, in that I gained skills that will help me navigate the corporate world, along with getting my A+ certification. I also acquired a network of friends to grow with into the future. I want to continue on my journey of improving myself and my skills in technology to achieve my goal of finding a job where I can grow.

INTERNSHIP PS 282 Before NPower, I was letting time pass while working for an industry that offered little and slow growth. Thankfully, I stumbled upon NPower. I was always interested in technology, but I didn’t have any plans to make it a career. Lucky for me, two good friends of mine graduated from the program and raved about how great it was. Seeing how much the program impacted their lives, I decided to see if NPower and IT field was right for me. While at NPower, I’ve developed a plethora of skills that will continue to benefit me outside the program, not only in business but in life. I loved everything about the NPower experience; I enjoyed all the people I’ve met and appreciated all the connections I wouldn’t have made if I hadn’t enrolled. Next, I would like to polish my skills, work on my Network + and CySA certifications. After that, I would love to do penetrative testing for a progressive company like Google or Palo Alto. Ultimately, my goal is to open my own business and work with companies like NPower to give opportunities to people like me who need it.

Before NPower, I was pursuing a degree in biology while working as an after-school teacher. I took a SQL course with a colleague and realized how much I enjoyed working with data and technology. Shortly after, I found out about NPower from an alumnus and decided to apply. Thanks to NPower I am now CompTIA A+ certified and have developed strong technical skills that will help me succeed at my internship with Citi. I hope to get my Network+ certification, expand my professional network, and pursue a career in database administration. I also hope to be a mentor, so I can assist more women to enter technical roles.
INTERNSHIP New York City Criminal Justice Agency Before coming to NPower, I was working from home, feeling like I needed a change. When I heard about NPower, I knew this was something I wanted to do. I always loved computers, but I never thought I could make it a career. Being at NPower has taught me a lot about tech that I didn’t know and gave me the opportunity to make new friends who are interested in the same thing as me. I’ve also learned valuable skills that will help me in any professional environment. My experience here at NPower has been life-changing.

After noticing a positive change in my friend who completed the program, and seeing the opportunities he was getting, I decided to apply to NPower myself. While at NPower I was able to learn a lot about both hardware and software, giving me a grasp on the IT world and helping me get my CompTIA A+ certification. It took much work and was stressful at times, but I am glad for the experience. Before NPower I was working in a restaurant as a line cook, trying to become a sous chef. I’ve always had a love for technology, but since I did not finish college, I settled for the restaurant industry. One day I was looking online when I found a CompTIA A+ certificate program from NPower. I did not know what to expect from the program until after a few weeks. NPower was not only a class about technology but taught me soft skills to use in a corporate environment as well. Being here at NPower improved my technical skills, professional and networking skills. It’s incredible to recognize how much I improved since the beginning of class, all thanks to the instructors and my classmates. With support from NPower, I feel prepared to take on the future work and challenges I will face in my life. My goal after NPower is to go in a field where I can use coding to create something for a company or people of the world.

Before NPower, I was at a job-readiness internship program which gave me the chance to work as a helpdesk intern, and after I found that I enjoyed the work, my supervisor told me about NPower. I was skeptical because I didn’t think I needed the CompTIA A+ certificate to advance. I thought college degrees were all that mattered in IT. In addition to gaining my certification, I have developed the skills to communicate technical topics and learned to use constructive criticism to better myself. I want to pursue the NPower cybersecurity program so I can become a network administrator.

INTERNSHIP Citi Before NPower, I was working in retail full-time. I was always interested in tech and took a few courses, but the textbooks were dense. I was looking for something more hands-on. Getting my CompTIA A+ certification has shown me that hard work pays off. Going forward, I hope to pursue more certifications and a career in cybersecurity.

Before NPower, I was searching for a job as well as colleges. I would do small jobs here and there to get by. I discovered I wanted to become a software architect. I decided to look for tech programs that could help me get a jumpstart in my career. Nearly all of my technical skills were learned at NPower since I had no prior knowledge or experience. NPower also helped sharpen my professional skills further. My experience at NPower was great, and the instructors are fantastic. I met wonderful people who have goals of their own and are all driven to succeed no matter what. I’m looking to get some experience in tech while taking steps to get into cybersecurity. Long term, I want to become a software architect and gain expertise in cyber for major companies like Dell, Microsoft, or Google.
INTERNSHIP St. John’s Bread and Life Before NPower, I was working as a senior digital artist. As a digital designer, I was always around computer graphics, and I thought having a certificate would widen my options. Having to pay for my tuition out of pocket while working part-time at a pharmacy, I didn’t have the luxury to start my degree over again. After a friend introduced me to NPower, I put a hold on starting my job search process and decided to join. Having worked with and played around with computers since childhood, I have always had an interest in the IT field but never thought to pursue it as a career. Before NPower, I was working a part-time job that felt like it was going nowhere. I heard about NPower through a good friend who graduated from an earlier class. I had heard such great things about NPower, and what they teach and provide their students to succeed in the tech world. In a way, NPower is what drew me into the IT field. Through NPower, I have gained and fine-tuned my professional and technical skills. NPower has provided me with a better sense of confidence when it comes to public speaking as well as how to engage people professionally in addition to teaching me hardware logistics and complex troubleshooting. I’m currently looking forward to completing my internship with Citi. After graduation, I hope to earn more certifications that will land me in a position where I’ll be working on cybersecurity with Salesforce or Bank of America.

My friends introduced me to NPower, which offered me a chance to change my career and pursue my passion. My instructors taught the class without being dull or dry. NPower helped me gain confidence in networking with professionals and discover what it’s like to work for big companies. After graduating from the program, I would like to gain more experience within the IT industry as helpdesk support. I believe there are no shortcuts in life. I would like to work within cloud at a big company such as Deloitte. I appreciate the NPower staff for their hard work and believing in us as students. I was looking for a job in the tech field when I saw an NPower posting on Craigslist. I was always drawn to the IT field but never had an opportunity to know how, or where to start. I have developed various technical skills to be more productive. I know what an OSI model is, subnet mask, ports and protocols, and so much more. It has made me feel comfortable to fiddle with more tech devices and learn new skills. What I would like to do next is tackle the cybersecurity field and broaden my knowledge in the field of IT. I don’t have a dream company, but working for a big company like Amazon, Google, or Tesla would be pretty cool to see how they operate. My big dream would be to become a CIO of a large company—or even my own.

I’ve grown tremendously in this program while learning new technical skills and professional skills. My public speaking, interviewing, and professional dressing skills have improved a lot. I have learned how computers function and went on multiple site visits to the Empire State Building, Microsoft and Deloitte, to name a few. I applied to NPower to gain a better understanding of IT. Before NPower, I knew nothing of professionalism and how to conduct myself in a corporate environment. Before NPower, I was aiming to become a patient care technician and working at a small endocrinology clinic as a scribe. As the most tech-savvy employee, I was always looked to for troubleshooting hardware and software. I applied to NPower after a colleague who attended another technology training program noticed my efforts and informed me that there are many opportunities in IT, especially for someone as talented as myself. I took his advice and started taking a technology career more seriously, and I’m eager to explore new possibilities. I enjoyed networking with all of the talented individuals of my class, and my journey at NPower taught me a lot about the destination.

Before enrolling in NPower, I was directionless and low on energy. I got back on my feet and started Googling for tech programs, among which NPower resonated the most because it offered a foundation that I could build upon in a tight-knit community. NPower provided me with plenty of opportunities to listen to the stories of other IT professionals, which helped me envision myself in the future as being an IT professional as well. I have learned to frame my mind in a specific way to better prepare myself for prospects along with becoming more of a professional. After NPower, I wish to further my education by either applying for the cybersecurity program or a tech boot-camp as well as gaining entry-level work experience.

INTERNSHIP KPMG I was a security technician for just over two years before I heard about NPower from a close friend who suggested that I enroll in the Tech Fundamentals program. Throughout my time in this program, the thing that had the most significant impact on me was the networking resources that were available to us. I can honestly say that I’ve made relationships here that I know will grow throughout my life. Thanks to all the support, I’ve found a passion in pursuing a career as a network and security specialist, and I’m excited for what lies ahead.

Before the Tech Fundamentals program, I was working in healthcare and wanted the opportunity to expand my career options. I heard about NPower through an acquaintance, and I knew that the program would help me reach my goal of doing cybersecurity in healthcare. Through NPower, I’ve become CompTIA A+ certified and have been able to expand my knowledge in technology. I currently plan on pursuing both my Network+ & Security+ so that I can further establish myself. After NPower, I will continue working towards doing cybersecurity in healthcare by gaining experience in IT, in a medical center, so that I can be better prepared for the journey that awaits ahead of me.

Before starting the Tech Fundamentals program with NPower, I was working as a doorman and was very dissatisfied with how I was doing career-wise. A friend of mine who was also interested in technology knew I was looking to get a job in IT and recommended that I check NPower out. During my time at NPower, I have made many meaningful connections and have gained experiences that wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for the program. My time here has taught me the value of committing to a goal, the value of time management and that I can accomplish whatever goals I set for myself. A part of my commitment to the program meant that I had to change my schedule and adjust my social life a lot; managing my fulltime job and class was the most challenging part of the entire process. Upon graduating, I will like to work and gain experience as a technician, finish college and then work as an IT publicist.
INTERNSHIP Citi Before the Tech Fundamentals program, I was working in various retail jobs, unhappy and had no plan for bettering my life. I always enjoyed technology: the ins and outs, the ways it was changing the world, and how it made my life better and easier. A friend of mine who graduated from class a few years ago introduced me to NPower. The program taught me about myself, helped me broaden my knowledge, and showed me that I could achieve my dream of becoming a cybersecurity analyst. With support from a new found family at NPower, sacrificing my personal life, and handling class while working, I’ve created a better version of me. After graduation, I look forward to developing my skills more thoroughly, gaining my certifications, and achieving that dream of becoming a cybersecurity analyst.

Before joining the Tech Fundamentals program, I had just moved back to the United States from Thailand with no clue as to what was happening next in my life. I thought that I was going to be on the hunt for a job that I knew would be unfulfilling. I came across NPower at a career fair, and it immediately caught my attention. I always wanted to be technologically literate, and I wanted to challenge myself. Technology would embed me into a culture of growth and movement; I knew that this would be a fantastic opportunity. I have received an infinite amount of support at NPower. Not only have I improved my technical abilities, but I’ve also developed my soft skills. I struggled greatly with networking and time management, but NPower has provided exceptional resources that have helped me tremendously. Once completing the program, I intend to continue my studies in cybersecurity all the while enhancing my skills.

For the past few years, I have had the opportunity to do freelance social media marketing work. During my time at work, I would run into technical troubleshooting issues, and it would slow down the work day where I couldn’t be as productive. I wanted to further my education, but I didn’t think it would in the IT industry. I came across a news article about NPower on social media, and after doing some research, I found that NPower provided individuals the opportunity to get an education within an industry that is always growing and looking for new talent. NPower has been very supportive in many aspects, like preparing students for a professional work setting, providing materials needed to be certified, and has pushed me not to give up or settle. I hope to go further and pursue a career in networks. After graduation, I would like to get my Network+ and become an information technology manager, but before this, I would like to continue to work on what I have learned in NPower and apply it to real-world events.
INTERNSHIP SCAN NY Before I started the Tech Fundamentals program with NPower, I worked at Staples as a sales associate and had a short internship as a QA analyst through another program. I chose to apply to NPower because of my interest in computers, and I felt that NPower would be an excellent introduction to the IT field. What I liked most as a student here was learning the different areas of the tech industry and the professional opportunities available. My biggest challenge was forcing myself to wake up early in the morning, however over time I got used to it. The most significant change I had to make was leaving my job with Staples to prioritize class with NPower. After I complete the Tech Fundamentals program, I plan I am going for my Network+ and Security+ certifications to try to become a cyber security analyst.

I was a cooking instructor, teaching cultural cooking classes to students at nearby colleges in upstate New York before Tech Fundamentals. Although food has been an interest of mine, technology has always been my first passion. I heard about NPower when a representative came to an internship program I participated in called Futures and Options. When the representative explained how NPower offered IT training with the opportunity to get certified, I immediately wanted to join. At NPower, I gained hands-on experience with software, programming, and learning how to disable devices. I also got familiar with tech language used in the field. The resume building session, professional workshops, and work-sites visits have sparked an interest in me to get into cybersecurity. Now that I have completed this program I will further my education by earning a bachelor’s degree in IT. Later on in my path I one day plan to combine my skills with technology and food by creating my food network.
CONGRATULATIONS HARLEM!
