Audric Adarme U.S. Navy Reserves Anaheim, CA

Before NPower I was working full time at a corporate office where I was given plenty of experiences: providing customer service, processing payments, keeping logs, and organizing data. I also serve in US Navy reserves where I perform my current duties as an information and communication manager to which I also oversee training requirements for each personnel, making sure our unit is on top of everything and always ready. I felt that my life came to a point where I felt stuck in life: there was no potential growth that could happen. On top of that realization, I found myself placing an action towards a goal, which was to pursue Cybersecurity and it caused me to have this burning fire within me to accomplish this newfound dream I see myself in because of the exponential amount of growth you can achieve. I then decided to enroll in NPower to help me drive to success. Having this experience has made me so proud of myself because I got myself to where I am today. Lastly, from how I’ve gone through life to where I am today, I see myself achieve greater things in a year, and achieve more in the following years; I can see myself get closer to my dreams and achieve the list of goals I have before I hit twenty seven years old.

Prior to NPower, I was a full-time student in my junior year at a university studying computer science. I was worried about my career choice because of self-doubts I had stemming from my rough upbringing, and this led to a loss of motivation and burnout. I was introduced to NPower by my brother who stumbled upon an online flyer for the program and thought it would be a great opportunity for me to consider. During my time at NPower, I was able to study the broad field of information technology, work in meaningful labs, and earn four IT certifications. After graduation, I plan to score an internship in cyber security over the summer and use the free resources provided to me by NPower to pick up new skills such as learning command-line and new programming languages. I also plan to use this newfound confidence to finish my degree strong and continue my journey in tech.

Before learning about NPower, I was a college dropout who struggled to navigate the educational system as a first-generation student. No longer able to afford college, I felt hopeless and depressed. I have always been interested in technology but needed more confidence to pursue it. I came across NPower through social media, where my life turned a 360. I hope to get technical training in the IT field and one day land my very first tech job.

Barnes U.S. Army

Prior to NPower, I served 24-plus years in the Army as an intelligence and logistician officer. After active duty, I spent 18 years in corporate America in operational management and business development roles. Throughout my career, I’ve held deep appreciation and admiration for IT professionals rewarding and challenging careers. I considered transitioning into IT several times but was hesitant due to my lack of a technical background. Fortunately, I learned of a long-awaited opportunity to gain high in-demand IT skills with NPower from a VA Newsletter. My time at NPower has facilitated my ability to rapidly acquire industry knowledge, hands-on experience, and mentorship in a well-executed fashion. After graduation, I plan to leverage the strong foundation established combined with the confidence gained to thrive in virtually any entry-level IT role across multiple industries. Thanks to NPower, I am well-prepared for a successful career!

Before NPower I had always wanted to break into tech but did not know how. What brought me to NPower was an email from my community college's counselor. NPower taught me very useful skills and it taught me a lot about IT and computers. With the help of NPower, I was also able to obtain multiple IT certifications, such as Google IT support, CompTIA ITF+, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft 365 certificate. Furthermore, NPower also helped me polish and refine my resume, improve my public speaking and interview skills. After the NPower program, I plan to finish my bachelor's degree. After I finish my bachelor's degree I plan to use the knowledge and certificates I earned at NPower, coupled with my education to land a job in software engineering. I am also interested in enrolling in one of NPower's advanced programs because I have sparked an interest in both cyber security and cloud computing. I would particularly like to work at Amazon, Google, Reddit, or Palantir.

Prior to NPower, I had been bouncing around from job to job, mostly in warehouses and manufacturing plants. I knew I had to make a career change after the birth of my beautiful baby girl. Although I have always been interested in the tech field, I never quite got the opportunity to explore career options. While scrolling through Tik Tok, I saw an ad for NPower and I knew this was my chance to make a change. During the program I gained new, valuable information about the tech field. During professional development, I received resume assistance and gained knowledge on how to network in a professional setting. The PD instructors helped cultivate a more positive, and optimistic mindset for me, resulting in an improvement on my outlook of life. With my new skills, I plan to launch a successful career in the tech industry.

Los Angeles, CA

Prior to NPower I served 9 years in the Army. I served 3 years in the active Army and 6 years in the Army National Guard. I was an MRLS Operator in the Field Artillery and then reenlisted as a Paralegal in the Army National Guard. What brought me to NPower was a desire to get into Tech. I enrolled in a coding bootcamp with the goal of working towards becoming a backend developer. I realized I needed to work on the basic skills of tech and was introduced to the NPower program through an email from VA News. I saw NPower as an opportunity to sharpen my skills as I work toward becoming a tech professional. During my time at NPower, I was able to acquire the fundamental skills in IT along with my Google IT Support and CompTIA ITF+ certifications. With my new skills, I am interested in pursuing a career in cyber security.

U.S. Navy Anaheim, CA

Before NPower, I served for 2 years on active duty in the U.S. Navy as an APACT or Aviation Professional Apprenticeship Career Track. I was undesignated and assigned as a helper for the ITs but despite my passion for nursing school at that time, I discovered a love of the internet and computers. After my service, I struggled to find a job and was in constant search for a school that would accept me, but then I happened upon NPower, whom my mother introduced me to. I was skeptical at first but most of all I thought it was a blessing. A free program for IT? Despite being skeptical, NPower felt like a gift that came in the form of a training program and it was what I needed so I took the chance. As I have been interested in technology for a while, having been given the opportunity to put them into fruition, I look forward to utilizing my experiences and newly gained skills in the program to do better both professionally and personally.

Before NPower, I was part of Snap Inc. internship during the summer. I’m currently a student at California State University Los Angeles getting my B.S. in Supply Chain Management. Throughout my educational journey, I’ve learned and grown so much with the help of organizations like NPower, Snap Academies/Next Shift Learning & my amazing community by helping me gain amazing opportunities in the tech industry. During my NPower training, the most beneficial thing I’ve taken away was learning how to build a computer for a client using a demo program online. What I enjoyed the most during personal development at NPower was the fact that our facilitators were supportive, strengthened authenticity by encouraging us to research roles that aligned with who we are. Growing up with a single mother from Guatemala, I’ve learned to embrace my struggles to help women like me. I value the importance of the presence of women in the IT field, especially those who come from an economically disadvantaged home and/or language barriers. I see myself being a Data engineer for a top 50 company in the next 5 years. I aspire to give back to the programs and communities that helped pave the way for me.

Before NPower, I was working in an office for a law firm. I was always interested in technology and a friend suggested that I contacted NPower to study IT. I started the program and NPower have given me the tools to start a career in technology. I am very impressed with the program. I have learned so much about technology. After I graduate, I would like to utilize my knowledge and my newly acquired skills to launch my tech career, find a job in IT and to work for a great company that I can grow with.

Before NPower, I served as the IT Support Specialist at Honey Birdette Inc. As a technician, my responsibilities were to maintain computer systems, installs, configurations, hardware & software, and solve any technical issues for 30 plus retail locations worldwide. Before that, I acquired my first IT position as a Data Technician at Rite Aid Distribution Center providing basic training & technical assistance to system users entering data in existing information systems. After landing two successful entry level IT positions, I was in need of additional skill sets and certifications to validate my knowledge and value. A fellow veteran informed me NPower was a great organization offering cohort classes, multiple certifications and a great panel of mentors and colleagues. I took my fellow veterans' advice, which I am quite pleased with the management structure and curriculum offered to veterans.

Prior to NPower, I was working as a class assistant for children with special needs. My husband, at the moment, was recovering from an injury so I was the only source of income for our family. A couple months before, I had been considering a job change, but that was not an option at the moment. It was until I received an email from a NPower team member that reminded me if I wanted to reconsider re-applying to the program. I had applied the previous year but was unable to proceed due to personal circumstances. I decided to apply and thankfully I was accepted to the Spring 2023 cohort. The weeks have passed, and graduation seems closer and there is still much to learn. However, I cannot deny that my time at NPower has given me the opportunity to believe in myself. A career change can have its challenges, like many other life decisions, but in my case, it helped polish those qualities and skills that needed improvement and attain new ones. Many doors have opened for me, and I plan to give my best in the path I decide to follow. The technical skills I have acquired give me the confidence to apply to an entry-level job, or apprenticeship after graduation. I am eager to put my knowledge into action and keep learning in the years to come.

Dennis Entsie U.S. Army Los Angeles, CA

I served six years in the California National Guard branch component of the US Army. My job duty from when I first enlisted in 2016 until the end of my service was as a water treatment specialist. I was in my final term of my military service when I also graduated from college with my bachelor degree in Network Security and this was all during the peak of the pandemic. A year after, I would return from an overseas tour and would finally separate from the military right after the end of my service. My desire and passion in tech never faded away but I always saw the need to upgrade my skills and knowledge and that was when I came across NPower. Prior to discovering NPower I was always already working a regular night job while still on the search for an entry level position to get into in tech but with NPower as a free training program I realized that I had nothing to lose. I have strong hopes that this program would be a pivotal moment for me to fully enter the tech industry confident with a rewarding career.

Ian Espinosa 25 Long Beach, CA

Before starting NPower, I was consistently working two jobs in order to afford my basic needs. I wanted to go back to school but was financially unable to balance both 2 part time jobs and continuing towards my bachelor's without sacrificing my time and thousands of dollars. I was introduced to NPower through a separate certification program I did with UniteLA. I decided to join to focus on continuing my professional development.

Winnetka, CA

Prior to Npower, I had recently graduated from high school and was deciding what to do next in my life. I was unsure about attending a community college, so I opted instead for a part-time job as a teacher assistant to get some job experience. When I first heard of NPower, I doubted if this was for me since I had no prior knowledge or experience in the tech field. I had many fears and doubts as I submitted my application, but I decided to give myself this opportunity to gain new, valuable skills. Half-way through the program, I can say that I am grateful for having given myself this wonderful opportunity. All the high-quality information, training, and guidance I receive from both the technical instructors and the professional development team are extremely valuable and have helped me acquire the technical knowledge and professional skills needed to start a successful career in IT. So far, I have obtained my ITF+ and Google IT Support Certifications, which I am positive will give me a great head start in my IT career. I am excited to begin this journey and look forward to acquiring experience in this ever-growing field.

Prior to being accepted into NPower program I had just graduated high school. I joined a cybersecurity boot camp and found it was something I was interested in more as in a career rather than just a job. One of the main reasons I wanted to join NPower was to get my first certificates. It was one of my goals to work towards to work for my dad’s company eventually once I had a good understanding. The thing that brought me to NPower was the all the help they provide in order to be successful. Also how they teach you things to be successful in the real world. One of the things that caught my attention was the certificates, professional development, and internships. My goals are to get my certifications then learn Cloud or Security Architect.

Thomas Groff

U.S. Marine Corps San Diego, CA

Information Technology fascinates and excites me. As a Marine, my job included duties as the on-site IT contact. Even before my time in service, I helped people set up computers and peripherals. Though most of my last 10 years in the copier industry have been spent in logistics, the last three years have seen me in a network operations role that included help desk support. I discovered NPower about a year ago, via a VA newsletter. At the time, I couldn’t commit to the time needed. When my last position was discontinued, I reached out. NPower folks responded almost immediately and made every effort to expedite my enrollment. NPower has provided me with the formal training and opportunity to achieve certification that I need to pursue an IT career. My experience will be helpful, but many job postings require formal training, often preferring certifications. I have been able to achieve two certifications, and will achieve two more, before graduation. With my new skills and certifications, I plan to take my job search by storm, and find a role that is a good fit for me! NPower is hugely helpful in this area, as well. Professional Development is a vital part of the training program, and the support in this area does not simply end once the trainee graduates.

After graduating high school, I attempted to go to college, but lacked the discipline to finish my courses. That is when I decided to serve in the military from 2017-2021 as an Aircraft Ordnance technician. After the military, I struggled to keep a job due to injuries I suffered while in the military. This led me to choose a career path that would satisfy my inability to walk for long periods of time. I went back to college once more to look for different career paths. This is when I landed on cyber security since I’ve always had a fascination with computers. While in school I also discovered NPower through veteran programs which gave me the opportunity to learn and be employed at a faster pace than traditional schooling.

During the journey to finding NPower I hit several roadblocks with organizations and companies claiming to want to help veterans, unfortunately, none was able to provide help or support me. NPower, like many, seemed too good to be true, but I still decided to give the admission process a go, and I am happy I did. I came across NPower in an email sent from the organization Work for Warriors, which instantly got my attention, as I have always had an interest in the technology field, especially after my last two deployments where I had the opportunity to work as a team intel specialist. Having a basic knowledge of how a computer operates or what components make a computer function had me worried about being able to succeed in the class. After attending the first admissions interview all my concerns diminished as the program was explained thoroughly and I had a better understanding of what the program offers and who the program has helped in the past. Once I started the program, I quickly saw how the staff and instructors at NPower truly support their students to ensure that everyone succeeds in the program and how NPower truly cares about veterans, as they are always looking for resources that veterans can apply for. I am thankful that I applied to NPower, as I now have unlimited resources in both the staff and classmates.

Prior to my enrollment in NPower, I worked as a warehouse worker and desired a career change. Although uncertain about which path to pursue, I explored technology, an area where I had always demonstrated proficiency. The reason I chose NPower was because of the opportunity it presented to acquire new skills and continue learning beyond the program. Throughout this program I have gained technical, professional, and career development skills. Which has helped prepare me to find a career in doing what I love. I am very thankful to the NPower staff and have really enjoyed the opportunity to grow professionally while gaining new technical skills.

Los Angeles, CA

After studying at a religious school for two years, I gained work experience through various opportunities, such as an internship at a jewelry store and an apprenticeship at a construction company. Upon the recommendation of a friend, I joined NPower to improve my skills and knowledge in the tech industry. NPower has given me valuable insights and equipped me with essential workplace skills. I have earned ITF+ and Google IT support certificates and developed expertise in areas like networking and goal setting. To continue my professional growth, I plan to complete the CompTIA trifecta, which includes A+, Security+, and Network+ certifications. I am confident that this training will enable me to thrive in the tech industry and contribute to my future success.

Andrew Largaespada

U.S. Air Force

Long Beach, CA

Before NPower, I was a security forces Airman for the Air Force for 6 years. Most of my job was related to the Law Enforcement and Security side of the military, but I would occasionally work with computers or customer service. I noticed a lot of my friends that recently separated from the military would start working for defense contract companies such as Raytheon and Northrup Gruman. They told me companies like that love to hire veterans, but they need certificates to get hired in the first place. Various friends that had recently separated from the military I did not know where to start in terms of gaining these certificates until I came across NPower. I saw that they can jumpstart your career in IT and assist you in getting these certificates. I felt that this was the best first step into getting into the door of my first real career change. My time at Npower gave me the required certifications and confidence to start my IT career. After graduation I plan to pursue a career with companies such as Boeing, Raytheon, and the Walt Disney Company. I still want to further my education and gain more certifications so I can be an ideal candidate for any employer that I apply for. I'm excited to start my new career in the IT world.

Zully Matul 23

Los Angeles, CA

Prior to NPower, I graduated with my bachelor's in psychology and minors and Neuroscience and Forensic Psychology. At this time, I took a gap year from my graduate degree in Clinical Psychology and began working at a law firm. During this period, I was trying to explore different career options because I knew that I wanted to seek a tech related field. Since my friend and I shared similar interests in the field of technology, she introduced me to the NPower program. I took this opportunity as a chance to change my career path and start learning entry level skills to become a tech professional.

Before NPower, I was a recent graduate with my bachelor’s degree in computer science. Even though I was applying to tech jobs, I was always met with rejections. Unfortunately, I was slowly going into a mindset thinking I was not made for a tech career. Therefore, I decided to start working temporarily as a general clerical to have a reason to wake up every morning. When I heard about NPower from Unite-LA, I thought this was a perfect place to continue where I left off in my tech career journey. During my time here in NPower, I was able to gain further knowledge in the technical side and networking. They have also introduced many other tech career positions that may be of interest to me and this has made me really think about where I want to go. Additionally, NPower has provided sufficient resources and support throughout the program, and I felt that I gained back my confidence to start applying to tech jobs again.

Before NPower, I attended a 5-week interactive cybersecurity course. I was introduced to NPower by a classmate that attended the cybersecurity course. After doing additional research, such as watching YouTube videos and other testimonials on LinkedIn, I decided to apply to the program. During my time at NPower, the instructors were great educators by taking the time to break down and explain technical terms, making concepts simple to learn. After graduation I plan to continue my education in cybersecurity.

Before I NPower I was a community college student with no direction or experience to enter the tech world. I knew I wanted to be involved in tech. I love how technology can eserve people by having an easier life for everyone. What brought me to NPower was the great support and high-level classes that NPower offers. I was introduced to NPower by one of my school career presentations. NPower was giving a presentation and I attended and immediately thought about applying for the program. It sounded too good to be true at first, but I could not miss out on this great opportunity, so I applied. My time at NPower gave me a lot of tech experience and professional development knowledge. NPower has helped me prepare and taught me all the topics to get my certification for CompTIA. NPower has also granted me a great opportunity to network with other people through their collaboration classes with San Jose and the speakers that come during class. I want to be able to accomplish and get all the certifications available for my current class and be able to move on to higher-level classes. After graduation, I plan to explore more high-level classes and take more classes to further my education. With my new skills, I also plan to find jobs and internship opportunities.

Jeffelyne Notomihardjo 25

Rowland Heights, CA

Prior to NPower, I was working part time while taking classes at my local community college as a radiologic technician major. NPower was the perfect opportunity to finally pursue that buried interest. During my time so far as an NPower trainee, I’ve truly learnt so much through the instructor-led classes and from various guest speakers. While it was overwhelming at times, pushing through with my studies and relying on the support network at NPower has helped me to stay on track and not become consumed with worry. The more I learn, the more I realize just how vast the world of IT really is. Although I’d like to chase my ambitions and aim high when seeking job opportunities, prioritizing my foundational skills has become more important to me. I believe further training and certifications will be my best next move, along with starting at a more entry level jobs so I can really flesh out core skills. After graduation I hope to either work in the IT field or continue to learn and obtain certifications to leverage job opportunities. Ultimately, I’d like to find work that marries my interest in the medical field and technology.

San Jose, CA

Before starting at NPower, I worked the night shift at Cisco System INC for the position of Hardware Test Engineer. During my time at Npower, I was able to apply my skills learning in technology and got a swing shift position at Intel for System Management. I was previously enrolled in the Tech Fundamentals Program in Spring 2021. I went through a lot of challenges during my career, like working a 12 hour shift in the production line at Tesla, and working the night that I barely had enough time to sleep at Cisco. Despite that, I was determined to strive for my goals. One of my goals is to achieve the ITF+ certification, and NPower provided by the necessary tools, knowledge, and experience to succeed in the IT field and life. I would like to express my gratitude to the NPower staff for giving me the opportunity to start a new career in the technology industry.

Prior to NPower, I was a student majoring in nursing that was reconsidering her career choice when I found the world of IT. I discovered my interest in this field and was introduced to NPower by a graduate who told me about the great opportunity that NPower offers. That encouraged me to enroll myself into NPower’s IT Support program and dive into the world of IT. During the program, I’ve had the chance to acquire my Google IT Support and CompTIA ITF+ certification while gaining confidence in myself, thanks to PD’s mock interviews. Along with that, I’ve learned tips on how to network, which has improved my development as a professional in the IT industry. After the program, I would like to land a job in the IT industry where I can utilize the skills that I learned at NPower.

Alexander Norodom

U.S. Marine Corps

Los Angeles, CA

Before I NPower I was working as a bar manager creating cocktail menus for craft bars. During my military service I did infantry light armor reconnaissance. The thing that I am most proud of is being a U.S. Marine Corps. I wouldn't be the person I am today without the core values I was taught, such as honor, courage and commitment. I wanted to break the pattern of an immigrant family coming from war during the Khmer rouge where millions of my people were murdered. Growing up surrounded by poverty in the hood of eastside Long Beach, my parents had to survive and make a living to take care of us. I desire to demonstrate to my family I am intelligent enough to improve my life and gain financial stability and eventually, give back to my community. During my NPower training, my favorite thing I learned was learning the hardware and specs of computers and how to build a computer. One of the things I enjoyed about professional development was that it showed me how to better myself as a human being and be ready for the workforce in tech. In a year I see myself killing it in the tech field and being the best tech guy I can be. In 3 years, I hope to be giving back to the underserved community to make their lives better. I love teaching and improving the lives of others.

Hosalee Parrish III

U.S. Air Force California Air National Guards

Los Angeles, CA

My name is Hosalee Parrish III, and I was born in the city of Compton, California. Recently, relocated back to Los Angeles, California after return to the U.S. from Kuwait. I am a member of the United States Air Force California National Guards for 7 years. My A.F.S.C is forces support services. In hopes for the near future in the military transition to Cybersecurity to sensor program and have a military retirement. And also have a civilian career in Information Technology. My interest in the NPower program is gaining the upper hand in the career field of technology. In addition, showing support, I am also an entrepreneur and creating new technology. With a Business License already established and Patent pending, I am excited to see how this technology can help others grow. I was introduced to NPower by my cousin, who is also in the military. As an active military member, I was interested in training, benefits for veterans, and certifications offered for students while attending the program. It is certainly a win-win. I hope to learn as much as I possibly can, to be of great service to others. Having military experience I have, character value and confidence, which I hope employers will appreciate, I know I can contribute to the day-to-day operations and continue to achieve success.

Before NPower I was working food service jobs minimum wage and labor jobs not really knowing what to do with my life. I decided to do something I love which is working with computers and gaming and wanting to go further into that to pursue my dream. I was introduced to NPower by my mother, a college counselor over at Cal State Long Beach. She told me about this program being free and helping young adults to go into the IT field and to work with technology. During NPower, the instructor-led classes helped me advance my technological skills. In the beginning of the program, I had little knowledge of how to navigate a computer. Throughout my time, I’ve gained a better sense of understanding a computer’s components. After graduation, I plan to get an IT job and utilize the skills that I learned in the program and implement them in the real world.

Prior to NPower, I was a biologist. I decided to pursue my emerging interest in technology. As I was pursuing my associate degree in Cloud Computing, I joined NPower. NPower helped me gain a solid footing in the tech field with CompTIA ITF+, Microsoft 365, Azure Fundamentals and Google’s IT Support certifications. After my internship, I aim to work in cloud computing or databases.

Prior to NPower I was working as a barista, knowing I was eager to go back to school but unsure of what I wanted to pursue. While considering different careers I’ve found myself interested in tech and its many paths and opportunities for growth. Unsure of how to kickstart my journey I researched and came across NPower's page. At first, I was skeptical as it seemed too good to be true, but I would soon learn it would be one of the best decisions I would make. After finishing the IT Support Specialist Program and gaining my certificates, I hope to continue my journey gaining real life experience through an apprenticeship while also continuing my learning through NPower's Cloud computing program. With these resources and guidance, I strive to launch my career in tech and create a new life for myself, something I wouldn't have thought possible before NPower.

Prior to NPower, I was a cashier in a bakery and I was confused about what exactly I wanted to do with my life. I loved IT but I didn’t know what steps to take in order to pursue my dream job in cybersecurity. I've enjoyed the curriculum in professional development, and how I can apply it to both my personal and professional aspects of my life. Through the tech instruction I've learned how important communication is, how to advocate for myself, get guidance, and how to persevere through difficult and challenging times. Beyond grateful to NPower for the opportunity to learn about myself and how far I can go. After graduation I am looking forward to internship opportunities and then continuing my educational journey to gain further certifications.

Riverside, CA

Born in Singapore, and spending my infancy in Indonesia, I spent much of my life moving from place to place before settling down in California. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a bachelor's in economics, I found myself struggling to find employment in a competitive job market, sending out job applications by the dozens. That’s when my brother told me about his experience with NPower and how the wonderful staff in the program helped jumpstart his career. Heeding his advice, I applied and was accepted into the program. Right away, I was floored by the number of resources they provide you—they really do set you up for success. And all for free, to boot. During my time at NPower, I was taught tech skills in addition to soft skills that will prepare me for my budding career. NPower then prepared me for several certifications that would make me marketable to employers. Once I graduate, I hope to begin a career within the tech field, utilizing what I learned at NPower, and really begin my adult life.

Reseda, CA

Before NPower, the direction for where my life was headed wasn’t clear. What brought me to NPower was the chance to learn and attain valuable technological advanced skills that will help me find a long term, salary-based career that will help fund my passion projects. I know I have the mental fortitude to go through this rigorous program and come out of this as a better person when it’s all done. After NPower, I plan on using my skills to gain a certificate in the Cybersecurity space to eventually land a role in that field and also giving time to my aspiring music and film career. I have learned valuable information such as Hardware functions, Networking processes and Software processes. I've learned new ways I can maximize my time working with a computer while also helping those around me learn new terms. My main goal is to become a trustworthy audio engineer and music producer that knows his way around all sorts of equipment, hardware, cables, ports, and software. I still feel like I have a way to go before I feel fully confident in my ability to be tech savvy, however, with NPower’s help, I truly feel that I am on my way!

Before NPower, I served in the United States Marine Corps for six years. I took the oath to serve my country in 2012 and finished my service in 2018. After my time in the military, I held various jobs as a security specialist and felt I needed a different career path. I came across NPower through an email. My time at NPower gave me the confidence and knowledge to pursue a career in cyber security. After graduation I plan on enrolling in the advanced security course and continue to expand my knowledge.

Grant Sato 19

La Habra, CA

Before NPower I was working jobs that simply did not provide enough to make ends meet. When I was working a full-time job when I was 19, I had no time to do anything outside of work and still wouldn't have enough money to fully support myself. When I was confused about what to do next, my barber told me about the program. In all honesty, I was very skeptical at first, but NPower turned out to be much more than I could have expected. During my time at NPower I learned everything necessary to obtain certificates, learned what a workplace might expect, and developed soft skills. There were also various networking opportunities that are great when starting a career in IT. After graduation, I plan to start applying and looking for my first full-time IT job. I am hopeful that this is the start of a new beginning I have been working towards.

Before I NPower I was a part-time student working a minimum wage job at a school and struggling to keep up with my education plan classes to be on time to transfer/graduate/ and receive a certification. During that time, it became a longterm goal to get a certificate because of the low number of classes I was able to enroll in while working my part time job. I have volunteered at a golf course during the summer of 2021 to get more experience on my belt. What brought me to NPower is the IT Support Specialist and the Cyber Security Specialist Program after that I would also like to pursue. I am proud to accomplish my spot at NPower because their support and goals align with mine. I am also proud to say that during my NPower training I am still enrolled in school, and it will be a lot sooner when I can receive a certificate and help me continue to pursue my career goals at a much more comfortable job while pursuing my career goals. It was then that I learned tech is my passion to be in and I want to continue to learn and grow with all the avenues there is to explore in tech. During my NPower professional development, I enjoyed the options to secure a job after this journey to an apprenticeship. With this possibility I will be able to help underserved communities by teaching and introducing the technology to communities.

Before starting NPower, I graduated from CSUDH with a B.A. in Advertising and Public Relations. At the time, I thought I wanted to be a copywriter, but after an internship and a job in the advertising field I decided it wasn’t for me, so I wanted to switch careers. I am currently enrolled in a pre-apprenticeship program with the County of Los Angeles, Internal Services Department. I am working as a help desk analyst in the Customer Assistance Center. What brought me to NPower is wanting a deeper understanding in the fundamentals of Information Technology and since I don’t have a computer science background, I thought NPower would be perfect. I heard about NPower through a friend because I told him how I was struggling a bit at my pre-apprenticeship and wanted to be more knowledgeable in the basics of information technology. My time at NPower gave me so much insight and knowledge on the basics of IT and also Microsoft Azure. I was able to obtain three certifications which include: Google IT Support, CompTIA ITF+, and Microsoft Azure AZ-900 in a short amount of time. After graduation, I plan to seek full-time employment as a helpdesk technical analyst or another similar IT entry level position.

Before NPower I was a nail tech. The place I was working at shut down due to covid. Prior to being a nail tech, I served in the military. During my military service I worked in Supply as a Ship’s Serviceman. Serving in the US Navy taught me how to work with a diverse group of people. I learned in the military that going above and beyond will get you far, a reason why I got promoted to being a supervisor. As the supervisor in the VIP laundry service, I learned attention to detail, time management in a fast-paced environment, and conflict resolution. My favorite thing I’ve learned at NPower so far is that there are so many avenues you can pursue in tech, since the field is so broad and always expanding. I enjoy the interviewing skills and the NPower alumni that the PD team brought from the industry. I think NPower helps people from underserved communities by providing opportunities for people who didn’t attend college. Some people cannot afford college, but with this program, they can still be successful in this field. Within a year I see myself as a NPower graduate, starting at a help desk position or other entry level position to get experience. In three years, I want to be advancing into cybersecurity. Ultimately, I would like to work for an airline company.

Before NPower I was looking for a job that could expand my work experience and knowledge of IT. I was introduced to NPower by a coworker at my most recent job, who was an NPower Alumni, and recommended I join. Out of high school I worked as an ink technician but didn't find much interest or opportunity in that field. I decided that going back to school was the best option for me. I went to East Los Angeles Community College and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona, where I graduated with a B.A in Philosophy. Even though I graduated from college, I still struggled to find a job and an interest in a career field. Everything started to turn around for me once I landed a job at Arey Jones Educational Solution as a Computer Configuration Technician. Getting a job in the I.T. career gave me an interest I haven’t really had. I’m very excited to be at the beginning of my I.T. career, to see what I will learn and how I will grow in the profession.

Before NPower, I was working freelance and honing my craft as a filmmaker. I didn’t go to college straight out of high school and instead opted to get my bearings on the world first. After several years working in a variety of different fields, expanding my library of soft skills and strengthening my work ethic, the pandemic hit. It felt like everyone took a moment to stop and revisit their goals and how to accomplish them. It wasn’t until a friend of mine, an NPower graduate, told me about the program that I decided a hard shift in direction was a necessary change in my life. At NPower, I found my discipline and productivity improve substantially through engaging lectures, fun and creative exam prep, and really just the best instructors. With my new skills in tech, I hope to pursue a career in Data Analytics that can sustain and nurture my creative endeavors!

Prior to NPower, I graduated with a degree in Computer Information Systems and planned to head into managing and supporting network infrastructure eventually. However, when I learned about NPower, I was interested in the opportunities to obtain IT certifications and the assistance with job placement. During the orientation week, I was glad to hear that NPower would also guide us through personal development by coaching us in goal setting and financial literacy. So far, I have obtained two IT certifications - CompTIA’s IT Fundamentals and Google’s IT Support. Although I already had prior knowledge of IT operations, this program still introduced new topics and learning platforms that will help me continue building my knowledge. Additionally, the professional development aspect of NPower helped me with my resume and learn about balancing responsibilities between work and home. After graduation, I plan to continue seeking out IT support roles to get practical experience with how businesses utilize IT. At the same time, I plan on using the NPower learning platforms to continue learning about computer networks and any new topics that come up on the job.

Before NPower, I was a college student in their last semester of college trying to find a job industry I wanted to get into. I first heard about NPower through a program called C5LA, who had nothing but positive things to say about it. I did some research on my own and found that the program aligned perfectly with my interests and career goals. What drew me to NPower was not just the technical skills they offered, but also the professional development and job placement support. It was clear that NPower was committed to helping their graduates succeed in the tech industry. During my time at NPower, I've gained a better understanding of technological software and hardware and have honed my skills in data analytics. I am now equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in the tech industry, and I am excited about the endless possibilities that lie ahead. As for my career goals, I plan to use my new skills to pursue a career in data analytics. I believe that data analytics is a field with enormous potential for growth and I want to be a part of that growth. With the help of NPower, I am confident that I will be able to achieve my career goals and make a positive impact in the tech industry.
