for enquiring minds
Welcome to our updated 2023 catalogue.
NQ Publishers is the UK imprint of independent packagers & publishers Nextquisite Ltd. We publish illustrated novelty and reference books for children aged 0 to 12.
You will notice that our strap line is “for enquiring minds.” Our goal is to engage our readers with interesting ideas and gorgeous illustrations on a wide range of subjects and to instil a lifelong love of books and reading.
This is our third catalogue and by early 2024 we will have 38 books in stock. This year will see strong growth as we begin working with a range of wholesalers and agents in the UK and in export markets around the world.
New books
Highlights this year include a stunning pop-up edition of Alice in Wonderland illustrated by award-winning artist Philip Giordano, which is due in October. In the same month we will begin a new series of glow-in-the-dark book+ puzzles with Magic Jungle, and in November The Four Seasons will be the first title in a new series of carousel books.
For toddlers, we have the All Aboard! Choo Choo Train series beginning in October with The Birthday Party and Monster Moods For young history buffs, this catalogue will see the release of all four titles in the What Would You Be series, including Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, and Ancient China. These books are ideal for libraries and classrooms and eye-catching enough for trade bookshops too. In response to the growing number of inactive and overweight children, in September we will publish Get Moving, a lift-the-flap book with 50 fun exercises for kids to learn and do at home.
Early 2024 will get off to a brilliant start with our stunning new novelty title Planet Earth, illustrated by Italian artist Fonzy Nils. In February 24 we will publish two lift-the-flap books on careers: So, You Want to Work in Fashion? and So, You Want to Work with Animals? illustrated by American artist Josh Cleland.

38 39 AFRICA Spinosaurus Lived: North Africa, 95–75 mya Length: Up to 18 m (59 ft) Weight: Up to 7500 kg (16,500 lb) Diet: Fish, meat
The largest of all the carnivorous dinosaurs, Spinosaurus roamed the marshlands and waterways that covered much of North Africa in the Early Cretaceous. Equally at home on land or in the water, the giant predator hunted the large fish that lived in the shallow waters. Standing knee deep in the water, completely still, it used its keen eyesight to find the darting fish, waiting to strike with its fearsome teeth and claws at just the right moment. Giant sawfishes’ jaws lined with teeth. The sail stood between 1.5 and 2 metres (5–6 feet) tall and was supported by long neural spines covered in skin. Fossils have been found in Egypt and Morocco. ; The Giant sawfishes grew up to three times as long as a tall man. ; The sawfishes jaws were elongated and lined with teeth that stuck out bizarrely to the sides. The teeth had backward facing barbs, like harpoons. They probably used them for defence, slashing at predators. They also had small, normal teeth inside their mouths for chewing. The sawfishes were also feared predators. Their eyes were positioned on the top of their skulls so they could spot prey. Their teeth were barbed to stop prey escaping. madagascar - a world apart Onchopristis - Giant Sawfish Lived: North Africa 71–66 mya Length: Up to 8 metres (26 ft) Weight: Up to ton Diet: Fish Belzebufo, or the “devil frog,” was the largest frog that ever lived. The size of a large beach ball, it was very aggressive and would gobble up prey with its outsize mouth. Today the island of Madagascar lies off the coast of Africa but during most of the Mesozoic it was connected to India. Fossils are quite different from those in Africa, and the dinosaurs excavated here have more in common with those from India. There are also some unique species that have only been discovered on the island. Majungasaurus was a large predatory dinosaur that lived in Madagascar during the Late Cretaceous. It is one of the few dinosaurs known to have preyed on members of its own species. Rahonavis was a small bird-like theropod that was closely related to Archaeopteryx. Slightly larger than a modern raven, it has feathers but scientists don’t know if it could fly. Beelzebufo 70 Mya Majungasaurus 72–66 Mya Rahonavis 72–66 Mya ; Many of the dinosaurs found in Madagascar come from the Late Cretaceous Maevarano Formation in the northeast. The light sandstone has preserved the fossils very well and many complete skeletons have been found in excellent condition. Spinosaurus was a strong swimmer, paddling with its back legs and also using its tail to propel itself along. Spinosaurus had elongated jaws more like those of a modern crocodile than most other dinosaurs. The riddle of the sail Scientists have puzzled about the purpose of Spinosaurus’ sail ever since it was discovered. Some think it was for display, to attract a partner at mating time. Others think it was used to regulate body temperature, or to store energy as fat for use in lean times.
