Giving Back to the NRA:

Clarkston, Michigan

The great State of Michigan boasts many NRA Members. In fact, Michigan is also the home of many members of the NRA Business Alliance Program to boot. Accurate Firearms of Clarkston, Michigan has been a valued member and friend of the NRA Business Alliance since 2010. This business proudly displays its support for NRA via web presence as well as their brick and mortar retail storefront and range. by Delaney Nester, Off ice Manager, Accurate Firearms, LLC

It is not only rare to remain honest and resolute in your beliefs in a society driven by a media that frowns upon free thinkers, it’s admirable. The NRA is an unwavering force that stands for its member’s rights and for the rights of generations to come. For these reasons, and many others, Accurate Firearms fully supports the NRA. Accurate Firearms LLC, founded in 2008, is located in Clarkston, MI. We’re a family owned and operated firearm store that features the most advanced firearms and an equally impressive selection of used classics. We were founded with the intention to educate and equip our community with the tools necessary to safely protect their families. Throughout our 10 years in business, we’ve made every effort to do exactly that. Each customer that enters our facilities has different wants and needs. Our job is to find the perfect firearm for said customer while ensuring they understand proper firearm handling, operation, and storage. But, our work doesn’t end with the completion of a sale. We opened Accurate Range in 2013 to further our mission. Accurate Range is conveniently located right next door and provides a wide range of rentals to assist in the selection of a firearm. At the range, we offer a variety of training courses for individuals of all skill levels. We believe the more realistic the training is, the more effective the results will be. That’s why we’ve also partnered with MILO Range to provide our customers with onsite Live-Fire Simulator training. The MILO Range Live-Fire system allows customers to use their actual firearm and ammunition to participate in interactive, advancing scenarios. These scenarios envelope a wide variety of training situations including:

traffic stops, active shooter situations, burglaries, domestic disturbances, and many more. The system uses thermal technology to sense the heat signature of a bullet as it passes through the screen. The customer’s reaction time and shot placement are then calculated by the simulator to advance the scenario. We are currently the only location in Michigan using this state of the art technology. While we educate our community on proper firearm handling and operation locally, the NRA promotes it on a national level. Accurate Firearms and Range has been a member of the NRA Business Alliance since 2010. We proudly display and advocate our support for the NRA daily. To further show our support, we began hosting firearm raffles in 2016. The raffles are limited to 100 tickets at $20 each, so the chances of winning are very good. Through this process we’ve been able to raise over $15,000 for the NRA. It is our privilege to advocate for the NRA. An association of members that remain unwavering in their support of our Second Amendment freedoms. To see what's going on at Accurate Firearms, visit http://www.accuratef irearmsllc.com or stop in if you are near the Clarkston area. The retail store is located at 6565 Dixie Highway in Clarkston, Michigan with the range conveniently located right nextdoor. If you have any questions about our current stock or what our current specials are please give the store a call direct at 248-625-1045.

I AM THE

M E M B E R

By Rich Thomas, CEO and President, High Ground Consulting Group Inc. LLC (AI GunPro Portable Rifle Rack)

The NRA is not the ‘boogie man, evil empire’ that the left is attempting to brand it. The National Rifle Association directly supports Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses like mine; American Innovations LLC. The support comes through the NRA Business Alliance. As a family owned, managed, and led business, which designed, engineered, manufactured and sells our AI Portable Rifle/Shotgun Rack, we are proud to have been a member of the NRA Business Alliance since 1996. Recently I was targeted through email attacks and experienced firsthand the bullying tactics of the anti-gun left. The emails came cloaked as potential interested customers who were ready to order large quantities of our GunPro Portable Rifle Racks. The email dialogue soon turned to expressing frustration and dissatisfaction with my Business Alliance membership with the NRA, followed by statements of their inability to morally or ethically purchase our GunPro Portable Rifle Racks due to my business affiliation with the NRA. These new strategies of targeting businesses that sup4 • NRA CLUB CONNECTION • Summer 2018

port the NRA using bullying and threatening tactics are uncalled for and un-American. The anti-Second Amendment left wing has made a concerted effort to spotlight, ridicule, and sabotage small businesses that in anyway have an affiliation with the NRA. It matters not to them that my business is manufacturing only 100% “Made in the USA” products that are ironically, directly focused on firearm safety. It is obviously not about rifle/shotgun safety, nor supporting American jobs, it is all about their targeted agenda: bringing down the NRA. Both my son and I own American Innovations LLC. We were both Active Duty Army and are now retired veterans with disabilites. AI GunPro is part of our VA approved SDVOSB. We are proud to have served our country and to have supported and defended the Constitution of the United States. I am the NRA because I will defend my rights as a small business owner, and I will also defend my rights under the Second Amendment. Restricting my freedom of speech and creating an agenda of fear and intimidation,

should be unacceptable to all political parties that truly support our Constitution, veterans with disabilities, and American small businesses. The freedom to pursue opportunity and success in business as an American Disabled Veteran should not be condemned. Truncating freedom of speech and pursuing my ideal of the American dream using tactics of bullying and intimidation cannot be accepted, nor condoned. The cloaked email threat and clear bullying effort is designed to create fear and scare me (as a small business owner) away from my NRA Business Affiliation. Let there be no doubt that this is the initial attack of a concerted effort. It is a well organized effort to bully small businesses to distance themselves from the NRA. Their intent is to introduce doubt in my business model; to create enough fear of losing profits due to my NRA Business Affiliation, that I no longer have trust in the NRA branding association. We are the NRA! We are a family owned Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, we manufacture a 100% Made in the USA quality product, we even ship it in a 100% Made in the USA cardboard box! 100% of our overhead and profits goes back into the American economy and workforce! I am the NRA! As of May, all NRA members who utilize a NRA Discount Code on my business website will receive a 10% discount on a retail purchase of an AI GunPro Portable Rifle Rack (www.americaninnovationsllc.com). This 10% NRA Discount Code savings on each GunPro ordered, will be donated back to the NRA (10% of each retail online purchase). American Innovations LLC is an enthusiastic supporter of the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM. The Whittington Center is a very special place and a must visit for all Americans. The center is led and managed by professionals such as Executive Director, Joshua Adams. Joshua fully supports the NRA Business Alliance and the GunPro Portable Rifle Rack. Each AI GunPro Portable Rifle Rack purchased through the NRA Whittington Center, will receive a 15% discount. The discount code will be applied to AI GunPro website retail sales. The entire 15% savings on each GunPro (using the NRA Whittington Center Discount Code) will be donated back to the NRA Whittington Center. We must show the left that the bullying and intimidation will only increase support and further entrench small businesses in their support of the NRA Business Alliance. I challenge all NRA Business Alliance small businesses to follow my lead. Unity of effort

and supporting each other will beat back the dark clouds of attempted suppression and manipulation. As trap shooters, hunters, collectors and NRA members, please support the NRA Business Alliance. Support our right of private business, the NRA and the NRA Whittington Center by purchasing an AI GunPro Portable Rifle Rack. You will own a quality gun rack for your shotguns, tactical weapons and/or hunting rifles, support the NRA Business Alliance, and donate directly to the NRA or NRA Whittington Center. Buy USA products, support the NRA, and support American small business because WE are the NRA! Rich Thomas CEO and President High Ground Consulting Group Inc. & American Innovations LLC (AI GunPro Portable Rifle Rack) For more information about the AI GunPro Portable Rifle Rack, go to www.americaninnovationsllc.com. Each year, our nation’s schools are entrusted to provide a safe environment for approximately 55 million elementary and secondary school students in public, private, parochial and independent schools. Families and communities expect schools to keep their children safe from threats no task is more important than creating a secure learning environment for America’s youth. We know school security is a complex issue with no simple, single solution. That’s why NRA School Shield is committed to addressing the many facets of school security, including best practices in security infrastructure, technology, personnel, training, and policy. Through this multidimensional effort, we engage communities and empower leaders to help make our schools more secure. Use the questions below to start the conversation with your local school leaders about how we can work together to protect our children: 1. 2.

Has our school ever had a vulnerability assessment done? Does our school work with local law enforcement and emergency responders in crisis planning and training? 3. When was our emergency operations/crisis management plan last reviewed? 4. What types of drills are conducted at our school and at what frequency? 5. Are all exterior doors of our school locked during instructional hours? 6. Are all visitors to our school required to check in with the main office? 7. Are students and staff trained on how to identify and report suspicious or concerning behaviors/comments? 8. Does our school have a behavioral threat assessment team? 9. If there is an emergency, how and when are parents/guardians notified? 10. Do we have designated security personnel assigned to our school? If so, are they armed/unarmed? OUR KIDS ARE OUR RESPONSIBILITY. IT’S NOT JUST OUR DUTY TO PROTECT THEM, IT’S OUR RIGHT TO PROTECT THEM. A Texas Sized Eddie Eagle Effort

A single volunteer can affect an entire state, and in a state the size of Texas, that’s surely no easy task. Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program volunteer Harold “Huckleberry Hal” Carter is the South Texas Regional Director for the Texas State Rifle & Pistol Association (TSRA). He has traveled thousands of miles across Texas to ensure that schools, law enforcement, and daycares learn and apply the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program in their institution. The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program relies on its many volunteers to raise awareness of Eddie’s message in their communities. This includes working with principals, school boards, PTO groups, daycares, youth groups, and other institutions of the like to introduce the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program. Mr. Carter has done all this and more. He has even presented at state educational conferences such as the South Texas Home Schooling CO-OP. In his efforts to spread the Eddie Eagle message across Texas, Mr. Carter is reaching out to Texas law enforcement offices to teach the importance of educating children about gun safety. He will be representing the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program at several Texas law enforcement events including the Texas School Resource Officers Annual Conference. Aside from law enforcement events, Mr. Carter attends other public events, such as NRA Weekend at Cabela’s and local children’s hospitals where he spreads Eddie

Eagle’s message through videos, activity books, and other materials. Mr. Carter has shown exceptional dedication to keeping the children of Texas safe by exponetially increasing Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program’s presence in the state. He recently volunteered to work the Eddie Eagle Zone, a kids play area and information booth, for three straight days at this year’s NRA Annual Meetings in Dallas, TX. While volunteering, we took the time to pull him away from talking with families and entertaining kids for just a minute to present him with a plaque of recognition and thank him for all his hard work. The Eddie Eagle staff are incredibly thankful for Mr. Carter’s dedication to growing the program and teaching gun safety to the children in Texas. To learn more about how to volunteer for the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program and keeping your community safe email eddie@nrahq.org!

Congratulations to all the 2018 Gold Medal Clubs!!! The NRA offers special recognition by awarding Gold Medal status to NRA affiliated organizations that promote and support the purposes, objectives, policies, and programs of the NRA. Reaching this elite level sets your club apart from others in the area. Each year numerous organizations apply to achieve the Gold Medal status; an honor presented to clubs that meet the following 5 specific criteria: • Be a 100% NRA Club - (Acheiving 100% NRA enrollment amongst club members helps make the NRA stronger by increasing its membership numbers and providing a larger representation of the shooting public. A good show of force helps make any argument more compelling.) • Have a club newsletter – A newsletter helps the club communicate to its members. Help keep club members "in the loop" of club activities and community issues as well as what is current in the world of NRA, Freedom and Second Amendment rights issues.

• Belong to the NRA State Association of your state – Joining NRA State Association shows support on the state level. Their mission is to promote and support the purpose and objectives of the NRA while providing programs and support to clubs on the local level.

• Have administered, or currently incorporate, an NRA Youth Program within the club’s agenda - Incorporating a youth program helps introduce firearms safety to younger shooters. Encouraging them to shoot at an early age will help keep the shooting sports going for future generations.

• Actively participate in NRA’s Membership Recruiting Program - participating in the NRA recruiting program helps bring new members in at a reduced price, helps generate income for your club, and helps to grow NRA numbers.

The Americans with Disabilities Act and How it Affects Ranges

By Dr. Joe Logar, PT, DPT National Manager, Adaptive Shooting Programs Email: jlogar@nrahq.org Phone: 703-267-1491

As the National Manager of the NRA Adaptive Shooting Programs, I am frequently asked about the Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA. These questions tend to come from NRA certified firearm instructors, competition organizers and range owners, and often focus on three things: what is the ADA, does it apply to me and where can I get more information? In this article I’d like to formalize the answers I’ve given over the years and spread some basic information about one of the more impactful pieces of legislation to come out of Washington, D.C. in the last 50 years.

What is the Americans with Disability Act?

The ADA is a piece of Civil Rights legislation that was passed into law in 1990 and amended through the ADA Amendment Act (ADAA) in 2008. The purpose of both the ADA and ADAA is to protect individuals with disabilities from discrimination in matters of employment, state and local government, public accommodations, telecommunications and transportation. The ADA may be the most comprehensive Act covering topics concerning people with disabilities but it is not the first or only piece of legislation on the block. It was preceded by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, The Architectural Barriers Act of 1968, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 1975 and followed by the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) of 2008 are but a few others. With all of these dates, Acts and acronyms it is very difficult to determine what – if anything – even applies to you and your organization.

Does the ADA apply to me?

The practices of local entities and the interpretations of legal precedents may result in subtle differences in en10 • NRA CLUB CONNECTION • Summer 2018

forcement from region to region. These differences make it necessary to contact a legal representative local to you, your organization and/or your range. When a range owner asks if the ADA/ADAA applies to them, the answer is: maybe. Title III of the ADA applies to private entities (as opposed to other sections covering operations of state and local governments) and places of “public accommodations”. These places of public accommodation include, but are not limited to, restaurants, hotels, theaters, convention centers, shopping centers, retail stores, museums, parks, zoos and bowling alleys. Notice that shooting ranges are not among that list of entities, but trust me they are included. Note that some states may have their own version of the ADA with which a range owner may also have to comply. I am not an attorney and I am only providing an outline of the facts about the ADA and ADAA. The only way to know for sure what your responsibilities are in reference to these laws is to speak with an attorney specializing in the ADA/ADAA in your area. Please note the critical qualifier pertaining to your area.

Under Title III of the ADA, private entities have three areas of obligation: 1. Operate in a nondiscriminatory manner ensuring individuals with disabilities have the same opportunity to participate in and benefit from the services, activities and goods offered as all other customers, patrons or clients. 2. Ensure that communication with individuals with disabilities is as effective as with others, including providing auxiliary aids and services when necessary to eliminate communication barriers. 3. Provide accessibility. Most often, it is that last obligation that troubles range owners and staff.

What exactly does providing accessibility mean? The ADA provides the following guidance by stating that an entity may provide accessibility by:

1. Removing barriers in existing facilities when the removal of barriers is readily achievable. 2. Providing alternatives to barrier removal when modifications to remove barriers is not readily achievable. 3. Providing accessibility in all renovations or additions to facilities and construction of new facilities by complying with the ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Astute readers no doubt picked up on the ambiguity of the phrase “readily achievable.” In the context of the ADA, readily achievable means that the barrier removal can be accomplished with little difficulty or expense in relation to the resources of the entity. I’m sure that definition made one thing clear – you have to retain the services of that attorney mentioned previously. I would suggest doing so before you find yourself on the receiving end of an ADA-themed lawsuit. Typically when I am speaking with a range owner or staff member, it is about here in the conversation that they reference an exemption from ADA for “private clubs.” They may be correct. The obligations of the ADA do not extend to private clubs which are defined under Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as being facilities where: 1. Members exercise a high degree of control over club operations

2. The membership selection process is highly selective 3. Fees are substantial

4. Operation is not for profit

5. Purpose is NOT to avoid civil rights law Please note that Federal courts will narrowly construe exemptions to the ADA requirements.

NRA Online Hunter Education Course Recognized with Media Industry Awards

Three years ago, NRA Hunter Services set out to revolutionize the hunter education landscape and create a modern, accessible and engaging platform for that knowledge. Continuing efforts have resulted in the most comprehensive hunter education course available—a state-of-the-art course prepared to produce some of the safest and most educated generations of hunters thus far. And those achievements are not going unnoticed. NRA Hunter Education has received seven "Telly" Awards and two Horizon Interactive Awards for its free online course, which launched in 2017 to help new hunters of all ages learn how to be safe and responsible members of the hunting community. In the 39th Annual Telly Awards, the program’s “Understanding Rifling” video achieved a gold award in the nonbroadcast use of animation category, plus three bronze awards in the competition’s non-broadcast use of 2D animation, non-broadcast education, and non-broadcast motions graphics/design categories. The “Importance of Hunter Education” video was also honored, receiving silver and bronze Tellys in the non-broadcast use of 2D animation category and a bronze award in the non-broadcast education category.

“Understanding Rifling” can be viewed at www.tellyawards.com

The Telly Awards honor film and video productions, web commercials, and outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs. They annually receive more than 12,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents that are judged by more than 200 leading industry experts including advertising agencies, production companies, and major television networks. The Horizon Interactive Awards, a leading international media competition, also recently announced the

winners of its 2017 competition, highlighting the “best of the best” in interactive media production. NRA was honored to be recognized for the NRA Hunter Education website with a silver award in the training/e-learning category and a bronze award in the instructional video category. “The National Rifle Association will continue to lead the way to preserve our rich hunting heritage within our shores and indeed across the globe. Our groundbreaking online Hunter Education course represents just one way the NRA is building and investing in the next generation of hunters and conservationists,” said Josh Powell, NRA Chief of Staff and Executive Director of General Operations. “We are proud of our long history and investment in defending hunter’s rights and please be assured that, through our training programs and other efforts to protect hunting in the U.S., we will build a better future for this great heritage.” Designed and provided by the organization that built the first-ever hunter education program in the United States in 1949, the new course offers a fresh and fully comprehensive approach to hunter education. The 15-chapter, online sequence features attention-grabbing videos, eye-catching graphics and diagrams, interactive modules, audio recordings and dozens of action photos presented in appealing, easy-to-access components that provide the best method for teaching future hunters lessons they will remember for the rest of their lives. All of this instruction is available at students’ fingertips, whenever and wherever they are able to complete it. Removing the sometimes prohibitive cost barrier of traditional courses, the NRA Online Hunter Education course is completely FREE—encouraging new hunters to take the first step and making it easier for seasoned hunters to revisit the material. Currently Connecticut, Florida, Oregon, and Texas have fully functional courses available at NRAHE.org, and NRA Hunter Services is working to make it available to hunters in all 50 states. To help promote this program and encourage your own state to get involved, contact your local wildlife agency and ask them to implement NRA Hunter Education.

Summer is here and that means time for vacation! Whether you are traveling to a tropical destination or planning something local; take time to develop a safety strategy to keep your family, home, and yourself safe while away. Here are 11 safety tips from NRA’s Refuse to Be a Victim ®:

1.

Make sure your house is secure by checking all your locks. Windows, sliding doors, and even your front door are easy ways for a criminal to enter a home. You may consider buying an extra deadbolt, sensor alarms, or even security system to ensure your home is safe. Create an illusion that your home is occupied. Install automatic light timers that go off at dusk or ask a trusted neighbor to turn lights on in your home at night. Criminals are less-likely to target well-lit homes. If you are traveling for an extended period of time, contact your post office to stop your mail delivery until you return. When in a public space such as an airport or hotel lobby, make sure to not leave out items such as your passport, ID, itinerary, or credit card. A criminal could easily take a picture of these items and document your personal information and travel plans. Also, make sure you have a digital copy of these items by taking a picture and emailing them to your phone. If you have a luggage tag on your belongings, consider using a business address or mailbox service instead of your home address in case

your items get lost. This tactic will protect your residency privacy. Talk to your children about what to do if they get lost. The best strategy is to tell them to approach a family with kids to ask for help. If you choose to carry a personal protection device, be sure to check all the laws and regulations of where you are traveling to and your mode of transportation (airplanes, buses, trains) to make sure they are not restricted. If you are traveling internationally or far from your residency, make sure to call your credit or debit card company to authorize the purchases in a location so your account doesn’t freeze. Be cautious when connecting to public Wi-Fi. If possible, complete all bill payments or other transactions prior to traveling. Purchase a portable charger for your cell phone. You do not want your phone to die when in a new location! When taking an Uber, Lyft, or taxi, make sure to follow directions on your phone or map to ensure your driver is taking you to the correct destination and best route possible.

5. 6.

7.

8. 9.

10.

If the driver knows you are from out of town, they may try to upcharge you for the ride. In case you lose service, make sure to save your maps offline. You can do this by using Google Maps and taking it offline by typing the phrase “OK Maps”. This will save the current area on your phone for later if you need it.

UPDATE By Glen Caroline, Director NRA-ILA Grassroots Programs & Campaign Field Operations Division

The NRA- ILA App As the use of technology in our daily lives continues to grow, it is imperative that we embrace new ways of communicating with our members and activists. Your NRA Institute for Legislative Action is doing just that through the use of our phone app. Since its launch in the summer of 2016, activists have taken hundreds of thousands of actions to help defend our gun rights. After downloading the free NRA-ILA app on any smart phone, users can contact their lawmakers, share articles on social media, and test their firearms knowledge with a few simple clicks. In addition to being able to communicate with individuals outside of the app, users are also encouraged to communicate with fellow app users through the community newsfeed. The NRA-ILA app is a one stop shop for any activist looking to learn more about with NRA-ILA is doing in their home state and across the nation. While we may not be able to match the billionaire’s spending dollar for dollar, the good news is we don’t have to—because we have YOU! Your NRA-ILA is investing in our human resources again this election cycle by deploying Campaign Field Representatives (CFRs) into key battle ground states ahead of these important elections. 2018 NRA Women’s Wilderness Escape Touts Outdoor Adventure

Experience The Ultimate Outdoor Adventure The two-day event offered gun safety and shooting sports instruction and immersed newcomers in the outdoor lifestyle. By Karen Mehall Phillips, Senior Editor, American Hunter-Hunters Leadership Forum

The NRA welcomed 14 women nationwide to its 4th annual NRA Women’s Wilderness Escape (WWE) at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Seven Springs, PA., June 1-3, to experience “the ultimate outdoor adventure.” The two-day event welcomes women of all skill levels ages 18 and older to learn about shooting, hunting and life in the great outdoors under the supervision of NRA Certified Instructors and outdoor specialists. Participants were guided each step of the way, starting with the basics of safe and proper firearms handling, while learning tips for preparing their own adventures.

Seven Springs Resort

Interesting to note, these NRA women were split exactly down the middle with half of them having some shooting experience and the rest having none at all. They came from as far as California and represented all walks of life—including a teacher, an attorney and a medical field professional. The weekend began with two hours of classroom instruction from a NRA-certified shotgun coach followed by a few hours of shooting on the facility’s fivestand. The rest of the day was spent shooting on the sporting clays course while continuing to receive personal instruction. The ladies were troopers because it was a wet rainy day, but their spirts were high and everyone was having fun. That evening an instructor provided medicalcare training and instruction on how to address a variety of trauma situations. Day No. 2 included opportunities for more instruction and five-stand shooting alongside NRA instructors. While that afternoon was set aside for free time to visit the onsite spa, or take a hike several participants chose to stay behind and shoot more. Among the instructors on hand was NRA’s Peter Churchbourne, Director of NRA Hunter Services, who says he enjoys being involved with the WWE because it’s gratifying to witness participants’ excitement over learning to shoot for the first time. “Watching a new shooter build confidence and empowerment by going from never having shot a gun to hitting flying clay targets is an awesome transformation to witness,” he said. The NRA will continue to expand WWE program offerings while keeping participants’ cost to a minimum.

As a longtime NRA employee and NRA Endowment Life member, I am proud to see how the WWE is a priority for my organization. It is yet another example of the NRA’s commitment to fostering the growth of hunting and the shooting sports. From Churchbourne’s perspective, the WWE specifically is a great way to introduce women to the shooting sports and then maybe to the next step: going hunting. “Ladies asked me repeatedly about where they can get a shotgun, how much one costs, where they can go shooting near their homes and questions about hunting in general,” said Churchbourne. “There is no doubt that these events increase the interest and provide a pathway Outdoor Outdoor Adventure Adventure to becoming more involved in hunting and the shooting sports.” Participants said they had a great time. Many said they hope to see the NRA offer more WWE weekend adventures. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy a fun event where no previous firearm experience is required and where lodging and meals are all included?

2018 Ambassadors with Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox

McKenna Dahl

By Claudia Olsen, Co-Op Coordinator, Education &Training Division

Exciting news! NRA has given the National Shooting Sports Program a new look and in an effort to become more inclusive of all youth cooperative programs/entities including NRA State Associations and affiliated clubs the NRA is opening up the application process to all youth that meet the requirements. Anyone that is a high school sophomore, junior or Senior is welcome to apply. Brownells has generously funded the NRA National Youth Shooting Sports Ambassador program for the last decade (2008-2018). In previous years, NRA’s National Shooting Sports Youth Cooperative Organizations such as Boy Scouts of America (BSA), National High School Rodeo Association, Royal Rangers, BSA Venturing, and USA Shooting, nominate outstanding young people to represent their organization at national events. When selected the 2019 will join a very prestigious group of youth ambassador alumni. Our Ambassadors have gone on to make a name for themselves in the shooting industry such as McKenna Dahl USA’s Bronze Medalist in the 2016 Para Olympics games in Rio. (Pictured at a World Cup in the Netherlands) Or have found positions in the industry like Remington Little a mechanical engineering student who not only has been featured on many You Tube videos but now has a position with Ruger. The Ambassadors will have an exciting year not only will they be awarded $1000 they will be traveling to 3 NRA events. Sokolowski Wins 2018 Bianchi Cup By John Parker, Managing Editor, Shooting Sports USA

Photo courtesy of Michelle Lunato/U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit

We have a new champion at the NRA Bianchi Cup presented by Colt! SFC Adam Sokolowski of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) is the 2018 champion, finishing the match with a perfect score of 1920-176X. Additionally, Sokolowski won the Multi Gun Championship with a score of 3822-329X. Action Pistol fans will note that last year, Sokolowski made history when he won the Metallic Championship firing the first-ever perfect score in Metallic, and in 2016 he was the Production Champion. Here’s what’s truly remarkable—in the span of only four years, Sokolowski has won all three Bianchi Cup divisions—Open, Metallic and Production. We probably will not be seeing anyone win all three divisions in such a short amount of time again any time soon. In second place was Mark Blake with a score of 1920172X. Eighteen-time champion Doug Koenig tied Blake's score, and when the officials went to the scorecards he placed third overall. For Metallic, Rob Vadasz is the 2018 champion scoring 1912-155X. This is his sixth win in Metallic. In second place for Metallic was Enoch Smith (also 2018 World Action Pistol Metallic Champion) with a score of 1907150X. Finishing third was Roman Hauber who scored 1906-141X. In Production, Sokolowski’s AMU teammate SFC Patrick Franks is the 2018 champion winning with a score of 1894-136X. Franks previously won back-to-back 28 • NRA CLUB CONNECTION • Summer 2018

Bianchi Metallic Championships, as well as having a NRA National Precision Pistol Championship under his belt. In second place was legendary action pistol shooter Rob Leatham with a score of 1862-129X. Third place went to Seiichi Ishikawa with 1822-109X. Anita Mackiewicz won the Women’s Championship with a score of 1911-153X. She’s now a three-time champion, previously winning in 1998 and 2015. Second place

went to last year’s champion Cherie Blake with a score of 1910-137X. In third was 2016 champion Tiffany Piper with 1903-154X. More match coverage will be forthcoming via the website and in a future issue of the digital magazine. You can view the full results of the 2018 Bianchi Cup at: rl-web.nra.org/home/matchscores.
