Our story

Bilqees Sarwar Foundation (BSF) is a registered welfare organization in Pakistan, which aims to provide public health, education and humanitarian support to the local community and beyond that BSF is working for the welfare of the prisoners. BSF is the charitable division of a group of companies, managed by the Sarwar family including NRS International and Minha Foods (Minha Edible Oils and Minha Dairy Farm). NRS International, an industry leader in manufacturing and developing relief essentials for the humanitarian, public health and development sectors. Under the umbrella of NRS International there is NRS Relief, Tana Netting and Moon Netting which are providing relief goods all over the world with their manufacturing facility based in Lahore, Pakistan, H. Sheikh Noor-ud-Din & Sons (HSNDS).

5

BSF was inaugurated with the strong belief that every business has a responsibility to support its community. It was named after Mrs. Bilqees Sarwar, wife of the late Sheikh Muhammad Sarwar, founder of NRS International and HSNDS. In line with his vision, the core objective of the foundation is to alleviate suffering and build community resilience in Pakistan and across the world. BSF is working proactively in the sectors of healthcare, education, humanitarian assistance and prisoner’s welfare

6

Our history

In 2005, the Sarwar family struggled to find quality healthcare for a sick family member. In that same year, a devastating earthquake shook regions of Pakistan and many families were left without basic supplies and healthcare services. Throughout the relief efforts, the Sarwar family became one of the largest donors to its constituents in the region. In 2013 we expanded our efforts internationally to reach a wider scope of people in need.

7

Our pledge

Over the past 10 years, the BSF team has worked tirelessly by conducting projects, campaigns and building partnerships in order to serve a wider scope of communities. The Sarwar family led the foundation on the belief that ‘charity begins at home’. To ensure we create real impact and sustainable change, we are committed to focus on three key areas:

Healthcare

Humanitarian response

Prisoners welfare

Education

Our values Trust Commitment Stewardship Integrity Sustainability

8

Our vision

To improve the wellbeing of vulnerable populations in Pakistan and build a healthy, sustainable community by leveraging the Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs) framework.

Our mission

To create positive change and implement sustainable programs to support healthcare, educational and humanitarian projects.

9

Sustainable Development Goals To create educational opportunities for underprivileged children in our community, improve existing academic systems and promote awareness about the importance of education as a basic human right.

To provide access to quality healthcare facilities to our community. We are committed to creating new healthcare facilities as well as upgrading existing (governmental) medical infrastructure.

To offer sustainable support to disadvantaged communities, including neglected urban areas and those affected by humanitarian crises or natural disasters, with the aim of building resilience and local recovery systems.

10

Mrs. Razia Begum 1925 - 2006

As the family matriarch and care giver, Mrs. Razia Begum, deeply cared about community healthcare. Many of her close family members suffered from chronic illnesses with limited or no access to quality treatments. Her love inspired our foundation to open the charity hospital in the suburbs of Lahore, where access to quality healthcare was not in reach for the community members. Through these efforts, her warmth and dedication to helping the sick continues to touch others.

Mr. Sheikh Muhammed Sarwar 1946 - 2016

The late Mr. Sheikh Muhammed Sarwar was a business person and a philanthropic leader. The secret to his success was valuing his employees with respect and supporting community members with utmost concern. His belief in equitable community healthcare resulted in the establishment of two pharmacies at HSNDS, which aimed to provide free medical services to staff and their families. His legacy as a father, son and husband lives on and will continue to inspire future generations to come.

11

Tamgha-e-Imtiaz

Mrs. Bilqees Sarwar Chairwoman BSF

While living in a globalized world, we are facing several challenges related to social development, academic growth and provision of quality healthcare facilities. As a foundation we have chosen to commit to the improvement of the improvised academic infrastructure, providing access to quality healthcare and proactively responding to humanitarian crises. We have set an ambitious goal to double our budget by next year, through funding campaigns and increased visibility in the areas of healthcare and education. 2017 was the year of sharpening our focus and increasing our impact. We recognize that change starts at home. Acknowledging the challenges we face in our local community, we need to start supporting our neighbors first, before scaling our efforts up nationally and internationally. I am proud to say that my children and grandchildren are passionately giving back to society through the implementation of numerous initiatives on quality education and healthcare access to those who need it the most.

Mrs. Bilqees Sarwar, Chairwoman, BSF has been conferred with “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz to acknowledge her tireless efforts to serve the community members in the sectors of healthcare, education, welfare of the prisoners and humanitarian assistance.

12

Mr. Farhaj Sarwar Senior Vice Chairman BSF

From little seeds, mighty trees grow, and this saying describes our journey so far. Our country is facing several challenges especially in the areas of healthcare and education, with only few resources dedicated to them. BSF has up scaled its activities significantly in 2017 and thanks to our growing donor base, we have positively impacted the lives of 150,000 community members.

Mr. Farhan Sarwar President BSF

Our secret to success is honoring every employee working for us and taking care of the community members by supporting them with our CSR-driven initiatives. As a father transfers his legacy to his children, I inherited the passion to serve humanity from my father. Being the eldest son, I am transferring this vision to the next generation in hopes that it will be preserved and carried forward. It is through our faith, and encouragement from our friends, that we are able to continue this important initiative. Our work has only just begun and next year we are looking forward to sharing further successes with you.

13

Mr. Furqan Sarwar Vice President BSF

According to UNICEF, an estimated 9.4 million primary school-aged children receive no formal education. As a father and a responsible citizen of Pakistan, I believe that there should be a strong call to action for the development of a sustainable academic infrastructure. Therefore, I wholeheartedly support our educational projects. It is about creating a generation with the right skills and tools needed to lead productive, healthy and happy lives.

Mr. Ahmar Sarwar Vice Chairman BSF

We take our investment in our foundation very seriously. We want to ensure that every rupee we donate helps as many people as possible and contributes to sustainable change. To make this a reality we leverage our expertise from other sectors and apply it to our foundation.

14

Mrs. Baserat Imran Finance Secretary, BSF

Being a part of BSF, It’s our foremost responsibility to facilitate the underprivileged segments of society with standard education and quality healthcare therefore, we are working for the cause of developing a state where we can live and enjoy the basic human rights including education, standard healthcare solutions and the welfare of prisoners.

Mrs. Arfa Sajid General Secretary, BSF

Education is a primitive necessity for developing a great nation and a key responsibility of every institute to develop a culture that encourages and support the young generation to perform at their best. Therefore, BSF has taken charge to support the academic institutions and healthcare facilities to generate a productive environment for a bright future of the next generation.

15

Our BSF Youth

Ambassadors Our foundation is blessed with passionate, dedicated and energetic youth ambassadors -the grandchildren of Mrs. Bilqees Sarwar - who carry her legacy forward and introduce new ways of tackling and resolving social issues in a community they call home.

I am very proud to be part of BSF’s mission to improve the education and healthcare systems. It gives me great pleasure to get into action and actively participate in BSF campaigns, with the aim to create real change.

I love being part of something bigger than myself. Through my contribution to BSF, I am able to spread some happiness to the people around me. As the eldest granddaughter, I feel it is my responsibility to help others and become a role model to my younger cousins.

I inherited the heart to serve my community from my elders and, as a BSF youth ambassador, I believe that youngsters can play a significant role in the development of a nation. We bring fresh concepts on the table and we challenge the way we build up our society.

I really like to participate actively in the activities organized by BSF. Giving back to the community in a sustainable way is of great importance to my family, and my parents have instilled this sense of responsibility into my brothers and myself.
