Each September, the city of Naples throws a celebration in honor one of its iconic dishes, the pizza napoletana. During the annual Pizzafest, competitions are held to determine the best local pizzamaker as folk music and dance fill the streets. For residents and guests of Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples, the atmosphere and ambiance of this festival was felt on base for the first time Sept. 15, when the USO Naples and the Welfare Recreation Association (WRA) joined forces to bring the first-ever Pizza Fest to the Support Site. Unless you have a brick woodfire oven in your home, going out to a local pizzeria may the only way to taste a real Neapolitan pizza. However, for some families, getting off base can be a challenge. “Our car isn’t working well these days, so this couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Sheila Ludwick. “This is our first ‘pizza fest’ and so far it’s great. The pizza is really good.” The festival generated high turnout and positive feedback from the community, said Luisa Mazzella, USO Naples’ operations manager. The response was exactly what Mazzella was hoping for, she said. “This event was all about giving newcomers and community members the unique opportunity to taste authentic Neapolitan pizza right in their backyard,” said Mazzella. “Look at all these people… this is amazing.” The event couldn’t have been pulled off without the WRA, said USO Naples director Sabrina Pullido. “WRA went to great lengths to organize the logistics of having a traditional wood pizza oven for the event, as well as the set up for what one might typically find at the downtown fest,” Pullido said. The new petroleum product coupons for NATO forces in Italy will be on sale at Navy Exchange outlets beginning Sept. 26. The coupons will be valid from Oct. 1, 2012 through Sept. 30, 2013. All new gas and diesel coupons may be redeemed at any AGIP or ENI station beginning Oct. 1. Any gasoline coupons purchased in advance will count against the October ration allowance and cannot be used until Oct. 1. Current coupons will be accepted by AGIP and ENI dealers through Sept. 30. In addition to the new petroleum product coupons, the new liquefied petroleum gas coupons will be available at the Navy Exchange beginning Oct. 1. Expired petroleum product and liquid petroleum gas coupons may be returned to the Navy Exchange at either Capodichino or the Support Site in Gricignano for a refund within 90 days of the expiration date. see GAS COUPONS Page 5
