JFC Naples says goodbye to Bagnoli By Melissa Kabukuru, Panorama editor

lmost 60 years of history and partnership were recalled Monday during a ceremony signifying Allied Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples’ official departure from its longtime base in Bagnoli. After 59 years operating out of the complex in the western district of Naples, JFC is moving to a new installation in Lago Patria, a community northwest of the city. Monday’s event marked the last official ceremony that will take place at the base in Bagnoli. While speaking to a crowd of service members, dignitaries and civilians from various nations, JFC commander Adm. Bruce W. Clingan spoke of JFC’s promising future at its new location. “While this ceremony signals the end of an era for this command… our departure from Bagnoli should not be discouraging,” Clingan said. Clingan thanked the city of Naples for its hospitality over the years, and said that the command is fortunate to be staying close by. “Bagnoli will long be remembered as a place where NATO service members and civilians came together as free men and women, with common ideals and a respect for each others’ rights, thoughts and beliefs, to work and live as a true international community — (one) focused on forging a brighter, more secure future,” Clingan said. The mayor of Naples, Luigi De Magistris, also participated in the ceremony. While addressing the crowd, he spoke of the “historic ties” that have connected JFC Naples and the city of Naples through the years, both economically and culturally.

one of three local job sites to learn more about STEM careers. One of the most popular workshops took place at the U.S. Army Veterinary Treatment Facility, where girls watched intently as veterinary employees demonstrated how to check a dog’s pulse and use dental instruments on dogs’ teeth.

“I hope they walk away with an appreciation of science and veterinary medicine,” said Dianna Marler, a veterinary technician. “There is so much you can do. This is just a sneak peek. I hope all these girls decide to join the veterinary field.” see EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS Page 4
