McDonald, USS Nimitz Public Affairs The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68), along with embarked Carrier Strike Group 11, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11, and Destroyer Squadron 23 arrived in Naples, Italy for a port visit, Oct. 30. The visit allows Nimitz Strike Group Sailors and Marines the chance to experience the local culture and customs, as well as a variety of recreational activities, after being at sea for more than 70 days.
The ship's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) office has set up a number of tours and hotel stays while Nimitz is in port. The tours include trips to Pompeii, Naples, Rome and the Vatican. "It is very exciting to have this unique opportunity to visit Naples on a Western Pacific deployment," said Capt. Jeff Ruth, Nimitz commanding officer. "The crew has performed exceptionally well, meeting every challenge presented to them on this deployment. They deserve this great opportunity and will certainly enjoy the sites,

annual the Spooktacular, Halloween event hosted by Naval Support Activity Naples, was held Friday at the Support Site central park for more than 3,000 people. The event was held from 6 - 9 p.m. with food and music ongoing until 10 p.m. for those not afraid of the dark. “We had a hay ride that will take you to the haunted house and a hay ride to nowhere,” said Cathy Knapp, Spooktacular director. “That one is just for story telling. We have trick-or-treating, we have a maze that we created and we have a pie-eating contest.” The central park took on a total transformation for the event and commenced with a big boom from a fireworks display. Local organizations, such as Naples Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Association’s (NESPTA), handed out candy to the children. see SPOOKTACULAR Page 4
