May 2, 2013 Accelerated A/C Turn-On Schedule for Support Site Housing Mirabella will accelerate the schedule for turning on air conditioning at Support Site Housing. The previously announced schedule (that began on May 16) can be disregarded. The two-week process will now likely begin in the coming days. The specific schedule will be released in a special PAO note and through Facebook once finalized. NSA Naples Implementing Direct Assignment Policy The Navy pays rent for all Support Site housing units regardless of occupancy. As a result, the government unnecessarily pays twice when units are empty and military families who choose to live on the economy are paid Overseas Housing Allowance. Since government resources must be more efficiently utilized given budget constraints, NSA Naples is implementing a Direct Assignment Policy. Beginning June 1, all incoming active-duty personnel (E1-O6) on PCS orders to Naples with family will be assigned Military Family Housing when available. Personnel will receive assignments based on pay grade and family composition. Prior to arrival, incoming personnel are advised to account for the square footage of government-controlled housing and ship/store household goods as required. Square-footage information for government quarters can be found on Housing pages at www.cnic.navy.mil/Naples. Contact the Housing Service Center or visit the Housing’s Facebook page for more information. Automatic Car Wash Machine at Support Site Now Open The automatic car wash machine at Support Site that was closed for renovation is now open. New accessories have been added to clean wheels, wax (using Rain-x), and dry vehicles. The machine can accommodate cars, SUVs or pick-ups and is located behind the NEX Auto Port. For more information, call DSN: 629-4971 or 081-568-4971. Previously Closed Cabins at Carney Park Now Open Carney Park cabins #1, #2, and #3 are now open for community use after drinking water test results have confirmed that the water is safe. These cabins were closed in August 2012 to complete remedial actions needed to reduce lead levels in the drinking water. Internal water lines were repaired and replaced. After testing confirmed that the water now meets environmental guidelines for lead in drinking water, the Preventive Medicine Authority declared the water potable on Friday, April 26. To learn more, contact the Preventive Medicine office at DSN: 629-6299 or 081-811-6299.
