May 9, 2013 Delamping Lights at Capo to Save Energy Public Works Department Naples will soon begin delamping select exterior light fixtures at Capo to save energy. Utility costs account for one-fourth of NSA Naples’ operating budget. This project is expected to produce a cost savings of nearly $10,000 annually. If you notice that a light fixture that is out, please check the light post for a sticker that says, “This fixture has been delamped to SAVE ENERGY,” before reporting it to Public Works. NSA Naples tested one of its emergency message systems on Wednesday, May 8, by sending text and voice messages to community members. If you did not receive these messages, you may not be registered in the Computer Desktop Notification System (CDNS) / Wide Area Alert Notification (WAAN) system. CDNS and WAAN registration is required for all military, civilian and contractor personnel with a OneNet user account. Personnel should register their office email address and phone number in the system, but can also include cellphones as well as contact information for family members. OneNet users can sign up by right-clicking the purple globe at bottom right of the desktop task bar and selecting “Access Self Service” option. Personnel outside the OneNet system can send an email to the NSA Naples Emergency Management Office at thomas.short@eu.navy.mil and king.navarro@eu.navy.mil. Family members must register through their sponsors. Online Payment Now Available for Base Phone Bills On-base residents now have the option to pay their base residential phone bill online. To pay online, go to www.pay.gov, enter “Naples” in the left-column search box under Find Public Forms, and click “Go.” Next, select “Base Communications Office Naples, Italy” and enter the Naples user code, which is “BCO.” Select “Continue” and enter your personal information as required. Alcoholic Beverage Containers Banned in Florence’s Historic Center All are advised: Florence has a ban on individuals taking alcoholic beverage containers into the city’s historic center from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The restriction is currently in effect until Sept. 29 to prevent injuries and property damage. The city mayor has directed retailers, including bars and supermarkets, to not sell alcohol in takeaway containers during the restricted hours.


New A/C Turn-On Schedule for Support Site Housing Mirabella will accelerate the schedule for turning on air conditioning at Support Site Housing. The previously announced schedule (that began on May 16) can be disregarded. The two-week process will now begin on May 13. Here are A/C turn-on dates with the associated building numbers. May 10: Deadline to Sign Up for May’s Marketplayce The deadline for participants to sign up for a monthly Marketplayce (MP) event held at the Support Site community center is Friday, May 11. MP provides an opportunity for U.S. active duty, civilians, contractors, NATO ID cardholders and their families to promote arts, crafts and registered home-based businesses. There is a $10 fee for registration. This month’s MP is scheduled for Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants must be registered with the base legal office. May 10: Conference on Human Trafficking The Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC) will host a conference about human trafficking at Support Site’s community center on Friday, May 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. All community members are invited. Events are scheduled to include the viewing of “Slaves No More,” a documentary on human trafficking with adult themes but no explicit material. Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase hand-crafted items made by former trafficking victims; proceeds will benefit victims directly. Refreshments will be available. May 10: Comedy Entertainment at O’Rhys Pub O’Rhys at Support Site will feature Don Barnhart’s All-Star Comedy Show on Friday, May 10 at 8 p.m. The show’s comedians will include Don Barnhart from the movie “Finding the Funny,” Jeff Capri from Comedy Central, radio personality Slade Ham, and Keith Lyle from the movie “The Hangover.” The show is for adults only. May 11: JFC Naples Field Gun Team Demonstration at Support Site The JFC Naples Field Gun team will conduct a demonstration for community members on Saturday, May 11. The event will begin with a parade at 11 a.m. from the fire station at Support Site. There will also be a photo opportunity and physical training session for children as well as a demonstration of the Field Gun Run in the commissary parking lot. The team is preparing to compete in a field gun competition that will be held in the U.K. next month. The team consists of personnel from France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the U.S. and the U.K., and will be the only international team invited to the competition. May 11: Deadline for Submissions to Join School Advisory Committee Community members willing to serve on the Naples Elementary School Advisory Committee (NESAC) should submit their bios to sacnapleselementary@gmail.com by Saturday, May 11. The committee is seeking four professional school employees and two parents to serve on the 2013-14 and 2014-15 NESAC. This is a two year commitment to the school and students. Committee members attend a one-hour meeting at 3 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month to advise the principal on school policies, programs and resources. Bios should include name, telephone number, email address, position desired (parent or staff member), projected rotation date (PRD), and no more than a 250-word explanation on what qualities the applicant will bring to the board. May 14/16: Summer Teen Employment Program Meeting & Job Fair The Summer Teen Employment Program will hold an introductory meeting at the Support Site movie theater on Tuesday, May 14 at 5 p.m. Meeting attendees will be given priority during the selection process. On Thursday, May 16, a teen job fair will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Youth Center. Teen employment opportunities during the summer are for U.S. ID cardholders (ages 15-18). Jobs are available at Fleet and Family Support Center, MWR and Child and Youth Programs, with a maximum of 25 hours per week. Application packets are now available at the Teen Center. May 15: Fire Alarm Testing at Capo Food Court Fire alarm and safety system tests will be conducted by Public Works at Capo’s Bella Napoli Food Court on Wednesday, May 15. The test is scheduled from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The food court will remain open to customers during testing. May 16: Baby Basics Class A monthly class on newborn care (bundling, diapering and bathing), feeding, baby health, and safety is scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. The class is open to U.S. military and NATO ID cardholders and will be held at the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) office located in room G-16 of the Admin II building at Capo. May 16: Naples Middle/High School “Music on the Lawn” Event Community members are invited to a “Music on the Lawn” event at the Support Site amphitheater in Central Park on Thursday, May 16. Members of the Naples Middle/High School music program are scheduled to perform starting at 6 p.m. Performers will include the Beginning Band, Middle School Choirs, Beginning String Ensemble, Intermediate Band and Intermediate String Ensemble. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. In the event of rain, the event will be rescheduled. May 17: Armed Forces Olympics 2013 at Carney Park Community members are invited to Carney Park on Friday, May 17 to witness a full day of command camaraderie and competition. May 17: Free Beauty Tips for Beauty Night at Navy Exchange As part of a customer appreciation celebration, the Navy Exchange is scheduled to offer free beauty tips to community members in the cosmetics section of the main store on Friday, May 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Hairdressers and makeup artists will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to provide personal advice. May 18: America’s Armed Forces Kids Run at Support Site America’s Armed Forces Kids Run (for children ages 15 and younger) will be held at Support Site’s Central Park on Saturday, May 18. A 1-mile race is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. and a 2-mile race will directly follow. Parents are welcome to run alongside their children during the races. May 18: Navy Exchange Customer Appreciation Event The Navy Exchange is scheduled to host a customer appreciation event for all community members on Saturday, May 18 at Support Site. Festivities will kick off with an MWR Armed Forces Kids Day Run at 8 a.m. Four commands are scheduled to serve food; the Fire Station will provide a bounce house for kids; and the event will include a car show. May 18: Open House at Naples NATO Yacht Club U.S. members of the Naples NATO Yacht Club (NNYC) will host an open house for community members on Saturday, May 18. Starting at noon, attendees will have an opportunity to tour the club’s facility on Pozzuoli Bay and receive information about learning to sail. May 21: Sexual Assault Awareness Session / Comedy Show for All Hands All hands are invited to an entertainment and training event at the Capo theater on Tuesday, May 21 from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Comedian Bernie McGrenahan is scheduled to perform a live show called “Comedy is the Cure” to convey an inspirational message on sexual assault prevention and other hot topics. May 23: Navy College Office to Administer ACT The Navy College Office is scheduled to administer the ACT on Thursday, May 23. May 26: Naples NATO Yacht Club Open Day The Naples NATO Yacht Club (NNYC) will begin its sailing season at Nisida with Open Day on Sunday, May 26. The day will include an international regatta and the annual Admirals’ Cup. The event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and is open to all U.S. service members, their families, and all current and retired NATO personnel. A lunch buffet will be available for free to all active-duty NATO ID cardholders and their dependants. All other NNYC members and guests will be asked to pay €7.50 to cover the cost of the meal. June 8: Tiger Shark Carwash Fundraiser at Support Site Naples Tiger Sharks will be conducting a carwash fundraiser on Saturday, June 8, at the Fire Department facility on Support Site. Community members are invited to bring their cars from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Tiger Sharks will also offer grilled hot dogs and other refreshments.
