May 30, 2013 Naples E-3 Sailors May Need to Retest for Navywide E-4 Exam Navywide E-4 advancement exams completed by Naples-area E-3 personnel in March have not yet been received or processed by Naval Education and Training Professional Development and Technology Center in Pensacola, Fla. PSD Naples has received confirmation that the tests reached the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Origin Sort Facility in Jersey City, N.J. USPS personnel are currently searching their facility for the exams. If the exams are not located in the near future, all eligible E-3 Sailors will be allowed to retest in September. Test scores from September will be applied to March Cycle 219 and retroactively scored. This means that Sailors who advance from September Cycle 220 will receive E-4 pay as if they advanced through March exam results. Off-Base Residents Must Use New Digital Decoders All off-base residents who have not yet exchanged older models of AFN television boxes for new digital converter boxes must now do so. AFN Europe is eliminating one of two satellite transponders June 4, meaning all AFN decoders other than the new CISCO D9865 will no longer work. Off-base residents who signed a lease through the housing center are eligible to exchange the older decoder boxes for the new ones at the Teverola Housing Warehouse. New iPads & Cameras on All Computers at Liberty Center The Liberty Center is now offering iPads for free use by single and unaccompanied Sailors (E-6 and below). In addition, the Capo facility has installed new cameras on all computers, and more improvements are forthcoming. Elevator Inspections Planned for June at Capo Required bi-annual inspections will be performed on elevators in all buildings at Capo, June 12-26. Each building’s elevators will be tested in accordance with the schedule below. Personnel are not expected to experience significant impacts. June 4: Battle of Midway Commemoration at Capo All personnel are invited to a ceremony at Capo on Tuesday, June 4, to commemorate the Battle of Midway. June 4: Naval Hospital Starts Walking Group at Support Site U.S. Naval Hospital Naples will start a weekly walking group at Support Site for community members on Tuesday, June 4. The group will depart from the hospital quarterdeck at noon each Tuesday. Participants have the option to join a weight-loss support group immediately following the walk, which will meet in the Hospital Health Promotions Conference Room. June 5: Italian Army Band Performing with CNE Band at Capo The Fanfara dei Bersaglieri, an Italian army band that plays its instruments while running, is scheduled to perform with U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band on Wednesday, June 5. June 5/7/10/11: Naples Tiger Sharks Summer Swim Program and Team Evaluations Naples Tiger Sharks will hold a summer swim program and swim team evaluations during the first two weeks of June at Capo’s indoor Fit Zone pool. demonstrate basic swim stroke skills and be able to swim two of the four competitive strokes for 50 meters without stopping. June 7: Motorcycle Safety Standdown at Support Site A motorcycle safety standdown will be held at Support Site on Friday, June 7, for all motorcycle and scooter operators. The daylong event will begin 8 a.m. at the motorcycle safety training range adjacent to the Navy Exchange parking lot. The hands-on training is scheduled to include a slow speed competition for larger bikes, various riding exercises, and group rides to destinations of choice. Each command is encouraged to provide a group leader for their riders and have a route planned prior to the standdown. June 8: Tiger Shark Carwash Fundraiser at Support Site Naples Tiger Sharks will be conducting a carwash fundraiser on Saturday, June 8, at the Fire Department facility on Support Site. June 12: Summer Hours in Effect for School Age Care Playground / Pavilion Starting Wednesday, June 12, the School Age Care playground area (adjacent to the Support Site library) will be closed to community members from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during weekdays except for Fridays. MWR will use this area for a summer camp program scheduled to run June 17 through Aug. 23. June 21: British Festival in Lago Patria The British military community is scheduled to host a festival called British Fete 2013 on Friday, June 21, at British Forces School and the new British Forces community center near the JFC base in Lago Patria. The festival will be held between noon and 5 p.m. All U.S. service members, NATO personnel, and their families will receive free entry. The event will include live music, barbecue, a magician, and other performances. Attendees are advised to park at the JFC base and access the school grounds by using JFC’s rear pedestrian gate. June 7-8: Coaches will evaluate children planning to participate in summer gymnastics classes at the Youth Center to determine their ability level. The upcoming gymnastics season for youth will run differently from previous seasons. Children ages 5-14 will be placed in groups (e.g., Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3) based on level of experience. Parents will be given a placement form upon completion of the evaluation to hand in for summer registration. Registration is scheduled to take place June 10-17.
