Gold Star Families Designated Parking Spaces Now Available Surviving families of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines are known as Gold Star Families (GSF). Four designated parking space for GSF will be available in Gricignano at the Fleet and Family Service Center, Village Forum, the Naples Commissary, the Navy Exchange, and the US Navy Hospital. One designated parking space for GSF will be available on the ground floor of the East Parking garage at Capo. Reminder: Fall Furlough Dates for Schools at NSA Naples The Mediterranean District office for Department of Defense Dependents Schools has announced the furlough schedule for regional schools. School Year 2013-2014 will begin as scheduled on Aug. 26; however, Naples Elementary School and Naples Middle/High School will close as a result of scheduled teacher furloughs on the following dates: Aug. 30, Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Sept. 23 and Sept. 30. Reminder: NEX Offering Online School Meal Payments for 2013-2013 School Year The Naples NEX will soon offer parents and guardians the convenience of making secure, cashless payments online through MyPaymentsPlus, for their children’s school meals. The online system, www.MyPaymentsPlus.com, will also offer mobile apps for smartphones and tablets, and is scheduled to be utilized for the 2013-2014 school year. It will allow parents to make one-time or auto payments, check balances, and receive reminders via email. Parents will still be able to add money to their child's account by visiting the NEX customer service desk. Reminder: Plan for Reduced Pet Care from Support Site Vet in July The Naples Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) anticipates a reduction in access to care starting in July, due a staffing shortage. VTF hours of operation will remain 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, appointments and availabilities for surgical procedures will be more limited. Pet owners are asked to please plan accordingly. The VTF has a list of contacts for local care to assist community members who are unable obtain access to care from the Support Site clinic as quickly as needed. Reminder: Availability Reduced at NGIS for Guest Room Furnishings Replacement Room availability at Capo's Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS), building 449, will be reduced from October through November/December for a room furnishing and fixture replacement project. Community members are advised to plan accordingly.


Now-Aug. 23: Summer Hours in Effect for School Age Care Playground / Pavilion School Age Care playground area (adjacent to the Support Site library) is now closed to community members from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during weekdays except for Fridays. MWR will use this area for a summer camp program scheduled to run now through Aug. 23. In addition, the pavilion area between the fire station and Youth Center will be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the same timeframe. June 19-21: 5th Deck of Capo’s East Parking Garage Closed The fifth deck of the East Parking Garage at Capo will be closed from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19 to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 21. Commander, Submarine Group 8 is schedule to hold a change of command ceremony in this location. Base security will tow vehicles left in the area during the time period reserved for the top-deck closure. Extra shuttle bus runs from Support Site to Capo are being put in place to ease parking strain during morning and evening commutes. Extra shuttle riders should plan to park in the lot adjacent to the Navy Exchange. All personnel are asked to plan accordingly. June 20: NMCRS Baby Basics Class A monthly class on newborn care and other useful tips for expecting parents is scheduled to be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, June 20. The class is offered by Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) visiting nurses and is open to U.S. military, civilians and NATO ID cardholders. June 21: USO Golf Tournament Join the USO Friday morning, June 21 at Carney Park for a fundraising golf outing. Sign up with Neil Higgins (626-1769) or the Golf Pro Shop. Spaces are limited. June 21: Capo Motor Vehicle Registration Office Closure Due to Italian Rest Day Friday, June 21, the Personal Property Office and Support Site Motor Vehicle Registration Offices will open for information and for emergency services only. Capo Motor Vehicle Registration Offices will be closed on Friday, June 21, while the Vehicle Processing center will remain open for normal operations. Both offices will be open for normal business on Monday, June 24. June 21: British Festival in Lago Patria The British military community is scheduled to host a festival called British Fete 2013 on Friday, June 21, at British Forces School and the new British Forces community center near the JFC base in Lago Patria. The festival will be held between noon and 5 p.m. All U.S. service members, NATO personnel, and their families will receive free entry. The event will include live music, barbecue, a magician, and other performances. Attendees are advised to park at the JFC base and access the school grounds by using JFC’s rear pedestrian gate. June 24: USO Support Site Summer Cookout The USO is sponsoring a barbecue in conjunction with the “Summer Reading Event” kickoff. The cookout will feature sizzling hot dogs, chips and refreshing juices, and will


be at the Support Site Village Forum from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Stop by with the family and enjoy lunch, compliments of your USO. June 24-Aug. 23: Children’s Summer Reading Program at Support Site Library Kids (ages 3-13) may sign up at the Support Site library for this year’s “Have Book – Will Travel!” reading program. A free starter kit and book log will be provided to youth participants. Check the library’s calendar for scheduled programs and activities associated with this summer’s reading program. June 26: New Recycling Receptacles Delivered to Support Site Residences New color-coded recycling receptacles will be placed at all trash collection points at Support Site. More information on the recycling process will be distributed via a trifold flyer, along with biodegradable bags, from the Housing office. June 27: Project Armor Youth Program Begins for the Summer Students 12-18 years old are eligible to participate in the Project Armor program this summer, designed to train youth to be role models, sources of information, and educators in living healthy lifestyles. Applications are accepted continuously as the program runs through the school year. The first meeting of the summer will take place on Thursday, June 27 at 11 a.m. in room 112 of the Naples High School. Following meetings will be held every Tuesday and Thursday. Project Armor students will earn community service hours and receive a letter of recommendation upon completion of at least one community project. June 28-30: Fourth of July Invitational Softball Tournament The Fourth of July Double Elimination Softball Tournament and Home Run Derby will be held at Carney Park, June 28-30. The tournament is open to community members at least 18 years old and not in high school. Teams must register by June 13. The cost per team is $250. June 29: Festa Americana (Fourth of July Event) at Carney Park NSA Naples will hold its annual Fourth of July event at Carney Park on Saturday, June 29. Festa Americana will include a high-wire act, fireworks display, food booths, craft tables and more. All community members with park access are invited, and may sponsor up to six guests. MWR is currently looking for base-recognized, private organizations to sell items at food booths and craft tables. Volunteers are also needed to help run the event. Festa Americana Access Policy and Bus Transportation Access to Festa is open and free to all US military ID card-holders, local national employees, and JFC Carney Park privilege card-holders. Eligible patrons may sponsor up


to 6 guests per ID card into the event. Guest access passes will be available for purchase until Friday, June 28. Bus transportation is available for Festa to alleviate high traffic; registration deadline is Wednesday, June 26. Following registration expiration, patrons may still ride on a space available basis. Individuals staying in TLA can show their room key or "priority bus pass" at the ITT offices and register to ride the buses for free. Guest access passes and bus passes are available for purchase online at http://www.mwritt.org and can be picked up at both ITT Offices, the Liberty Center, the Support Site NOR Center and Carney Park NOR Center (for those with access to Carney Park), and the Auto Wood Skills Center. July 1: New Hard Card Security Badges Implemented Beginning Monday, July 1, new hard card passes will be issued by base security to single-day sponsored guests aboard Capo and the Support Site. Sponsors and guests will apply for installation access and receive a temporary paper pass. Upon proceeding to installation entry points, sponsors and visitors will be issued numbered hard cards, to be worn as badges. To receive the hard card, guest photo identification will be required and retained by security for the duration of the sponsored visit. July 19: Tiger Shark Fundraiser at Carney Park Golf Course Naples Tiger Sharks is hosting their annual Golf Tournament on Friday, July 19, at Carney Park Golf Course. Check-in time is 9:30, start time at 11 a.m. Many Specialty prizes will be awarded, including Longest Drive, Accurate Drive, Longest Putt and Closet to the Pin. All U.S. ID cardholders are invited to participate. $35 entry fee, plus green fees. All proceeds go to assisting the Tiger Sharks reduce their up coming travel season. Additional MWR Updates  Now: Registration is open for Youth Sports’ fall season at the Support Site Youth Center from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Soccer is for children ages 3-17 years old, flag football is for children ages 9-14 years old. The cost for a family’s first child registered is $60. There will be a 20 percent discount for the remaining siblings. Participants ages 9-17 must attend a team assessment for both soccer and flag football. The team assessment is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Carney Park on Saturday, Aug. 24.  Summer Hours for the Carney Park and Support Site pools are now in effect. Carney Park pool opens Fri-Sun, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. The Support Site pool is open Fri-Tue, from noon to 7 p.m. and will remain open for Thu, July 4.
