Combined Federal Campaign- Overseas Underway Your opportunity to give to your favorite charity through the Combined Federal Campaign- Overseas (CFC-O) began Sept. 8. The CFC-O is the annual workplace giving campaign for the five overseas unified combatant commands. The Defense Finance and
Accounting Services (DFAS) myPay system offers contributors the opportunity to electronically pledge via payroll allotment. In addition, the CFC-O eGiving system allows contributors to complete a one-time or monthly recurring paperless contribution via credit card, debit card or transfer from a checking or savings account. Contributors can access their giving options and a list of charities at www.cfcoverseas.org by clicking the “Donate” button. Be on the lookout for your unit coordinator.
Reminder on Appropriate Use of Military Post Offices The use of Military Post Office privileges does not extend to the receipt or mailing out of any items intended for resale. The resale prohibition applies whether the sale is to authorized Military Post Office users or to charitable organizations. Sending or receiving items to advertise home businesses, to sell merchandise or to conduct business for commercial purposes is also prohibited. Volunteers and Trick or Treat Space Decorators Needed for Spooktacular This year’s Spooktacular event will be held at the Support Site Central Park on Friday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 10 p.m. Teens and adults can register to volunteer for the hayride, distribute tickets, decorate the event or help out with activities. Groups, families and private organizations can adopt a Trick or Treat space for free, but have to decorate it and have people available to hand out candy, which MWR will provide. Trick or Treat space decorators could win a Bowling Party or 3D Movie Party for up to 30 people. Sept. 13: Bridge Cleanup Outside Support Site Join the Naples Area Second Class Petty Officer Association for a volunteer effort to clean up the bridge outside the Support Site on Saturday, Sept. 13. Volunteers 18 years or older can meet at the TLA bus stop at 8 a.m. with a safety vest or reflective clothing. If you have rakes, shovels, hedge-trimmers or other yard tools, please bring them. Sept. 13: USO Jazz Under the Stars Join the USO at the Village Forum Square on Support Site from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 for an evening of jazz with a Big Band ensemble. The 19 piece Allied Forces Jazz Diplomats, from U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band, will perform. Attendees can also enjoy an evening dining alfresco under the soft glow of candle light as food vendors and free seating will be available. Sept. 13: Trekking Day with NOR Center Put on your hiking boots and join Navy Outdoor Recreation for a day on one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Campania Region. Participants must be 15 years or older and ages 15-17 must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian. Cost is $30 per person and includes guide and transportation from the Support Site. Wear sturdy hiking boots and bring snacks, lunch, water and euros for incidentals. The minimum is 5 and the maximum participants for the tour is 8. Sept. 17: Transitioning Process Brief for Service Members and Spouses The Fleet and Family Support Center will be holding a standalone brief on Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Capodichino Chapel. It is designed for service members and their spouses who are transitioning soon, retiring with TRICARE or Survivor Benefits Plan questions, or have questions regarding the check-out process or their Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits. Representatives from Personnel Support Detachment (PSD), TRICARE, Survivor Benefits Plan and Veterans Affairs will be there to answer questions about the transition process. Sept. 17: Child Find Developmental Screening at Elementary School The first child find screening will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Naples Elementary School. Any child between the ages of 3- 5 can have a free developmental screening. Pre-registration is required for the screening. Sept. 18: NMCRS Baby Basics Class A monthly class on newborn care and other useful tips for expecting parents is scheduled to be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Sept. 18. The class is offered by Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Visiting Nurses and is open to U.S. military, civilians and NATO ID cardholders. Sept. 19: German Oktoberfest 2014 at JFC Naples The German military community is scheduled to host the German Oktoberfest 2014 on Friday, Sept. 19 between 11:30 a.m. and midnight at the Motor Pool of the Allied Joint Forces Command’s Base in Lago Patria. All U.S. service members, NATO personnel, and their families are welcome. Sept. 19: U.S. Air Force 67th Birthday Golf Tournament The U.S. Air Force 67th Birthday Golf Tournament will be held at the Carney Park golf course on Friday, Sept. 19. The four man scramble tournament will begin at noon and cost each person $30 plus green fees. 50 percent of entry fees will be returned to players as prizes. Sept. 19: Navy Second Class Swimmer Qualification Testing Navy Second-Class Swimmer qualification testing will take place on Friday, Sept. 19. It is open to active-duty personnel. Requirements include 25m each of front crawl, back crawl, breast-stroke, elementary backstroke; abandon ship (tower) jump into deep water; timed prone and supine floats. Sept. 20: Day For Kids and “Color It Up” Fun Run This year’s Day for Kids will be held at Carney Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 and is open to the entire community. The Color It Up Fun Run will begin at 10 a.m. and is open to all children and adults. Registration is open through the event date at a cost of $15 per adult and $10 per child.
