Naples Receives Results from Radon Study NSA Naples recently received results from a year-long indoor radon monitoring study, which is part of an ongoing Navywide radon monitoring program. Radon detectors were installed in Navy facilities at Capodichino, Support Site, Gaeta, Carney Park, and Navymanaged buildings at Allied Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples in Lago Patria. These detectors were placed in basements and ground-level indoor spaces inhabited, or that could be inhabited in the future, at least four hours daily. Of the approximately 1,600 pairs of detectors collected and analyzed, 24 were above the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) action level and require mitigation. No housing units tested exceeded mitigation action limits. Mitigation measures are being taken for the 24 sites above EPA action levels and will be re-tested once mitigation is complete to verify radon levels are below the EPA threshold. Approximately 200 radon detectors from the year-long study were not found and are being re-tested for six months. Those sites are currently being re-tested and will also be mitigated and re-tested if found to be above the EPA radon threshold. To view the sample results, visit the NSA Naples website at www.cnic.navy.mil/regions/cnreurafswa/installations/nsa_naples/om/environmental_sup port.html. New TASI Tax for Residents of Economy Housing A new 2014 Italian tax makes residents and homeowners of economy housing responsible to pay a TASI (Tassa Servizi Indivisibili) based on the real estate value of the property. The rate of this tax is established by each municipality and is based on property value. Similarly, the percentage to be paid by residents is established by each municipality and can be up to 30 percent of the total TASI. A resident’s portion of the TASI should be in the range of 60-150 euros per year. Community members, assisted by Housing as needed, must talk with their landlords to get the Italian Tax Form F-24. Once properly filled in, TASI forms are then paid at local banks and post offices. For questions or additional help coordinating with landlords, contact Housing at DSN 629-4466 or 081811-4466.
