NSA Naples Hosts First Coffee with the Captain By Lt. Jamie Moroney NSA Naples Public Affairs

Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples Commanding Officer (CO) Capt. Todd Abrahamson hosted the first Coffee with the Captain event at the Support Site food court, August 14. Coffee with the Captain is an informal town hall where members of the Naples community have the opportunity to sit down with the CO of the installation to ask questions or provide feedback. “We had a good turnout for the first-ever Coffee with the Captain,” Abrahamson said. “Our community members came prepared with really great questions and feedback. With this feedback we have the opportunity to improve the lives and morale of our teammates in the Naples community.” Some of the questions and feedback from the event can be read below with responses from subject matter experts onboard NSA Naples: Concern: Trash pick-up on Support Site is a problem. “Our ability to have our waste removed is directly impacted by the city of Gricignano and the region of Caserta. When they don’t provide the trash trucks, we engage with the mayor and regional government. For example, these last two weeks there was a backup in trash base-wide. This was due to limited capacity at the primary landfill in the region. Trucks from around

Naples were waiting in dumping lines, unable to unload their waste, for days on end. When public works learns of these issues we do our best to broadcast them to the community for their understanding.” Lt. j.g. Zach Christensen Assistant Public Works Officer For ways to stay informed on what’s happening on base, please see the bottom of this article. Concern: Air Conditioning on base isn’t functioning. “If you have an identified issue in a building or apartment, please follow these steps for resolution: 1. Call the Housing Trou-

ble Desk. They will take the information. 2. Trouble Desk personnel explain our process and forward the information to the contractor. 3. Usually, within the hour, contractor personnel have made contact with the resident and worked to solve the issue. 4. Housing quality assurance personnel follow-up with the service call to verify operational satisfaction and close out the ticket. This process may take a few days to complete. During working hours, if a resident is experiencing issues with their A/C, especially during these hot months, please give the Housing Trouble Desk a call at DSN 629-4285 or

629-4286. For off-base housing, please call DSN 629-4466. On host nation holidays, U.S. holidays and after hours, residents should call the NSA Quarterdeck at DSN 626-5547 or commercial 081-5685547. If your issue is incomplete or not completed to your satisfaction, you can contact the Installation Housing Director at DSN 629-4410 or email marvin.mullins@eu.navy.mil. Adm. Mike Gilday relieved Adm. John Richardson as the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) in a ceremony, August 22 at the Washington Navy Yard. Gilday became the 32nd CNO, the U.S. Navy’s most senior officer. As a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CNO acts as an advisor to the President of the United States, the National Security Council, the Homeland Security Council, and the Secretary of Defense. Under direction of the Secretary of the Navy, the CNO is responsible for the command, utilization of resources, and operating efficiency of naval forces and shore activities assigned by the Secretary. The Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer acted as the presiding officer and guest speaker at the ceremony. In his speech, Spencer focused on the Navy’s many accomplishments during Richardson’s tenure. “The Sailors serving this nation are constantly on Adm. Richardson’s mind and close to his heart. As much as Adm. Richardson has done for our capabilities and processes, he’s done more for our people. Thanks to his efforts, the men and women of the U.S. Navy are safer, better prepared, and better commanded while standing watch around the world.” ADM GILDAY NEW CNO
