D-Day Forever Intertwines Past, Present, Future By Army Staff Sgt. Tamika Dillard U.S. Army Europe

The village of Tournieres, France, like many other small French municipalities during World War II, was heavily occupied by German forces and very unaware of its fate. However, it would later realize the name Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, and his First Advance Headquarters Supreme Allied Expeditionary Force Headquarters, known today as Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, U.S. Army Europe, would forever be a part of its history. This year marks the 74th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 -- most commonly known as D-Day. The events of D-Day forged partnerships and reinforced trans-Atlantic bonds that remain strong today. D-DAY FOREVER

You Have Your Move Dates – What’s Next? By Tia Nichole McMillen

Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Sigonella encourages Sailors and civilians to start planning now to navigate through the peak season household goods moving rush as tens of thousands of personnel receive orders to new assignments across the nation and worldwide. Peak season for household goods moves runs now through August 15. During this time, almost 65 percent of all Department of Defense (DoD) household goods

(HHG) moves for the year will be executed. Once you schedule your move dates with your local PPO/HHG office, it’s time to get ready for your actual move. Listed below are some steps to streamline your move. Create a Moving Binder – Keep everything related to your move in this file. One way to organize is with plastic pocket folders that are organized by subject – medical, pet, school, HHG, POV, etc. Civilians will want to print your most recent LES, IPMS/close-out, and rotation agreement. In fact, print several

copies of your rotation agreement and orders. Personalize your binder to fit your needs. Purge, Purge, Purge – Moving is the perfect excuse to go through boxes and items one-by-one and ask those tough questions: Do I need this? Do I still want this? Can this be recycled / freecycled? Start as early as possible. If you have the luxury of time, one plan of attack is to tackle two rooms a weekend. Make those social media posts advertising your treasures and get them out of the house. CAPTAIN’S CORNER By Capt. Todd Abrahamson NSA Naples Commanding Officer

Spring cleaning is a great way to keep the base looking good and our work spaces organized. The Naples Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) team is supporting this effort with their annual spring cleanup event starting next week and running throughout the month of June. They’ll be accepting items such as printers, office furniture, unused office equipment, mattresses and computer accessories. They’ll even be going door to door, visiting commands in order to help with inventory and paperwork. Please note that this is only meant for disposing of work-related materials, not personal property. I strongly urge everyone to take advantage of this great resource, not just for beautification of the base, but also to make sure we are all disposing of government property in accordance with DOD instruction and Italian law. This is part of doing the basics right and therefore also part of staying mission focused. For more information about DLA’s spring cleanup program and how to participate, please contact them at DSN 314-632-6056 or 314-632-7352. We’ll also be witnessing some truly exceptional people receiving well-earned degrees next week at the Navy College Office’s graduation ceremony. One of the best things the military offers to its personnel is the chance to better ourselves through advanced education opportunities. Taking advantage of these opportunities requires hard work and dedication, and for that reason we should offer hearty congratulations to our community’s graduates. On Thursday, 104 of them will be receiving associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degrees in the Capodichino theater. Please join me in giving them a BZ and a high five for the outstanding work they’ve done to reach this important milestone. For the 525 other Sailors currently enrolled in classes here in Naples, keep up the good work and stay focused! Speaking of graduations, congratulations to all of the students graduating from Naples area schools next week. We’re proud of your hard work and the positive roles you play in our community. We’re also appreciative of the support you provide as members of military families. On a related note, after the much deserved graduation celebrations next week, don’t forget to get a Father’s Day present! If you’re out of ideas, the traditional treat to give your dad in Italy is a tray of zeppole pastries. Even though Italian Father’s Day was on March 19th, you can probably still ask your local bakery to make some! As always, thanks for reading the Panorama! For more information about NSA Naples, please follow us on Twitter @NSA_Naples and Facebook at facebook.com/NSANaples/ Buon fine settimana – and remain vigilant.

Italian Researchers Discover Plastics Polluting Ocean at Alarming Levels The Italian environmental institute ISPRA released a study on Monday saying that half of the turtles in the Mediterranean have plastic in their bodies. The study took one year, and was spread across the Mediterranean. The ISPRA scientists and partners found plastic in 53 percent of turtles, 187 live and 424 found dead on beaches. More than 63 percent of those found dead had plastic in their digestive systems. The European Union has proposed a ban on single-use plastic items that make up 70 percent of all the waste in EU including straws, cutlery, plates and cotton swabs in a bid to clean up the oceans. The law draft needs to be approved by all EU member states and the European Parliament, and it could take about four years to come into force. Airline Travel Increasing The civil aviation authority ENAC announced that Italy’s air passenger travel rose to nearly 175 million last year, with low-cost airlines continuing to overtake other carriers. The Rome Fiumicino airport handled the most passengers followed by Milan’s Malpensa airport. The number of passengers traveling through Naples Capodichino airport was 8.5 million last year.

Italy’s New Government Sworn In Italy’s new government was sworn into power last Friday afternoon, bringing to power a coalition between the League party and the 5-Star Movement, following months of political turmoil after the March elections. Giuseppe Conte, an academic law professor, was sworn in as the new Prime Minister. The 53-year-old was sworn in alongside his cabinet, with M5S leader, Luigi Di Maio, and League chief, Matteo Salvini, in key ministerial posts. Di Maio is labor minister while Salvini is interior minister. The government is a mixture of party politicians and technocrats, five of whom are women. On Tuesday, the new coalition won a confidence vote in the Senate, with lawmakers in the upper chamber approving its government program. The government won the confidence vote by 171 to 117, with 25 senators abstaining. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister addressed the Chamber of Deputies for a confidence vote on his program, the second of two after the vote of the Senate. The result of the mandatory vote on Conte’s coalition was 350236, with 35 abstentions. The government political agenda says it will target mitigating poverty, creating jobs, helping young people and families, focusing on the introduction of the citizen’s and the abolition of the Fornero (pension) Law.

HISTORY: BATTLE OF MIDWAY SPOTLIGHT: JUNE 4-7, 1942 LS2 LARISSA YUNKER From National World War II Museum

On June 7, 1942, the Battle of Midway – one of the most decisive U.S. victories of World War II – came to an end. In the four-day sea and air battle, the outnumbered U.S. Pacific Fleet succeeded in destroying four Japanese aircraft carriers with the loss of only one of its own, the Yorktown, thus reversing the tide against the previously invincible Japanese navy In six months of offensives leading up to the Battle of Midway, the Japanese had triumphed in lands throughout the Pacific, including Malaysia, Singapore, the Dutch East Indies, the Philippines, and numerous island groups, including a successful surprise attack at Pearl Harbor, just six months earlier. One of Japan’s main goals during World War II was to remove the United States, which they perceived as a

growing threat in the Pacific theater, before it was large enough to outmatch the power of the Japanese fleet. With the fall of Wake Island to the Japanese in late December 1941, Midway, a little-known, but strategically important atoll about 1,300 miles northwest of Oahu, became the westernmost U.S. outpost in the central Pacific. And, ultimately, a prime target for Japan. Japan hoped to defeat the U.S. Pacific Fleet and use Midway as a base to secure dominance in the region. The United States was aware that the Japanese were planning an attack in the Pacific at a target they had code-named “AF.” Navy cryptanalysts had begun breaking Japanese communication codes in early 1942. The attack location and time were confirmed when the base at Midway sent out a false message that they were short of fresh water.

U.S. Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless dive bombers from the USS Hornet about to attack the burning Japanese cruiser Mikuma for the third time on June 6, 1942. U.S. Navy photo

Japan then sent a message that “AF” was short of fresh water, confirming that the location for the attack was the base at Midway. Station Hypo (where the cryptanalysts were based in Hawaii) was able to also give the date (June 4th or 5th) and the order of battle of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Early morning on June 4th, aircraft from four Japanese aircraft carriers attacked and severely damaged the U.S. base at Midway. nese, the U.S. carrier forces were just to the east of the island and ready for battle. After their initial attacks, the Japanese aircraft headed back to their carriers to rearm and refuel. While the aircraft were returning, the Japanese navy became aware of the presence of U.S. naval forces in the area. TBD Devastator torpedo bombers and SBD Dauntless dive bombers from USS Enterprise, USS Hornet and USS Yorktown were sent to attack the Japanese fleet. The Japanese carriers Akagi, Kaga, and Soryu, were hit, set ablaze, and abandoned. Hiryu (the only surviving carrier) responded with two waves of attacks— both times bombing the USS Yorktown, leaving her severely damaged, but still afloat (she would later be sunk on June 7th by a Japanese submarine). That afternoon, a USS Yorktown scout plane located the Hiryu and the USS Enterprise sent dive bombers to attack. The attack left the Hiryu burning and without the ability to launch aircraft. Over the next two days, the U.S. Navy and U.S. forces on Midway continued their attacks, forcing the Japanese to abandon the battle and retreat to Japan.

USO Naples is honored to recognize Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Larissa Yunker as its Volunteer of the Month for June because of her dedication to the Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples community She selflessly works toward creating a safe, engaging environment for all she comes in contact with. “I volunteer with USO Naples to give back to the community,” Yunker said. “The mission is near and dear to my heart. Being a single Sailor isn’t easy, and the USO provides opportunities to come together through volunteering and hosting targeted programs and events.” Yunker absolutely loves being a part of the “Cup of Joe with the USO” program, and has taken on the lead role hosting it every Wednesday morning outside the Capodichino Air Terminal. “Larissa is always ready to step up, and give her all to the community while fully embodying the USO spirit,” USO Center Operations Specialist Michael J. Owens said. With her generous heart, and endless enthusiasm, Yunker balances a heavy, mission-focused workload with her volunteer service and it is an honor to have her in our USO Naples family.

The losses suffered by the United States were not cheap: Approximately 307 men, one carrier, one destroyer, and more than 100 aircraft. By comparison, the Japanese losses were staggering: Approximately 4,800 men, four carriers, one cruiser, and hundreds of aircraft. “Pearl Harbor has now been partially avenged,” Nimitz wrote in his now-famous June 6 communiqué to Washington. “Vengeance will not be complete until Japanese sea power is reduced to impotence. We have made substantial progress in that direction. Perhaps we will be forgiven if we claim that we

are about midway to that objective.” Nimitz’s words were to prove prophetic. The Battle of Midway inflicted irreparable damage on the Japanese carrier force, such that they could no longer put together a large number of fleet carriers with well-trained aircrews, bringing Japanese and American sea power to approximate parity – and marked the turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II. In August 1942, the great U.S. island-hopping counteroffensive began at Guadalcanal and did not cease until Japan’s surrender three years later.

Area Scouts Attend 2018 International Scout Camp in Belgium From Scout Troop 007

Boy Scout Troop 007 based at Support Site recently sent 13 Scouts to the 2018 International Scout Camp in Sint Truiden, Belgium. They were just a small part of a gathering of 3,000 scouts from all over Europe, too include Belgium, Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania and Ukraine. The camp is held each year over the Whitsun weekend and the nations rotate responsibility of hosting the camp. Intercamp was founded in 1966 when a group of British Scouts, organised the “Rheindahlen District Scout Camp” on the airfield at Wegberg Hospital, near to Mönchengladbach, Germany. There, the British Scouts invited a local German scout troop and a Dutch scout troop to participate in the camp. This camp was such a great success, with many friendships formed, that it has continued to this day. The general aim of the Intercamp is the development of international goodwill and friendship through a weekend scout camp and carrying out a programme guide by the scouting principles supporting team-work and sympathy. Therefore each organizing scout association will produce a programme on a more specific theme. This year’s theme was aimed at ending global poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity for all. As standard practice at the camp, the Scouts from every troop are split up and combined with other Scouts to form daily patrols. In their mixed patrols, the Scouts had two days of events. Day one saw the patrols participate in various challenges that were focused on making the world a better place. Day two was a 10mile hike, where most of the Scouts got to

take in the beautiful Belgium countryside. A small number of hiking groups were selected to help with a local service project at the city cemetery outside town. While the Intercamp was the main reason for this trip, Troop 007 made a side trip the day prior to earn the BSA Battle of the Bulge Historic Hiking Badge. The Scouts gathered in the center of the town of Bastogne, where Brig. Gen. McAuliffe famously replied “Nuts” to the Nazi demand for the unit’s surrender during the Battle of the Bulge. From there, the Scouts explored the town of Bastogne before hiking to the Bastogne War Museum and Mardasson Memorial. This is just one amazing trip for the Scouts of Troop 007 in a long line of European adventures. Last year the Scouts also camped on the beaches of Normandy and at the International Scout Camp in Kandersteg, Switzerland. However, not all their adventures take them outside of Italy. They have also gone whitewater rafting, zip-lining, tackled ropes courses and sea kayaking all within a stone’s throw of Naples. However, Scouting is more than just campouts. During their weekly meetings, the Scouts learn a variety of Scout skills that range from cooking, citizenship, physical fitness, first aid and more. Troop 007 meets Monday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. during the school year. Eligibility for joining Boy Scouts is 11 years old, or have completed the 5th grade or earned the Arrow of Light Award and is at least 10 years old, but not yet 18 years old. The Troop is also in need of adult volunteers. For more details about the Boy Scouts or volunteering email Scoutmaster Chris Upton at Christopher.upton@eu.navy.mil or Committee Chair Eric Howland Eric Howland at 4howlands@gmail.com

ENERGY CONSERVATION Keeping Your House Cool During the Summer From NSA Naples Energy Management Team

As the summer months drop by, we will hear the sound of air conditioners using enormous amounts of kilowatts. However, the load can be reduced and shortened if we do simple things. These things were common before air conditioning was common in North America. Here are some tips for keeping cool. It is best to keep the heat out of your home in the first place than trying to pump it out after is gets in. In Naples, it is difficult to purchase a more efficient air conditioner or put a fancy film on the windows. But good news is there are three simple actionable items that will keep you from running your air conditioner all day long. Cooling an empty house We all love the feeling to come home and relax after work with the air cool. So it’s important to cool an empty house while we are at work and the office at night so we don’t have to take time out of our busy work schedule to fix it. So set a timer before you come home and contact your Maintenance Service Representative if the air conditioner is not running. Most buildings already have timers in accordance to the change of the seasons. What cool temperature is comfortable? If you set your thermostat at the highest cooling setting, it will work less and you probably won’t notice a difference. Shutting your blinds during the day When the suns radiation enters your home it heats the air on the inside. During the day, keeping your blinds closed will help cool your home when you return from work and notice the temperature relatively cooler. If you done the opposite, the heat would have changed the temperature upwardly, especially if those blinds face directly in the sunlight. For more tips, visit energysaver.gov

JFC Naples Commander Welcomes the European Association of International Studies (AESI) By Diana Sodano

Students and academics from the European Association of International Studies (AESI) were welcomed by Joint Force Command Naples Commander Adm. James Foggo during a conference focused on “The European Union and NATO: Security and Peace in the Mediterranean Area” on June 4. Foggo centered his message to the academic staff and students on the “bridge” as a metaphor for building and sustaining peace. In recalling “The Bridge on the Drina”, a novel written by Ivo Andríc, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1961, Foggo emphasized that peace can be obtained and safeguarded

by building bridges and opening those that are blocked. Bridges are one of the most important infrastructures and symbols in human history, both in a physical and a spiritual sense. They symbolize peace and prosperity, because when they are open and accessible, people mix and get to know each other, commerce and ideas flow, and humanity prospers. When bridges are destroyed or blocked, peace is hampered. Foggo narrated his visit to Mitrovica, Kosovo, last February when he and Major General Cuoci, Commander of Kosovo Force (KFOR), went to Mitrovica and asked the Mayor of Mitrovica South, Agim Bahtiri, and the northern Mayor, Goran

Rakic, to cross together the main bridge which represents the symbol of a divided city, asking them to open it as soon as possible, because the main bridge should unite and not divide. Foggo welcomed the work that AESI performs worldwide in building bridges among academics and students from warring parties, creating the premises for mutual understanding among peoples. Professor Massimo Caneva, AESI President, talked about the role and the activities of the association. AESI is a cultural non-profit non-

partisan association that has as its main target the promotion of human rights in politics and international cooperation. AESI wants to develop in particular, with its activities, a real culture of cooperation among populations and Nations. AESI wants to contribute to the training of those young students who are preparing themselves for a diplomatic career or a career in European or International Institutions. Topics included the EUNATO Cooperation on challenges in the South, the NATO Strategic Direction

South Hub, the Joint Operation Center, the role of international civilians in NATO and cyber security. At the end of the presentations, after a round table discussion with the briefers, the delegation had the opportunity to visit Foggo’s office where he shared personal stories relating to his European roots. This AESI visit is part of the community relations campaign to establish cultural and social exchange with the external community and to strengthen the relationship with local and regional institutions.

D-DAY FOREVER

From page 1

Overall, U.S. service members from 20 units in Europe and the United States will participate in events and ceremonies in almost 40 locations throughout the Normandy region of France as part of Joint Task Force Normandy 74 until June 7. U.S Army Europe soldiers, World War II veterans, local leaders and residents gathered at the General Eisenhower Monument here June 2 for a wreath-laying ceremony to pay homage to the memory of the Americans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for liberation of the people in this region of France. Tournieres, liberated June 9, 1944, served as the hub for the first military command post on the European continent from August through September 1944. Guest speakers for the occasion were Lt. Gen. Christopher Cavoli U.S. Army Europe commanding general, and Susan Eisenhower, the granddaughter of the late General Eisenhower. U.S. Army Europe Patch “It is a privilege, not least, because of the patch I wear as the commanding general of U.S. Army Europe,” Cavoli said. “It is similar to the patch that General Eisenhower’s headquarters used; in fact, we inherited directly the history of his headquarters. “Every time I put on this patch, it reminds me of the sacrifice of the greatest generation as they brought peace to Europe,” he continued. “It reminds me of the huge price that the United States, France and all of our allies paid to liberate this continent.”

Cavoli then explained the symbolism of the patch he and all the soldiers of U.S. Army Europe wear on their uniforms every day. “The symbolism of the patch is important and powerful,” Cavoli said. It began with a Norman shield, which was originally black, representing the occupied continent; the flaming sword is the sword of freedom, the sword of liberation and the sword of justice; the rainbow contains the colors of the national flags of the alliance. All of this is below a blue sky -- the symbol of a peaceful future for Europe. Memorial in Washington Under Construction Eisenhower’s granddaughter and newly appointed honorary citizen of Tournieres reverberated the same message before unveiling the design of the new Eisenhower Memorial, currently under construction in Washington, D.C. “The new design will display the beaches of Normandy in peacetime,” she said. “It will be important for all of us as this memorial will link forever in the American mind our deepest connection to this part of France. It will serve to symbolize for all of America … the vital importance of our alliance.” Cavoli emphasized the importance of this event and those taking place over the following days. “Celebrating commemorations of the liberation of this continent is very important,” Cavoli said. “It serves as a reminder to ourselves, the cost of liberty and the price we’ve paid as a country along with our allies, for the freedom we all enjoy today.”

MOVE DATES

From page 1

In the long run, this helps prevent potential over-weight entitlement issues. Go on a Shopping Diet – Diets are daunting, but this one is helpful. A month or so before your move, take a mental inventory of your personal care products, household staples, and pantry items. Figure out how to use these items or how to donate them. Find out your mover’s policy on dried goods and personal care items. If you can’t use everything, have a plan in place to donate them to some Sailors, Marines or friends who can. Make a Supply Box – Have a small box readily available as a central location for all of your moving supplies. Suggested items include packing tape, scotch tape, sharpies, highlighters, post-it notes, scissors, Clorox wipes, paper towels, color coded room labels, contact info and blank labels. Become a ‘Colored Tape’ Mover – While this may seem over the top, many frequent movers swear by color-coded tape. Before the movers arrive, create a colored coordinated chart using your tape. For example, bathroom items may be coded yellow, kitchen items red, living room items green, bedroom #1 blue, bedroom #2 purple, etc. Set the tape and chart aside in your supply box. When the movers come, label each box with tape as the movers pack them. This will help you organize when you get to your new location. Another step is to help movers on the other end of the move by placing a piece of color coordinated tape on the floor or door of the room you want boxes delivered. For example, if you used blue for the bedroom #1 when you packed from Sicily, you would mark the new bedroom #1 in Jacksonville with blue tape for movers to coordinate between boxes and delivery room. Make a First Night Box – This can either be a box that comes in your early shipment or a checked bag. This is, ideally, the first box you’ll open at your new location. Items may include: - Linens (wrapped in scented trash bag): clean sheets, pillows, blanket, towel, loofah, wash cloth, etc. - Bathroom stuff: Bath mat, shower curtain, roll of toilet paper and paper towels - Cleaning essentials: Swiffer sweeper and cloths (still sealed and taped), trash bags, dish soap, hand soap, wipes, etc. - Basic tools: A simple tool set with hammer, scissors/pocket knife, can/bottle opener, tape measure, lightbulbs (if compatible with your new location’s electricity) and a flashlight) - Kitchen items: A few dishes and utensils, a coffee pot, cups, mugs Pack your On-The-Plane Bag – This is all the stuff that you’re going to take with you. This includes everything you couldn’t possibly live without. Items may include your moving folder, cell phone and

11

charger and SIM card for new location, laptop and cord and carrying case, checkbook and all “extra” credit cards, favorite jewelry, immediate pet needs, medicine, chargers, adaptors, itinerary information, important papers, etc. Organize your Things – The Transportation Service Provider (TSP) is not responsible to remove art, shelves, etc. from your walls. Take pictures down and put them in one area for easier packing. Separate PBP&E – Don’t forget to put all of your professional books, papers & equipment (PBP&E) in a separate area so that it is inventoried and weighed separately. You don’t want that heavy PBP&E to count against your weight entitlement. Empty your Trash – Empty all of your trash cans before the packers arrive. You would not believe how many times trash has been packed in someone’s HHG shipment. Designate a No Packing Room – Think of it as your safe space to lock up everything that isn’t going in UB or HHG – including your pets. Mark the door with a giant red tape “X” to be extra safe. Enlist your Friends – Managing a move is tough for one person. Buy some pizza and cold drinks for the movers and your friends and have a plan in place for your move. Clean – Keep supplies handing for a final cleaning, or schedule a cleaning with a professional. It’s imperative that the property is cleaned when you leave. ‘KIT’ – When you are traveling keep in touch with your TSP via their 800 phone number. Even though they are required to keep you informed of the status of your shipment remember, it’s the busy season and they might not reach out to you as often as you would like. Contact them and ask questions about the status of your shipment. Has it left? Is it on its way? Will it make the required delivery date or does it look like it will get delayed? Even though a move is time-consuming and takes proper planning to execute, being proactive and following these steps should help. Remember, it’s your move. Contact your local personal property staff or self-counsel with Defense Personal Property System (DPS). If you plan to move soon and have your official Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders, don’t wait, get started now. DPS online is available 24/7 for you to initiate your moving application. For details visit http://www.move.mil DPS is innovative in that it allows the member to manage their move from origin pickup to destination delivery. Sensible Safety Tips for the Summer Holidays From NSA Public Affairs

As we near the end of the school year children everywhere are cheering. That also means the start of plans for summertime play and vacations. These helpful hints may ensure you stay safe while having fun with your friends and family. On the Road ● Buckle up ● Pay attention, more vehicles will be on the road, including an influx of motorcyclists. ● Drive at safe speeds. Leave enough travel time in advance to avoid the urge to speed. ● Use a designated driver; if you plan on drinking, plan on a safe and sober ride. ● On the way back, drive well-rested, be patient, and remember roads will be congested. Sun Safety ● Avoid sun exposure during the hottest hours of the sun’s rays. ● Apply sunscreen with a SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 15, paying special attention to the face, nose, ears and shoulders. ● Wear a hat. ● Wear sunglasses with UV (Ultraviolet) Protection. ● Drink plenty of water and non-carbonated drinks, even if you do not feel thirsty.

Grilling Safety ● Always read the use and care manual before operating your grill. ● Never leave grill unattended when in use. ● Preheat grill to no higher than mediumhigh. Temperature of grill should be 400 to 450°F because high heat and excess fat can cause flare-ups. ● If flare-ups do occur, move food to a cooler spot on the grill or temporarily cut off the air supply by closing lid or shutting the air vents. ● To avoid flare-ups you should drain off excess marinade or oil before putting food on grill, trim excess fat to 1/4-inch on steaks and chops, and remove skin and excess fat from chicken pieces. Water Safety ● Swim in supervised areas only. ● Obey all rules and posted signs. ● Don’t mix alcohol and swimming. Alcohol impairs your judgment, balance, and coordination, affects your swimming and diving skills, and reduces your body’s ability to stay warm. ● Stop swimming at the first indication of bad weather. Remember to make safety awareness part of your summer holiday planning. A moment’s inattention is all it takes for an accident to happen. Be prepared by being aware of potential summer holiday dangers.
