Kenyan startup Ecobodaa plans to launch the first electric motorbike built and assembled in Nairobi
Ecobodaa aims to provide a more affordable, safer, and environmentally-friendly means of transportation for commuters. It will serve as a better alternative for taxi drivers who rent their motorbikes at high rates. 4

A prototype motorbike has already been developed for the beta testing phase. A removable 72v Lithium battery which can last for 60 – 75km per hour is installed in each e-bike. The battery enables the bikes to consume less fuel and reduces the overall cost of maintenance. Ecobodaa will also track driver’s performance through a route playback system to show the distance covered as well as the speed of the bike.
There will be battery swap stations for drivers to swap drained for fully charged batteries at strategic locations. The drivers will be able to enrol in a “leaseto-own credit model” to purchase the bikes in due course.

Microneedles enable pain-free injections and blood testing by avoiding contact with nerve endings.
The length is about the depth of a sheet of paper and the width about that of the human hair, they penetrate the dead top layer of skin to reach into the second layer – the epidermis – consisting of viable cells and a liquid known as interstitial fluid. 99

Because these devices insert drugs directly into the epidermis or dermis, they deliver medicines much more efficiently than familiar transdermal patches, which rely on diffusion through the skin.
This can also be valuable for treating skin disorders such as psoriasis, warts and certain types of cancer: mixing star-shaped microneedles into a therapeutic cream or gel. The needles’ temporary gentle perforation of the skin enhances passage of the therapeutic agent. Microneedle devices could enable testing and treatment to be delivered in underserved areas because they do not require costly equipment or a lot of training to administer. These painless prickers can be expected to significantly expand drug delivery and diagnostics and new uses will arise as investigators devise ways to use them in organs beyond the skin. 10

While remittances are usually sent to families, Kenya’s diaspora can now make investments through the African Diaspora Asset Managers (ADAM), an investment firm that has been granted the first licence of its kind for a diaspora fund by the Kenyan Capital Markets Authority. The fund is expected to provide a safe and regulated investing body for Kenyans living overseas. It also allows payments to be made using Kenya’s popular mobile money platform M-Pesa, enabling Kenyans to make investments from as little as five dollars.

The movie ‘Citation’ not only sheds light on gender based violence in the African Educational system, it also explores the power that can be wielded when we speak up about these challenges even when the chances of being heard is bleak.
