West Kaipara community groups, churches, business leaders, clubs and societies joined forces to deliver a huge free banquet on Christmas Day, collaborating to ensure that nobody missed out on the fare and festivities of the season. The original idea for the event began small, with a meeting hosted by mayor Craig Jepson in late 2023. A venue was found, at the Nazarene Church hall, and, in the mayor’s words, “everybody got on board from there. “It’s a fantastic show of support,” said Mr Jepson on Christmas Day as he helped to prepare food ahead of the feast. “A real credit to everyone who has helped make this possible.” On December 24, prepara tions began in earnest, with volunteers from a wide range of community-minded groups pitching in to assist.
