The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme encourages students to be an all-round person regardless of their background. “To earn the award is quite an undertaking, and it gives the students recognition for their CV, a prefect position or university hall,” says assistant principal Nicky Cotching. “It gives participants adventurous journeys such as kayaking in the Whanganui River or tramping Tongariro National Park. For the expedition part, they do training first and learn different roles such as being a leader, navigator, first aid person and tail-end Charlie before going on their actual expedition.

voluntary service, learning a skill like driving, cooking or card games, and finally, they have physical recreation such as a sport like soccer. “Mangawhai walking tracks were great. What the trackies have done is amazing, and the camping ground was an awesome experience too. I highly recommend students experience doing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.” Year 9 student Ben Lawson says the recent tramp took around six hours on day one. “Our tramp was over two days, and we went along the clifftop walk with our packs on,” says Year 9 student Ben Lawson.

“If something is going to cost money, we fundraise. On each trip, the teachers try to be the shadow party and let the children lead the mission. We do step in when necessary. “This group is preparing to go to the Pinnacles in the Coromandel. The students love it, and we have a number of teachers, parents and community members who go on the trips to help, which we really appreciate. “We have lots of different groups go through the award levels of bronze, silver and gold. You need to be 14 and over for the bronze, 15 and older to do silver and at least 16 to do the gold award. “The students log their progress as they go. Other components include

“We had only the water that we brought with us to drink unless we wanted to fill it up from one of the many waterfalls. The walk took us to the trig station on the Tanekaha trail, from where you could see as far as Waipū if you looked in the right direction. “We set up camp at around 4.30pm in the Mangawhai estuary campground and started to make dinner at around six. “Day two was the hardest day to set off on due to your legs feeling like they were going to fall off, but once you started, you realised that the pain was minimal. The clifftop walk was difficult for some but the views and walk back along the beach made it all worth it.” ¢

Bream Bay Coastal Care Trust is moving forward with its environmental tasks — it’s calling for volunteers to help in local areas needing attention. “The trust has been organised for almost 20 years, in Ruakākā, looking after the environment and wildlife refuge and working on conservation land,” says BBCCT spokesperson Lu Cummings. The trust takes care of four sites at Ruakākā Dune Lake, Wildlife Refuge, Uretiti and Paradise Shores. Its activities include planting of natives, weeding and trap setting for noxious pests. “There are only a few of us in the trust, and we are looking for more volunteers. It is monthly work, and even in between if we find volunteers to help us to do weeding, spraying, and looking

environmentally friendly. Schools come to help us with the planting too.” “We look after the dunes. The environment was badly looked after before the trust was formed. Cars had been driving there by the nesting sites and we are trying to protect the birds. The group collects local seeds that are bagged and dried before being sent to Northland Regional Council to cultivate seedlings at its nursery. These are returned for permanent planting on its sites. Bev Woods established the Bream Bay Coastal Care Trust. Its goal is to

We usually start early in the morning and do a working bee every month and swap between the four sites. “We’ve been doing a lot of planting and weeding around the dune lake. It was an old pine and Australian wattle tree forest that had been cut down by the Department of Conservation, and the trust is replacing it with native plants. “We are trying to establish a forest in Ruakākā and want to show the local people that what we are doing is

We also have a Bream Bay Coastal Care Trust Facebook page,” Lu said. The trust has planned a planting bee at the Ruakākā Dune Lake on Wednesday, June 15, between 9am and 2pm. “The dune lake project began around 2009 when we gained funding from the NRC to fence off the south-western edge of the lake,” says trust member Marylin Cox. The Marsden Lions Charity Golf Tournament saw 72 players competing for the hole in one challenge on the 13th hole as they raised funds for charity. “The players enjoyed a beautiful day and once again were competing for the Hole in One challenge on the 13th hole,” says Marsden Lions secretary Gladys Rowsell. “The event has been going for many years now and was established to raise funds for the charities such as the Northland Emergency Services Trust, Ruakākā Surf Lifesaving Club, Ruakākā Volunteer Fire Service and St John Bream Bay. “We believe all of these charities don’t get enough government funding, and we all know someone who has needed the services over the years. As a community, we like to show them our support and appreciation for all they do. “They also support things like our parades and events, and that connects us as well. “No one managed to win the Hole in One challenge, although Roy Law from the Waipū Wobblers received the generous $500 for being closest to the pin, which was sponsored by Fuso, and Michele Gibson presented Roy with his prize. “Marsden Lions members were on the course early, setting up signage on the putting green, preparing the BBQ and
selling raffle tickets. Golf coordinator Keith Harris was again in charge of getting the teams away and ensuring the rules were adhered to. “Keith was awesome at getting the scores in to find the winners on the day, which was the Tara Iti Caddy Shack Hacks. “We can’t do these events without our major sponsors, Active Electrical Solutions, Atlas Concrete, Barfoot and Thompson, Bream Bay Village, Keith Andrew Trucks, FUSO, Metalcraft, NIWA, Rockcote Resene and Trigg Construction. “We also appreciate the other sponsors and small businesses who donated products and vouchers for prizes, the raffle and auction, hole sponsorship and donations. “Neil, Nikki and staff at Ocean View Cafe were extremely supportive of the event and served a great meal. The Waipū Golf Club staff, greenkeepers and members who assisted us on the day also helped make the tournament another memorable event. “We are very thankful for the community support and have again met the target of raising more than $10,000 for our charities. We have a meeting on June 7 and will decide how we are

Fruit of the gods u by Liz Clark
A few years ago, while visiting a heritage property at Mangawhai, I was shown the largest avocado tree I had ever seen. It was a wonderful old tree groaning with large, round, green fruit ready to pick. Until then, I had never really associated avocado trees with the home garden, more with the domain of commercial orchards. More recently, I found a self-seeded tree growing at the base of one of my banana palms. However, fruiting will take at least another eight years or more, as is the case with most avocados grown from seed. The avocado originates from the South American continent, where it was cultivated by the Inca, Maya and Aztec
cultures before the arrival of Europeans during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Later the trees found their way across the globe and developed into the cultivars we know today. Being subtropical, it’s a tree that does not like frost. It’s mainly grown in Northland, Bay of Plenty and Hawke’s Bay regions. However, in coastal and sheltered areas with mild winters, there are varieties that can tolerate cooler conditions. Avocados thrive in a warm, sunny situation with well-drained organicrich soil. Shelter from strong winds
is essential to prevent the blossoms and fruit from being dried out; use windbreak cloth as protection. If frost is an issue, using frost cloth will prevent burning of the leaves. Planting should be done in late winter and early spring after the danger of any further cold snaps has passed. In cooler regions, leave planting your trees until late spring and early summer. During the dry summer months, add a deep layer of mulch around the tree’s drip zone to keep the roots cool and the soil moist. Placing mulch against the trunk should be avoided. Water if the top
10cm of the soil surface is dry. There are several available varieties that can be planted in home gardens without the need for a large space. If you do have a lifestyle section or block, there’s more scope to add to the home orchard. It’s advisable to plant more than one tree for successful fertilisation so the fruit can form. Varieties to look for when visiting your local nursery are Bacon, Cleopatra, Hashimoto, Reed, Hass, Fuerte and Zutano. More information on avocados can be found online, or talk to your local garden professional. ¢

Encounter Church Bream Bay facilitates the opportunity for parents and caregivers to have children play together every Thursday morning at Bream Bay Music and Play. “Our playgroup is Ministry of Education funded for our toys,” says Encounter Church pastor Deidre Patchett. “The group is set up from babies to six-year-olds, and runs from 9.30am until 11.30am. The parents and caregivers who come along love being able to connect with other adults while the children have free play together. “We have a wide range of toys including trucks, doll’s houses, foam play shapes and mats and wooden creative imagination toys, arts and crafts. “There is the option of giving koha on the day, and we have tea, coffee and biscuits available. A friend generously sponsors us with Monsoon Coffee, which is a beautiful coffee. “Playgroup is a great place for young mums and dads to connect, especially those who tend to be isolated at home during the day. “I know people who have come into our community knowing nobody, and bringing their children to play has helped them make friends and be part of a group with common interests in a safe environment. “I have run the playgroup for nearly six years now, and we recently stopped running two playgroup sessions at the Recreation Centre. Due to the Traffic
Light system coming into effect, we only have the Thursday session at the church premises now. “Getting out of the house is good for adults to have connection and support while the children gain socialising skills even at a young age. I think it is really good for people’s mental health to get out of the house as well. “We have lots of things happening at our church, including Encounter Kids on a Sunday, while church is running from 10am until 11.30am. This is our biblical-based children’s programme with lessons and interactive games. We also have Sunday morning creche for two-year-olds upwards. “On Wednesdays, we have our Ladies Connect group bible study, and we have midweek Connect Groups at night. My husband Clint and I also run the Alpha course, which is an eight-week programme where people can come and ask questions that they may have about God. “There is no obligation to join our church to come along, and we often see people who are broken in life come and find answers to help them heal. We work closely with other community connections and offer people options of where to go for the help they need.

Clothing for kitchens u by Ann van Engelen
Waipū Primary School teacher Kellie Stevenson Border is presenting the first Wardrobe to Pantry initiative to help people renew their wardrobes as they fill the pantries of people in need. “I call it the winter warmer sale, and the idea began when I was going through my seasonal clothing clear out,” says Kellie. “For many years, I was a single mum raising my daughter alone, including while I was at university, and I know how hard it can be for parents and caregivers. I was considering selling the clothes I no longer wear and donating the money to charity or using the money for a food bank. “I then had the idea of having other

as canned casseroles, bags of rice, spaghetti, muesli bars for children’s lunch boxes and things to tie people over for a few days. “I think communities are a great place to start helping each other, and our school principal kindly offered the school hall for the event. I have received incredible help from the school staff and the community. Charlotte at Ray White in the village has been a drop-off point and is also looking at producing logos for me in the future.
I wanted things that people want. I am amazed at the clothing and shoes I have received people donate good clothes they no longer want, and people can swap non-perishable food items for clothing. People can bring a box of food to swap for clothing. “They will get a docket and can choose the items they want. Some articles will be worth five food items and some four until it goes to the fill a bag range.” Kellie is aiming for food that is easily accessible and heat and eat, such

“I believe the gap between people who have things and don’t have things has got much bigger. It is no one’s fault — it is just happening. Once you pay your weekly bills and pay $20 a kilogram for mince, you don’t have extra money left. “I wanted things that people want. I am amazed at the clothing and shoes I have received. Some are still in the box or with labels, including Country Road, Witchery, MAX and Zara from sizes 6 to

After the event, I will put up the application process on the Wardrobe to Pantry Facebook page. They can self-refer, or people can apply for families needing help.
“The food parcels will be dropped off at people’s houses or at a nominated collection point. I have never done this before, so there will be trial and error, but I plan this to be the first of many events in the future.” Wardrobe to Pantry is on Saturday, June 11, from 9am to 12.30pm, at the Waipū Primary School hall, 6 Argyll Street, Waipū. ¢

Farmers on the move u by Andy Bryenton
June 1 has become a day of moving and settling up new sales on Kiwi farms, following an old tradition that goes back into the dim depths of history. It’s a move which many city dwellers would envy; coming north to the sunnier weather and coastal beauty of Bream Bay is a dream for many. However, the lifestyle choice is secondary to the potential for productive hard work for those embarking on a new

phase of their farming career in the mid-north. For many years, the traditional moving day for farmers has gone by the title of Gypsy Day. Gypsy Day has little to do with the real Roma people, except its name. The moniker is no insult but rather a favourable comparison. It is a gentle nudge at the farmers and sharemilkers themselves, taking their whole household to the open road to move farms, in a way infinitely less graceful or ordered than the wanderings of the travelling folk in older times. Even earlier than the use of the term Gypsy Day, farms changed hands on June 1 in mediaeval England for a very important reason. Especially in the world of livestock, the most important resource for a farmer was hay. The productivity of a farming area was measured by how much hay could be mown to tide cattle over the cold winters. June 1 was the traditional beginning of the hay harvest when peasants with scythes went into the fields to reap fodder for their animals, and before this harvest was the best time to buy a farm
p This painting by Pieter Breughel of the labours of the month of June shows why the hay harvest was so important in olden times
and assess its worth. The date was kept by the local priest, who would keep track of the calendar to observe important religious holidays and the phases of the farming cycle. While times have changed, and mowing the hay with a scythe is no longer a practice except at historical displays, the farming calendar remains the time clock of rural New Zealand. As the year goes by, those joining us now as new neighbours and colleagues will find help at hand to keep their quad bikes and utes running on cold winter mornings.

They’ll be able to call for aid during difficult calving seasons and summon professionals when it’s time to harvest with modern tools like power rakes and balers. The isolation of rural life has been diminished, with assistance never more than a phone call away. This year, sharemilkers and new farm owners will be on the move for June 1, echoing those days of yore. In modern times, it’s also international milk appreciation day, which fits in nicely with this old farming tradition. ¢

Eliminating environmental pests u by Ann van Engelen
Based in Kaiwaka, Russell Plunkett and Hannah Davies are helping to eradicate pest animals and birds such as possums and turkeys to help protect native plants and animal grazing. “Hannah is a Mangawhai girl, and I am a Paparoa farm boy,” says Russell. “I am a labourer, and Hannah works in building administration. I have been involved in hunting and shooting since I was a child and dislike pests, so the two go hand in hand. “I make it my business and priority to keep our native trees, flora, fauna and wildlife in New Zealand protected. “We started Zero Pest Northland because I have been eradicating pest animals and birds for years, and there is a real need for pest control. “We are pro keeping poisons off the land and offering an alternative pest control solution to the standard poisons and baits. “Poison can take several days to kill something, whereas, with shooting, it is done as quickly as possible. “I completed an online course last year through Land Based Training to gain my NZ Certificate in Pest Operations and Management Level 3. “It was a good experience, and I learned a lot of different aspects of pest control. I now call my tutor Cam a mate who has guided me in many different areas.
“People don’t realise how many native plants we are losing to possums and the like. Once our natives are gone — they will be gone forever. “Hannah and I have removed everything that is not native from our property, and we replanted natives. “With some education, people would realise the benefit of planting native over non-native trees that smell and look pretty and attract possums to native bird nests, which they prey on and eat the eggs or chicks. “Some people think hedgehogs are cute little things, but they are actually very harmful to our natives, insects, seedlings and plants. “Hedgehogs get into pet and chicken feed, they will eat chickens, and if they have disease such as mange, ringworm, mites, fleas and salmonella, it is likely to spread on to humans, pets and farm animals. “When I am out hunting, I target pests such as goats, deer, turkey, hedgehogs, peacocks, rabbits, hare and possums. “Seven rabbits eat the same amount as one sheep in a day, so it isn’t long before the stock pasture is gone. Rabbits not only take our grass, they dig and can

cause a $20,000 bull or horse to break its leg by stepping in a hole. “I look at the pest problems on rural properties and give advice on a management plan. People can contact us on the Zero Pest Northland Facebook page. “Property owners are very grateful for the job we do as they see the pest
decline after several visits, especially with vegetation growth. “We have one of the most beautiful countries there is, so why not look after it when it comes to controlling pests. “No pests means happier farm animals, and happy farm animals make happy farmers, which makes a happier New Zealand in general.” ¢

A rich and growing land u by Andy Bryenton
The east coast of the mid-north, from Bream Head down to the Pākiri beachfront, has been an area where the natural world has supported the people who lived there for centuries. In pre-European times this was the border between the great confederations of Ngāti Whātua and Ngapūhi, the people of the mid-north and far north. Specifically, the people of Te Uri o Hau were well established in the upper reaches of the Kaipara Harbour by 1250 CE. Sometimes the relationship between these folk and their neighbours involved

peace and trade, as the natural bounty of the sea and the inland hills and streams was conducive to commerce. However, sometimes conflict and outright war occurred, as during the musket wars when the fierce battle of Te Ika-a-ranga-nui was fought near Kaiwaka. As with the wars of Europe, this struggle saw the riches of the land, produce and fertile soil as things worth fighting for. Mangawhai takes its name from a prominent chief of the 1800s, Te Whai of the Ngāti Whātua, and the harbour there, Mangawhai, meaning ‘stream of the stingrays’. These creatures were considered sacred and not to be harmed as part of local custom. When European settlers arrived in the area, following a Crown purchase in 1854, they noted that the tangata whenua could traverse their waka from the upper Kaipara at Kaiwaka to the Mangawhai estuary spanning coast to coast. European farmers would soon use this traverse, too, with a wharf being established in what is now the village

Gypsy Week farmer’s club, showing that agriculture was strong even in those early days. ‘On Saturday the 25th May, a meeting was held at the Mangawai (sic) Hotel to commemorate the Anniversary of Her Gracious Majesty’s Birthday, and inaugurate a Farmers’ Society, and for the despatch of other business,’ read a newspaper report from June of 1861. Meanwhile, over the headland at Waipū, farming was also on the rise, as the hardy Scots settlers of that area put the skills they had learned in the highlands and then in Nova Scotia, to work on new shores. Preacher Norman McLeod led his congregation halfway around the world to find a new home. Initially, many of these Scots citizens had taken ships to escape the hardships created by the highland clearances, a series of nigh-genocidal purges waged against the Scots by the English monarchy. Highland folk were used to raising sheep and cattle in harsh conditions, but the diaspora’s first destination, Nova Scotia in eastern Canada, was even bleaker in the winter than the glens of Caledonia. By 1854 a band of settlers had once again followed McLeod to sea, this time settling in Waipū, where their farming skills were utilised in more clement climes. In the half-century to 1914, agriculture boomed as the hard-working Scots settlers established a dairying economy still flourishing today. In 1914 a branch railway line was constructed
to bring the bounty of the Waipū fields to market in Auckland and Whangārei. Ruakākā and Marsden Point also enjoyed a productive farming past, though the point itself, named for the evangelist and missionary Samuel Marsden, has more recently been associated with heavy industry. Few other places in the world can boast the sight of a gigantic oil refinery rising above flat, green dairy land and a white sand beach. The current thrust of port activities in this part of the country is toward facilitating logging. The great pine forest blocks of Northland funnel through to Northport, where the deepwater access allows large ships to load and unload. Today, the east coast is experiencing a massive influx of population, thanks in part to its picturesque seacoast and thriving small towns. However, farming still provides the economic powerhouse behind the coastal enclaves with their new houses, cafes and retail shops. Olives, avocados, vineyards, nut groves, orchards and dairy farms cover the plains and hills, adding to a rich palette of local foods which can be enjoyed fresh from the farmer’s markets the area is famous for. This week, as new arrivals in the rural trades arrive in the area after Gypsy Day, they will find a community that balances the best of cosmopolitan leisure with an extensive support network, enabling the hard work of farming life to continue through all seasons. ¢

Of horses and captured moments u by Ann van Engelen
Jamie Halpin has been involved with horses since she was a young girl and now combines her love of the animals and photography together through her business Emperor Equestrian. “I grew up on the Hibiscus Coast with a non-horsey family, and my two sisters and I became completely horse obsessed,” says Jamie. “My mum had friends with horses when she was younger but had a riding accident, broke her collarbone and never really rode again. “When we were little, mum introduced us to the Pony Club Secrets books.
“
“I was given 10 lessons for my seventh birthday and never looked back. I was completely and utterly obsessed. When my older sister turned 10, she got a lease pony called Flash, and we shared him. “Flash was totally unruly, and we loved teaching him things like to rear up, which in hindsight was a shocking idea. As we grew, he went to different homes, and I
“She got me Caz, who I called my gingernut, and he was the naughtiest pony you could possibly imagine and really aided in my concussion recovery. I would brush him, feed him and sit on him in the paddock, then about six months in, I rode him. “I persisted with riding him, and he taught me so much, and I learned quickly not to be afraid of falling off
I aim to empower other equestrians as I know first-hand the challenges riders have We would ask for a new book for our birthdays and share them amongst the three of us, and we loved watching Saddle Club on television. “We loved horses so much we would sit on our garden fence pretending we were riding. We then played pretend horses and galloped around the garden all day until, eventually, our parents gave in and gave us riding lessons.
am 22 now, and he came back to us and is retired on our land. “When I was 12, I had a freak fall off a friend’s horse and landed on the back of my head, smashed my helmet and got a bad concussion. “I gave up riding and was in rehabilitation for some time when my mum decided it was time to get a pony to get me out of the house and back to the things I love.

again. He was quite comical, and at times would run home, and I would have to go and get him again, and his antics would repeat. “I wanted to compete and showjump him, but he wasn’t treated the best prior to me, so I decided it was nicer for him to semi-retire, and he is still with me today. “I then got my first hack, which was a thoroughbred, and that is when my love for thoroughbreds developed.

I combine both of my passions and ride every day schooling the horses and showcase them through my photos
When I finished school at 16, I applied for a role working with horses at Donna Smith Eventing in Waikato with Donna and her wife Elise to learn more about the industry. “I wanted my own horse business and was considering studying physiotherapy to go into veterinary physiotherapy. I worked with Donna Smith Eventing until four years ago, when I decided to do a psychology degree instead. “I want to be a sports psychologist and work with athletes because I had a few accidents over the years, and my concussion taught me a lot about mental wellbeing. “I don’t have personal goals to compete on the Olympic teams and stuff but would love to contribute to another athlete’s success. “When I began my study, I secured work with a horse sales company called I Spy Horses. I helped run the website and approach different equestrian businesses selling horses to sell on behalf.
”
“I loved the job but wanted to be riding, so I reached out to Donna and Elise again for a groom’s role. They had been at a clinic with a lady called Gina Shick from Event Stars who had a gelding, and Elise thought it would be a great horse for me to work with. “It was always my dream to work with Event Stars, and I moved to Cambridge to ride Goff. He was bred in Ireland and raised in Hong Kong to win just over $5 million and arrived in New Zealand at six years old to retire. Event Stars takes thoroughbreds off the track and work them to be rehomed. “I aim to empower other equestrians as I know first-hand the challenges riders have. I thought I was untouchable once until I had another major fall, but I got myself into a rehab programme with Axis Sports Medicine Specialists. They helped me get as close to my normal prior to the accident as possible. “I want to help people train and be more comfortable in the saddle, especially if something has happened
to stop them from riding at a top level. I want them to enjoy their horses again. “When horse and equestrian is your identity and the biggest part of you, it is shellshock when you can’t ride. By month five of my rehab, I was back on the horse, but the accident reminded me that life is short and to seek what sets your soul on fire. “I am nearly finished with my degree, and it was my partner Josh who suggested I start my own business. He owns JP Marine and is a mobile marine mechanic, and thought if he can have a business, why can’t I. “I love photography and decided to intertwine my two passions with Emperor Equestrian and retrain track thoroughbreds into sport horses for clients and sell on behalf. I have sold horses from up here in Northland through to Invercargill. “I combine both of my passions and ride every day schooling the horses and showcase them through my photos. behalf is ensuring a horse goes to the right home. “I am as honest as I possibly can be to find the best home possible because if you don’t have the right home it can create problems for the horse and rider. “I learned from being based at Gina’s because you don’t want the horse ending up in a welfare issue or anything. I learn what makes each horse special, and I can tailor the horse specifically to a rider. “I was always an arty child and got into photography in school. For me I want photography to be as accessible as possible for people who want to capture memories at an affordable price. “People can find me on my Emperor Equestrian Ltd Facebook page or at emperorequestrian.co.nz website for the horses I am selling, the courses I offer, and book photography. “Horses and photography allow me to meet new people like at events, the Kaipara Hunt or taking family photos which I love. It is nice to be able to mix my two favourite past times together.” ¢

THE WEEKEND LIFESTYLER
Auditions for theatre u by Ann van Engelen
The Otamatea Repertory Theatre is calling for cast members to perform in the upcoming musical, The Revlon Girl. “It is time to dust off the cobwebs as we announce that there will be new auditions for the 90-minute play, The Revlon Girl, by Neil Anthony Docking,” says director Sheri O’Neill. “The play is based on the true events of the 1966 mining disaster in Aberfan, Wales, and tells the story of four mothers grieving the loss of their children. “This Olivier Award-nominated play is a story of survivors, small-town bickering and the redemptive power of make-up. It contains coarse language but is warm, sorrowful, and surprisingly funny as it

a play, and I said no, but then she asked me to read it. I absolutely loved what I read and decided directing would be a fantastic opportunity. “It is set eight months following the Aberfan disaster in which 144 people were killed — 116 of them children. The Revlon Girl tells the real-life story of a group of bereaved mothers who met every week above a local hotel to talk, cry and even laugh without feeling guilty. “After some time, one of the younger mothers feels they have let themselves

Otherwise, I have always been a performer or in production with costume, sound effects and managing. “I have my own theatre group, Platform 13, and presented a Dargaville play and two Shakespeare performances. go and need to do something about their appearance. They get a make-up person in to give them some tips on making themselves look good again. “It is a bit of cloak-and-dagger, as the Revlon girl isn’t from the area and hasn’t lost a child. What I love is it is about these people and we are moved by their experiences and everyone can relate to it. “It shows what happens to ordinary people through greedy corporations and the injustices and what greed causes.
