A 61-year-old North Vancouver man is dead following a house fire Tuesday morning at 2831 Wembley Drive.

District of North Vancouver firefighters raced to the scene around 10:30 a.m. after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls from neighbours who reported heavy smoke coming from an upstairs area of the house. Fire crews arrived and found two bedrooms in the home engulfed in thick, black smoke and one window already blown out of the house, said Mike Cairns, assistant fire chief with District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services. Firefighters discovered the homeowner unresponsive in one bedroom, carried him outside to the front yard and immediately began

The City of North Vancouver’s grandiose plans for a waterfront destination have taken a big step from concept to reality.

The city has named Quay Property Management, the parent company of Lonsdale Quay Market, as its partner for developing The Shipyards on Lot 5 and work is expected to begin this year.

rooms, underground parking and Spirit Trail connections. Mayor Darrell Mussatto said it is a “turning point” for the city. “I think this is a real positive legacy. It’s going to be a great public, open gathering space for everyone. For families, for younger people, for older people and it’s going to make that site usable 365 days a year,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a really great people place – one of the best in the Lower Mainland.” Three firms were short-listed for the work following a request
