We were blown away once again by your participation, casting nearly 6,700 ballots. The sheer enthusiasm from our community for these awards continues to speak to the credibility of the results. We’ve got some rules in place, playing it fair and square. Each ballot had to hit a minimum number of categories, and we stuck to accepting just one vote per IP address. A big shout-out to the winners and finalists of the 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards. They’re the real stars of the Shore, no doubt. But, hey, don’t just take my word for it. established in 1967 by owner and Italian immigrant Mauro Stagnitta. A warm and welcoming place to gather for many North Shore residents, the business thrived for many years. After Mauro’s passing in 1986, his daughter Silvana took on the daunting task of
filling her father’s shoes while in her early twenties. With the support of the barbers on staff, her family, and the North Shore community she was able to uphold Mauro’s legacy not only keep the shop open but grow it. In 2008, Gerardo Leyson joined as a partner, contributing to the continued success of the shop. Today, their clients age ranges from babies getting their first haircuts to seniors who respectfully receive a discounted rate. Lynn Valley Barbershop has a “family-like atmosphere,” says Silvana. “Whether it’s a traditional or modern cut, our skilled team ensures great haircuts at fair prices.” More and more people have come to realize that barbering is an art, a skill, and has interested a stylish, younger generation who love the classic barbershop experience vs. visiting the hair salon. Avita offers a variety of health services including physiotherapy, women’s, and men’s pelvic floor care (which has gained much attention as important in healthcare), registered massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, and clinical counselling. The latter considered a major part of mental health and so important for many individuals. With a large team of thirty-seven practitioners and ten support staff, Avita has been serving the North Shore for over twenty-three years, with no signs of stopping, and has a loyal clientele. Many have been visiting Avita
for the best in wellness care that entire time, and wouldn’t consider going elsewhere. “Avita is all about heart,” says Bachmann. “We genuinely care about our clients and we measure our success by the positive impacts that we make on our patients’ health. We also have a very connected team of staff that love working together.” Ask any regular client and they’ll agree that the positive vibe is warm, relaxing, inclusive and feels very safe. All are welcome. With direct billing for extended health plans and ICBC, Avita aims to keep things easy and simple for their clients however possible. Being open convenient hours beyond the usual 9- 5 of many businesses, means appointments can be made around one’s busy schedule easily. Accommodating the client first, and not the other way around. Pride in the business has been an essential key to the company’s success. Avita practitioners all feel passionate
about their work as professionals, and each have a strong sense of ownership and autonomy within their practice. That means clients can trust that the treatment experience is respected and is a true partnership of trust and good faith between them. “We have never modelled ourselves after other clinics,” says Bachmann. “Our physiotherapists only treat one-on-one and in private rooms. This is different than some settings where practitioners see more than one patient at a time or operate in a common gym area.” The privacy that Avita maintains allows quiet focus for the treatment provider, and a sense of security and safety is created for the client. The business practice is taken seriously at Avita, but the atmosphere isn’t sombre, stuffy or serious in tone, but instead has a sense of warmth and friendliness seen as essential. “We’re very professional, but there’s also a lot of friendly laughter in the
halls,” says Bachmann. That tone helps clients to relax and feel confident in their visit. Since opening in 2001, Avita has a long history of supporting the community beyond just the clinic. From donations to local schools, swim clubs, and charities that fight human trafficking in Cambodia and build water wells in Ethiopia, Avita is committed to giving back in meaningful ways.

Delbrook Community Recreation Centre is a true community gathering spot, a
hub for locals to enjoy the pool, fitness centre, squash and racquetball courts, pottery or art studios, and gymnasium. Pricing of most products is very competitive and often less than what the government stores charge. Customers save 5% when they purchase any twelve bottles.
