President’s Note NSS SRCC works continuously to bring out the best in the society and make the world a better place. Actions do matter but we also believe that it is important that we bring change through our opinions and words. I am proud to lead such a team which tries to achieve these goals through every possible way. The theme of this newsletter is ‘Safar’ which points out an important lesson that it is the journey which matters and not the destination. I believe this newsletter will remind us again how important it is to live and enjoy every moment.

-Adarsh Kariwal

Vice-President’s Note The one word I can use to describe NSS is 'perennial growth'. Every single day, there is an inquisitiveness to question the issues our society is combating, to think of solutions which can be implemented to make the society a much better place. ‘Safar’ is an initiative to encourage young exuberant minds to pen their opinions towards their perception of a better community. Ranting on the problems and issues won’t work, we need to break through the conventional norms and work relentlessly if we want to bring a change. Days may come and days may go; But the zeal shouldn’t die, To develop and grow.

-Anubhuti Gupta

Destiny of Dreams - Rudra "What was your dream?” is a question raised by the Missile Man of India, Dr. APJ ABDUL KALAM. The immediate answer from a child was "to live in a developed India ". This answer from the child made APJ ABDUL KALAM stunned, and later this answer made him introduce the concept of INDIA 2020, A VISION FOR A NEW MILLENIUM and therefore, he dedicated the book to the child. What actually India 2020 means? is a question that strikes every mind. India 2020 is a framework given by Dr. ABDUL KALAM which discusses the procedure to make India a developed nation. In the framework, Abdul Kalam allocates the target for youth to make India a developed nation. The framework contains different key points that they need to take care of in order to make India a developed nation. The vision of INDIA 2020 includes increasing the production of agriculture, developing infrastructure, providing accurate health and education facilities, developing information and technology and promoting e-governance. The proper implementation of this brilliant concept can avail good results. Its successful implementation can lay down the path for a reduction in the rural urban divide, increase transparency, promote equitable distribution of resources, increase literacy rate and curb corruption. 'A developed India by 2020, or even earlier, is not a dream. It need not be a mere vision in the minds of many Indians. It is a mission we all can take up and succeed.'

The Role of Destiny - Ayushi Srivastava JK Rowling said, “Destiny is a name often given in retrospect to choices that had dramatic consequences.” This statement throws light on the kind of personality that Rowling possesses. It shows that for Rowling, destiny is something that we shape and something that is in our hand. Rowling admitted in her Harvard Commencement speech that at one point of time, by any standards, she was the biggest failure she knew. She has acknowledged that she had to rely on state-benefits for her daughter and her survival. So, what levitated her into being United Kingdom’s best-selling author? Was it fate or was it her ability to know that fate did not have the power to define her and her future? While her rags to riches story may seem implausible and hard to achieve, she attributes her success to her failures. She believes that it is impossible to live without failing unless one lives so cautiously that they have not lived at all, in which case they fail by default. It is her skill to see her failure as stepping stones that has enabled her to rise from abject poverty to a an influential personality that has the power to change hundreds of life.

“We determine our destiny by the actions we take today.”

Destiny of a Girl - Shivani Bansal She was welcomed with a scorn, Her mother was looked down upon For giving birth to a girl In a society of ignorant churls. She could never be educated Her father was always dictated For the money was saved for her dowry To make her wedding flashy and flowery. But little did she know that Every rose came with a thorn Leaving her every day, weaker and more torn. Every day she woke up, With fresh scars adoring her face Enunciating her drunken man's last night menace. Misery, terror, torture, and agony It's pain that was scribbled in her destiny.

Patience, Perseverance and Hard work can overcome Destiny - Bhavana Rani Karma is a phenomenon and you have the power to change it in future because life is a combination of both, free will and destiny. Whenever any phenomenon takes place and you react to it, the cyclical reactions keep going on. Do not react but act. No one else but you can change your destiny. If you have the will, power and determination for what you want to achieve, no one can stop you from shaping your future as per your desire. Similar was the case with a poor child who had no one with him except his grandfather and grandmother. Few years later, they too took their last breath and he was left alone. Seeing his condition, everyone remarked of his pity condition and proclaimed of the nonaffordability of his meals. The child worked diligently for his aim so that no one could stop him from changing his destiny to his favour. He was not only capable of living a good life but also set an example of motivation for others. In a nutshell, if we do not persevere to do something, our destiny will be all powerful to take the lead. But if we are doughty and ready to work as hard as possible, a word like “destiny” would just exist in the dictionary. This word gained power because of those lazy people who did not succeed and gave an excuse as "destiny."

The Final Game - Anisha Isharwalia Hide and Seek, Dark Room, Kabaddi, Kho kho, ludo, snake and ladder, Is anything left to be played with me, 'Oh, dear Zindagi? ' I’m done now, playing But you are indulged in a game of cards right now With all the trump cards in your possession And me, sitting here like an economy in depression. Last night, you played Seven stones with me And managed to kill all my dreams Just in a single stroke, extinguished all beams And then in the match of cricket, I hit a six to the joy of all Only to be declared thereafter that it was but a no ball Then at last I decided, To give up on your card game And play a game of my choice Make my own rules And get a fair die The board was set and the die rolled And you saw that I finally won. Before playing games with you, Maybe I could have done this But then, playing with you was quite fun, Miss!

It’s Written -Urja Raheja The dried leaves on the lane crushed with the sheer weight of humanity reminded me of the inevitability of life. Destiny, a word which resounded more of luck and less of hard work had always been perceived as a vague concept. Despite futile searches through dictionary and web, I couldn’t realize its worth beyond the literal English definition. Yet, the struggle to delve deep into its intricacy remained. I asked, questioned myself to search, explore till the time I could materialize its existence in the world which I did, slowly and gradually. Destiny is nothing but a choice. It is what you chose to do, with will and without compulsion. It is the desire for self-contention, it is what should make one happy. It is the quest for personal perfection, it is a part of your being. ‘Maktub’, it’s written, written in the holy book of grace. It is the best you seek in yourself and the change you wish to empower in others. It is the thread that connects every circumstance, every journey, every purpose and molds it all to embrace destiny!

“Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is matter of choice.”

The Legend- Steve Jobs - Charu Somani Everyone, one day or another, sooner or later, asks questions like these: Who was I born to be? What was it I came here for? What is my purpose on this planet?

And let’s face it; none of us wants to miss it. If there is a grand reason for our being here, it would be a major screw-up if we blithely danced through life without seeking the answer to this burning question: What is my destiny? STEVE JOBS was a man of complete introspection and reflection. He always believed in connecting the dots. This article is not meant to give the readers the biodata of Steve Jobs, rather the purpose is to make them aware of his rough but aimed journey. Jobs’ youth was riddled with frustrations over formal schooling. People recount him as an amazing prankster and a computer whiz kid. Following high school graduation in 1972, Jobs enrolled at Reed College, which was an expensive college. Gradually, he realized that he didn’t owe much value addition so he decided to drop out. After that he enrolled himself in a calligraphy class which later became the foundation of the different font styles and typefaces he incorporated in Mac. Then after working in Atari, along with the help of Steve Wozniak and Ron Wayne, he established Apple Computer Inc. Things went nice till 1985 when he had to leave the company because of his “hard ways”. He was having a hard time, had no product on the horizon and was running short on money, but he knew that destiny had lots in store for him. After that he had experience in NeXT, Pixar and Disney. He went on relentlessly until he found himself back in Apple, the company to which he gave his heart and soul. Things went on. But life is not a bed of roses. In October 2003, Jobs was diagnosed with cancer. The news came as a shock to everyone! However, Jobs always maintained that whatever is destined to happen, will happen. Why to worry on that? He bravely combatted the disease for a decade. He breathed his last living inspiration on October 5, 2011. He always said, “You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

Ripples Her interrogation to destiny:Those longing which once I lived has lost its thirst, Those dreams which once I saw got submerged in its own vicinity, Those echoes which emancipated me from my own down-surge is no longer heard. Where have I lost myself when I set a tour to find me and alas! I am still not found. Destiny affirmed her child:Dear child, Who says you are lost, you were only derailed and now when you have realized this, who do you think can stop you from living those longings and catching those dreams. You will once again hear those enchanting echoes and set your up-surge. Remember, I am your destiny and if I would have been so easy to live who would be struggling to attain me?
