To the members of the NSW Women’s Bowling Association Inc. The NSWWBA Board have much pleasure in presenting to you the 83rd Annual Report and Financial Statement for the year ended 30th June 2012.

Current members for NSWWBA Inc at the close of the Financial Year 30th June 2012 are 24,000 members. We have 16 Regions, 48 Districts and 509 Clubs therein, with 13 Isolated Clubs. NSWWBA Inc has one Honorary Club – Lord Howe Island.

State President — Patricia Reynolds It is with pleasure that I present the Annual Report of the New South Wales Women’s Bowling Association Inc (NSWWBA) for 2011-2012.

As a result of the mandate for change given by acceptance of the new Constitution in September, 2011, the new Board of Directors came into being. The Directors are Noelene Harvey, Pam Hockings, Barbara Holden (Finance), Robyn Procter, Patricia Reynolds (President) and Beryl Watson. The first task was to implement the structure of the 16 Regions with their new boundaries, and put the 16 Regional Representatives in place. The By-Laws for the State were a priority. This took a couple of months and when ready the Constitutions and By-laws for the Districts and Clubs were sent out. These are still in the process of being adopted. Drastic changes in the Boardroom gave the Association a Board of 7 elected Directors with a possibility of 2 Appointed Directors. Each of the Directors was given the portfolios of the various Standing and Operational Committees.

A Board Development Program was put in place to reinforce the role of the new Board. In February we welcomed a new Director on the Board, Maryann Parcell.

For the first time women played in the National Seniors event late in 2011 and this was very successful.

During the Financial Global Crisis, our Finance Director, Barbara Holden managed the Association’s interests particularly well, and as a result the finances are in a very healthy condition. Finance and Special Projects Officer Janine Kerr has very capably handled the daily bookkeeping requirements, as well as travel and accommodation arrangements.

Many visits have been made by myself and the Directors to special days at clubs and even the very small clubs have been visited. The warm reception at every club was greatly appreciated.

As usual the 2012 State Carnival was a huge success, again returning to the Hastings Haven District at Port Macquarie. 280 teams took part including clubs from Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland. Port City Bowling Club was the Host club and 6 neighbouring clubs offered their greens — Kew, Lake Cathie, North Haven, Westport Port Macquarie, Port Panthers, and Wauchope. The opening night Dinner held at Westport Port Macquarie, was again a highlight for the commencement of the Carnival. A change in the format for the Carnival provided for Venue Managers, as opposed to 20 section Managers and this worked very well. Of course none of this would come about if it wasn’t for the co-operation of the District and I thank President Maureen Bradford and Secretary Carol Graham for their support.

The reason for the huge success of the Carnival is the dedication of a hard-working Match Committee chaired by Pam Hockings with Robyn Lewis and Jennifer Palmer as committee members.

Sponsors are an integral part of any sporting organisation and the New South Wales Women’s Bowling Association is fortunate to have the generous sponsors who support our sport and our Association (see page 10 for sponsors and partners).

new equipment was necessary. Another upgrade was the Website itself, giving it a new look.

Facebook and Twitter have been very popular, especially with regard to the immediate publication of results to the website. Another innovation has been the introduction of an e-Newsletter which does not intrude on the Bowls News and its content. This Bowls News magazine has been given a completely new look, making it a cleaner, modern document which will be published every two months instead of each month. Input to the magazine is now being done electronically and falls into line with the office being run very efficiently as administration is more and more handled electronically.

In order to address the decline in membership in our sport, Bowls Australia introduced Community Development Officers whose role is to assist clubs regarding governance, websites, etc. Five of these officers are in the NSW country areas and one in the Sydney Metropolitan area. These officers have already touched base with the majority of clubs and are building relationships to be able to better serve the bowling sporting community.

As delegate to Bowls Australia I have attended meetings in Melbourne and Queensland and have reported back to the Board. I have also attended the BA Inaugural Hall of Fame Awards Night in Adelaide and the BCiB Awards Night in Melbourne. Our nominees on both nights did very well. In Broadbeach Queensland CEO Heather Welch and I were involved in the initial stages of the BA Strategic Planning for the future and have since participated in workshops this end.

An on-line survey was undertaken with our NSW stakeholders earlier this year and the information received will be used towards the preparation of the Association’s Strategic Plan for 2013-2016. This is ongoing at present but in line with a requirement in our Constitution, and Strategic Forums have been set down for the next twelve months.

In order to address the decline in membership the Dress Policy was completely relaxed hoping that this will help attract women in the workforce as well as those with young families.

There are other strategies in mind for the new bowling year 2013.

Players selected in our State events, ie. Side Championships, Tests against other States etc. have acquitted themselves wonderfully well, winning in great style whenever they compete, and reinforcing the confidence and trust of the State Selectors. Congratulations to the Selectors Jan Layton, Lynn Smith and Willow Fong.

Throughout the year the Executive Committee, the Board, and the Standing and Operational Committees have all worked together for the good of the Association, and I must commend everyone involved for their commitment. To all of the staff Renee, Selam, Alex, and Janine, the Board acknowledges the dedication you have in your roles, and the support you extend to the CEO and the Board.

It is with great regret that we say farewell to our CEO Heather Welch as she embarks on another phase of her life with her family re-locating to Singapore. At the same time we welcome Nicky Bethwaite as the new CEO for our Association and hope that she will enjoy the challenges ahead.

CEO’s Report Vision NSWWBA Inc. providing a sustainable future for women and girls in the sport of lawn bowls through a dynamic and progressive approach Reflecting on the last 12 months there have been many programs and projects launched to further the development and sustainability of NSWWBA Inc in 2011-12 — it’s definitely been a year of change. This will be the last annual report I will submit as the CEO of Women’s Bowls in NSW. I will be moving to Singapore with my family, resigning from 5th July 2012 after 5 years, handing over to Nicky Bethwaite as the CEO. On 14th September 2011, the members of NSWWBA voted on a structural governance change, with the old Executive of 19 governing the sport to become a board of 7 Directors and 12 Groups and becoming 16 Regions with newly appointed Regional representatives (see new organisation structure figure 1) moving forward on constitutional changes, governance/structural change with all Clubs and Districts being compliant by 31st December 2012.

With the constitutional change the need for a restructure of the office was implemented (see figure 1 on next page). Selam, Janine, Renee and Alex are instrumental in the management of NSWWBA on a daily basis, providing professional services to the members of NSWWBA and clear communication channels through different ways from online or offline content to CRM system, social media, redesign of the Bowls news and many more innovative changes.

Each level of administration from National-State-Region-District and Club deal with a variety of stakeholders whether it is for the club development, local government funding or just to increase or maintain members at the club level for competitive/ social play.

Our sport, along with many other sports, is facing a number of challenges. These include the need for acceptance of constitutional and structural change to fulfill its governance responsibilities appropriately, declining memberships, unification and the need to carefully balance a sport that is rich in tradition with the changing nature of society.

By reviewing the current strategic plan, NSWWBA is able to formalise a pathway for growth and development required to ensure its relevance and longevity of the sport, more investment into the development of Bowls through forums, education workshops, coaching courses, NSWiS and junior development, also joint projects with Bowls Australia, RNSWBA and Bowls ACT for Community development officers, National Training centre coaches.

Directors are focused on their roles in the strategic vision and how NSWWBA Inc utilises the current limited resources available to value add each member, Club and volunteer administrator in the next 12 months. The question is how can we package up the current benefits of this sport to current and potential members?

As mentioned, one of the main projects being implemented by NSWWBA in partnership with BA/RNSWBA is Community Development Officers. Each CDO is based within a geographical region to provide a level of support and assistance to affiliated clubs over and above previous development officer programs. The CDOs have a variety of experience including bowls experience, club development experience and delivery of community programs.

The community development officers will be available to assist clubs in the following areas: • Increase participation and membership within the sport of bowls; • Providing support to clubs with business planning, member recruitment/retention, governance, funding, programs, information technology and volunteer strategies; Implementing whole-of-sport programs delivered at club level; • Increasing the quantity and quality of coaches and officials; and • Accurately recording local membership and participation data.

This new collaborative approach has been made possible through a combination of contributions from BA, the STAs and all funds raised through the National Merchandising Program (BA logo). This program would not have been possible without additional participation funding granted through the Australian Sports Commission following the release of the Federal Government’s new vision – ‘Pathways to Success’.

There are many sponsors NSWWBA Inc need to thank over the past 12 months (see page 10 for all the logos and sponsors) who have helped to support events, forums, State team, junior development, constitutional changes and general organisation administration.

NSWWBA Inc also has community supporters for all their members who can access resources for the personal health and development of all members. Bowls Australia have supported NSWWBA Inc in many initiatives. NSWWBA Inc was pleased to receive a grant from NSW Communities for further development of the organisation. On behalf of all affiliated bowlers I would like to thank our sponsors and look forward to working with them over the next 12 months.

The newly elected Board and newly appointed State Standing and Operational Committees have been busy with administration. The State volunteers put a lot of time and effort into running the many diverse areas of NSWWBA Inc along with Regional, District and Club Secretaries who have been wonderful in administering all the correspondence of the Association with affiliated players and member clubs. It is a great pleasure to work with such dedicated volunteer administrators at every level from State to Club. Please remember without our Volunteers we would not have an association – this sport is built upon the volunteers’ commitment to the sport on every level.

Thank you to our current employees in the office Janine Kerr, Renee Payne, Alexandra Ryan and Selamawit Woldemichael. Without all their hard work and dedication to NSWWBA Inc administration of the office would not be able to run so efficiently.

Match Committee P. Hockings (Chairman), R. Lewis, G. Gray, M. Reed With our new ‘third wheel’ in Jenny Palmer, the year for the Match Committee has been very organised and running smoothly. The dedication of the committee in giving their time, both in the office and after hours with phone calls and enquiries, which keep on coming, is most gratifying. The end of 2011 saw the State Championships held in Tuncurry and the event concluded successfully with a range of different players featuring in the semis and finals of most disciplines (winners of all events in this report on Honour Roll page). This year will see the culmination of the Senior Fours event, and the final 16 regional winners will compete at the same time as the Open Fours event and the State Championship awarded in both categories, on the 7th October.

2011 State Pennants Presentation

The inclusion of women in the Over 60’s Interstate Series was conducted successfully at Warilla and I thank Andrew Lynn, from RNSWBA, for all his assistance, commencing just one day after the State Championships concluded, it was a hectic two weeks. Western Australia won the Ladies event.

Our Indoor Singles at Warilla this year resulted in 15 qualifiers for the Australian Indoor from NSW. Our NSW Indoor Champion in 2012 is Kay Moran and she leads a very strong contingent who will represent NSW in August at Tweed Heads. Our best wishes to all these NSW Ladies and also the Men who have qualified.

After a lot of prior preparation, the 2012 State Carnival in the Hastings Haven area was another success, even if it was a bit damp around the edges, and once again the thanks of the Match Committee to all participants for their co-operation and patience in adverse weather conditions. The final four teams lead by Warilla is also listed on the Championship page. In 2013 from 27th–31st May, we will be descending on the Shoalhaven area, south of Sydney with the State Carnival and it is hoped that the players will assist in making the event another occasion for friendship, good bowls and hopefully fine weather.

printing and we wish them well should they choose to proceed to the National Champion of Champions event later in the year in the ACT. Jan Agar from St Johns Park, who won the National Champion of Champions Singles at the end of 2011 will be representing Australia at the World Champion of Champions event in Cyprus and our best wishes go with her. Good luck Jan. The Match Committee could not organise any events without the support of Sponsors and Club officials, who offer their venues and volunteers for catering, umpiring and marking, and the Greenkeepers, who are always so obliging. My thanks again to my Match Committee, the office girls and the many other players and officials who have assisted over the last 12 months.

2011 State Championships

Umpires Board Audrey Gray and Coral Sloane The past twelve months has been a successful year for the Umpires Board. We now have 3 International Technical Officers in NSW, with Pam Hockings accrediting this year.

During the past year the District Umpires Sub-committees have accredited 64 Level 1 Umpires and 12 Measurers as well as many reaccreditations. Sadly 45 resignations have been received. Our total number of umpires now stands at 920.

Over the past year we have umpired many games at State Level, including State Pennant Finals, Indoor Singles, Champion of Champions Singles and Pairs and the State Carnival.

Our thanks go to all of the District Umpires Sub-committees, the time and effort you put into tutoring the new umpires and re-accreditations is really appreciated. Thanks also to the Clubs and Greenkeepers who have made their facilities available to the Subcommittees to carry out their duties.

Coaching Panel K. Chatillon The NSWWBA Coaching Panel have been very busy in 2011/12, conducting 11 coaching Clinics between August 2011 and February 2012 including two country clinics at Narromine & Canowindra with 351 members attending and dedicated coaches assisting.

To accommodate working women NSWWBA Coaching Panel hold Clinics on the weekends. NSWWBA will hold two clinics a year in the country areas at no cost to the club for accommodation or travel.

Bowls Australia Coaching Structure, Presenters and Assessors (P&A) are responsible in the education of all New Club Coaches & Reaccreditations in NSW and in Australia.

NSWWBA Coaching Panel has been working on the implementation of reaccreditations over the past year, with the help of Renee Payne (NSWWBA Sport Development Officer) and Lyndsay Makin (Fellow Coach) we have structured the Basic, Club & Pennant Coaching Clinics in line with the guidelines of Bowls Australia. The Clinics were submitted to Bowls Australia and have been approved for gaining 20 Personal Development Points for your Coaching reaccreditation if you attend and assist one of the three clinics. Points are only available when a qualified P&A presents the clinic and will sign off their attendance.

NSW Combined Coaching Committee is in the process of accrediting new P&A’s in NSW, which will be great assistance to the Combined Coaching Committee.

Thank you to all the coaches who have assisted me throughout the year, your dedication to travel and work with our members is remarkable, we have a lot of fun and we never stop learning.

As a Coaching Panel we are lucky to have the inclusion of the Regional Representatives and Community Development Officers that can assist targeting the areas we need to visit and educate the members and players on how important coaches are.

Communication is very important to NSWWBA Coaching Panel, we love to hear your feedback so we can help and advise you with your queries. If you have any enquiries or issues as a coach you can call NSWWBA direct on 9267 7155 or email admin@womensbowlsnsw.org, you do not have go through your club or district.

NSW lost a couple of very close games and ended up in 5th place, well done to all these players.

We have attended as many regional play-offs as possible and many thanks to the Regional Reps for their great work in forwarding their dates and venues to us.

Our thanks also go to CEO Heather and her band of helpful ladies, Alex, Janine, Renee and Selam. They are always available to assist in any way.

The sides for the National Over 60's series to be played in October in ACT are currently being selected.

Willow, Lynn and I have decided not to seek re-appointment and we wish the new Selection Committee all the very best for the coming year.

Constitution Revision Board Robyn Procter It is difficult to comprehend that almost twelve months ago the Association’s new State Constitution was given an overwhelming vote of approval by our members. Earlier this year the new State By-Laws were introduced and following a concentrated effort by the Directors and final legal advice, Constitutions and By-Laws were presented and delivered to all Districts and Clubs. To-date the response has been overwhelmingly positive from members.

The new By-Laws have created immense interest with approximately two hundred email enquiries and countless telephone calls all containing a vast variety of questions.

Almost one hundred new By-Laws have been submitted for approval. I must thank Finance Director Barbara Holden for her valuable assistance in helping me with the task of answering the many questions received and providing approval of the By-Laws in a timely and expert manner.

A very important reminder — all District and Club By-Laws must be finalised, submitted and approved by the Association no later than 31st December 2012.

While a considerable amount of time was dedicated to the “new” Constitutions and By-Laws, the Constitution Revision Board continued to receive numerous emails and telephone calls from members seeking advice concerning upcoming Annual General Meetings, voting procedures and other related issues under their “old” Constitutions.

Member Protection issues persist and on most occasions solutions are found. In many instances a telephone conversation can prevent a prolonged unpleasant situation. In a few cases there have been delays in replying to queries, my apologies if any inconvenience has been caused.

The Constitution Revision Board indeed acknowledges our office staff, Heather, Selam, Renee, Alex and Janine. Thank you for your dedication and support over the past year and warmly welcomes and looks forward to working with the Association’s new CEO Nicky Bethwaite.

Journal Committee Barbara Hazeltine (Editor), Wendy Steyer, Elizabeth Whelan Another year, another report! What an amazing change you must have seen in the Bowls News in 2012. Not only is it easier for you to find your way around the journal but also there are many and varied articles for you to read. I have to admit, I am a beginning to the end reader and cannot bring myself to vary that routine, but others like to read favourites first and now it is easier than before to do this, by way of the contents page.

This year Bowls News has updated to electronic processes and the committee ladies are working well with this thanks to the staff and their expertise. It would be remiss if Selam, Renee and Janine who look after member’s details and finances were not recognised for their help and input. Ladies we thank you.

Thank you to the printers of Bowls News, the paper which is new and improved was your suggestion, and who along with CEO Heather and Communications Officer Alex and my journal colleagues Wendy and Liz, have put so many hours into bringing Bowls News into line with the other states’ journals.

The readers (“bowlers all”) through their Publicity Officers have provided lots of material from the clubs to place in the journal. Thank you very much.

Welcome to the regional representatives who are appearing each month in a segment introducing them to you through the Meet a Bowler. It is a way for us all to meet these ladies who are doing a good job taking the new constitution to the bowlers.

It is hoped you have enjoyed the articles from CEO Heather and Communications Officer Alex as they have not taken part before, and are now giving insight into the work which is undertaken behind the scenes. In May/June 2012 you may have seen the article written by Alex and introducing the representatives.

The State Carnival brought many of the bowlers together in the same spot and it was rewarding to hear your thoughts relating to the journal. Consideration had been given to perhaps removing the In Remembrance column but many of you read this page and so it remains.

President Patricia, Match, Umpires, Coaches, Constitution are always on time with their reports which I am told by many of you, are really helpful. The committees provide the journal with the information that some readers cut out and keep for future reference.

My advice is to put the date, especially the year, so that when something changes, like a law, then you know that the one you have kept may no longer be of use.

Please continue using your Publicity Officer to send items, either electronically or by post, about your clubs and life as a bowler coming through to the Journal committee.

Social Committee Patricia Cousley (Chair), Delsie Fardell Many thanks to all clubs and members for supporting the State Carnival raffle which was once again very successful. Congratulations to all winners.

Delsie and I have enjoyed another year of purchasing and preparing gifts for Club Anniversaries, Birthdays and President’s Days.

Historian Committee Early in the 1960s, the Historians Committee was formed and in the 50-odd years since its inception, a very large amount of data pertaining to all aspects of not only the NSWWBA’s history, but that of clubs as well, has been compiled and recorded. The results of fixtures go back as far as the 1930s.

Again I am issuing a plea to Clubs to forward a simple outline of their history for our records and as a back-up in case of a disaster at the Club.

This has been another busy year with new Constitutions and By-Laws for Clubs and Districts and Policies being written together with changes to the Dress regulations. The list of Club closures, name changes and re-affiliations has been up-dated together with the register of persons who are members of the Board and Committees of the NSWWBA. Hopefully expressions of interest for the position of Historian will be received for the A.G.M. The working hours are flexible and it is a position which keeps you abreast of everything that is happening in the Association.

My thanks must go to the members of the Match Committee for copies of the draws and results of all State Fixtures and to CEO Heather and to the administration staff of Selam, Renee, Alex and Janine for their assistance and constant cheerfulness. Regional Representative Committee The Regional Representative position came into being for first time during this period and it’s been a great learning curve for all, with 16 Regions replacing the previous 12 Groups.

The Reps were appointed last year and I’m sure I speak for all of them when I say they have found it a great honour to be representing their Regions. Co-ordinating and completing many and varied aspects of administration is a key part of the role of the Reps and the Regional paperwork has been handled effectively and efficiently so congratulations to all concerned. The Reps are also performing at a high level in assisting information flowing to and from their Regions and working as a link between Clubs, Districts and State.

While some fine tuning around the role is continuing, it has been performed admirably by the current Reps. We look forward to a continued significant contribution from our Regional Representatives in the year ahead.

State Team Manager Daphne Shaw This year I've had the privilege of being Manager of both the State Side and Under 25's.

It's almost 30 years since I first represented NSW; there have been lots of changes both on the green and in administration in that time. However the enthusiasm of our elite bowlers has only increased in that period, due partly to professional selection and coaching.

NSW is fortunate to have in our squad a sprinkling of past, current and hopefully future members of the Australian rep team. This has made my position an enviable one to our competitors.

In April, the Annual Australian Sides Championships were held at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast where we took our team of 12. The girls played exceptionally well over the 4 days to record a Gold Medal win over the other States and Territories and came home with the Marj Morris Trophy, whilst there we took the opportunity to play a Test Match against Western Australia, which we also won.

In June, NSW hosted a three Test Series against Queensland for the State team and also the Under 25's. The State team had a whitewash win, the Under 25's played very well but were eventually beaten by a competitive Queensland combination.

I firmly believe that the contribution and help we had from Bryce Stewart as Coach was the key to our success on the green. His advice and the discipline he instilled into the girls before each game was answered with positive play and great results.

I strongly recommend that we do our utmost to retain his services for future events.

Hopefully NSW can continue this successful run, and I look forward to being with them in the coming year.

NSW celebrates victory at the Australian Sides Championships.

Junior Bowls Committee Sharyn Renshaw The 2011-12 year has seen a few changes in the Junior Committee. On State selection is John Rodis, Neil Bayo and Sharyn Renshaw. Jan Layton assists with Juniors as the NSWWBA representative and Chris Green as the RNSWBA Development Officer.

Jack Hawkins who has until earlier this year held the position of State Junior Coach/Selector, resigned from the committee following the Easter Training Camp, after many years of valuable contribution to officials and players. Jack’s knowledge and passion for the Junior players will be missed by all.

2012 Under 18 Training Camp

The 2011 Under 18 Girls Singles and Pairs were held at Warilla Bowling Club from the 8th to 11th July, 2011. Stephanie Hili from Warilla defeated Tayla Conway in the Singles and Samantha and Natalia Noronha won in the Pair’s discipline.

The 2011 Zone ‘7 a side’ was won by Zone 12. The NSW Under 18 State Championships results for 2011 are as follows. In the Singles, Michael O’Loughlin (Zone 10) defeated Dylan Skinner (Zone 16) in the final. The Pairs Championship went to Stephanie Hili and Sean Mawdsley with the runners-up being Matthew Flanagan and Dylan Skinner. The Fours Championship went to Ben Treuer, Sean Mawdsley, Aaron Teys and Kyle Johannes, defeating Chris Mathers, Ben Glasson, Daniel Farrell and Beau Prideaux in the final.

The Australian Under 18 Championships held at Darebin Victoria from the 3rd to 6th October, saw NSW take the Boys Trophy and overall State Honours. The boys won Gold in all four disciplines, with the Girls winning Gold in the Fours, Silver in the Triples & Bronze in the Singles. The boys team was Sean Mawdsley, Beau Prideaux, Tom Hull, Haydn Bojkowski and Aaron Teys. The girls team was Ellen Ryan, Rheni Austin, Dawn Hayman, Tayla Conway and Stephanie Hili.

In the 2011 City versus Country, held at Cabramatta Bowling Club on November 26 & 27, the Country team managed to come away with the overall win defeating City, 2 tests to 1. At this event Stephanie Hili was awarded the Under 18 Girls Player of the Year, and Sean Mawdsley named Under 18 Boys Player of the Year.

Australia was held in Sorrento, Perth from the 9th to 11th January 2012. NSW won the series with only one player changed from the National Championships. Corey Wedlock was included in the side to replace Aaron Teys who turned 18 prior to the event.

Three Major Junior Singles tournaments were taken out by NSW Juniors this year.

Ben Glasson won the 2012 Junior South Pacific Singles, defeating Natalie Norohna in the final. Ellen Ryan won the 2012 Under 18 Australian Open Singles and took out the Under 16s Junior South Pacific Singles.

The ACT Test was postponed to later in the year so a selection trial event for the Junior team against NSWIS was played at that time to decide the 10 member team (5 girls, 5 boys) to represent NSW in the July Junior Test against QLD. Seven players from each of the Girls and Boys squads of 12 were selected for this event.

In the NSW versus QLD test held in Mackay from the 2nd to 4th July we had a ‘new look’ NSW side with a number of new players involved in the series. The Girls side that included Ellen Ryan, Tayla Conway, Dawn Hayman, Jamie Lee Worsnop and Natalie Noronha won the series 3-0. The boys team of Dylan Skinner, Billy Johnson, Corey Wedlock, Luke Jones and Ben Glasson lost the series 0-3 to a well established QLD side. All the players were exceptional in their performances and behaviour.

Ellen Ryan at the Under 18 NSW vs Qld. The Under 18 Girls Singles and Pairs saw Jena Mileto (St Johns Park) take out the Singles defeating Molly Wilton in the final. The 2012 Pairs winners were Dawn Hayman and Jamie Lee Worsnop defeating Jess Cousley and Tracey Lee Swift in the final. Windang was the host club and provided a wonderful venue for the event.

Warilla Bowling Club was host to the 2012 NSW Under 18 State Championships from the 9th to 14th July. The event concluded with Ben Glasson (Zone 12) defeating Jono Davis (Zone 4) to win the Singles title. In the Fours Championship, the Zone 2 team of Corey Reid, Jack Ryan, Jamie Dow and Brandon Stacey defeated the Zone 16 team of Dylan Skinner, Natalie Noronha, Samantha Noronha and Dawn Hayman to take the title.

The Pairs Championship went to Amanda Laird and Billy Johnson (Zone 9) defeating Brendan Romeo and Jaison Redman (Zone 6) in the final.

Bowl for Others 2011-2012 Bowl for Others Committee – Gladys Barnes (President), Merle McCarthy (Honorary Secretary), Edna Arnold (Treasurer) We thank all the NSW women bowlers who support us with their voluntary one dollar or more subscription each year.

Many thanks also to the Clubs and Districts who help our funds by holding Rose Bowls, Charity Days, Spiders and wrong bias jars.

Our Fifteenth Anniversary of “Bowl for Others” was celebrated with the Philanthropic Cheques Presentation Luncheon at the Masonic Club Sydney in September. We were honoured to have three Patrons present, State President Jewel Buchanan, immediate Past President Tricia Part – “Bowl for Others” Patrons, and Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC Governor of New South Wales and Patron of NSWWBA Inc. We had our followers present and some new ladies as well as the group of recipients who receive a cheque. These representatives gave a short talk on the research being carried out at their research centres and how it will help us. The NSW Air Ambulance Service air lifts our country members who need it urgently, to hospitals in Sydney.

The county Vice Presidents of Bowl for Others and the District and Club Secretaries are thanked for their work in collecting the monies and forwarding it onto us.

On behalf of the President Gladys Barnes, Executive and Committee of “Bowl for Others” we extend our thanks to State President Patricia Reynolds, Board and Committees of the NSWWBA Inc. for the room for our meetings, our thanks also go to CEO Heather Welch and all office personnel for their courteous assistance and co-operation at all times.

Finance Directors Report Barbara Holden The Financial Year closed showing a profit of $253,856.00. This figure is considerably inflated by the transfer of the Group Funds into accounts for the Regional Representatives, now held in the name of the NSWWBA, but able to be accessed by the Regional Representatives for their day to day expenses.

The figure of $85,387.00 is the gross amount transferred and is shown simply in the accounts as income received. As a result the Profit shown is inflated by this $85,387.00 and in actual fact the profit is $168,469.00.

This result has only been achieved by ensuring that every aspect of the financial running of the Association is closely monitored. Again by the careful investment of the monies retrieved from the ING frozen account the interest received over the past 12 months increased $16,000.00.

The increase in interest together with the Grant of $30,000.00 received from NSW Communities helped to maintain our bottom line.

Sponsorship of approximately $100,000.00 does not show as an item in the Profit and Loss Account. Under the system of accountability in place sponsorship goes directly to the credit of the event/item for which it was given.

Sponsorship is vital to maintain costs within the Association as, without it, our bottom line would not be in such a healthy state.

The financial environment we are in has improved but still remains fairly unpredictable.

With care and good management we should be able to institute programs to assist our grass roots bowlers to attract new members into their clubs and so insure a brighter future for bowls.

My special thanks go to Janine Kerr, our Finance Officer, who is a great asset to the office administration. We lost Heather late in the year and welcomed our new CEO Nicky.

Selam, Renee and Alex, thank you for the help you give so willingly, I have enjoyed working with you all.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2012 The financial statements cover the New South Wales Women’s Bowling Association Inc. as an individual entity. New South Wales Women’s Bowling Association Inc. is an Association incorporated in New South Wales under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009.

NOTE 1 — STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES Basis of Preparation The financial statements are general purpose financial statements that have been prepared in accordance with Accounting Standards (including Australian Accounting Interpretations) and the Associations Incorporation Act 2009. The Association is a not-forprofit entity for financial reporting purposes under Australian Accounting Standards.

Australian Accounting Standards set out accounting policies that the AASB has concluded would result in financial statements containing relevant and reliable information about transactions, events and conditions to which they apply. Material accounting policies adopted in the preparation of these financial statements are presented below and have been consistently applied unless otherwise stated.

The financial statements have been prepared on an accruals basis and are based on historical costs, modified, where applicable, by the measurement at fair value of selected non-current assets, financial assets and financial liabilities.

The financial statements were authorised for issue on 22nd August 2012 by members of the committee.

Accounting Policies a.

Income Tax The income of the Association is exempt from income tax in terms of Section 50-45 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.

b.

Inventories Inventories consist of publications, badges and assorted mementos and are measured at the lower of cost and net realisable value. Costs are assigned on an average cost basis and include direct costs and appropriate overheads, if any.

c.

Property, Plant and Equipment Each class of property, plant and equipment is carried at cost or fair value less, where applicable, any accumulated depreciation and impairment losses.

In the periods when the strata title land and buildings are not subject to an independent valuation, the directors conduct directors’ valuations to ensure the land and buildings’ carrying amount is not materially different to the fair value.

Increases in the carrying amount arising on revaluation of land and buildings are credited to a revaluation reserve in equity. Decreases that offset previous increases of the same asset are charged against fair value reserves directly in equity; all other decreases are recognised in profit or loss.

Any accumulated depreciation at the date of revaluation is eliminated against the gross carrying amount of the asset and the net amount is restated to the revalued amount of the asset.

Plant and equipment Plant and equipment are measured on the cost basis and are therefore carried at cost less depreciation and impairment losses. In the event the carrying amount of plant and equipment is greater than the estimated recoverable amount, the carrying amount is written down immediately to the estimated recoverable amount. A formal assessment of recoverable amount is made when impairment indicators are present.

No impairment loss has been recorded in the current financial year.

Depreciation The depreciable amount of all fixed assets, including building, is depreciated on a straight line basis over the asset’s useful life commencing from the time the asset is held ready for use.

The assets’ residual values and useful lives are reviewed and adjusted, if appropriate, at each reporting period.

Financial Instruments Initial Recognition and Measurement Financial assets and financial liabilities are recognised when the Association becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument. For financial assets, this is equivalent to the date that the Association commits itself to either purchase or sell the asset (ie. trade date accounting is adopted).

Financial instruments are initially measured at fair value plus transactions costs where the instrument is not classified as ‘at fair value through profit or loss’, in which case transaction costs are expensed to profit or loss immediately.

Classification and Subsequent Measurement Financial instruments are subsequently measured at either fair value or cost. (i)

Financial assets at fair value through profit or loss Financial assets are classified at ‘fair value through profit or loss’ when they are held for trading for the purpose of short term profit taking. Such assets are subsequently measured at fair value with changes in fair value (ie. gains or losses) being recognised in profit or loss. The Association has not held any financial asset at fair value through profit or loss in the current or comparative year.

(ii) Loans and receivables Loans and receivables are non-derivative financial assets with fixed or determinable payments that are not quoted in an active market and are subsequently measured at amortised cost. (iii) Held-to-maturity investments Held-to-maturity investments are non-derivative financial assets that have fixed maturities and fixed or determinable payments, and it is the Association’s intention to hold these investments to maturity. They are subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest rate method.

They comprise investments in the equity of other entities where there is neither a fixed maturity nor fixed or determinable payments. (v) Financial Liabilities Non-derivative financial liabilities (excluding financial guarantees) are subsequently measured at amortised cost.

Impairment At the end of each reporting period, the Association assesses whether there is objective evidence that a financial instrument has been impaired. In the case of available–for-sale financial instruments, a prolonged decline in the value of the instrument is considered to determine whether impairment has arisen. Impairment losses are immediately recognised in profit or loss. Also, any cumulative decline in fair value previously recognised in other comprehensive income is reclassified to profit or loss at this point.

Derecognition Financial assets are derecognised where the contractual rights to receipt of cash flows expires or the asset is transferred to another party, whereby the Association no longer has any significant continuing involvement in the risks and benefits associated with the asset. Financial liabilities are derecognised where the related obligations are either discharged, cancelled or expire. The difference between the carrying value of the financial liability extinguished or transferred to another party and the fair value of consideration paid, including the transfer of non-cash assets or liabilities assumed, is recognised in profit or loss.

Employee Benefits Provision is made for the Association’s liability for employee benefits arising from services rendered by employees to the end of the reporting period. Employee benefits expected to be settled within one year have been measured at the amounts expected to be paid when the liability is settled. Employee benefits payable later than one year have been measured at the present value of the estimated future cash outflows to be made for those benefits. These cash flows are discounted using market yields on national government bonds with terms to maturity that match the expected timing of cash flows.

Cash and Cash Equivalents Cash and cash equivalents include cash on hand, deposits held at-call with banks and other short-term highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less.

Revenue and Other Income Revenue from the sale of goods is recognised at the point of delivery as this corresponds to the transfer of significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods and the cessation of all involvement in those goods.

Interest revenue is recognised using the effective interest rate method, which, for floating rate financial assets is the rate inherent in the instrument. Dividend revenue is recognised when the right to receive a dividend has been established.

Revenue from the provision of membership subscriptions is recognised on a receipts basis for the financial year to which it relates.

All revenue is stated net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST).

Goods and Services Tax (GST) Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of GST, except where the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the Australian Tax Office (ATO).

Receivables and payables are stated inclusive of the amount of GST receivable or payable. The net amount of GST receivable from, or payable to, the ATO is included with other receivables or payables in the Statement of Financial Position.

The balance is recognised as a current liability with the amounts normally paid within 30 days of recognition of the liability.

Key Estimates Impairment The Association assesses impairment at the end of each reporting period by evaluation of conditions and events specific to the Association that may be indicative of impairment triggers. Recoverable amounts of relevant assets are reassessed using value-in-use calculations which incorporate various key assumptions.

Restructure of Group Representation During the year the Association revised its constitution and changed the manner in which groups accounted to the Association. As a result of these changes the group bank accounts were transferred to the control of the Association which resulted in income to the Association of $85,387 which is shown in Note 2 to the financial statements. New bank accounts were subsequently established for each region and at 30 June 2012 these accounts amounted to $60,000 (Note 6).

Financial Risk Management Policies The Association’s finance director is responsible for, amongst other issues, monitoring and managing financial risk exposures of the Association. The finance director’s overall risk management strategy seeks to ensure the Association meets its financial targets, whilst minimising potential adverse effects of cash flow shortfalls. (a) Credit Risk: The maximum exposure to credit risk, excluding the value of any collateral or other security, at balance date to recognised financial assets is the carrying amount, net of any provisions for doubtful debts, as disclosed in the Statement of Financial Position and Notes to the Financial Statements.

The Association does not have any material credit risk exposure to any single debtor or group of debtors under financial instruments entered into by the Association. (b) Net Fair Values: Methods and assumptions used in determining net fair value.

The net fair values of assets and liabilities approximates their carrying value. No financial assets and financial liabilities are readily traded on organised markets in standardised form.

Financial assets where carrying amount exceeds net fair values have been written down to the net fair value.
