A Message From the Assistant Dean of Students for Greek Life Welcome to UNT! I am sure you will soon discover that this is an outstanding place and that you have made a wonderful decision in attending this university. I am pleased to be able to highlight a second outstanding opportunity that I hope you will consider, Greek Life. Joining the Fraternity and Sorority community here at the University of North Texas is one of the best ways to get connected to campus and to give UNT that home away from home feel. We call each other brother and sister for a reason. Greeks at UNT are active in leadership around campus, they are extremely involved in community service, and they consistently boast a higher grade point average than those students who are not members of Greek organizations. It is my great honor to work with the Fraternities and Sororities of UNT, it is my sincere hope that you will look into this opportunity and discover all the benefits of membership.

Founded on May 15, 1851, Alpha Delta Pi is the oldest secret society for college women in the world. We were established at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia, the first college chartered to grant degrees to women in the world. Our founder was just sixteen years old when she left her home in Georgia to study at Wesleyan Female College. Before the end of her first year, she established the FIRST secret society for collegiate women with the help of her five most dear and admired friends. They based their secret society on academic, social and moral improvement. After over 160 years of sisterhood, those principles still guide what we strive for today. Alpha Delta Pi (or ADPi for short) was chartered at the University of North Texas in 1953. Since then, we have expanded into the chapter of diverse, scholarly and down-to-earth women that we are known for being today. Our symbols are the diamond and lion (who we call Alphie). Our flower is the woodland violet, and our colors are azure blue and white. Our values as ADPi women are laid out in our creed. Our open motto, “We Live for Each Other” exemplifies what being involved in Greek life is all about. Our creed states that “first, strengthening my own character and personality; second, watching my attitudes toward my fellow-beings; third, recognizing the value of high educational standards; and fourth, developing faith and loyalty” will guide us to achieve rich and useful lives. We have our own system of naming our different stages of membership. We do not call our new members “pledges”. To us, “pledge” is synonymous with hazing, which is extremely opposite of our values and something we do not condone. Our new members are called Alphas, meaning “first” or “newest”. Our “active” or “initiated” members are called Deltas. They have entered the “change” within their membership in ADPi by experiencing our ritual and understanding the true meaning behind it. We call our alumni Pi members, meaning “forever”. It’s not just four years, but for life. This is something incredibly unique to us; our Greek name and letters reflects our membership stages, and brings us full circle within our amazing sisterhood. How cool is that?! We will always be the First, Finest, Forever. Our philanthropy is the Ronald McDonald House Charities. RMHC is an organization that provides a home away from home for families that have young children who need extensive treatment for illness or injury, but live far away from the hospital where they are being treated. The Ronald McDonald House provides a temporary home so that parents can be near their children during a hard time to help them stay strong. Along with volunteering our time to make dinners and having game nights with the families, we hold a fundraising event in the spring known as Mocktails Blend-off. Teams come together to make a “mocktail” drink in hopes of winning the Golden Blender, which includes a donation to a philanthropy or scholarship fund of their choice. In addition to raising money for Ronald McDonald House Charities, we use our mocktails to promote alcohol awareness. We bring out a guest speaker to talk about the dangers and issues associated with alcohol abuse on campus. Not only are we raising awareness of our philanthropy, but we are helping to keep our campus safe. In the fall, we host our Trunk or Treat trunk show, featuring vendors such as Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, Kendra Scott, trendy local boutiques, and much more. Each Trunk Show, we raise thousands of dollars to donate to Ronald McDonald House Charities from vendors’ proceeds. This is a fun way for the community to give back to our philanthropy, and shop at the same time! Recently, Alpha Delta Pi’s Grand Council and Sigma Phi Epsilon’s National Board of Directors have formed a partnership to continue a conversation about a topic we believe is vital to ensuring the health and safety of our membership—sexual assault prevention. We are the first Greek organizations to take a stance on sexual assault on campus and educate our members on what to do and how to prevent it. We’re so proud to be partnered with the gentlemen of Sig Ep to help spread this message. What would Greek life be without social events? In ADPi, we are fortunate to not only have one, but two big social events in the fall semester. We have a Date Party where sisters dress up to the theme and bring their dates. Last fall, we went to Billy Bob’s, where we learned to twostep, had an all-you-can-eat barbecue feast and got to see a Chris Young concert. Our second “date party” is called Lion Hunt. Places we have been recently for Lion Hunt have been a haunted carnival, a Texas Rangers baseball game and a Dallas Mavericks basketball game. Sisters have the option of dressing in camouflage or dressing to the theme, but there’s always a prize for the best-dressed camo costume. In the spring, we have our formal. This is an event to celebrate our accomplishments that we’ve made throughout the year as well as dress up and have fun with our sisters and our dates. We also keep social with different sororities and fraternities on campus by having mixers and tailgates with each other. Each semester, we do a mixer with our sister sorority and fraternities. This past year, we had a mixer with the UNT Men’s Lacrosse team and made such great friendships with them. Over the summer, we did a mock-recruitment with Alpha Omicron Pi from TWU, which lead to a mixer later on. Who knew that we would become so close to a sorority from a whole different school! We get to meet so many new people and make tons of new friendships and connections. Alpha Delta Pi encourages you to Go Green, Go Greek and Go ADPi! For more information, check out our website at www.adpiunt.org.

ALPHA EPSILON PI Alpha Epsilon Pi has been around as a whole since 1913 with just 11 founding fathers. Now we are a fraternity that has spread across the country with thousands of other brothers! Alpha Epsilon Pi came to UNT in 2008 and we were chartered in 2014. Our beliefs are strong and they are where our integrity is found. Mutual helpfulness, humility, faith, and perseverance are what every brother have taken an oath towards. Without these 4 things, we would not have become as strong as have today. We’re one of the smallest organizations here, however we are growing every semester just by participating and putting a good name out there for everyone. A great part about Alpha Epsilon Pi is that there something for every brother, no matter what your interest or hobbies are, there is someone who shares that common interest with you and you will never feel alone or left out. Our hard work really shows when

we focus on our philanthropy; Hero’s To Hero’s, which is an organization that helps veterans with PTSD. Every brother steps up to the plate when his name is called to help collect donations and make and over achieve our pledged amount. Our actual philanthropy event itself is our annual Rap Battle, where contestants participate in competitions and there is always a prize for the winner, but all the proceeds from the event also go towards Hero’s To Hero’s and we keep none of it. This year, we plan to do it up twice as hard. With all the new members coming in, we’ll have the resources to do it bigger and better. Another thing that is important to us as a brotherhood is reaching out and maintaining a great relationship with other chapters. We could not be a more complete brotherhood if we did not attempt to maintain relations with fellow chapters.

ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA

My name is Keyana Underwood. I am a 20 year old Junior at the University of North Texas. After attending college for only a year and a half, I was granted the opportunity to be a part of the greatest organization in the world, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Alpha Kappa Alpha has stood proudly as the first historically black sorority since January 15th, 1908. Founded on the campus of Howard University by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, with a vision to create unity and friendship among college women of color, helping them maintain a progressive interest in college life. The values of an Alpha woman consist of having high and ethical standards, serving mankind, all while keeping scholarship a priority and being a role model at all times. On October 3rd, 1969 the Electrifying Epsilon Mu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha was chartered on the campus of UNT, introducing eight women who painted this campus pink and green with their excellence. Forty six years later, Epsilon Mu introduced 41 girls that have proven themselves worthy of carrying the tradition. Educational Enrichment is one of the five targets our sorority recognizes nationally. With the highest grade point average in the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the tenth highest in all of Greek life at UNT, my chapter has set a standard for themselves and those around them. Epsilon Mu visits schools all over the Denton and Dallas area to talk to students about the importance of education. We also collect school supplies at every event that we host and donate them to students within our community who are in need. Kampus Kupcakes is an annual event that we hold that covers the Health Promotions Target. It is an event where we get acquainted with the student body and hand out healthy snacks such as gluten free cupcakes, water, and apples. Slay for a Day is also an annual event that we created to help less fortunate teenage girls find the perfect prom dress. We started this project at Denton Highschool, and plan to expand to many more schools in the future. Since going Greek, my life has changed tremendously. I have met so many wonderful people and took advantage of some great opportunities. I have challenged myself and put my leadership skills to use. I have created a sisterhood that will last a life time, and made memories that I will remember forever. I would encourage those who are looking to get involved on campus and want a lifelong bond with some amazing to consider going Greek!

DENTON:

WE’RE NOW OPEN.

COME HANGOUT! ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA In our 62 years at North Texas, Alpha Phi has developed women who are well educated, driven leaders, and most of all passionate about helping others. We uphold the standards of our founders by maintaining a higher Chapter GPA than the overall women’s GPA. In addition to our continued focus on scholarship, Alpha Phi’s continually dedicate time toward community service for the betterment of others, also helping to support the Alpha Phi Foundation, which works to ‘advance women’s lives through the power of philanthropy.’ At North Texas, we achieve this through raising campus awareness of women’s hearth health, which kills 1 in 5 women every year. Additionally, we train our members in Hands – Only CPR and teach them how to use AEDs. To support the Foundation, we hold multiple fundraising events on campus, including our popular Taco & Pancake Phi’sts, Go Red Week, and our fabulous Red Dress Gala. In the past 2 years alone, North Texas Alpha Phi has donated $50,000 to the Alpha Phi Foundation! Sunday-Wednesday 11:30AM-10PM Thursday-Saturday 11:30AM-2AM 827 W. Eagle Drive, Denton, TX 76201 We host parties & events. DJ included!

Alpha Phi cannot wait for the upcoming semester! We recently received a grant from the Alpha Phi Foundation, only awarded to 10 chapters, to provide leadership training to our members, which will take place this fall. We are also counting down the days when we get to head back out to Apogee to cheer on the Mean Green and participate in Homecoming festivities. But first, we will get to welcome all of our newest sisters after fall recruitment! Welcome back to campus, and Go Mean Green!

ALPHA TAU OMEGA

Alpha Tau Omega was founded on September 11, 1865 with a goal to unite the North and the South. We have been at the University of North Texas for ten years now, since than our chapter has built strong leaders not only within the fraternity but in other organizations such as the Professional Leadership Program, residential assistants, Interfraternity Council, and Orientation and Transition Programs. Throughout the year we have two signature events, Cupcake Throw down and Taus and Paus. For Taus and Paus we turn our backyard into a dog park we offer dog goodie bags and food as well for all the guests. Cupcake Throw Down is our biggest philanthropy event which we even got featured on by our national website. It is a weeklong event and the beginning of the week starts off with teams bidding for coaches and themes. For example two years ago the theme was television shows, my show was the Justice League cartoon show. My team would then have to make cupcakes based off the theme. The most important aspect of Cupcake Throw down is the philanthropy that is goes to. During my pledge ship of fall 2012 one of my pledge brothers Ryan Schutze was driving back from Austin to Denton and was struck by a drunk driver and tragically passed away. His mother started an organization called Live Like Ryan Would which we support and give proceeds to. The values that Ryan had reflect what we encourage in ATO. He showed Integrity, compassion, tact, and selflessness throughout his life and we teach those things to every new member we have during pledge ship. From all of us at ATO we hope you had a great summer and we look forward to seeing all of you in the fall!

DELTA KAPPA DELTA Delta Kappa Delta is the first and only South-Asian service based sorority. We were established at Texas A&M on October 1st, 1999 by 13 flawless founders. Our founding mothers’ vision to unite, serve and educate the community created the letters of Delta Kappa Delta which started off as B.E.T.I.S. Through B.E.T.I.S, our founders were able to strengthen their goals and create a legacy. Truly dedicating ourselves to service, we have completed approximately over 40,000 hours across the country. Delta Kappa Delta was founded at the University of North Texas on September 24th, 2011. Our purpose is “Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, Inc. commits itself to the fostering of a united sisterhood, the development of indomitable spirit, the betterment of the community through humanitarian services, and the education of ourselves and others about the Indian sub-continental culture. Furthermore, we dedicate ourselves to personal, cultural enrichment through the awareness and preservation of our traditions and morals.” We hold our pillars; sisterhood, education, service, culture and indomitable spirit very close to our heart. Although we are a service- based sorority, we pride ourselves on excelling academically. Service is a way for us to show who we are and to give ourselves to the community. Each sister of Delta Kappa Delta has a desire to help the community. Our philanthropy is Child Abuse Awareness and Preven-

tion. We hold our philanthropy very close to our hearts. We commit ourselves to help raise awareness of child abuse prevention. Although we can’t help every child suffering fro child abuse, we believe that our dedication to spread awareness of child abuse will make a difference. Our goal is to make sure people are educated and aware of the different types of child abuse that can occur. We hold two annual events to that are based on our philanthropy. During the fall, we have Darling Donations where we invite other organizations and people to come help wrap gifts, make scarves, and make Christmas cards to donate to foster homes or children’s hospitals. During the spring semester, we hold our Changing Hope Into a Lasting Difference week. This is our philanthropy week where we dedicate ourselves to raise awareness and prevention of child abuse. We have speakers come and educate others about child abuse, we do fundraisers, and service. This week is very important to us because of the opportunity we get to help children around the world. We believe children are very important because they are the future of our society. Our goal is to ensure their safety and well-being.

KAPPA DELTA

Kappa Delta is a national organization committed to inspiring women to reach their full potential and build confidence. Leading a values-based life is something we as Kappa Delta have ingrained into our programs and members. Some of our values held dear to our hearts are lifetime learning, altruistic service, personal integrity and truth and loyalty. There are endless opportunities to grow personally and learn life skills and be active in the community through philanthropy and volunteering. As Kappa Deltas, we hold high ethical standards and most importantly, stress the significance of true and enduring friendship in order to be held accountable to becoming our best selves. While KD has been around nationally since October 23, 1897, the Gamma Beta chapter of Kappa Delta has been at UNT since our recolonization in 2009. We hold two philanthropy events a year, KayDee Quesadillas benefitting a local community member in need and Shamrock benefitting the Denton Children’s Advocacy Center and Prevent Child Abuse America.

DELTA SIGMA PHI We are the men of Delta Sigma Phi. Men of courage. Men of action. Men of excellence. Established in 1899, the mission of the fraternity was clear: to become better men. Delta Sigma Phi strives to ever convince the world of the sincerity of our purpose through a mission of Building Better Men. Our brotherhood inspires each member to be better versions of themselves and positively impact the world through their actions and influence—we challenge our men to be atypical, to break the mold, to be a beacon of strength for humanity. Delta Sigs everywhere are exhibiting the courage to dare, the poise to act and a commitment to excel. The Better Man is committed to improving the human condition with principle and sincerity. He does not resign himself to await the actions of others; when he sees a person in need, an injustice at hand or an opportunity to improve the world around him, he stands up and lends a hand. When others may falter or fade, he has the poise to act. The Better Man strives for excellence in all areas of his life. He is recognized for his constant self-development and pursuit of total perfection (individually and collectively). He is committed to a lifelong experience of improving society, seeking wisdom, culture, enlightenment and truth, and exemplifying the ideals and core values of Delta Sigma Phi. The Better Man is a values-based leader, striving to meet the challenges of modern civilization through innovative solutions with a purpose founded in our core values of Culture, Harmony and Friendship. We are not afraid to challenge the status quo and are respected for our integrity, character and poise in our values. Adversity and challenge are no barriers to our success. Though our charge at times may be unpopular, we are sustained by his conviction, enlightenment and belief in the universal brotherhood of man. The gamma xi chapter has been at the University of North Texas since 1952. We have resided in our current house since 1992, which makes us the longest standing fraternity at the university. On top of regular community service and raising money for different causes, we have two standout philanthropies each year: our iconic haunted house in the fall and Doggy Days during the spring semester. Having the most diverse fraternity on campus calls for great turnouts to such events. The brotherhood within our chapter is unmatched. Each day we come together to better ourselves, our peers, and the community.

KAPPA ALPHA ORDER

Kappa Alpha Order traces its beginning to 1865, when James Ward Wood, William Archibald Walsh, William Nelson Scott, and Stanhope McClellan Scott, four students at Washington College, in Lexington, VA, decided to bind their friendship by a “mutual pledge of faith and loyalty.” Our founders sought to create an organization rooted in the highest ideals of the time. Those same traits of honor, chivalry, and gentility have remained timeless throughout the ages and are the core of KA. Emulating chivalric ideals and genteel ethics, KA translates these timeless philosophies into the mainstream of American colleges and universities. These gentlemanly traits are the hallmark for men who have chosen our unique lifestyle. The philosophy of the Order is that the acquisition of knowledge and the development of character are the great goals of life. Through fellowship and brotherhood, KA seeks to teach young men to be leaders; to be brave, self-reliant, and to continually strive to better themselves. As a student at the University of North Texas you will be looking for ways to become involved and connected on campus. The KA chapter at UNT was established on January 1, 1953 and will be returning this Fall. KA will be looking for students interested in becoming a Founding Father. What does that mean? YOU choose the dues. YOU create the brotherhood and culture. YOU can create a lasting legacy at UNT. Many KA’s across the country have found their membership in Kappa Alpha Order to be their most rewarding experiences outside of the classroom. Among other things, KA will provide you with the opportunity for academic assistance, leadership, organizational development, social activities, and intramural competition. Most importantly, all of these experiences result in lifelong friendships, which make your college years some of the most exciting and memorable of your life. Kappa Alpha Order can offer you the experience to be a part of an organization that is committed to striving for excellence.

KAPPA DELTA CHI

The purpose of Kappa Delta Chi is to promote the values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity and Leadership among women at colleges and universities. KDChi also works hard on graduating their sisters. You can always find our sisters in the library studying or at their favorite campus spot catching up on school work. Kappa Delta Chi’s national philanthropy is the American Cancer Society. Our local philanthropy is Denton Christian Preschool (DCP). Any day at any time you will find our sisters there helping teachers set up classroom activities, volunteering at events hosted by DCP, and even reading to the students. Some events that we have volunteered at include the DCP Cookie Fiesta Sale, DCP Flower and Plant Sale, and the DCP Benefit Nights. During the 2016 Spring semester our sorority as a whole completed 1,058 hours of community service. Over the years, KDChi has made their mark in UNT Greek Life. In 2013, Kappa Delta Chi received the Chapter of the Year award. KDChi has also received awards including, Cross Council Unity Awards, Outstanding New Member Award, Excellence in Service, Greek Woman of the Year, and Academic Excellence. In Spring 2015, Elizabeth Orozco received the Standard of Fraternal award, the highest award any Greek Life member can earn at UNT. The sisterhood and benefits of being a KDChi do not end once you graduate. Kappa Delta Chi encourages graduated sisters to become apart of the National Alumnae Association and join their nearest alumnae chapter. This allows sisters to meet and network with other graduated sisters as well as continuing to serve their community. Feel free to visit our website kdchialphaupsilon.wix.com for more information.

KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA

The owl the key and the fleur de lis, all represent who we are as Kappa Kappa Gamma. We were founded nationally in 1870 at Monmouth College in 1870 but founded here at UNT in 1986. We are a women’s origination thriving on leadership, academics, sisterhood and tradition. Originally formed as Kappa Theta Delta formed in 1986, we quickly developed as a chapter with high standards, community and campus service, good scholarship, philanthropies and high ideals. The Panhellenic Board voted to expand its organization by selecting three NPC groups to make formal presentations to the Expansion Committee and Kappa Theta Delta. Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Delta Delta Delta. Kappa Kappa Gamma was selected and was proud to welcome such outstanding women into its circle of friendship. On November 28, 1988, Kappa Theta Delta local sorority at the University of North Texas (formerly North Texas State University) became Zeta Sigma colony of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Fast-forward to 2016, and our values still hold just as true. We hold an annual event called Kappa Kookout to raise money for our philanthropy, Reading is Fundamental. We believe that all children should be able to have a book that they can call their own. We also participate in other events to raise money for our philanthropy such as Reading is Key events at local elementary schools or making blankets for Project Linus. Another annual event we held this year was Kappa Karnations. This year, around Valentine’s Day, we sold “Kappa Karnations” and “Kappa Kisses” to raise money for the Denton Animal Shelter in honor of a fellow Panhellenic sister, Sara, who had passed away earlier this year. We also hold events to raise money for the Kappa Kappa Gamma foundation, which is a foundation that provides assistance to sisters all over the country in need and provides sisters with scholarships. We are passionate about being involved on campus and love to participate in events whether they are campus, greek or chapter wide! We believe each of us brings a unique quality to campus and together we can make a difference.

Phi Kappa Tau is a leadership fraternity that promotes a lifelong commitment to brotherhood, learning, ethical leadership, and exemplary character. Our focus is to create not only life long friendships, but to develop college aged men into a men of character, preparing them for whatever challenges they may face in the professional world, and to help create connections that will help them succeed in their career path. Phi Kappa Tau has been on the UNT campus for only about 5 years, but has recently received its charter, and is now growing at an increasing rate. The first chapter of Phi Kappa Tau was started at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1906, and has only grown since then. Nationwide, there have been a total of 155 chapters of Phi Kappa Tau, with some notable members. Perhaps one of the most famous members of Phi Kappa Tau is the famed actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. Phi Kappa Tau’s national philanthropy, Seriousfun Children’s Network, was started by Paul Newman, and helps send terminally ill children to summer camp to have the time of their lives. Every Semester, each chapter holds events to raise money to send to seriousfun camps. These events may change from time to time, however our most notable fall event, Spooktober, and our spring event, Silly Olympics have been favorites amongst those who participate. All proceeds from these events go towards putting smiles on children’s faces. This year we are happy to announce that we are on fraternity row, and are looking forward to making a larger presence on campus! We hope that everyone has a great Fall semester! -The Gentlemen of Phi Kappa Tau

The purpose of Lambda Theta Alpha shall be to provide a sisterhood based on unity, love, and respect; develop strong leaders who will then provide and practice political, social and cultural activities, promote unity through charitable and educational programs and maintain a higher standard of learning and serve as a voice for all students. Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated was founded in 1975 as the first Latina based sorority in the United States under the principles of Unity, Love and Respect. With the hopes of creating a sisterhood that promoted academic excellence, political and social activism and an overall organization that could help women achieve their highest potential, Lambda Theta Alpha has become the home of thousands of women across the nation and even in Puerto Rico. Although Lambda Theta Alpha was founded as a Latina based sorority, it has opened its doors to all women and is a non-exclusionary sorority that truly values the Universal Woman. Our sorority does not rush or have a mascot. Lambda Ladies empower the Universal Woman. Lambda Theta Alpha serves thousands of hours each year to a variety of philanthropic causes and needs. In January of 2010, LTA became an official collegiate partner to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, becoming the first individual Latino Greek organization to commit fully to the hospital’s efforts. With this partnership, LTA provides our resources of community service and activism and more importantly, another direct link to the Hispanic community for St. Jude. LTA has pledged to raise awareness about childhood cancer and St. Jude in the Latin community, as well as fundraise for the hospital through a variety of events and programs. Every year chapters around the nation participate in the annual Walk/Run for the cure. Lambda Theta Alpha’s colors are Burgundy and Grey. Our symbols are La Perla, La Concha, and La Palma. Lambda Theta Alpha members have a hand sign and traditional call. LTA’s do not step in respect to the Devine Nine, but they do salute and stroll. Saluting is a tradition unique to Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Saluting is a means by which members of an organization can praise a particular member within their organization or to honor the organization’s past and current accomplishments. Members write a salute, and tend to include words of modern-day songs. Once they have the text, they proceed to add motions to the salute. Typically, if there is more than one person performing a salute, the members will synchronize their movements. Saluting symbolizes unity and respect. Strolling is a tradition that traces back to the inception of historically African American Greek organizations and is practiced by many organizations to this day. Members of a Greek organization line up one after another. Similar to saluting, they move forward in a line performing the same dance. Strolling exhibits unity and pride. Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was incorporated as an Academic Sorority in 1979. Scholarly excellence is our strongest mission. Each chapter has an Academic Chair to oversee the members’ academic progress. The chapters host study skills workshops, time management workshops, study sessions and many other educational programs not only for the members but for the campus community as a whole. On a national level, the sorority provides several scholarships each year for outstanding academic achievement. Our chapter host seminars and bring speakers to present education programs for the benefit of the entire campus community. Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Beta Mu chapter was founded on January 12, 2000 at the University of North Texas by three distinctive women who epitomize what it is to be a real Lambda Lady. Merisa R. Trevino, Diana J. Mejia, and Rebecca I. Batres all envisioned the change an organization like LTA could bring to a campus like UNT. With the hopes of resonating our principles of Unity, Love and Respect across campus, the establishment of this chapter has created a home for many girls here at UNT, while pushing for academic success, political and philanthropic involvement, and the true meaning of a sisterhood. Sixteen years later, our chapter has become home to 68 women that decided to embark in this lifetime journey as sisters. Lambda Theta Alpha, along with Lambda Theta Phi and Chi Upsilon Sigma helped found the Latino Greek Council in 2001 and later the Multicultural Greek Council in 2006. The council is now composed of 10 extraordinary organizations that have impacted the community in many ways. Beta Mu Chapter has a 100% graduation rate from all its members since its establishment in 2000. Last year Beta Mu Chapter was honored with the following awards; Multicultural Greek Council 2015 Chapter of the Year, Multicultural Greek Council Spring 2015 New Member Academic Excellence, Multicultural Greek Council Spring 2015 All Sorority Excellence, Multicultural Greek Council Fall 2015 All Sorority Excellence, 2015 All Sorority Academic Excellence (for all sororities charted at UNT). Our Chapter traditions include St. Jude’s Walk/Run for the cure, Halloween Costume Contest, and Valentine’s Day Strawberry sale. Beta Mu is excited to announce that we will be hosting our inaugural Mr. Burgundy and Grey Pageant in Spring 2017.

Pi Beta Phi was founded on April 28, 1867, at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. Our 12 founders had the vision to form the first secret society for women patterned after men’s groups at a time when only five state universities admitted women. These courageous women set the stage for a thriving organization that continues to enrich the lives of many during their collegiate years and beyond. As the Texas Epsilon Chapter of Pi Beta Phi, this year we are celebrating 40 years at the University of North Texas. As we rapidly approach Pi Phi’s 150th anniversary celebration, we are very proud that the current Grand President of Pi Beta Phi, Paula Pace Shepherd, is a University of North Texas Alumna.

The mission of Pi Beta Phi is to promote friendship, develop women of intellect and integrity, cultivate leadership potential, and enrich lives through community service. Our core values are Integrity, Lifelong Commitment, Honor and Respect, Personal and Intellectual Growth, Philanthropic Service to Others and Sincere Friendship. Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women distinguishes itself in the Fraternity and Sorority world by leading the way as one of the first of seven founding members of the National Panhellenic Conference, which provides support and guidance for its 26 member inter/national sororities/women’s fraternities. Pi Phi was also the first to organize a national philanthropic project, form an alumnae department, establish an Alumnae Advisory Committee for each collegiate chapter and was the first National Panhellenic Conference group with a Canadian philanthropy. Read > Lead > Achieve is Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic effort, which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential. Pi Beta Phis believe in the power of reading. Pi Phis believe reading always has been — and always will be — a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. Members believe that when one out of four children cannot read*, that is one too many. (*According to the National Assessment of Adult Literacy) Pi Beta Phis believe in inspiring readers, sparking imaginations and igniting the desire to learn. Pi Phis believe that readers become leaders. And, members believe reading is the foundation of all that can be achieved in life. For more than a century, Pi Phis have committed themselves to creating a more literate and productive society. At University of North Texas we take the long standing Pi Phi tradition of philanthropic service to others very seriously. Each year our members participate in a month long reading program with the children of Ginnings Elementary School. This hands-on opportunity in the classroom is so rewarding for the students and their Pi Phi mentors. There are always smiles when we arrive, and we are so proud of them at the end of the month when we see what amazing progress they have made with their reading skills.

ALL MAJORS WELCOME FOR MORE INFO: http://bit.ly/MoMoneyMBA

Our philanthropic efforts don’t stop there! We also love to spend time at Good Samaritan nursing home, where we visit with residents and have been known to challenge them to a game or two of BINGO. Pi Phi has also partnered with Denton County Friends of the Family, which is a women’s shelter for victims of domestic violence. Of course, no philanthropy finances themselves, so Pi Phis can be seen during the course of the academic year hosting Lemonade for Literacy, Pops with Pi Phi, and Dodge the Arrow, our signature fund raising event, supporting the Pi Beta Phi Foundation. At UNT, Pi Phis are involved in a diverse arena of academic disciplines, and can be found throughout UNT in some obvious, and perhaps some not so obvious roles. You can find Pi Phis participating in all kinds of intramurals, cheering on our Mean Green football team as members of the cheerleading squad, and as employee’s of the University in facilities like the POHL Recreation center. The Texas Epsilon Chapter of Pi Beta Phi is proud to be part of the University of North Texas community.

SIGMA PHI EPSILON

SIGMA CHI

The date was November 1st, 1901 when a group of guys got together and sparked the creation of a social firestorm that spread across the nation. In May of 1952 that fire spread south to the University of North Texas and left the Texas Beta chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon in its wake. Even with its conception being relatively short ago, in 1901, the national brotherhood now boasts the largest alumni body in the United States. This diverse body of individuals came together from incredibly different backgrounds all on the uniting principals of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly love. These cardinal principals truly represent what we stand for, in always doing the morally correct thing, working hard to achieve our goals, and loving our fellow man universally regardless of background or what ideology they belong to. This large diversity is also seen here at the University of North Texas through the incredibly well rounded brothers whose interests include; the arts, athleticism, mathematics, the sciences, finances, etc. A preview into this diverse culture can be seen on campus during one of our numerous events we host. Our most well-known is our philanthropy SigEp safari. This event goes on throughout the week of September 19th-23rd and contains many contests to determine who will be the kings and queens of the safari. Whether you earn points from capturing the most pictures of wild SigEps in their natural studious habitat or donate the most money in penny wars, there can only be one winner so competition will be savage. We are also involved in UNT hosted events such as The Big Event, Homecoming, and Intramurals where we have risen to take the championship numerous times. It has been 114 years since the conception of SigEp and there is still a passionate fire blazing with love for the community, fellow man, and education, right here at the University of North Texas.

The Iota Phi chapter of Sigma Chi has established a phenomenal reputation at the University of North Texas since its conception in 1990. The members of our chapter truly represent the ideals by which Sigma Chi was established. The success that our student leaders have achieved is a testament to the noble purposes and designs of our Fraternity. Our chapter has held the title of best IFC GPA in Fall 2015 and continued our academic achievement with the same GPA in Spring 2016. Over half of our Chapter is involved in other organizations throughout the University, including two current Interfraternity Council Vice Presidents and immediate past Interfraternity Council Presidents, North Texas Top Forty Student Leaders, the Denton Wesley Foundation, the Student Investment Group, Professional Leadership Program, the Rugby Team, the Orientation Team, and the Eagle Camp Staff. The concerns of our young men extend far beyond the confines of campus life. Community service and philanthropic activities are integral components of our Fraternity. The Sigma Chi Fraternity as whole has promised to help others who are diagnosed and are fighting the awful illness that is Cancer. For the next ten years Sigma Chi has pledged 10 million dollars to go directly towards research and treatment of cancer patients around the United States and the world. Our chapter at the University of North Texas has promised to take a leading role in this fight through our annual Derby Day and Fight Night Events, for which we have raised $65,000 since 2006. All proceeds from these incredible philanthropic events goes directly towards fighting cancer, as well as local charities right here in Denton. The faith, leadership and scholastic achievement of our young men define our Fraternity, and truly separates us from other Greek organizations. We take great pride in the reputation we have built and we look forward to the future growth of our Fraternity. Our UNT and Nationally award winning chapter takes very seriously the standard that we have pledged to ourselves and eachother. If you wish to be held to a higher standard and to push yourself to set a foundation for the rest of your life, look no further than the Sigma Chi fraternity. If you are new to North Texas as a student, parent, faculty, or staff and would like to learn more about Sigma Chi, please feel free to contact with us. - The Gentlemen of the Iota Phi Chapter of Sigma Chi

Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc, was founded in 1869 at the Virginia Military Institute. Our three Founders, James Frank Hopkins, Greenfield Quarles, and James McIlvaine Riley, founded Sigma Nu on the principles of Love, Honor, and Truth. The founding of Sigma Nu was based on the opposition of hazing. These are values that we still hold to this day. Sigma Nu is one of the only fraternities remaining with completely secret rituals. Zeta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Nu has been on UNT campus since 1953. We have one of the strongest Alumni Relations of any organization on campus which includes the ACM award winning Eli Young Band along with several other successful actors and musicians. Our Alumni Advisory Board assists the chapter in all of our big events, including our Annual Snake Pull. Snake Pull is a long standing Zeta Omicron tradition which we host at the Sigma Nu house on campus and includes several carnival games along with a tug-of-war competition. Proceeds raised this past year went toward our philanthropy, the Helping Hands Initiative. Under the Helping Hands Initiative, we are able to support five national partnerships - St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Paul “Bear” Bryant Awards benefiting the American Red Cross, Character Counts, Habitat For Humanity, and The Wounded Warrior Project. Over the past 12 years we have been able to help continue significant change with our national partnerships, and help better the lives of millions Americans here in North Texas and across the country. Zeta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Nu is proud to have been re-chartered on UNT’s campus in 2016. The new founding fathers of Zeta Omicron have put in a lot of hard work to make Sigma Nu at UNT the best again and we’re not finished yet. The re-chartering of Zeta Omicron marked the beginning of the great future ahead for the fraternity. In attendance at the ceremony were several national Sigma Nu officers, including Regent, Joe Francis and Regent Elect, Lee Parrett. We would like to especially thank our Alumni Chapter for the unwavering support they have given us over the years and continue to give. We wish to thank Jason Biggs, Assistant Dean of Students for Greek Life and his staff for their continued support in the Greek Community. And where would the gentlemen of the Zeta Omicron Chapter be without our number one sweetheart, Pam Stephens, who was instrumental in helping with the entire chartering weekend and so much more. Pam is an alumnus of UNT and a Chi Omega. We love our sweethearts and Pam has always been here for us and we will always be here for her. The success of Zeta Omicron would not be possible without our Alumni Advisory Board that includes Alfred Winder, Chris Jakova, Ion Brooks, Jerry Trahan, Dr. Jeff Bullard, Jim Stephens, and Jack Reynolds. Additional members of the Zeta Omicron Alumni Association that were instrumental in our re-chartering are John Barba, Marshall Tullos, Frank Bracken, Joe Cannon, Joe Marchant and Dr. Lew Taylor our Faculty Advisor. The Zeta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Nu is excited for what the future brings.

KAPPA DELTA Kappa Delta is a national organization committed to inspiring women to reach their full potential and build confidence.

ZETA TAU ALPHA At the Gamma Phi chapter, we are proud to be Mean Green Eagles and North Texas ZTA’s! Since 1953, our chapter has been home to some of the brightest and most wonderful women at the University of North Texas. Nationally, Zeta Tau Alpha was founded in 1898 at the Virginia State Female Normal School in Farmville, Virginia. Since then, ZTA has been chartered on more than 225 campuses and continues to grow every year. This chapter alone is made up of 120 spectacular sisters who share the ideals of Zeta Tau Alpha and it’s founders. Sisterhood, philanthropy, and love are the words that come to mind when our sisters think of Zeta Tau Alpha. Membership not only provides opportunities you cannot find anywhere else, but also a sisterhood that cannot be broken and the experience of a lifetime. We take pride in our service, campus and community involvement, leadership, academic achievements, friendship, and much more. Our sisters take great joy in the service and philanthropy work we do each semester. Twice a year we hold a Think Pink Week on UNT’s campus to get everyone involved and raise awareness for breast cancer. Our members table in the library mall and pass out ribbons, shower cards, and collect donations. Think Pink Week also includes exciting activities such as lip sync competitions, carnival competitions at our Carnival for a Cure, a Pink Out UNT football game in the fall as well as a Pink Out UNT hockey game in the spring! For the fall 2015 Pink Out football game, our chapter was excited to be a part of UNT’s first ever “human ribbon” on the football field at half time where we helped create a giant breast cancer ribbon with our pink shirts on the field for everyone to see! In addition to Think Pink Week, our chapter hosts an annual golf tournament every spring. In the last biennium alone, our chapter worked hard to raise over $25,000 for breast cancer education and awareness!

Throughout the year, our members also enjoy getting together to complete smaller projects such as taking baked goods to the firefighters in Denton, making cards to take to the local nursing home, or writing letters and creating care packages for the men and women over seas. The Gamma Phi chapter loves volunteering in the Denton community and is always excited for annual events such as The Big Event, Greeks Give, and philanthropy events held by other organizations at UNT. The purpose of Zeta Tau Alpha is the intensifying of friendship, the fostering of a spirit of love, the creating of such sentiments, the performing of such deeds, and the molding of such opinions as will be conducive to the building up of a purer and nobler womanhood in the world. The best thing about being a ZTA is knowing that you always have a sister to support you, a partner in crime for midnight ice cream runs, and a friend to talk to until the sun comes up.
