Summer Guide 2015

MAY 28 THROUGH SEPT. 17

Get it while it’s here T he acts are lining up for the California Mid-State Fair, which can only mean two things. You better get your dancing shoes on, and thank goodness it’s finally summer. That action-packed, boot-stomping, cattle-showing, country music-crooning, Wranglerwearing, week-long event is just the one of many things that will pass as swiftly this summer as trees do when you’re driving down the highway. And if the fact that it’s already June is any indication of how quickly summer will turn to fall, then you’d better get on it. Leaf through the coming pages and you’ll find a guide to all things sunny days and warm nights can bring to summer memories, whether you’re raising a child who needs to fill those lazy summer days with outdoor action or arts activities or you’re looking for a little nostalgia-like reprieve from the work week—you know, so you can

pretend you’re on vacation. Calendar Editor Trevor Dias swooped in to make sure you’ve got everything you need to make wiling away the coming months a reality, starting first with SLO County’s must-dos for the months of June [28] , July [31] , August [32] , and September [34] , and then jamming everything he could find into a downright long list of hundreds of activities [36] . So, don’t let all the music, plays, festivals, camps, movie nights, and outdoor and arts activities be looked at longingly in your rearview mirror as something you regret not doing come fall. We’ve got your back.

In Memoriam

Lyne Francis Hethrington 1955 – 2015

A Visionary Who Brought Optimal Health to The World L yne Francis Hethrington was born on August 9, 1955 in Vancouver, British Columbia. She grew up in the wilds of Vancouver with her sister Beverly, her brother Brian and her four legged friends. From a young age, Lyne was high energy with a tremendous love of the great outdoors. Like her father, her passion for nature, animals and the environment was a vital part of her life. Lyne came to California with her family in the summer of 1966 at the age of 11 years. Her aptitude for higher education won her accolades, awards and educational opportunities. During those school years, Lyne became fluent in Spanish by becoming an exchange student with a family in Mexico. She began her professional career by teaching High School Spanish but in the years to come, Lyne found an interest in Environmental Science, and changed her professional career by becoming a scientist in the field. Her professional ventures as an Environmental Scientist incorporated teaching, lecturing, training, and educating. Little did Lyne know that she was positioning herself for an inspiring career to fulfill a vision that brought optimal health to the world. As life takes you along a path of adventures and friends, none was more adventurous or heartfelt than meeting Robert Quinn. Lyne found her soul mate and partner in life at the age of 17. They journeyed through life, together and separately, always re-connecting with each other. In January of 2003, Lyne and Robert moved to San Luis Obispo from Southern California, and in June of 2005, they bought a house in Atascadero. In July of 2006, they celebrated their lives, their love and their relationship by privately marrying each other in the middle of a riparian meadow, high up on the bluffs of Fiscalini Ranch in Cambria. Lyne often shared her love of nature with her three, four-legged children, and Robert’s three, two-legged daughters there. Shortly after they married, they announced their jubilation by marrying again in a

wedding ceremony celebrated before family and beloved friends in June of 2007. As they were partners in life, so they became partners in business. Lyne and Robert aspired to create an alternative in healthcare by combining the science and philosophy of Medication Compounding and Regenerative Medicine. Their vision was born, and they named it Kohana Pharmacy and Center for Regenerative Medicine. Lyne’s footprint can be found with so many she came in contact with. She reached out to people and animals all her life. Lyne was a spiritual warrior who communed with nature and fought for the environment. She fought for, and found, alternatives for human and animal health, and where she could, she sought to teach, debate and enlighten. Lyne loved life and passionately believed in paths, however unconventional, that led to a happier, cleaner and healthier existence. She lived and breathed that philosophy to the very end of her life. Lyne passed away on April 9, 2015. An untimely passing that leaves a void with all who know and love her. Lyne is survived by her loving husband Robert Quinn, his daughters, April Quinn, Erin Quinn, Ali Angel and Ali’s husband Brian Angel, their two children Austin and a baby boy who is due to make his appearance this September, Lyne’s brother Brian Honsberger and his two children Gregory and Dakota, his wife Eunice, Lyne’s sister Beverly Wyatt, her grandnephew Christian Wyatt, and finally, Lyne’s three beautiful and loving four legged children, Tasha, Luc and Riley. Lyne, with all her passion and sparkle for life, will be greatly missed.
