4 July 2018 – Smart Libraries Issue
Happenings and Opinions in Higher Education Leicester to roll out ‘Smart Libraries’ Network In the UK, a group of 14 public libraries in Leicester County will be implementing a ‘Smart Library’ network, where users will be able to visit libraries and utilize library resources without staff supervision, extending the hours during which library resources are made available. Libraries and the Internet of Things The American Library Association’s page keeps track of some of the trends affecting the development of smart libraries in the US, of which, the implementation of IoT technology is being taken up by public libraries and academic libraries. Blockchain in the Library – Researchers Explore Possible Applications The Institute of Museum and Library Services has awarded a $100,000 grant to San José State University’s School of

This article describes new research exploring how various technologies can be leveraged and combined to assist library inventory management via “a deep neural network-based system” using images. While the idea itself is not new, the implementation described in this article shows impressive accuracy in retrieval performance and text recognition.
