SIX TOWER [CIRCUIT]ULATION This project deals with the excess of economic and travel flows in Cartagena, Colombia within the context of Formula 1 racing and the High-Rise. The research identified two major rapid growing economies within the City: the development of high-rises to critical mass in Boca Grande (and its economic correlation to vehicular density) and the influx of tourism via cruise ships entering through one of the countries largest industrial ports. With this information we propose a bridge connecting Manga with the Over-developed BocaGrande as an artery to promote, via traffic flow, a new center of development within Cartagena. And we also propose a relocation and expansion of the cruise ports, away from the container park and closer to the city historic center. In the middle of these is the tower which serves to mediate the flows of people and development. The tower is a center point for cruise tourism and visiting tourists as they flow through and up into the tower to reach the visiting center at the top. While engaging structurally with the bridge, the tower also amplifies the bridge’s economic effect by setting the stage for a new city skyline. The tower also serves as an template for high rise balcony conditions geared for viewing the Formula 1 Race. The development of the balcony condition can be traced back to our initial water experiments where we identified a series of modules with potential architectural conditions. these modules went through a architectural refinement via collage, model making, and 3D modeling. The Port serves as a platform for the cruises to become a new grandstand typology. The race weaves in and out of the ports with hair pin turns to maximize view from these unique conditions. The cross-section of the port was developed with knot geometry to negotiate the flows of people, automobiles and views. The port acts as a gill to ease tourists into the city with embedded commercial programs and brings that economic flow into Manga, as well as the historic areas.
