PROPORTION A SQUARE IS STATIC, A RECTANGLE IS DYNAMIC AND PORPORTIONS CREATE A VISUAL ORDER AND HARMONY.

ABSTRACT METAPHOR OF THE HARP FORM AND FUNCTION OF THE HARP ARE IMPLEMENTED IN THIS PROJECT TO CREATE A THREE DIMENSIONAL ABSTRACTED FORM. THIS INSTRUMENT HAS ITS STRINGS POSITIONED PERPENDICULAR TO THE SOUND BOARD. THERE IS A MOVEMENT OF THE SOUNDS WAVE EXISTS IN THE STRINGS AS THEY FLOW IN THE AIR. THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VARIOUS CHORDS THESE STRINGS HOLD ARE SHOWN AS STEPS AS THE BEHOLDER TRAVELS UP FROM LOWER TO HIGH PITCH SOUNDS OF THE HARP.

AS IS STRUCTURE, SO IS SPACE THE MAIN JOINT OF THE KANGAROO IS ITS LEGS AND IS BALANCED WITH ITS THIRD LEG, ITS TAIL. IN EXAMINEING THE WAYS IN WHICH THE JOINT MOVES IN THEIR LEGS, I FOUND HOW IT WORKED TOGETHER AS A WHOLE, A SPACE WAS REALIZED THAT EMBODIES THESE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE KANGAROO’S LEG.

PHOENIX

we were able to experience an important aspect of the profession we seek and observe architecture that we had not had the privilege of seeing. We would like to inform the student body of what we gained from our time in forum and express our appreciation to student life.

“every great architect is -necessarily- a great poet. He must be a great original interpreter of his time, his day, his age.

Burton Barr Library

THE BURTON BARR LIBRARY PHOENIX, ARIZONA Building a Sustainable City: Forty-two SolarWings (solar collectors) have been installed in the north parking lot of the libary, creating 84 shaded parking spaces capable of providing 148.05kW of power for the library. The City of Phoenix received funding from an Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for the $1.3 million project. www.solarwing.com

E N E R G I Z I N G PA R K I N G san antonio has 300+ days of sun

we could generate over 255 kwh of electricty!

This is enough electricty to power 160 homes!

93,720 square feet of parking in front of the moody learning center this equates to 284 parking spots

this would save the college over 5400 kwh a year. the project would pay for its self in 10 years!

I M PA C T I N G | Our experience at Phoenix revealed a more responsible built environment which is the inspiration behind this proposal. After studying what is being done at the parking lots for Burton Barr Library in Phoenix, AZ we would like to determine what the benefits would be if San Antonio College installed solar panels above parking spaces around campus, creating shade for students and faculty and collecting energy from the sun. San Antonio College has vast areas of surface parking. We believe that just like the Burton library parking, we can make surface parking at San Antonio College more conscious of the world around it. This small step could be the first of many where San Antonio College can be a role model to the rest of the community by energizing these parking lots and collecting solar energy. With the enormous amount of sunshine we see in a year, we can harness the energy in a more efficient way. We can bring life to the space and make the experience from car to class a more delightful one.
